MedicalMyanne’s Best of 2017: A Comprehensive Gift Guide
I am a huge fan of practical gifts. If an item can be used daily, while still reminding you of your beloved, I consider it the perfect present. Below are my Christmas/Holiday gift ideas for any student in your life, ranging from $1.75 to under $100 for 2017.
Stocking Stuffers:
1. MUJI Polycarbonate Pens - $1.75
We get it -- med students study. Make it more bearable by gifting the student in your life a decent pen they won’t lose within hours. These MUJI polycarbonate pens write like a dream. They are retractable, write smoothly, and come in 6 different ink colors (black, teal, magenta, true blue, red, and orange). These don’t tend to leak like the original MUJI capped pens (as much as I like these as well), and are great for white coat pockets, college students, and even Grandma, who loves to pen you a letter every now & then.

2. BadgeBlooms Badge Reel - $6
Melissa is a nurse-turned-entrepreneur based in Chicago, IL. Her Etsy shop is stocked full of badge reels for every medical professional in your life. My personal favorite are her felt badges -- created into human organs, cute animals, and the most adorable inanimate objects (think - tacos, pineapples, cupcakes!). I own 2 of these myself & they are of great quality. At under $10, these would be great stocking stuffers or for several nurses on your floor while on a student budget. BadgeBloom’s huge selection gives you a chance to make it personal (everyone has a favorite animal or organ), and a badge reel is practical in its every day use. Your recipient will be reminded of you every time he/she puts on his/her badge.

3. Glossier Balm Dot Coms (lip salve) - $12
Makeup is universal, but chapped lips shouldn’t be. As a chronic lip picker while studying, the Mint BDC has been my holy grail. Balm Dot Coms come in 6 different scents (Original/Unscented, Rose, Mint, Coconut, Cherry Birthday Cake). I have always found gifting makeup to be an extremely personal preference, but lip balm is something that gives more leeway. Mint is my personal favorite (think Burt’s Bee’s classic lip balm, but way less waxy), and I’ve gifted them to a couple of friends already. Boys -- this would be a great idea so your girl doesn’t have to exchange a foundation 3 shades too light at a Sephora 30 mins away. You can get 20% off your entire Glossier purchase using my affiliate link here. Balm Dot Coms also come in a trio -- you’ll get any 3 flavors for $30, saving yourself a cool $6. You can spend that on a Burrito Bowl all for you, and cover 3 stocking stuffers for your 3 besties this holiday season.

4. The gift of giving back - Starbucks/Tiff’s Treats Gift Card - $20
Give for others to give -- literally. I have always been a huge fan of “just because” gifts, and with friends all fighting their own battles in grad school, I like to give a little pick-me-up to someone to brighten their day. Give a gift card to Starbucks or a food-delivery company -- not for your recipient, but so they can treat someone, too.
Recently, I’ve started placing Starbucks “To-Go” mobile orders in various locations, based on my recipient’s current location (must be within 100 miles, I believe). All your recipient has to do is pop in & pick it up -- and it’s already pre-paid by you.
Tumblr media
If you are based in Texas, Tiff’s Treats is a cookie delivery company who delivers freshly baked cookies right to your loved one’s doorstep. I think I’ve placed over 20 orders for birthdays, as thank yous, and just a little “thinking of you” surprise. They’ve recently amped up their packaging, and you can even write a personalized note to your recipient for free. The delivery comes wrapped in a bow, and comes baked fresh & piping hot (they call your recipient to confirm their delivery prior to baking!). Give a gift card to your beloved to encourage them to treat someone special in their life, too.

Mid-Range:
5. SLMD Daytime Acne Lotion or Clarifying Treatment - $30/each
Dr. Pimple Popper, need I say more? I’ve battled with my skin nearly all of my life, and have been loving the SLMD line. The Daytime Acne Lotion is 2.5% benzoyl peroxide, which kills acne-causing bacteria, and the Clarifying Treatment contains retinol, a Vitamin A derivative shown to reduce blackheads, fine lines, and even wrinkles. I was first introduced to these when I started the  SLMD 30-Day Acne System (also a great gift idea @ $45). I loved both these items so much, when I finished the trial as well as my normal prescribed topicals, I purchased full sizes of the Acne Lotion & Clarifying Treatment to keep my stress-induced acne at bay.

6. White Coat Clipboard - $25-31
Move over PSLs & UGG boots -- it’s time for the real basic grad school essential. Sleek enough to fit into a white coat pocket, practical enough to have high-yield lab values & fit a whole stack of paper, white coat clipboards are the way to go. I have one as a hand-me-down from an upper-level and was recently given a brand new gorgeous teal one from my med school Big! They come in tons of colors (pink, purple, black, etc.). Be sure to differentiate the medical vs. nursing versions based on the future life-saver you’re giving it to.
White Coat Clipboards are made of metal, and it folds with well-built hinges. These would also be great for high school students just starting to volunteer at hospitals, pre-meds beginning their shadowing experiences, or even physicians who’ve been in the game for a while. Its convenience & durability lasts several years, and can withstand the test of time, as well as the years dedicated to your craft.
Tumblr media
7. A Freshly subscription - $45
Meal delivery right to your front doorstep. Not even a box of ingredients you’ll have to wash, cut, and prepare. Straight up food -- chef-prepared, packaged with care, and all you have to do is heat it up. Freshly came in so clutch during block exam weeks for me, I ordered an additional week after that and thought I lost all knowledge of how to cook after the 7 days in heaven ended. Not to mention -- their customer service is amazing. They’ll personally call you to confirm food allergies, remind you of your delivery date several hours before, and have your box filled with ice packs to keep your food fresh if you’re working late. Though “surprise” & trial boxes like FabFitFun & Sephora Play!, etc. are absolutely adorable, the greatest gift, in my opinion, is the gift of convenience & not having to wash dishes (hahah). This would be perfect for truly anyone -- a best friend, boyfriend, or a struggling classmate -- nose-deep in finals, recovering from post-call, or “just because” on a lazy week.

You can use code med639 to save $20 off your first 6 meals. I receive no commission nor compensation from this code.
BOUJEE:
8. NurseMates Anni-Lo Shoes - $76.95
These are the cutest shoes known to man. Anni-Los scream comfort with its orthotic shape & adorable mix between the Sperrys & Keds aesthetic. I have these in white & wear them literally every day. I love them so much, I actually ordered a second pair in the same size & color just in case these wear out. These run true size (I wear size 7 normally in shoes, and have these in size 7). Annie-Los can be worn with scrubs or even out in daily life, and even have a little platform that elongate & flatter your legs if you have shorter ones like me.
9. FIGS scrubs - $86
Yes. The hype is very, very real. FIGS are the most flattering scrubs in the game. It boasts a draped & tapered fit, luxe fabric, and an admirable mission to boot (buy one pair, they give a pair to a health professional in need). These are by far the most flattering scrubs I own, their customer service team is a dream to work with, and they really do believe in the concept of altruism (read about their work for Hurricane Harvey here). I am rather petite (5′3″) and a ride-or-die top-tucker. My picks are the Catarina top ($38, chest pocket for optimal tucking) & the Kade Cargo Pants ($48). They recently released a bunch of new colors (burgundy, dark harbor, white) & lots of other “lifestyle” wear. I’ve always been a fan of their lifestyle vest (comes with lots of secret pockets, which I believe is discontinued) and their long-sleeve underscrub (also the most flattering long-sleeves I wear in autumn).
You can use my code MyanneFIGS for 15% off your entire FIGS purchase. I receive no commission nor compensation from this code. FYI - right now, FIGS is offering complimentary, custom embroidering on all orders to celebrate the holiday season. Be sure to take advantage of this!

10. A freaking good pair of yoga pants - Lululemon Pace Rival Crops - $88
I found Pace Rivals completely by accident -- on a Lululemon clearance rack that was a size too big for me in Canada. These soon & very quickly became my favorite pants. Their length is extremely flattering, and the material is very durable (I feel like I don’t have to baby them as much as Aligns, which are luxuriously butter soft and also a favorite), but still breathable. Because they are a bit looser, I can hide them underneath a white coat and have it low-key kinda-sorta pass as business pants (#teamlazy). I consider Pace Rivals to be truly worth the price you pay for the usage you will get out of them. My picks are a pair in the color black for a professional monochrome look.

