one :ย  picture a little girl with bright blue eyes, pigtails bouncing with every step she takes as a grin makes its way upon her face . she seems happy ---- and in the moment she truly is, despite the fact that the people she needs the most, her parents, are a few thousand miles away and arenโ€™t here to see olympia say her first words or take her first step. she is too young to understand --- honestly, too young to even think about the reasons why they left her.
two :ย  she is a little bit older now, a full-on eleven years old --- taller, thinner and, most importantly, rowdier. she has quite a few friends, although they all seem to be having picnics with their barbie dolls and sleepovers dedicated to watching princess movies whereas olympia wants to run around and jump all over the place. the girls just donโ€™t seem to match her energy, the boys arenโ€™t exactly welcoming towards her, having this stupid,ย โ€œew, but youโ€™re a girl!โ€ mindset. she just wants to find something for herself, something that will keep her interested for longer than three hours ---- that something turned out to be diving.
three :ย ย itโ€™s a few years later, and now sheโ€™s standing at the 10m platform. itโ€™s her last dive, and she needs to get it exactly right to win the gold medal. olympia would honestly be lying if she said her legs werenโ€™t shaking because of how nervous she was --- but thereโ€™s a camera right in front of her face, therefore she has to keep it together.ย she turns around, takes one last breath, and then sheโ€™s up in the air. fifteen seconds later sheโ€™s fully submerged into water ----- and fifteen minutes later she has tears coming out of her eyes. she did it. sheโ€™s the world champion now.
four : itโ€™s exactly a year later, and a lot has changed. olympia finds herself in the sunny city of rio de janeiro where sheโ€™s come to compete in her first olympic games --- which is exactly what sheโ€™s always been meant to do, judging by the name her parents gave her. except this time sheโ€™s nervous for an entirely different reason --- sheโ€™s now a successful athlete, this seasonโ€™s leader and the one to watch out for. sheโ€™s the reigning world champion, for godโ€™s sake, so she has to prove every single person out there she didnโ€™t win on an accident. a lot of things seem to be going wrong; from oly flubbing her first dive to her coach coming up to her before her final one to say that her parents have showed up at the arena. eventually she finds herself in the same exact position as she did back in Russia ---- her palms are sweating, her legs are shaking, but thereโ€™s no turning back. the only way is down, so she has to dive one way or another. a jump, two somersaults, a twist ----- sheโ€™s back in the pool, and as she immediately drowns in the roar coming from the audience, tears start coming out of her eyes. she did it again. sheโ€™s lived up to her name.
five :ย  ever since she got back home, her life has completely changed. interview after interview, a campaign after a photoshoot, an event after the other ---- all of that mixed in with her training routine has it ups and downs. her schedule keeps her busy yet thereโ€™s something missing. sheโ€™s looking everywhere in the hopes of finding that missing piece, and at some point she feels like sheโ€™s found it in the face of a stranger who ends up in her bed that night. it brings her a sense of serenity, that lasts a few weeks ---- but olympia knows itโ€™s all too good to be true, and itโ€™s proven to be that way as she stumbles upon a certain page on a random night. it doesnโ€™t seem real at first, but when she spots a tattoo on the girlโ€™s ribcage, a realization hits her ---- sheโ€™s plastered all over porn sites, and that particular video featuring her has generated a few million views in a span of two months. she doesnโ€™t remember the night at first due to her drunken state, but she recognizes her bedroom, particularly a personalized louis vuitton gym bag sitting in the corner. details like that help her piece the night together, and from that point on thereโ€™s nothing but fear of it all coming out and ruining her career.
๐ข๐ข.ย  ๐๐„๐‘๐’๐Ž๐๐€
basically ! this intro is all over the place so here are some bullet points to get u up to speed !
oly was born in chicago but grew up and spent most of her time in toronto with her grandmother, since her parents were setting up their business overseas. they were coming by to visit her maybe once or twice a year, so she isnโ€™t as close with them.
she is a competitive diver (a quite decorated one bc .... why wouldnโ€™t she be ๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿฅบ)ย  representing canada bc of her upbringing despite the fact that she now lives in new york (she moved here in 2017, after the rio olympics)
astrology wise, she is a gemini sun cancer rising .... so sorry to all of u for this
her placements mean that she is quite creative, capricious and may appear manic sometimes --- but really she is just downright STUPID bc she is always trying to get her ass into trouble. like, you canโ€™t even imagine how many times her coach had to drag her out of the mess she got herself into ...ย
she is very much about having sympathy for others and helping them and whatnot, but unbeknownst to her, these tendencies can be explained by theย โ€œkeep your friends close and your enemies closerโ€ mindset. she has to keep her act straight, so getting onto someoneโ€™s bad side isnโ€™t in the cards for her --- god knows what kind of shit she may end up in now that sheโ€™s a part of ... this world of glamour and fame, u kno?
olympia also really loves to talk, preach, argue --- just do whatever to be heard
in her free time (the time when she doesnโ€™t feel like wreaking havoc tbh) she usually cooks deserts (vegan banana pudding? blackberry sorbet? key lime cheesecake? u want it, u got it!), reads books (painted veil by somerset is her ultimate FAV) and ... drives around town whilst listening to some cheesy music ๐Ÿฅบย
other than that her usual routine consists of training, clubbing and messing shit up due to the chaotic stupid personality !
