i hear u, i do, about wanting martin to have been forced into going with annabelle bcos you want him not to have made an impulsive bad decision that would upset & endanger jon (and himself) like that

but first of all, mind control is still the absolute most boring option

and second of all, [gestures to like, all of season 4]

#i keep seeing this post abt how it makes no sense for him to have gone with her willingly....#but unfortunately it IS in character #martin's flawed! he's petty and impulsive and has a concerning lack of self-preservation!#that's WHY i like him!!#let him make bad decisions! and then let him realize his mistakes and try to make up for it! again!!#particularly when we know he still feels guilt that his inaction in letting elias live caused all this?#going willingly is perhaps not the most rational response but it IS one that someone in an emotional state like that might have #maybe he thinks he can fix things. maybe he just doesn't want to sit quietly and wait anymore.#(maybe the manipulations annabelle set up before are not enough to make him think jon doesn't need him #but ARE enough for him to want to do anything in his power to help jon; even when that power is relatively little)#also from an annabelle characterization standpoint and from a web power standpoint mind control IS the boring option #if annabelle/the web IS the big bad then reducing their Very Scary Manipulation down to mind control is. so boring. so so so boring.#i WILL accept a middle ground of her having some threat or w/e to force martin's hand #but that's also more boring than subtle manipulation #jonny if u have defamed spiders as clever cunning manipulators all this time and then make this manipulation Super Fucking Boring #i will be. so angry.#spiders are so fucking weird & cool pls i am begging u