Top 5 moments from fics you've written
Okay rather than describe them I just kinda put them in here but I feel bad because two are spoiler for you. And they are long.
5.“I’m gonna be able to eat as this place right?” Josh moaned practically dragging his feet.
“The food isn’t gonna be poisoned,” she reassured him trying not to giggle at his antics, “But if it makes you feel any better they also serve fish there. I cant speak for the quality of it though as I’ve never gotten it.”
“It’s meat though right?” he asked as if this might be a trick of some sort, “Not like imitation or tofu with flavoring or something like that? It’s like actually real meat?”
“Yes, Josh,” she said with a cold straight face, “It is actually the dead carcass of an animal that was going to have a full beautiful life but couldn’t because it was bred and forced to live in captivity in a space far too small and then murdered viciously with no remorse before it got the chance.“
“Oh good,” he sighed, “Cause you know if it had frolicked and been all happy and shit I don’t think I’d be able to enjoy it buttered, breaded and toasted up.”
4. “I think that this would work,” she purred though she didn’t mean to. It just kind of happened as a result of this position.
“What?” Chris asked in a whisper, his ears glowing red.
“For sex,” she explained, “We could have sex like this.”
Chris’ eyes went wide. He dropped her leg and backed away from her so quickly he tripped in the sand and fell onto his butt. She felt kinda bad about it but she laughed as she herself stumbled a little against the beam because he had let her go. He quickly fumbled onto his feet and started to smack his rear end clean of sand. She covered her mouth as she laughed at him.
“Are you okay?” she asked.
“Yeah, you just took me by surprise” Chris said not looking at her and rubbing the back of his neck.
“Sorry,” she said trying to suppress her laughter, “I thought showing you would answer your question better than telling you.
”“Huh?”
“Your question about where people go to hook up during parties like this,” Ashley clarified.
“Oh,” Chris sighed out… in disappointment? “Right my question. Yeah.”
“Oh my god,” Ashley giggled, “Chris, did… did you think I actually wanted to have sex?”
“No,” he said sounding hurt, “Of course not. No! That would be stupid of me to think that. Why would… why would I think that?”
3. This is a spoiler for you: Jess’ eyes lit up wondering where the girl’s sudden change in attitude was coming from until she continued talking, “But tell me why you want to go to Madison first. I’m not going to help you for a stupid reason. It’s a waste of my time and yours.”
She probably just wanted to know why Jess wanted into her fancy prep school so she could make fun of her. Jess didn’t know how anyone could be so cruel. Had she even actually found anything in Jess’ application that would get her into the school? The idea of starting high school completely alone in a year was awful. Everyone in her school already had their friends. She’d be the weird lonely girl whose friends left her behind to go to a big fancy school. She hoped Emily had a human nature to appeal to.
“I don’t want to be left alone,” Jess confess collapsing back in her chair across from Emily.Emily’s entire demeanor seemed to soften at that. She took off her glasses and leaned forward on the table in what appeared to be interest. She rested her elbow on the table and motioned her hand at Jess.
“Go on,” she encouraged in the gentlest voice Jess had heard from her yet.
“My old best friend Sam,” Jess found herself explaining and feeling tears finally slip from her eyes, “She has a new best friend. Her name is Hannah and she has this brother and sister, Josh and Beth and this friend named Chris. They’re all really cool except Chris, but he’s alright too I guess. They’ve been my friends for the last year. We all hang out all the time and it’s great. We’re all in the same grade at school and we all have lunch together and have classes together. It’s fun. But Hannah and her brother and sister are really rich and their dad gives a lot of money to Madison so that’s where they’re going to school next year and Chris and Sam are both really smart so they’re going to go too. I just- other people at school, they don’t like me. Sam was my only friend for a long time. I don’t want to be alone again.”
Jessica had been crying into her hands for most of her confession and she had been told when she cries, and is really crying, that she is hard to understand so she doesn’t know if Emily heard her. She doesn’t know if that was a good or a bad thing. When she looked up though Emily’s face was neutral, but soft. It was hard to tell what exactly she was thinking about, but she reached her hand out and straightened Jess’ application on the table between them.
“You’ve been in a couple of school productions,” Emily told her and Jess nodded, “You were even the lead once. Put that at the front of your application. Madison is boosting their theater program because some hot-shot director former student of theirs donated a bunch of money to renovate the art building. My parents are on the donation committee and word is students specializing in the thespian arts have a better chance of getting in this year because of the big donation.”
“In the meantime,” Emily continued as Jess listened in complete disbelief at the turn around, “I’ll help you study for your entrance exam. You should probably take it in late July. It will give you less study time, but your chances of getting in will be better. It’s the best balance for you.
2.This is a spoiler for you: Oh. Ashley sighed while she rolled her eyes and held out her hand to him. She fully expected him to drop an eraser or a piece of candy or another tiny nothing into it. She decided to humor him anyway. Again Matt was a nice boy and he wanted to make sure she wasn’t left out. But what he dropped into her hand is cold and metal. She had closed her hand on instinct so she had to open it to see what it was.
It was a sliver necklace. Not REAL silver, they were only ten years old. But it shined like silver does. The charm was circular. There was a craving on it. She thought it was of a rose. It might have been another kind of flower though. It was not like it was expensive. It was the type of thing she would get herself at Claire’s or Justice. It wasn’t fancy. But no one else in class had gotten her a real gift. Just him.
“You got this for me?” Ashley asked breathlessly.
“Yeah,” he answered, “You’re always wearing necklaces so I thought you’d like it.”
She didn’t know she was crying until Matt said something.“Are you okay?” he asked softly reaching out to her, “You’re crying.”
“Yeah,” she said as she wiped her face, “I really like this. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome,” Matt said cheerfully, “Mom and I went over to our church garage sale last Sunday and when I saw this I thought of you right away. So she let me get it for you.”
She pulled the necklace on over her head as he spoke. The chain was very long. The charm hung down by her stomach rather than up by her neck. She didn’t care that it was too big for her. She didn’t care that he got it used at a yard sale. She didn’t care that he had probably spent a few dollars on it at most. All she cared about was the fact that he had gotten it for her. He had picked it out with her in mind. He had saw it and thought of her. He really was her friend.
“Is that where you got gifts for everybody in the class?” Ashley asked politely. Okay, not just politely, she might have also been fishing to see if he got individual gifts for all the kids in their class because Matt was the kind of guy to do that. Her bag was packed so she closed her little locker and walked with him towards the hall to the upper classes to meet their siblings for pick-up. They both had to go wait there every day because they had older siblings in the school with them. Matt looked down at the floor as they walked. He looked ashamed.
“No,” he confessed, “Mom and I went to the dollar store and I got a couple bags of spinning tops to give out to for everybody else. That’s why I forgot to put your gift in your locker. It was the only one that was different.”
Spinning tops?
“You didn’t get gifts for anyone else?” She asked as they got to the stairwell.
Matt shrugged, “I forgot about friendship day until yesterday. My last school didn’t do valentine’s day. But I couldn’t bring nothing in, especially not after I had gotten something for you. Since I already got the necklace for you though I figured I would just give it to you today.”
Ashley stood there stunned as she waited for her older sister to come out of her class and meet her so they could find their father and go home. Not only had Matt gotten a gift for her on friendship day, something no one had ever done before ever, she had been the only person Matt had gotten a gift on friendship day despite the fact that based on his bag full he was popular enough to have his fair share of friends in class. And not only that he hadn’t even gotten her the necklace for friendship day. He had just bought it for her because it reminded him of her when he saw it. He had just been thinking about her. She was crying again when her sister showed up and pulled her out to the parking lot to meet up with their father. Matt waved as he waited for his own older brothers to come for him. Ashley waved back. She waved until she couldn’t even see him through the crowd and then kept waving for good measure. This had been the best valentine’s day ever.Ashley had a friend. A real, true, honest to goodness friend. Not just any friend either, but the sweetest and nicest one in the whole entire world. And she was definitely going to marry Matt when she grew up.
1. Still dizzy, still out of it, everything still foggy she remembered her and Sam falling. She remembered the pain of their hands breaking apart. Hitting her head on a beam. The wall collapse. The rubble falling after her. Sam called to her before it all went black. It took all of her strength to knock the rocks and wood off her bruised chest which given the small amount should have been much easier for her to do. She tingled in that way your mouth does when the dentist gives you Novocaine. She felt a dampness and coldness on her back, but her legs were neither. She thought about kicking the debris off her legs. She thought about it and only thought about it.
They didn’t move and slowly it dawned her that they couldn’t move.
Beth does not frighten easily and maybe until that moment she had only ever felt fear for her siblings and for Sam (maybe Chris if she was stretching). But the chill that choked her heart and stopped her breath in her throat was painful. Intense fear like this was new to her. The coldness around her became warm as her adrenaline surged pushing her into flight or fight mode. It kept pumping hard through her limbs as neither option was available. Her body refused to obey the instincts it commanded of itself.
She pushed herself up onto her elbows. The world around her spun and her wobbled back before she had a balance. The pain in her was so intense. The kind of intense that made you made want to scream but also kept you from moving. Her arms were the first part of her that started to shake. Her torso next followed by her head. She willed her legs to shake too. Everything above her hips shook. But the two long limbs underneath remained still.
She hiccuped before the tears started gathering under her eyes. Her breathing became rapid before the first one even fell. Her shaking intensified even as no sound came out of her mouth. She wanted to cry. She wanted to scream. More than anything though she wanted her legs to start listening to her mind.
The sobs broke out and with them the pain and the fear swallowed her all at once. She was screaming. She was screaming louder than she ever had in her life. Hearing it bounce off the cave walls she felt sure it was the loudest anyone had ever screamed in the history of the world. It strained her throat and slowed her breathing. Everything hurt. Everything. Everything. Everything. Everything.
Ask my top 5 anything.

