Her gaze raises, likely to the window behind him.

“We can’t stay grounded forever. It’s not in our blood,” she hums. “I trust you to find what you need from all this life you’re surrounded by, all this that inhabits our big world. You’re nearly eighteen, baby, and you have your path… but your father and I- we have to continue ours.”

“But,” Jack breathes, “you’re- you… you’re an artist.”

She laughs, pulling him into her arms. Her hand draws over his head, and Jack squeezes her tightly, as if she could float away at any moment.

“I am,” she confirms. “Why do you think I have to go back out there?”