vitamix ice cream recipes|How To Make Ice Cream In A Vitamix (the Healthy Kind)
Tumblr media
For me personally icecream drops inside a unique food collection.  The food group that'll forever remain within my paleo food-pyramid.  It will not indicate that I over indulge from the commercially-made sour type.  I create my own, personal paleo friendly icecream in your home and put anything I need indoors. I understand that in regards to making ice cream in your home, the majority folks give up the theory the moment we hear the language 'churn by hands' or 'receive your icecream manufacturer ready' (ps.  I really don't have one).  BUT, maybe not knowing exactly what 'churning' is perhaps not with a icecream manufacturer shouldn't stop you.  For those who get a high heeled blender such as vita-mix, then you can create beautiful, guilt-free icecream very quickly.  Here's the low down! To generate ice cream ice cream such as sausage and sorbet at a vita-mix or some other high heeled blender you want three important ingredients. Inch.  Some thing freezing like frozen peanuts, frozen berries, frozen yogurt, ice, frozen coconut milk and so forth. Some liquid -- perhaps not just a great deal but only enough to find the mixing begun, and to bring a few creaminess. The majority of times that it is likely to soon be some type of milk, cheese or lotion.  Coconut water, routine juice and water is also used. Flavours & Shades -- un-sweetened cacao powder, vanilla, cinnamon, peppermint, sweeteners (eggs, honey, olive oil, brown rice syrup), berries, citrus juice, nut butters, coconut butter, chocolate chips, coconut flakes, sliced nuts, legumes, super-food powders, and sometimes even a few unsalted liqueurs (OMG!) . Vita-mix Ice-cream recipesSave Here I have come up with three simple base recipes for you started.  It's possible to produce your own elaborate or simple tastes based on everything you have from your house or that which fresh fruit may possibly maintain season.  Checkout this up of Top-20 Vita-mix Ice-creams in my own sister website Happy Human Body Formula to get inspiration. Version Inch  -- Plain Creamy Vanilla Icecream 1/2 cup (120 ml) option of lotion -to get primal peeps this is complete cream or half & half, also for milk free variations utilize coconut oil or coconut milk 1/4 cup wanted detergent, depending on how sweet you need it 1 2 tsp vanilla, or other flavouring like olive oil, cinnamon, nutmeg, Rose-water 2 cups frozen milk cubes (both olive, rice or almond milk, lotion diluted in water to get primal) Makes 2 3 cups Version 2 -- Chocolate Icecream 1 cup (240-250 tsp) low-fat milk of selection or complete water and cream blended 1/2 cup (approximately 3-5 gram) raw Un-sweetened cacao/cocoa powder 1/3 cup wanted natural sweetener 1 tsp vanilla extract 34 cups Ice Makes 3-4 cups Variation 3 -- Banana Nice-cream 2 frozen bananas (pre-sliced bananas can combine simpler) 1/4 cup non-dairy milk like coconut or almond milk 1 tbsp wanted sweetener 1 tsp vanilla (perhaps a little bit of cinnamon) Makes two servings Notice: for every 1 cup of berries or fruit, incorporate 1/3 cup of milk or liquid. vitamix_ice_cream_recipes Put all ingredients in the vita-mix container in the order listed and fasten the lid. Select Variable Inch. Switch the system on and slowly increase rate to Variable 10, and then High -- over 5 7 minutes. Utilize the Stir to press on the components to the blades. In roughly 30-40 moments, the noise of this engine will change and also four mounds should shape. Block the machine and also don't over blend whilst the mix is able to begin to melt down.  Serve immediately or transfer to a freezer for after.  Re-blend after saving in the freezer having a tiny liquid. These guidelines are written for its CSeries vita-mix machines using Variable Speed controller and Conventional 64-ounce container.  You are able to use other high-performance grinder like Blendtec and sometimes even decide to try the Nutribullet, but be certain you make alterations to the Variable Rate, processing period, or component amounts. A heap of spoons using little, stuffed containers of chocolate ice cream Preparing the evaluation So just how would people pick the very best icecream?  By taste, obviously!  (Interesting fact: We taste test most our recipes until they are published.  Test out it.) To assemble a non-biased remark, we chose to run a blind taste test. We all lined replicas of every ice-cream sidebyside, with no sign of packaging, branding or price.  (up-scale brands or trendy packaging may influence people's opinion, though it generally does not always have something to do with flavor)  The ice-creams themselves were on trial. Four candidates carefully clarifying the chocolate ice cream The Warriors We piled up eight icecream fanatics from all over the workplace.  All these people today consider food all day long (they make our books and novels), therefore they've some capable palates. The standards We believed two main faculties: texture and flavor.  All of us were searching for a icecream which needed a rich chocolate flavor and smoothand balanced feel.  It ought to be a thing which people mightn't mind spooning right from the bathtub or mixing to a milk shake. With this criteria in mind we now started tasting one.  Each taste-tester gave each spade a demanding score out of 10 (The greater your score, the greater the spade.) Two judges piling their numbered containers as they keep the flavor evaluation The outcomes Number10: Halo Top Regardless of caution we introduced the group into a low-carb, low-fat icecream.  The strange beige coloring has been that the very first signal that icecream was distinctive from the others. Taste: In contrast to different brands, this ice cream tasted such as a protein shake.  The chocolate flavor was too light to carry a candle to your remainder. Thought: Despite hanging out to the longest period, Ha-Lo Top remained unusually compact and brewed small. Opinions: "Tastes like sodium"  "It is odd it maintained its own contour" Average Rating: 2.4 No9: Purple Cow Purple Cow icecream from Meijer didn't farewell.  The judges dished their blunt remarks. Taste: This icecream had a funny after taste, and folks agreed it tasted "old" Thought: The feel has been off way.  Its consequences was freezing. Comments: "Tastes like Freezer Burn."  "It is fine." Average Rating: 3.2 #8: Market Pantry Our judges' very first comment was "Wow!"  That was then immediately followed closely by, "That is a sugar bomb"  This shovel disappointed lots of our judges and also received exceptional ratings for the flavor and feel. Taste: it is our most sugar-packed spade of this crowd.  Many thought it had been sweet. Thought: A number of these material was shown to be freezing, using a marginally chalk-like top quality. Comments: "Yuck."  "Sugar burst!" Average Rating: 4.2 No7: Dean's Neither the flavor nor feel of this spade thrilled that our judges.  A sort taster indicated that it may work well within a icecream cake as the chocolate flavor was really mild. Taste: Everybody agreed  icecream dropped short.  The flavor was referred to as economical, chalky and lacking from the chocolate section. Thought: The spade needed a strange, freezing texture.  It felt as though the flavor disappeared once it struck your own tongue again.  Moreover, the icecream had held its contour at a almost supernatural way. Remarks: "Tastes chalky."  "No chocolate flavor" Average Rating: 5.4 No6: Kemps The feel of this spade was pleasurable, however, also the flavor got low marks.  Our judges did not linger with the particular brand for long and so were quick to make the journey into the following. Taste: Most noticed  icecream was around the end of this spectrum.  Additionally, the chocolate appeared salty and artificial. Thought: Over the reverse side, this spade was much wider compared to other brands.  The melt quality has been good results.  The icecream had the feel of a softserve. Comments: "Fake."  "Salty."  "much too candy" Average Rating: 5.6 Half-empty containers wrapped haphazardly facing opened cartons of chocolate ice cream No5: HaagenDazs Even though it's certainly one of the very widely used--and pricey--brands, HaagenDazs did not surpass expectations.  Judges thought it had been soso.  The icecream had a markedly lighter look than the remainder, also regrettably it was likewise milder in flavor. Taste: In contrast to different brands, this spade needed a little cinnamon flavor, tasting much like to a Mexican cocoa. Thought: The texture was creamy and nice. Remarks: "The spice carries off from the chocolate flavor"  "nearly sexy!" Average Rating: 6.1 No4: Breyers This ice-cream's flavor was intense, plus some described it to be "delicate"  Not fantastic, but not awful either! Taste: For this spade, the flavor had been hard to discover.  It tasted just like quite a subtle chocolate. Thought: '' There clearly was a chalky feel for the spade, which immediately dry our mouths out.  Water! Remarks: "Bitter after taste."  "a lot like chocolate" Average Rating: 6.4 No3: Cedar Crest Unbeknownst into the testers, this icecream has been from the Wisconsin company.  Taste of Home is located at Milwaukee, therefore we'd to see whether the dairy state would fulfill its reputation!  This spade definitely packaged with creamy flavor, bypassing boundaries over other package. Taste: It was rich, milk chocolate taste.  The judges described there is a small caramel note, too.  For several, this flavor proved to be a fantastic thing, but the others were less enthusiastic. Thought: Cedar Crest remained firm in its own spade.  It had a delicate feel, which melted in the mouth. Remarks: "Certainly milk chocolate"  "had a caramel undertones...I am not fond of all caramel."  "Not chocolate flavor" Average Rating: 8 No2: Blue Bunny This extra-rich ice-cream absolutely impressed our judges.  Even as we assembled round the desk, the smiles climbed with every spoonful.  It only not exactly reached our high choice. Taste: Once comparing to other ice-creams, this spade had a profound chocolate flavor with a small chalky after taste.  My hunch is that it is out of the cherry powder. Thought: The icecream has been creamy and smooth, exactly like good icecream needs to be.  Despite hanging outside from the freezer for a couple of minutes, the spade organized ardently. Remarks: "It is similar to an outdated time-y Dutch chocolate icecream"  "Loaded!" Average Rating: 8.8 Nicole Doster hitting a spoonful into a carton of Edy's chocolate ice cream being hauled out to her No1: Edy's The winner has been clear.  Edy's chocolate pleasure proved to be a stand out one of the crowd.  The flavor and feel proved therefore good some judges moved for seconds. Taste: This ice cream has been rich, creamy and filled with strong, dark chocolate notes.  The intense flavor struck all of the marks on our ginger radar. Idea: The spade remained firm in your own spoon but melted ever-so-softly on orally.  Some predicted it the best ice cream cream simply by far. Remarks: "super-rich with black chocolate notes"  "I loathed everything."  "Really creamy" Average Rating: 8.9 With full bellies, the tasting has been complete.  I frankly couldn't believe just how much icecream we'd swallowed.  Here's a Fast recap: From highest to the lowest measure: Edy's, Blue Bunny, Cedar Crest, Breyers, HaagenDazs, Kemps, Dean's, Market Pantry, Purple Cow and lastly, Ha-Lo Top. Astonished?  So are we.  Listed below are the Main Take Aways: Cost does not require quality. I had been shocked after I realized a pricey icecream such as haagen dazs did not create the most effective three (it ended fifth).  Before this were cheaper brands like Breyers, that will be practically a quarter of the price.  I'll definitely think twice before spending big bucks to get a name. Once it comes to taste, low-carb ice-cream does not consume. A "healthy" ice-cream such as Halo Top came in last place was not a enormous surprise.  As it's low carb, there is hardly any possibility it will have the exact same creamy, flavorful taste as, state, Blue Bunny or even Edy's.  It's really worth noting, however, that Ha-Lo Top clocks init in only 280 calories a watt.  (That is not exactly half of the calories of Edy's!)) For a hostess I wouldn't attempt to function such an icecream for a audience, however, understanding its high-value nutrition reality, I could just throw a scoop or 2 to get myself personally. Everybody's most useful differs. Taste is downright subjective.  Within this very small evaluation set, a few judges did not look after caramel, while some others loved it.  A few preferred a towel that was soft, while some others enjoyed their icecream firm and suspended.  The single method to learn your chosen will be to try on yourself. Desire the icecream?  Ensure it!  In this way it is possible to customize it to your preferences.  Learn the easiest solution to produce great-tasting ice-cream.  No icecream machine necessary. SA: i have never seen a small troll so happy in my life.
SA: I bought them ice cream.
TT: what flavor TT: if you say smTh like vanilla you are going To a(\/)Tually die
SA: why do you hate vanilla so much?
SA: I bought them what they liked best.
SA: it was butter pecan.
ID: guess what chat, i'm bored and bitchy so someone should give me a reason not to be.
ID: or a reason to be more bitchy. that works too.
DD: i think i would prefer to give you a reason to be less bitchy
DD: and in light of that it might be worth asking what you are feeling bitchy about!
DD: you can think of it as talking about your problems but also lets be real gossip is fun and bitching about yout bitchy feelings is cathartic
ID: pff well at least you're honest about why you're concerned. =:P i'm just bitchy because of some stuff that happened that i'm not about to share on the chat. for fear of the wrong eyes seeing.
ID: so sorry, no gossip!
DD: well thats unfortunate clearly i have no reason to keep talking to you DD: im joking of course i am sorry that bad things happened the fun part of gossip is getting together with friends to trash talk the people you dislike not the nature of the suffering itself DD: in the end it is my overall preference that my friends do not feel shitty DD: and as we have totally established we are at least on the first tier of friendship >:D
ID: you a trash talking pro then there daz? =:P i'll have to remember not to upset you. so you can't drag my good name through the mud.
ID: the first step of a long climb, you gotta be dedicated to this friendship.
DD: well okay to be honest i am not usually the one doing the trash talking unless it is in respect to my mechanical equipment some of which has developed an attitude as a result of the artificial intelligence frames i have installed to assist me with my work but that is more affectionate trashtalking like one might perform when calling their pet cuttlefish fat DD: mostly it is my friend trash talking but when i have issues i have to acknowledge usually it is me messing up like it was earlier with prisma and in those cases i just kind of go be by myself a bit because trash talking is fun but me crying to someone is significantly less so
DD: and of course i am dedicated or well as dedicated as i have reason to be which is to say you are fun to talk to and i can see myself doing so for the forseeable future but i am afraid i am not yet ready to lay down my life for you no matter how much colorful claw varnish you introduce me to
ID: man can you type. or is this a talk to text program. either way you're fast. and wordy.
ID: not saying its bad.
ID: before you get offended.
DD: i type very quickly but i am told i talk very quickly as well it is sometimes a problem but unfortunately i have a hard time telling when it is appropriate to stop because really i want to say all of the things that are relevant and i think theyre all important DD: also i am not offended dont worry you are only saying the truth
ID: and you should trash talk more, it's great.
DD: i dont really have anybody to trash talk though!
DD: except maybe the people on team jaycob
DD: they have awful taste that is quite worthy of trashing
ID: so far i don't think we've seen any of them around.
DD: the problem remains! 😦
DD: to clarify that is a sarcastic smiley i am not actually that torn up over the issue of not having a fight to pick with people and i am afraid i have been coming of as sufficiently ditzy lately that that may be unclear
ID: hahah, well. if it makes you feel better chat rooms are hard to guage that sort of shit.
ID: though some people put /s at the end of sarcastic remarks to indicate sarcasm.
DD: i feel like thats a little bit too on the nose sometimes
ID: also the colorful claw varnish is the best and you're really missing out by not going out and purchasing some that changes color.
DD: but its still probably better than a long paragraph explaining my intentions so i will keep it in mind!
ID: it's hella fun to run under different temperatured water.
ID: just use it when you reallllyyyy don't want someone to get offended.
DD: and oh dear well that is what we are going shopping for later isnt it! DD: there is not very much of anything at all to buy here in such a small town though admittedly the local burgers are delicious and its always more fun to buy that sort of thing in person with friends than just ordering it online for drone delivery
ID: because when they're already het up a long explanation can make it worse.
DD: why would people be offended?
ID: also yeah you probably went to the same burger place as i did with gliese and they had some fantastic burgers.
ID: because it can come off as...
ID: what's the word.
ID: that means you're talking down to a troll because you think they're dumb.
DD: condescending!
ID: that.
DD: and oh dear that makes sense DD: i think that was the issue with my apology explanation earlier as well DD: i was worried that i might be misrepresenting myself and i did not want prisma to think i was acting out of malice but really it came off like i thought he was dumb
DD: that sucks 😦
ID: yeah, it's a slippery slope of being understood and coming off as a prick.
ID: slipperier for you since you're a fish.
DD: !!
DD: what do you mean
ID: ....look, you know how stereotypes work right.
ID: the biggest stereotype for a fish for us lowbloods is that every troll with fins is a jerk.
DD: i have had little experience with socializing with large numbers of people DD: i have had much experience with watching tv
DD: and oh dear
DD: ... i guess i knew that i just didnt really think about it or how it might apply to me
ID: yeahhh. see you're in a position where you can just. not apply things to yourself and be safe doing it.
ID: where us lowerbloods have to be more wary and careful.
ID: better to assume a highblood is gonna mess you up. rather than trust one and get fucked up. y'know?
DD: ... yeah
DD: that makes sense DD: D:
DD: ... do i maybe come off like a person that would mess somebody else up though like generally stereotypes aside
ID: well i mean.
ID: if you were really devoted.
ID: some fish like to play the long con.
DD: the long con??
DD: i mean i understand what you mean i just dont understand why that would be something that you might be concerned about somebody else doing
ID: ...because i like living.
ID: and am also maybe a little paranoid.
DD: hm! DD: i am just asking because i mean yes i understand that i am a seadweller and this means i am sturdier than most lowbloods but also there are other seadwellers fully capable of hurting me too both physically emotionally socially and financially and in fact i have recently narrowly escaped an assassination attempt but i suppose i still do not see that much reason to be consistently concerned about somebody playing a long con on me DD: thought maybe that is why somebody tried to cull me so you may have a point in that respect
ID: hahah why did they try to assassinate you...? =:/
ID: is that what happened to your horns.
DD: yes!
DD: and i suppose it is because i am one of the two chief executives of a very rapidly successful starship tech company and there are some issues with you know brand competition
DD: and resentment because the field thus far has been dominated primarily by long-standing memebers of it an i am fairly young as well as the issue that well
iD: oh. yeah. cut-throat business, they don't like the new fish muscling in on things. i get it. i mean it's shitty but i understand.
DD: one of the other recent entrants into the field of helmstechnology development is qpin and they are uniquely known for their ruthless competitiveness though of course i cant strictly say that they were behind it
DD: though my co-ceo says it was likely them because the queenpin is the head and she has a lot of trouble in terms of competitiveness on account of being a jadeblood
DD: but all of that is politics and i am afraid that i am not particularly great at it and i have no idea who it was
ID: ...also jeesh i guess i should have. expected you to be working on helm shit since you're at the helm station. i'm kinda glad you're not allowed to talk about what you're developing now.
ID: but congrats on not dying.
ID: or becoming too maimed to continue working.
ID: sorry about the horns though.
DD: thank you!!
DD: i appreciate your celebration of my narrow avoidance of death : P
DD: also what is wrong with as you phrased it helm shit?
DD: i will refrain from talking about it if it makes you uncomfortable but i am afraid i dont understand
ID: you're the only person who is apparently willing to chat tonight so i'm glad you survived long enough to chat. =:P
ID: i don't like helm shit. it's like.
ID: the text version of claws on a chalkboard for me.
DD: truly high accolades
SA: nobody asked if they wanted me in the chat :/
DD: and oh my goodness well i will keep that in mind
DD: umm
ID: pris! sorry, i assumed you were napping.
SA: i'm teasing.
DD: i think maybe the assumption was that you were not present on account of earlier hads said-
DD: oh
DD: oops
ID: =:P
ID: 💚
DD: 💜 >:D
DD: do you maybe have anything that you would like to trash talk about because we have recently arrived at the conclusion that it is a worthwhile endeavor but i have nobody to trash talk and hads is being very secretive about the source of his miffedness
ID: yeah pris, give us some trash talk. =:P
SA: oh.
SA: um.
SA: ...
SA: this is. rather hard.
DD: unless of course you would like to join hads in the club of secretiveness which i assume is alternatively titled the club of the subjects of the trash talking being potentially present in the chatroom at a later date?
SA: no, I have no secret salt. I have made most of it known.
ID: yeah pris is a pretty honest guy.
DD: oh in that case what is difficult?
SA: I do not tend to hold on to animosity for extreme periods of time.
SA: It takes energy I do not have.
SA: I would rather reserve it for stopping hadean from getting into a bonus fight after Ashley.
SA: let me think.
ID: =:PPPP
DD: oh dear DD: see that statement there sounds a little bit like salt though maybe perhaps not the sort that is meant to be a source of amusement
ID: i need a post-victory fight tho pris!
SA: i think that it's very stupid that high bloods become very offended when I enter their space.
SA: they can't stand the idea i have as much money as them.
SA: that is sufficiently salty.
DD: also i think i understand that i tend to not hold onto angry feelings for very long but i in general am a lot more inclined to be sad rather than mad
ID: i'll take it! that's some salt. fuck them for getting snooty.
DD: and i appreciate the pun there though i am not sure what you mean DD: i dont find you offensive to be around at all
ID: the stereotypical fish daz.
DD: oh this is about stereotypes again
SA: it must be hard to live life with such a fragile ego that because someone is well-tailored and capable of pulling several thousand out of their wallet in cash, you must threaten them as much as possible to feel powerful again.
ID: do i gotta punch someone for you pris?
SA: you do not need a post victory fight you need a post-victory ice cream and bandaids.
ID: =:PPPP
SA: also dazzle I am regularly somewhat salty at Hadean. it is the spice of our friendship.
DD: yes seconding hads though more in spirit of concern rather than desire to actually punch anybody what i mean is that it sounds like you recently had a bad experience
DD: is that why hads is the saltlick
SA: yes but taht's also because he's salty anyways.
SA: ❤
ID: is salt a spice now.
ID: 💚
DD: <3< ??
ID: what.
SA: i did not recently have one, no. It just happens when I leave the loft. I live in West Haven, which is majority high-bloods.
ID: no. definitely no.
DD: platonic spade i suppose but i cannot find it in blue
DD: or purple or green
SA: oh no. It's not like that at all.
SA: I thought salt was a spice... is something only a spice if it grows?
ID: idk.
ID: daz is salt a spice.
DD: i am going to say yes though mostly out of convenience for the sake of making puns and less because i actually know
SA: oh.
SA: well that's as good of an answer as any.
DD: although on the topic of growing i can at least say acid is often used to spice food underwater so
DD: there is at least that
SA: that sounds like. hell.
SA: but i suppose i won't judge i eat scorpions.
ID: ...how does. acid food taste...?
ID: does acid impart a flavor?
SA: is it citrus-y, dazzle
DD: that depends on the acid you use i suppose sometimes it is bitter and other times it is more sour and unfortunately i cannot tell you if it is citrusy on account of i have never had a citrus fruit though it does not taste much like orange candies if that helps
DD: also it is often used to cook food not just season it
ID: huh.
ID: weird.
SA: you should try an orange sometime. they are wonderful
DD: more weird than eating scorpions?? :{
DD: and apparently also squirrels
ID: i like berries the best out of fruit. but they're usually more expensive.
SA: I do not eat rodents.
ID: since they spoil quicker.
ID: i eat squirrels. =:P
SA: horrid.
ID: any port in a storm pris.
DD: i will have to try both oranges and berries in that case maybe even a smoothie consisting of both 😄
SA: do not do that.
SA: Orange is a very particular flavor.
DD: i am taking this landdweller food thing step by step
DD: oh
DD: interesting
SA: citrus pairs well with other citrus.
ID: try orange juice.
ID: that's easy to find.
SA: lemon and lime, for example. Or Mango and orange.
SA: yes.
SA: orange juice.
ID: mango is a citrus? =:????
SA: ,...I always thought it was.
SA: "While both citrus and tropical fruits are grown in warm climates, citrus fruits refer specifically to the genus of flowering fruits in the Rutaceae family, which include oranges, grapefruits and lemons as well as certain other species and hybrids such as the pomelo, key lime and citron. Mango is not a citrus"
SA: now I'm mad at Hadean for telling me mango is not a citrus.
DD: i think i will just buy a pile of fruit
DD: and see which ones i enjoy
SA: and ruining sweeps of disbelief.
ID: ...i mean. mangos are too sweet for a citrus.
ID: was my logic.
SA: are... are oranges not sweet to you.
ID: not as sweet as a mango!
ID: oranges have that citrus taste!
SA: make sure you learn how to prepare them, Dazzle.
DD: you mean you cant eat them raw??
ID: yeah but some of them you don't eat the outsides.
ID: like citrus fruits.
DD: maybe i can go to a fruit restaurant
SA: just putting a mango in your mouthi s not the most brilliant idea.
ID: but you can eat the outside of a mango can't you?
SA: no.
SA: you also can't eat the outside of a banana.
SA: or.
SA: You can but it will make you very sad.
SA: I learned this the hard way.
SA: It was unfortunate.
ID: 'Answer: Although the pit of a mango isn't considered edible, some people do eat the mango skin. The skin is bitter-tasting, but the peel contains several healthful chemical compounds, including powerful antioxidants mangiferin, norathyriol, and resveratrol.'
ID: i have no idea what any of those words mean.
SA: so the short version is it will make you sad.
SA: healthy.
SA :but sad.
DD: i need to be healthier i think but i do not want to be more sad
DD: but maybe the health will be making up for it because honestly most of my sadness as of late has come from my health
SA: are you of poor constitution?
ID: i'll be honest and admit i've never eaten a mango. so i was guessing on eating the skin.
DD: not usually!!!
DD: i am just
ID; adjusting to being on land?
DD: not used to living on the land and everything is very dry and my gills hurt a lot and everything tastes weird so i am also hungry all the time
DD: and also everything is very hot
SA: you would probably be happier in a bay area.
SA: why they let you move to a desert
SA: Is beyond me.
ID: because of the station pris.
SA: yes, but... why put it there.
ID: close to a lowblood settlement.
DD: because it is a remote location where i am unlikely to be found again by the person who previously attempted to assassinate me and also because there is a psionic training station that is located in the area on account of it being a lowblood locale with a high psionic concentration
SA: oh so abducting.
DD: and that is very useful for my research
ID: easy to lure them away from a shitty town to be experimented on.
DD: i mean i am
DD: unsure i would phrase it that way
DD: ... the luring not the town thing the town is pretty shitty
ID: good thing i did it for you.
DD: oh dear
ID: you're poor and life sucks and maybe your lusus is dead and you're scared.
ID: some highblood offering you candy if you come to his station sounds pretty good.
DD: actually i believe most of the recruiting is done through online means
SA: a more polite way of saying it would be that it is often easier to accept being an pet and know you are cared for than it is to be free and struggle.
ID: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ my point remains.
DD: and the payment tends to be in caegars and i know that is not what you mean i simply think you maybe are not representing it very accurately
ID: it's still sucky to do.
ID: most of those trolls have to choose between that and death.
DD: i mean it is also kind of sucky to work public service at a cafe but
ID: ...i mean a cafe doesn't screw things in to you.
SA: being a living experiment and test subject is very different from being subject to a screaming indigo about how their latte was not enough foam.
ID: you can leave a shitty cafe job.
SA: ...do they foam lattes...
SA: I dont know.
SA: I have the all the time, and I have never thought about it.
ID: and you're probably less likely to die in a cafe job.
ID: or fry your psi.
ID: and probably get culled for that.
DD: well i mean first of all the only test subjects are the two cerulean trolls i believe and also the people that volunteer to help me out but that part is not mandatory the main purpose of this station is to prepare trolls that have been conscripted for helmservice for an easier transition upon ascension and also accept anybody that would like to volunteer for the service without conscription not
DD: testing things really
ID: yeah well i bet if you asked a lot of wrigglers why they volunteered.
ID: you'd get a lot of 'i didn't have any other option' answers.
DD: hm
DD: i guess i do not know
SA: does it not
SA; unsettle you.
ID: you sure don't! but the first step is realizing you don't know.
SA: that our ships are using an archiac biotechnical method of power when we could built a technical system or a disocnnecting system for them.
SA: My pilot training used my inhibitor to join and disconnect me from a ship without hurting me in the slightest.
SA: and yet this isn't the norm.
ID: man you also hear those stories about them chopping a helms' fronds off.
ID: since they don't need them for anything.
DD: well as a starship technician i kind of have to argue your useage of the word archaic because the biotech we have developed is currently eons ahead of our purely mechanical methods of transportation which are heavily limited by both fuel systems and speed and also i am not sure that you are hearing accurate stories about limb removal that is definitely not a standard practice and would probably be actively detrimental to the process and helmsman adjustment and biowire integration DD: as would be constantly placing the pilot into painful situations upon connect and reconnect though maybe that may be the case withoutdated systems??? DD: the point of helmsman system design is to ensure a fluid and efficient connection
ID: ...huh.
ID: i mean tbh i never really paid attention to schoolfeeding about helms since. you gotta figure that stuff is just propaganda to make you think it's great.
DD: a decent amount of it probably is but that is the case with all fleet propaganda!! which is not necessarily a bad thing to be honest if you ask me personally because focusing on the negative aspects of a situation is never going to motivate anybody when you think about it regardless of what the job it
ID: i mean the ratio of cons to pros of some jobs are a lot easier to swallow than others. =:P
DD: that is very true DD: i would not want to be a garbage person i am not ashamed to admit this
ID: and i like walking.
DD: or a fighter like sipara i am fairly sturdy but i do not like being attacked
ID: if you could not tell by my adventurer lifestyle.
ID: and you can say that i can explore wayyyy more stuff in a ship but i'm pretty sure it is soooo not the same.
DD: haha yes that is true i suppose i do not consider it much considering i am both very fond of swimming over walking and also my experience on starships as a nonpsionic troll involves not very much walking anyways
DD: partially because i am stuck in my coon trying to adjust to orbit but also primarily because there is also not much room to walk
ID: ...i guess since i've already dived in to this ball of squick i might as well ask since you'd know best.
ID: does like. your kind of psi make you better or worse or not usable for a helm?
DD: yes very much so!
DD: there is a psionic ranking system of course in terms of the amount of raw power available but also the type of psionics make a difference for example cerulean psychics and indigos are not functional for ship powering at all and varieties among lowbloods that exhibit nonphysical properties such as clairvoyance are typically not high enough on the actual kinetic energy production to be able to power a ship with any efficiency as conversion to a useable power source is often very inefficient and also takes up energy in the process which rather defeats the point
DD: for example telekinetic type psionics tend to be the most effective for helming while more psychically oriented powers are not
SA: sometimes hybridization allows multifaceted psionics but it's also very rare in natural occurance.
SA: i can pilot a starfighter with my telekinesis as long as the ship and my inhibitor are programmed to allow the link through.
Sa: But an entire ship wuld be beyond me.
SA; and for the most part starfighters rely on a psion's ability to generate shields and manipulate other variables for a quicker reactions time, but not flight itself.
DD: there are also augments that assist with that!
ID: hahahah okay can this be enough helms talk now.
ID: i've exceeded my comfort zone.
DD: that is part of what the psionic training facility that i am part of helps with-
DD: oh dear my apologies
DD: i will stop!
SA: 😃
ID: i mean i asked so it's fine.
ID: just. new convo now plzkthx.
ID: ...i mean i should volunteer a new subject huh.
ID: pris did you have dinner?
ID: both of you for that matter.
ID: miss hungry because i don't eat.
SA: ...
SA: maybe.
ID: =>:I the ice cream you had earlier isn't dinner btw.
SA: i had a fruit salad.
DD: dinner??
DD: ...
DD: oh dear
DD: i am afraid i lost track of time
DD: i was going to say i did have dinner but that feels as though it was a long time ago and it occurs to me that that may have been dinner yesternight and it is possible that part of my discomfort with my health is because i am actually very hungry
ID: i'm gonna make you both set alarms to eat. =>:(
ID: a fruit salad and ice cream isn't enough for a night pris.
SA: mrmrm.
SA: I'll be back in a bit.
ID: if you get lonely while eating call sips' mobile and i'll steal it to vid chat. =:P
SA: well I may as well call it now then.
SA: i am.
SA: go find it.
ID: woofbesat, fetch. i see how it is. =:PPP
DD: i unfortunately tend to not notice my alarms it has been somewhat detrimental my friend used to ahve somebody come pull me away from my work and i thought it was sillybut now i am realizing it was probably very necessary
ID: get one of those bracelets that vibrate as an alarm.
ID: they might work better.
DD: but also that is my cue to go find food before i keel over and die so goodbye it was lovely talking to you and also that is a good idea i should find one of those
ID: ...damnit now the chat is empty again. =>:(
VC: Not quite.
VC: I'm taking a rrest on a courrierr trip, what's everryone else up to?
ID: uh i sent all the hungry skeletons off to eat because they all forget or think that a fruit salad is a meal.
ID: so they're doing that. and i'm just sitting here twiddling ym thumbs and watching pris eat on vid-chat on another mobile.
ID: ....is it rude to text someone while watching another troll in a vid chat.
SA: i'm talking.
SA: asshole.
SA: that. that wasn't serious
VC: Oh, I don't think I've met you before, SA.
SA: Hello.
SA: I am prisma.
ID: =:P i can multitask pris!
VC: I'm Cennef. And you and Hadean apparently know each other well, I take it?
ID: yeah we're buds.
ID: pris is cool, so be nice to him. =:P
SA: cennef. it's nice to meet you.
VC: He's yellow, what reason do I have to _not_ be civil?
VC: It's not like he's one of this room's silly highbloods.
VC: You seem well-mannerrred, so I agrree in turrn.
ID: he can speak kinda highblood-y sometimes but it was just how he was raised so don't pick on him. =:P
VC: Mannerrs and phrrassing of some things isn't an exclusive highblood trrait. I harrdly would.
VC: Pherrres talks like he's trrrying to sound cerrulean sometimes and that doesn't botherr me.
ID: i mean glad you understand that. some lowbloods get so offended when you use a 'highblood' term!
ID: like saying tub is gonna turn you blue.
VC: Ha. I may not carre forr highbloods, but - oh _rreally_
VC: Using theirr language isn't exactly a sin.
VC: That's rridiculous.
ID: you've never met a lowblood who got all snooty with you over it?
ID: the 'uhm, did you mean ABLUTION TRAP?' types?
VC: I suppose I have now that I think of it, but they arren't exactly trrolls I spent a lot of time arround.
VC: My ex quads werren't like that at all, norr arre any of my currrent frriends.
ID: wise move. there's having a grudge against highbloods and then there's overcull.
VC: I rreally only have a grrrudge against _one_ highblood, but I do lack fondness forr them in generral.
SA: i overcull teal bloods.
VC: Though perrhaps it might be prrrudent to stop talking about it in case any of them do come in.
SA: they have always patronized me.
SA: 😉
VC: Pfft, what
VC: I know you'rre joking, but I don't rreally get it
ID: hahah, it's a chat thing. we joke that teals are the worst because they're in the middle so they lash out more.
VC: Ohhhh
VC: To be honest, I have only met one tealblood outside of deliverries, which don't rreally count.
VC: He was...verrry odd.
ID: that's a tealblood for you.
VC: Well, he wasn't a lawtroll orr anything. He was some sorrt of perrforrmer.
ID: ...huh. was it the dumpster troll.
ID: ...do you know what i'm talking about. probably not.
VC: ...he cerrtainly _belonged_ in a dumpsterr but otherrwise no, I do not.
VC: Mine talked like some sorrt of flowerrry idiot and called himself barrd.
VC: Is that what this dumpsterr trroll did.
ID: yes!
VC: Oh my god.
SA: why is there a known dumpster dweller.
ID: he got ceruleans mad about historical bulge piercings.
SA; what dessert should I get?
VC: _Oh my god._
ID: and they threw him in a dumpster.
ID: ...the fluffy one.
VC: For once. I am on the bluebloods' side.
VC: _What is wrong with him._
VC: Correction.
VC: How many things arrre wrrong with him.
ID: and then he started dueling them in the dumpster.
VC: Though I'd probably be -
VC: _Highbloods._
ID: until someone came and rescued his hide.
ID: it was hilarious.
VC: That's completely rrridiculous.

9 foolproof and delicious recipes for boneless, skinless chicken breasts
When it comes to quick and easy eating, few ingredients stack up quite like boneless, skinless chicken breasts. This supermarket staple is simple to cook and can be prepped in such a wide variety of ways, that it’s probably always on your weekly shopping list. You just know you’re going to use it and even if you don’t, chicken can easily be frozen for future meals. In fact, do your budget a favor and pick up a value pack of breasts to freeze in individual or family-size portions, so you always have a wallet-friendly dinner at the ready.
No doubt you have a few favorite chicken recipes in your back pocket, but considering the ease, affordability and versatility of boneless breasts, why not mix up your repertoire with a few fresh ideas? Here, chefs and food experts, including Giada De Laurentiis, Andrew Zimmern, Urvashi Pitre, Cassy Joy Garcia, Serena Wolf, Nik Sharma, Marge Perry and David Bonom share the chicken dishes they make over and over again. Their recipes show just how much you can do with simple chicken breasts, including grilling, roasting and stir-frying, plus how well this lean protein takes to different flavors. So, stock your fridge and freezer and get ready for some serious kitchen inspiration.
Lighter Chicken MilaneseElizabeth Newman
“This dish is easy to throw together on a weeknight with everything I always have in my kitchen: boneless, skinless chicken breasts, fennel, onion and canned tomatoes,” says TV personality, cookbook author and restaurateur Giada De Laurentiis. It’s a lighter — not to mention speedier — take on an Italian classic. “The breadcrumbs are still there for crunch, but by sprinkling them on top, the prep is even easier and cleaner,” explains De Laurentiis.
Creamy Italian Chicken FlorentineGiadzy
For another weeknight-friendly chicken dish, De Laurentiis looks to Tuscany. “These chicken breasts are simple yet delicious.” Plus, most of the supporting ingredients are ones you likely have on hand and the recipe takes just 30 minutes from start to finish. Serving the chicken breasts over spinach “adds balance and makes them a complete meal,” notes De Laurentiis. And if you have fresh spinach, feel free to use it in place of the frozen.
Deconstructed Chicken Caesar SaladMarge Perry / Marge Perry
This quick, deconstructed salad, from Marge Perry and David Bonom’s cookbook, “Hero Dinners: Complete One-Pan Meals That Save the Day” puts a new spin on a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. “Roasting boneless, skinless breasts to temperature results in juicy, tender chicken — and couldn’t be simpler!” insists Perry. “The key is using an instant-read thermometer and cooking the chicken until it is safe but not overcooked and dry: 160°F.” It’s also essential to let the chicken rest. “If you were to slice the chicken right away, the juices would pour out onto the cutting board, which would result in drier, less tender chicken,” explains Perry.
Curry Leaf Popcorn ChickenNik Sharma
Seasoning chicken breasts with a marinade gives them “a whole new life,” says Nik Sharma, the blogger behind A Brown Table and author of “Season: Big Flavors, Beautiful Food”. Sharma combines buttermilk, lime juice, serrano chiles, scallions, ginger, garlic, curry leaves, cayenne, coriander, cardamom and cumin and recommends marinating for at least four hours and up to eight. His recipe is “a playful take on fried chicken with a big boost of flavors and a great way to introduce curry leaves to folks that are new to it.” If you’re nervous about frying, don’t be. It’s a lot easier to fry small chunks of chicken than whole, bone-in pieces and Sharma has two handy tips: Cut the chicken into equal size pieces so it cooks evenly and watch the temperature of the oil. Otherwise, there’s nothing to it.
Chicken Paillarde Panzanella SaladMadeleine Hill
This speedy supper, from Andrew Zimmern, the James Beard Award-winning TV personality, chef, executive producer and host of Travel Channel’s “Bizarre Foods”, pairs grilled chicken with Panzanella, a traditional Italian bread salad. Zimmern seasons boneless, skinless chicken breasts with garlic, parsley and chives and then gently pounds them, so they can be quickly charred over high heat and will “look beautiful on the plate.” Pounding also makes them tender enough for “fork only” eating. Zimmern’s Panzanella features tomato, basil, fennel, and grapefruit, but he encourages you to improvise with what looks good at the farmers’ market.
Moroccan Chicken & Rice SkilletCassy Joy Garcia
“I love the unique flavors of this dish and that it’s so easy to pull together,” says Cassy Joy Garcia, the blogger behind Fed + Fit and author of the cookbook, “Cook Once, Eat All Week: 26 Weeks of Gluten-Free, Affordable Meal Prep to Preserve Your Time & Sanity”. Boneless, skinless breasts are generously seasoned with a blend of ginger, cumin, garlic, paprika and turmeric then seared in a hot pan. Next, rice is cooked in the same pan, so it picks up all that great Moroccan-inspired flair. Green olives, lemon wedges and chopped fresh cilantro add a little color and brightness to the final dish.
Pesto Prosciutto Chicken BreastsCassy Joy Garcia / Cassy Joy Garcia
“Chicken is really easy to work with,” insists Garcia, who pairs boneless breasts with homemade roasted garlic pesto and prosciutto. “The pesto and prosciutto offer wonderful flavor, bringing chicken from standard to really exciting,” says Garcia. Plus, “it’s an easy protein to prepare in advance, so you can enjoy it for several meals throughout the week.” Garcia recommends pairing the chicken with simple roasted potatoes and a green salad for a complete feast.
Superfood Stir-FrySerena Wolf
“Boneless, skinless chicken breasts get a bad rap for being dry and tasteless, but that’s because most people overcook and under season the protein, says Serena Wolf, the blogger behind Domesticate Me and author of the upcoming “The Dude Diet Dinnertime: 125 Clean(ish) Recipes for Weeknight Winners and Fancypants Dinners”. But, if you season the meat well — even just with salt and pepper —and stick to the suggested cooking time, this lean protein can’t be beat. Sliced or diced breast meat is particularly good in stir-fries, because it cooks quickly and absorbs flavor so well, explains Wolf. To guarantee the chicken stays juicy, Wolf cooks it on its own then adds it back to the pan after the other ingredients are ready.
Indian Chicken Tikka BitesTwo Sleevers
For her couldn’t-be-simpler Indian Chicken Tikka Bites, Urvashi Pitre, the blogger behind Two Sleevers and the author of “Keto Fat Bombs, Sweet & Treats: Over 100 Recipes and Ideas for Low-Carb Breads, Cakes, Cookies and More”, uses a marinade of yogurt, garlic, ginger and spices to tenderize and flavor the meat. “You can cook the chicken quickly, but still have a tender little mouthful of spicy goodness,” says Pitre. Her other trick is to cook the chicken in ghee, which is clarified butter. It has a higher smoke point than regular butter, so you can use high heat to sear the chicken. Ghee can be purchased at many supermarkets, or you can make your own in less than 20 minutes with Pitre’s easy recipe.

How to Make Movie Theatre Popcorn at Home
Recipe At-A-Glance
Skip the expensive concession stand and make buttery, delicious movie theatre popcorn at home with this simple step-by-step tutorial.
Popcorn gets a bad rap a lot of times as far as snack foods go. I understand why—the stuff that comes in the bags from the vending machine or from the concession stand at the movie theatre is packed full of nasty chemicals, artificial colors and flavors, and more hydrogenated oils and salt than anyone should be consuming in a snack.
And don’t even get me started on the microwave bags of popcorn. While there are some natural and organic options out there, the vast majority of microwave popcorn is loaded with a laundry list of chemicals and general nastiness.
Popcorn itself is actually a crazy delicious, crazy healthy snack food. If you air pop your kernels (in either the microwave, a popper or on the stove), you can eat a whopping three cups of the stuff for less than 100 calories. And in that 100 calories, you’re getting a hefty dose of healthy whole grains, vitamins, minerals and a very satisfying crunch.
If you’re strapped for cash, it’s hard to beat the affordability of air-popped popcorn. By skipping the boxes of microwave popcorn and heading straight for a bag of kernels, you can save a boatload of cash. Bagged kernels cost about 400% less on average than the microwave stuff (and, obviously, a ton less than the concession stand variety).
To air pop in the microwave, all you need is a small brown paper bag and some popcorn kernels. Put a couple of tablespoons of kernels in the bottom of the bag. Fold over the top of the bag twice. Place on its side in the microwave and zap on high for 2-3 minutes, or until the popping slows. Eat. Easy, peasy.
But let’s get real here—sometimes air-popped popcorn is boring. And the truth is, microwave and movie theatre popcorn is freakin’ delicious (especially when mixed with Reese’s Pieces—try it next time you’re at the movies—my gift to you). It’s buttery, it’s salty, and it evokes such awesome memories of date nights at the movies as a teenager and watching Friends re-runs with my girlfriends in the dorm.
Sometimes, you just want some butter on your popcorn! But if you’ve ever tried to use straight melted butter on homemade popcorn before, you know it has it’s issues. Namely, because butter has such a high water content, it makes the popcorn almost instantly soggy. No one wants soggy popcorn! To avoid this, movie theaters actually don’t user butter at all, and use butter-flavored oils (yuck), but you can use butter at home, just as long as your clarify it first.
It sounds complicated, but clarifying butter is actually a breeze in the microwave, and it removes enough of the water to leave you with buttery, perfectly crunchy popcorn. Let me show you how I make my movie theatre popcorn at home on the stove.
First up, gather those ingredients. For a large batch of popcorn (enough to satisfy 2-4 movie snackers or one pregnant lady who is eating popcorn for dinner), you’ll need a 1/2 cup of kernels, 1 stick of butter (salted or unsalted, either works), salt, and two tablespoons cooking oil.
I like to use coconut oil for one big reason: many movie theaters use a coconut oil blend to pop their popcorn. It doesn’t really add a coconut flavor to the end result, but it does add a layer of flavor that other cooking oils just don’t quite match. It’s what makes popcorn taste like the stuff from the movies.
The first step in my movie theatre popcorn process is actually to clarify the butter. If you have ghee kicking around (which is more or less a version of clarified butter), you can skip this part and just melt your ghee and use it straight on your popcorn. But for those of us ghee-less folks, here’s how to do a quick and dirty clarification. Put stick of butter in a glass measuring cup (you’ll need to use the spout later).
Microwave on high for 30-40 seconds, or until the butter is all melted and foamy.
You should start to see the butter separating into three layers—foam, clarified butter and milk solids. Don’t worry if the layers aren’t super clear when you first take it out of the microwave, the layers will settle more as the butter cools. Plus, we’re not looking for perfection here, just to get rid of enough water to keep our popcorn crunchy.
Take a spoon and skim off as much of the foam on top as you can. Again, no need to be perfect. Just get as much as you can.
You’ll be left with a very clear, very yellow layer of clarified butter, with a layer of milk solids underneath. Awesome work! Set that aside.
Now onto the actual popping process. You’ll want a big pot with a lid for this. Why? Well, popcorn expands (duh)! I don’t recommend using a heavy pot (like a Dutch oven), because you’ll need to shake the pot throughout the popping process. And man, cast iron is hard to shake.
Put your pot on high heat and add in the coconut oil.
Once the oil is completely melted, toss in your popcorn kernels.
Swirl the pot around so that each and every kernel gets a nice little coating of coconut oil, and is more or less in a single layer.
Every now and again, give the pan a good shake to mix up the kernels and keep them from burning.
Soon enough, you’ll have the very exciting moment where your first kernel pops. After that, things happen quickly! Action shot.
Hurry up and put on the lid of the pot, slightly ajar to release steam, because if you don’t you’ll have popcorn flying all over your kitchen. I’ve had kernels fly 15 feet—no exaggeration. You want to save all that popcorn goodness! But you also want to make sure to release the steam, because that’ll also make your popcorn soggy.
While the popcorn is popping, keep shaking the pot frequently. For the most part, the cooked kernels float to the top of the pot, which keeps them from burning, while the unpopped kernels stay at the bottom. It’s a good system, and means that I almost never burn popcorn on the stove (I can’t say the same for in the microwave), but it’s still good to give the pot a little jiggle every now and again.
Within a few minutes, you’ll hear the popping slow down to almost a crawl. Turn off the burner and just let it sit for a few minutes. Because you’ll have some slow-pokes still popping. Even still, trust me, the second you take off the lid, a straggler will pop right into your eye. Not that I know from experience or anything.
You’ve got yourself a beautiful pot full of popcorn! Now, grab your measuring cup of butter and start to slowly stream it onto the popcorn. At first you’ll see nothing but clear, bright yellow clarified butter.
But as you get to the end of the clarified part, you’ll start to see that third opaque, white layer—the milk solids. Stop right then! We just want the clarified butter on our popcorn—not the milk solids. Go ahead and reserve those milk solids for something else; they’re a great addition to pasta sauce, omelets and baked goods to give a bit of creaminess. Lots of folks just toss them, but I’m way too cheap frugal to do something crazy like that.
Stir up your popcorn really well to make sure every kernel gets a touch of butter.
Sprinkle on your desired amount of salt (if you use salted butter, you might want to go light on the salt at first). You can also feel free to add other flavorings (garlic salt, ranch mix, etc.) during this stage—but I’m a purist.
And then go pop in a movie, get cozy and enjoy your much healthier, much tastier (in my opinion) movie theatre popcorn! The popcorn tastes even better if you serve it up in some mega cute popcorn boxes.
If clarifying your butter seems like an annoying step to do each time you make movie theatre popcorn (it really isn’t, it’s probably a two-minute process), you can actually make large batches of clarified butter and stash them in the fridge for months at a time and then just melt a little bit as you need it. Because most of the water and milk solids are removed from the butter when it’s clarified, it keeps for much longer than standard butter.
Clarified butter is also great to have kicking around because, unlike regular butter, it has a really high smoke point. Meaning you can add lots of buttery flavor to dishes that cook at a high temperature (think: pan frying). Here is a great tutorial for making larger quantities of clarified butter on the stove. If you do want to stash your clarified butter in the fridge for extended periods of time, it’s important to be a bit more persnickety with the amount of moisture and milk solids you remove than what I describe here. The tutorial I linked to recommends straining through multiple layers of cheesecloth.
Here’s a full recipe for the movie theatre popcorn, for easy printing!

Radical Metabolism Made Quick, Easy, and Affordable
https://healthandfitnessrecipes.com/?p=9999
Radical Metabolism doesn’t have to be time consuming or expensive – here’s how you can save both time and money on the plan.
It’s no secret that eating healthy and taking nutritional supplements is an excellent investment in your health and for your weight loss goals, but sometimes the budget or a busy schedule can get in the way of your best intentions. Over the past four decades, I’ve worked with thousands upon thousands of men and women looking to improve their health and slim their waistlines, and I’ve taken notes on the creative solutions they’ve come up with to fit my plans into their hectic lifestyles and tight budgets.
While at first glance, Radical Metabolism may look like it’s full of expensive, exotic ingredients, I can assure you that I created this plan with options in mind just for people like you. I’d like to share with you my comprehensive Top 10 Tips to keep this plan within your budget and save on time.
1. Don’t Skimp on Supplements
This may sound like a strange way to save money, but hear me out. Inexpensive supplements that seem to “fit the bill” for this plan are not always all they’re cracked up to be, and not worth the investment in my opinion. Several retailers were investigated in 2015, and the worst was found to have only 4 percent of their products contain the DNA of the ingredients listed on the label (read more about this here). This is why I’m so careful about the manufacturers I recommend to you, and I believe their quality is worth the investment. If you follow the tips I’m giving you, I assure you it will free up some room in your budget to invest in a few high quality supplements to enhance your success on this plan.
My must-haves for this plan include Weight Loss Formula, Bile Builder, and CLA-1000, all from UNI KEY Health.
2. Menu Plan
Ever heard the phrase “failing to plan is planning to fail?” It’s especially true when it comes to your diet. It’s important to plan out your meals and snacks, and make your weekly grocery list from that plan. Plan at least a week at a time to really make your budget work for you. By sticking to your list and buying only what you need, you’ll avoid the added expense of buying foods you won’t use that eventually spoil in your refrigerator.
Even though I’ve included a sample menu plan for the three weeks of the Radical Reboot, you are welcome to create your own if it doesn’t suit your tastes or your budget. Make sure you keep track of which recipes you and your family enjoy, so you have a list to pull ideas from later on when Radical Metabolism becomes a lifestyle for you.
3. KISS (Keep It Simple, Sister)
If you’re like me, when a plan like this comes your way, you flip right to the lists of allowed foods to see what you’re going to be eating. Radical Metabolism has a wide variety of foods, from every day vegetables that are probably already in your refrigerator, to decadent treats you haven’t even thought to buy for yourself. When you’re on a budget or have limited time, it’s important to keep your ingredients list short and simple.
The three foods I’ve seen questions about in my Radical Metabolism Facebook group, are watercress, daikon radish, and celeriac (celery root). If you have trouble sourcing any ingredients in the plan, substitutions can always be made, just choose from the list in the book and be sure you aren’t using a more starchy carb or vegetable. For watercress, substitute arugula or rocket, or another bitter green. For daikon radish, substitute red or icicle radishes, or simply omit the radish altogether. My favorite substitute for celeriac is cauliflower, which is widely available and easy to find on sale.
When looking at the healthy fats, choose only a couple of budget friendly options to start with. My recommendations for the best bang for your buck are hempseed oil, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, bone broth, and ghee. Look at your menu plan and see which of these fabulous fats fit with what you plan to cook.
Radical proteins are another investment to consider. At first glance, they may all seem out of reach, but I assure you, this is not the case. Choose the most versatile proteins that can provide more than one meal. My choices would be grass-fed soup bones, grass-fed hamburger and whole pastured chickens.
When looking at fruits and vegetables, except for the juices, frozen alternatives can be considered for both cost savings and convenience. It’s such a treat to put frozen pineapple in the blender for a sorbet-like dessert to get your serving of fruit in for the day. Or cover frozen berries in fresh cream and sprinkle with a little Flora-Key probiotic for a sweet, almost ice cream-like treat. Also look at which vegetables will give you more than one day’s worth of servings. Cooking one butternut squash and freezing into the ½ cup portions you need will yield at least a week’s worth of starchy carbs you can use in many recipes.
4. Buy in Bulk
Even if it’s only food for one person, you can still take advantage of bulk bargains. For instance, if your favorite grocery store has organic blueberries on sale, they will give you a discount if you buy by the case, and you can take them home, wash them, and freeze what you know you can’t eat within the time they’re fresh. The same goes for cases of pastured chicken breasts, grass-fed hamburger, and even nuts and seeds.
5. Don’t Limit Yourself to the Grocery Store
There are nationwide coops, local buying clubs, farmers markets, and you can even go direct and get to know your local farmer to get deep discounts on excellent quality meats and produce. Timing is everything when it comes to farmers markets and local farmers. Hitting the market at the end of the day often means deep discounts so the farmer doesn’t have to take their produce home. Farmers offer CSA memberships or if you go directly to the farm, they may have cuts of meat that don’t sell well you can get for a steal, or you can exchange work on the farm for your monthly share of produce.
Azure Standard is an organic coop that has monthly drop sites around the country. You simply place your order online, choose your pickup site, show up at the appointed time, load your food, and go. Apples keep a long time when refrigerated properly and they often sell organic by the case for less than $1 per pound. Bountiful Baskets is a bi-weekly produce delivery with organic options, and there are many others that are similar. Local buying clubs take advantage of deep discounts on foods and non-irradiated spices offered by companies like Frontier Coop.
If you stick with the grocery store, it pays to shop around. Stores like Sprouts and Aldi are popping up all over the country and sell grass-fed beef, pastured poultry, and organic produce for much less than conventional grocery stores. And don’t forget Costco. Their frozen organic vegetables and fruits are some of the best deals I’ve found.
6. Make It Yourself
Whenever possible, cook from scratch and make it yourself. Whole, natural foods prepared from scratch, full of love, are the healthiest thing you can do for yourself and your family. It not only saves money, but tastes so much better than storebought alternatives. It doesn’t have to be time-consuming if you plan ahead.
Ghee is simply clarified butter, which can be made from regular butter in your oven. Buying dried beans in bulk and cooking in an Instant Pot breaks down lectins and is healthier and more budget-friendly than canned alternatives.
Save the peels from your vegetables in a bag in the freezer and add to the bones from your chicken and make your own bone broth. Freeze in individual serving sizes to save time later when life is too hectic for much meal prep. Throw frozen vegetables, pre-cooked meat and frozen bone broth into a pot and heat, add Radical spices, and you have a quick and flavorful soup that cooks itself while you are busy doing other things.
7. Meal Prep Ahead of Time
On the weekend (or whenever your days off happen to be), prep and cook foods for the week. Make Radical Lemon Cubes, and wash and cut the fresh vegetables you need for the snacks and recipes you’ll be using during the week. Store in labeled containers in the refrigerator in the portions needed for each recipe you’re using that week. Cut vegetables like jicama, carrots and celery make great crunchy snacks and store well in water in a wide mouth, quart size glass canning jar while saving space in the refrigerator.
8. Batch Cook to Save Time and Money
For a while, crockpot meals were all the rage. You do the meal prep all at once, freeze the meals in gallon-sized bags, then thaw one the night before, throw in the crockpot in the morning, and have dinner when you get home. While this is a great option for soups and stews, some vegetables don’t freeze well and these meals often share the same texture, which can feel repetitive after a while. Batch cooking is another time-saving alternative that gives you a wide variety of options.
When you buy pastured chicken, it’s usually whole, which is good for our purposes. Depending on how many mouths you have to feed, roast one or two (or even three!) whole chickens in the oven, then pick the meat off the bones and put in individual serving sized containers. Use the bones to make bone broth for many of the Radical Metabolism main course recipes. One chicken can be used for 3 meals or more, even in a large family.
Brown several pounds of grass-fed hamburger at once and freeze in the portions you need to make taco salads and a variety of other recipes. Reheating the meat in a little water with dried spices on the stove will actually infuse the flavors you’re looking for better than it would if you were adding them to raw meat.
9. Grow It Yourself
I know this sounds daunting, but it’s much easier than you think. Microgreens, especially from sunflower seeds, are some of the most expensive greens served in fine dining establishments. You can grow them on a tray in a sunny window and harvest in less than a month for just a few dollars.
If you are feeling more adventurous, you can grow most vegetables and herbs in a pot or even in a bag of soil, or try your hand at gardening. A packet of seeds is less expensive than even one head of organically grown lettuce, and yields so much more, in a surprisingly short amount of time. There are a variety of gardening techniques that are simple and time saving, and your county extension office has free information available and even a master gardener who will consult with you for free to get you started or help you problem solve.
There are also a lot of “weeds” that are edible and pack a big nutritional punch. Dandelions are a great example of this; the greens can be used in salads while the root can be roasted for a delicious tea. Make sure they haven’t been sprayed with herbicides or insecticides before harvesting. It takes time to learn friend from foe, but learning to “eat your weeds” can be.
10. Enlist the Help of Friends
There’s a new type of gathering emerging, and it’s pretty exciting – meal prep parties. At these gatherings, participants either pay a fee to the organizer, or it’s done potluck-style, where each member brings an ingredient or part of the list of ingredients, and everyone gets together and assembles the same meals for the week. If you have friends you want to introduce to Radical Metabolism, this is a great way to do it! You can start with a 4-Day Cleanse party, split the list of ingredients between friends and do all the juicing and make the soup together, then share your weight loss successes at the end.
For most of you, this isn’t your first “diet rodeo.” You’ve searched for years and tried a variety of plans, only to end the day still feeling fat and fatigued, struggling with an “over forty” sluggish metabolism. On top of that, it seems like your thyroid problem is progressively getting worse, not better. If this is you, then get ready for Radical Metabolism to breathe new life into that tired thyroid and recharge your stalled metabolism!

Some Things We Might Buy in 2017: A Goofball’s Guide to the Outdoor Retailer Trade Show
Twice a year, the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City turns into a winter (or summer) wonderland of rugged shoes, packs, outerwear, and other outdoor gear. This is the Outdoor Retailer trade show, the world’s biggest outdoor retail show, where all the major American gear brands (and hundreds of newcomers and up-and-comers) gather to show off their wares for the near future. We sent the Wirecutter outdoors team to cover the 2017 Winter Market. We’ll be reviewing tons of the new items over the coming months, but to start, here are a few that we’re lusting after for real-world, personal use.
Get next week's picks this week
Subscribe to our newsletter and be the first to know about our latest research.
The OR show is the CES of the outdoors. Companies debut groundbreaking technologies, explain their take on solutions to gear problems everyone has, and demonstrate the lighter/faster/comfier/cheaper/eco-friendlier upgrades to their old models. Startups launch their really great ideas. Industry leaders reflect on trends—such as Made in the USA products—and on the future of outdoor sports and recreation. It’s what counts for long-term market growth planning in an industry built on having fun. In the past, companies tackled themes like how to get more kids outside and how to increase diversity outdoors. This year’s show turned political when two influential industry executives called for the show, which generates an estimated $45 million in annual direct spending, to move to a state where the local politicians’ views on public lands and recreational access align better with those of many companies in the industry. The executives’ argument is that public lands are essential to providing their customers a place to use their products.
The items we feature here are as diverse as what was at the show (and as diverse as our interests), including backyard fun and games, lifestyle apparel and activewear, techy toys you can take outdoors, performance and camp food and beverage, and the technical sports gear you might expect. A lot of the stuff at the OR show could be passed over for being gimmicky, impractical, or barely changed from year to year. The following are the items we’d actually make a place for on our next trip, in a crowded gear closet, or at camp or in a cabin.
A new take on snowshoes that could really work
Crescent Moon Eva All-Foam Snowshoes, $160, expected release in fall 2017
Photo: Crescent Moon
It’s not often that a major piece of gear undergoes such an extreme makeover that it could change the industry and the sport. The Crescent Moon Eva All-Foam Snowshoes could do just that. Unlike traditional designs, which consist of myriad straps, buckles, and hinges, this model features a much more user-friendly unibody design that looks and feels more like a shoe than an intimidating piece of technical snow equipment. Putting on the snowshoe is simple: A Velcro hook-and-loop adjustable binding system makes it more like getting into a pair of kids’ sneakers. This approachable design should make people who have never been snowshoeing want to try it out.
The Eva All-Foam Snowshoes are made of two layers of dual-density EVA foam—the same type that you’ll find on most lightweight running shoes. Since foam is lighter than most metals, and the design uses it for everything but the binding, the Eva pair is designed for better front-to-back weight distribution than competing models. Foam also has two unexpected advantages over metal in snowshoes: It insulates your feet from the cold and spares your ears the ubiquitous snowshoe squeak. A third component, a traction plate made of a nylon-like material, bites into icy slopes with lugs reminiscent of snow tires. Furthermore, the Eva’s lack of moving parts should also make it more durable in the long run, since most snowshoes fail when their hinges, straps, or joints snap (hopefully not bringing your ankle along with them).
What struck me the most about the Eva All-Foam Snowshoes were the emotions that winter enthusiasts expressed about them—namely, rabid obsession. Just in the three days of the OR show, the Eva pair won multiple awards, including Outside Magazine’s Gear of the Show, Digital Trends’s Best of Show, Backpack Gear Test’s Creative Award, Gear Junkie’s Gear of the Show, and The Manual’s Gear of the Show. We have to test the snowshoes when they are released in fall 2017 to make sure the foam doesn’t sacrifice durability for lightness, but if the Eva All-Foams offer any improvement over what is currently out there, bring on the industry revolution.

For passing the time at the campsite or your living room
Outside Inside games for camp and cabin, available now, $10 and up
Outside Inside game designer Dave Smrtka is not demonstrating an exercise machine. This is a go-anywhere ping pong setup. Photo: Dan Koeppel
In an industry where nearly everyone has a great job—or at least one that allows you to get out and play, a lot—Dave Smrtka’s gig is as good as we’ve seen: He designs all of the items for GSI’s Outside Inside games line. (GSI is one of the biggest outdoor companies you’ve never heard of; it makes tons of basecamp essentials, like tableware and cooking gear.) Smrtka, who began his career making eclectic cribbage sets, including one shaped like a rainbow trout, describes what he does simply: “I design outdoor versions of indoor games, and indoor versions of outdoor games.” So if you’ve ever dreamed of playing horseshoes in your living room, Smrtka’s got a won’t-shatter-your-flatscreen foam version. Ping pong under the trees? Outside Inside’s set includes paddles and an expandable net that clamps to a picnic table. There’s some very cool innovation behind all these games, too: The company’s new-for-2017 Backpacker Bocce set, for example, uses balls made of a decelerating rubber, so they won’t roll too far away when you’re in the heat of competition. And if those games don’t appeal, Smrtka’s line includes more than 30 additional choices.

The backyard and forest double-decker instant treehouse
Tentsile T-Mini Double Hammock and Flite+ Tree Tent, available now, $150 to $350
outdoor retailer tradeshow three-point treehouses outdoor retailer tradeshow outdoor retailer tradeshow t-mini double hammock
Basically, this design offers a hybrid of a tent and a hammock in a triangle shape, securing at three points (yeah, you pretty much need a trio of trees—a possible drawback) so that it doesn’t swing back and forth the way a traditional hammock might. Though Tentsile has been around for about five years, its products have been fairly pricey, some over $1,000. In 2017, you can get in on the fun for a lot less money: The T-Mini Double Hammock is $150, and the covered Flite+ Tree Tent is $350. That gives you the sweet setup—a double-decker arrangement—for under $500.

The thinking person’s coffee creamer?
Know Brainer Thinker’s Instant coffee and creamer, available April 2017, $2 for 1 ounce
Coffee that helps you think? How did they think of this product before it existed? Photo: Know Brainer
Endurance athletes have been some of the loudest lovers of instant coffee—and of ketogenic diets. Available in 2017, Know Brainer Thinker’s Instant marries those two trends in one product. Thinker’s Instant is the premeasured and preblended single-serving sibling of the much-written-about Bulletproof Coffee. Each 1-ounce packet contains concentrated coffee, shelf-stable medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) oil from coconuts, and grass-fed ghee (clarified butter). Drinkers simply massage the packet, dump it into 8 ounces of hot water, and stir. On-the-go outdoor adventurers, travelers, and commuters will have the benefit of super morning joe without extra tools or a messy cleanup.
Launched in 2016, Know Brainer claims its ketogenic-friendly creamer alternative fuels brain and body without leaving cravings. So far, no hard data backs up the benefits of adding Know Brainer creamer to java. The company’s new product, Thinker’s Instant, won’t require mixing, though, as it blends the Know Brainer “creamer” and the coffee in the same packet. Thinker’s Instant will be available in original and French vanilla flavors, both with MCT and organic grass-fed butter. For those allergic to casein or lactose, a mocha flavor will be available in a casein- and lactose-free version.
How excited you might be about Know Brainer or its upcoming Thinker’s Instant depends on your enthusiasm for the ketogenic diet and Bulletproof Coffee in general—and there’s plenty of reason to doubt its proponents’ lofty claims. But regardless of the validity of the science behind the ketogenic diet—or whether this is just a fad—what’s important is that Know Brainer is delicious. It won the Anaheim Coffee Festival’s 2016 People’s Choice Award. And at $2 per packet, you can afford to try it for yourself.

A fashionable, warm, technically sound women’s coat
Cotopaxi Women’s Kusa Parka, available now, $200 (past season colors on sale for $100)
Insulation is a big deal in the outdoor world right now. As brands aim for sustainability and transparency in their supply chains, they’re throwing everything at the wall to see what will stick: At the OR show, we saw bison fill, llama fill, alpaca fill, traditional down, DWR-treated down, and duck feathers—and that list doesn’t even include the synthetic fibers that are also gaining traction. Basically, however, it all keeps you warm, and it all has varying degrees of sustainability.
But among the sea of similar-performing options, the Cotopaxi Women’s Kusa Parka stood out to us not only for its llama-fur-blend insulation but also for being one of the few insulation pieces that look like they’re styled for the real world. Big, puffy coats are an outerwear staple these days, but you can’t layer them under anything. This piece is thin, tailored, and without a hood, so I can use it to turn my existing coats into a layering system, exactly the way I would if I were going hiking. That means any spring coat I have can now be a winter coat, and any rain jacket I own can now have a liner. While my 850-fill down technical jacket has performance-oriented features that make it indispensable on a snowy mountain—such as a big hood and articulated arms—those same features make it much too bulky to fit under street wear.
The color palette is also worth mentioning. When it comes to color, little-known boutique brand Cotopaxi is currently the best player in the game, and that’s a huge deal. Year after year, major brands attempt to “figure out” what color to make clothing for people who find that the traditional male aesthetic doesn’t work. Usually they come up with purple. Although purple is good, that’s still a tiny box. For anyone who struggles with projecting their identity in a way that isn’t so narrowly stereotyped, this is a company to check out.

My Whole30 Experience & Tips!
Welcome guys!
I wrote this out for a friend of mine and thought that if I put that much work into writing this out, I might as well share it out!
So glad you’re doing this! It really wasn’t that hard and totally doable mostly with some support :)
I did the entire program in October and started my second one this month, so I’m gonna write out some tips that I picked up along the way.
The Program: NUMBER 1 RULE: read the ingredient list EVERY TIME! The less ingredients the better, but most of the time, you WILL find sugar, dextrose, cane, syrup, glucose, lactose, maltose, and so on. If you see that, put it down! You can’t have it. This article has a good breakdown of how labels hide sugar, and this one of 61 different names for sugars.
RULE 2: No alcohol at all which includes a lot of sauces that add “wine” so watch out for those. RULE 3: No grains. Wheat, rye, barley, oats, corn, rice, millet, bulgur, sorghum, amaranth, buckwheat, sprouted grains, quinoa, and so one. These are often added in labels too; be careful. RULE 4: No legumes. No beans, peas, chickpeas, lentils, and peanuts (watch out for peanut oil being added). This also covers soy! No soy sauce or anything with soy. RULE 5: No dairy. Sorry… no cheese! RULE 6: No MSG, sulfites, carrageenan. You probably won’t encounter these at this point… I haven’t run into these once. RULE 7: Don’t recreate foods that you can’t have like cookies or ice cream or fries and such. Take this with a grain of salt and do what makes you happy. RULE 8: Don’t step on the scale. They don’t want you to focus on your numbers while you’re doing this. You’re getting healthy!
SHOPPING: The more prepared the better! Here is the official whole30 shopping list. The blue items are the best to get. The red are those to avoid. Here is a more extensive one with pantry items too. I’ll highlight items that are necessary for most dishes/sauces in the text below.
I always have these ingredients in my house just in case so that I’m always ready. Also if you have Trader Joes, I would buy everything off this list… It’s a life saver! Here is one for Costco too if you have one.
Pantry: Light olive oil (used for mayo), extra virgin olive oil, ghee (clarified butter. You can make your own with butter and a cheese cloth but I haven’t tried it yet), coconut oil, coconut milk canned, SPICES (you might have most of these but these are all the ones i have and use frequently: basil, bay leaves, black pepper, cayenne, chili powder, cilantro, cinnamon, cumin, curry powder, dill, garlic powder, ginger, mustard powder, nutmeg, onion powder, oregano, paprika, parsley, red pepper flakes, rosemary, salt, thyme), almond flour, coconut flour, apple cider vinegar, balsamic vinegar, chicken & veggie broth (good luck! I always only end up only finding ONE brand of either that doesn’t add any type of sugar and I grab a bunch), coconut aminos (this is used instead of soy sauce & I couldn’t find it at my Trader Joes so I got it on Amazon), mustard, red wine vinegar, rice vinegar, canned tomatoes (again, good luck finding a brand that doesn’t add sugar and grab a bunch!). I know it’s a ton, but there’s nothing worse than finding a good recipe and realizing that you don’t have the ingredients at home to make it. This will help and make it more enjoyable!
Fridge: Always keep a can of coconut milk in the fridge. The top portion of it becomes what they call “coconut cream” and is used for every recipe and dressings. Always keep eggs. You will eat a LOT of eggs. Make your homemade mayo right away, you will use it for everything.
Protein: I stocked up at Trader Joes again but I always have eggs, chicken, ground turkey, chicken sausages, shrimp, scallops, and deli meat (make sure to find brand that does not add sugar) in my fridge/freezer. (I don’t eat pork or red meat, but steak, beef, and bacon are probably good too).
DRINKS: I always have sparkling water around and flavored one too like any of the La Croix (no sugar added) and coffee and teas. You can add coconut milk, almond milk, cinnamon, to your coffee or just have it black! BONUS: Starbucks carries coconut milk and just started carrying almond milk and can make it into a cappuccino.. just had one, DELISH!
NUTS: I might have gone a little crazy on my first go at this, but my sugar cravings were through the roof and nuts were the only thing that kept me sane. I particularly always had cashews, almonds, and macadamia nuts around, mostly with my work schedule and not being able to eat dinner every time and getting home so late, I had a few of those. Just be careful because I think that I ate a little too much of them and found myself having a hard time going to the bathroom.
SNACKS: Almond butter! Been dipping apples in it… so good! I try to not go crazy with it though because it’s a treat and pretty fatty. Bars: they say to use them very cautiously. If you have time to cook, do that first! If you’re like me and are always on the go or work 12 hour shifts, these bars have helped me not go off the program or die of hunger. I particularly like the RX Chocolate sea salt (you can’t have the peanut butter or maple one) and have not enjoyed the Larabars, but my friend is the opposite. Pick up a couple of flavors at Trader Joes and see which ones you like. Check the sites I sent you to make sure that they are compliant.
FRUITS: All of the fruits are allowed! I have Trader Joe’s frozen fruits in my freezer at all times as well as apples, oranges, strawberries and bananas on my counter. Stay away from dried fruits, we can’t have it.
VEGGIES: Obviously, it’s whatever you like. All veggies are welcomed except for the obvious corn, peas, and lima beans. Have fun with it and get a spiralizer, or markets sell squash and zucchini strings, and spaghetti squash is also delicious. Cauliflower is also a must have. You’ll see a ton of recipes that uses it to make pizzas, and tacos, and pasta, and rice! Get the cauliflower rice from Trader Joes: it’s amazing. You can also have regular white potatoes. Use sparingly and try to use sweet potatoes instead or other veggies if you can, mostly if you’re not doing a lot of cardio, but they ARE allowed so if you want them, make them!
DRESSINGS: You can make your own balsamic vinaigrette with just olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, pepper, and mustard. There are also a lot of easy to make ones online and here. My favorites that I’ve made so far are ranch, hollandaise, caesar, and creamy dill. If I am out to eat, I just ask for olive oil & vinegar, sometimes lemon, and add salt & pepper and it’s perfect. My friend bought the whole30 pack from Amazon of Tessemae’s, which is sponsored and allowed. She’s only tried the ketchup so far, but said that it was good. I’ll update you after I hear back from her if you want.
And that’s it! All of the recipes from the main book are online, as well as a TON of others. The great thing about this program is that it’s been around for years, so people have had time to post all of their favorites and what works and what doesn’t. Pinterest and google are amazing. Here are a couple of my favorites: Chili, salmon and dill sauce, cauliflower fried rice, spaghetti squash & meat sauce, pesto sauce with everything.
Also if you’re unsure of something, whether or not you can eat it, or why your body is reacting a certain way, google it! Like I said, people have been doing this for a while, so there’s a forum for every single question that you could possibly have. Check the date because some things are outdated, but it’s a good base to go off on.
If you’re doing this as a way of life, AWESOME! If you’re doing the strict 30 day routine: no cheating (any cheating and you start back at day 1… not worth it), and give yourself 10 days for the reintroduction period. What’s the point of doing this for 30 days if then you don’t give yourself a few extra days to see what your body is sensitive to? Exactly.
Hopefully this will help you on your journey! Feel free to post recipes and send questions!

Average Rating: 3.2 #8: Market Pantry Our judges' very first comment was "Wow!"  That was then immediately followed closely by, "That is a sugar bomb"  This shovel disappointed lots of our judges and also received exceptional ratings for the flavor and feel. Taste: It was rich, milk chocolate taste.  The judges described there is a small caramel note, too.  For several, this flavor proved to be a fantastic thing, but the others were less enthusiastic.