๐ข๐ข๐ข.ย  ๐‚๐Ž๐๐๐„๐‚๐“๐ˆ๐Ž๐๐’
i promise this intro wonโ€™t be that long ... after this ! ๐Ÿค ๐Ÿค ๐Ÿค these are just the few ideas i can get off the top of my head so ... thereโ€™s always room for brainstorming ! :-)
๐‚๐Ž๐Œ๐…๐Ž๐‘๐“ ๐‚๐‘๐Ž๐–๐ƒ / close friends --- everybody needs some sort of a support system in their life, and oly is no exception to this rule. sheโ€™s never really had a big family, therefore sheโ€™s always surrounded herself with people in the hopes of filling the empty space in her heart. and honestly, if it wasnโ€™t for these people, she wouldโ€™ve quit diving right after winning the olympics, moved to the suburbs of toronto and just lived a quiet life --- but the pride for her friends just gives her enough motivation to move further and become better.
๐๐€๐‘๐“๐๐„๐‘๐’ ๐ˆ๐ ๐‚๐‘๐ˆ๐Œ๐„ / best friend --- we all have that someone whoโ€™s impossibly close to us; who we cannot imagine our lives without. the bond is so crucial to them both parties that it feels as if thereโ€™s never been a moment without each other. the general public and tabloids, though, feel as if thereโ€™s more going on and will not stop nagging them about the details.
๐ƒ๐„๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ๐‘๐‹๐˜ ๐ƒ๐„๐๐€๐‘๐“๐„๐ƒ / friends drifted apart / exesย --- as weird as it is, oly is very much a yolo person. in addition to that, she has a ton of love and devotion for every single person sheโ€™s ever had in her life no matter what happened between them or what caused them to drift apart. though, her ever-changing nature is known to drive people away which, tbh, happens to be a blessing and a curse -- it helps oly sort ofย โ€œfilterโ€ through her circle of friends, but then again, if someone enters her life, they leave and undeniable impact on it. therefore, she misses whoever left her life more than they could ever imagine.
๐„๐•๐„๐‘๐˜๐๐Ž๐ƒ๐˜ ๐‹๐Ž๐•๐„๐’ ๐˜๐Ž๐” / rival (?) --- olympia isnโ€™t perfect in any way, shape or form. she knows that, but most importantly, the public knows that and will not stop critiquing every little thing that she does. this person, though, is the exact opposite - the public LOVES them to the point where even olympiaโ€™s parents would probably say things likeย โ€œugh, i wish you could be more like that!โ€. this makes the relationship between the two quite ... strained. because as much as olympia may love them as a person, thereโ€™s always this lingering sense of jealousy that just enables her petty side.
๐ข๐ฏ. ๐Ž๐Ž๐‚
ok so ! if youโ€™ve reached this part of my intro ... i cannot thank u enough bc this ?? this is long as HECK but i wanted to actually try and describe the kind of muse i envision in my head. i love u all a latte & if u feel like plotting w/ my dumb kid, leave a like on this post or feel free to mssg me on discord under futurenostalgias#1692 ๐Ÿค sidenote tho: iโ€™ll probably get to the mssgs in a few hours seeing as i have a few assignments to complete and iโ€™m sorta braindead ... love u , cannot wait to write w/ u ! xoxo ur friendly neighborhood trash charย ย

Wellness Burnout [Has Wellness Gone Too Far?]
New Post has been published on http://healingawerness.com/news/wellness-burnout-has-wellness-gone-too-far/
Wellness Burnout [Has Wellness Gone Too Far?]
I started The Healthy Maven when I was 23 years old. My life, my priorities and my stance on wellness has changed A LOT in the last 7 years. And it goes without saying that the world around us has changed considerably in that time as well. When I started THM health was a pretty narrow definition: primarily food and exercise. Mental health was considered an entirely different and unrelated concept and if I mentioned the word โ€œadaptogensโ€ you probably would have thought I made the word up. Light therapy, medicinal mushroom coffee and CBD were not conventional conversation topics and spirituality existed in an entirely separate realm from health. The wellness โ€œindustryโ€ as we know it did not exist.
The idea of wellness is not a new concept but its prevalence certainly is. People seem to actually care about their health before they get sick and we have a much broader view of what makes someone healthy. This is by and far the most important piece that has come out of the wellness industry: we now take a much more comprehensive approach to health with physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health all intersecting.
But it hasnโ€™t all been good. Health is more commodified than ever before. Everyone and their mom has a new product that will be the key to eternal wellness. It can be overwhelming, overstimulating and quite honestly, infuriating.
Wellness culture and the wellness industry has in many ways replaced the diet industry. It is founded on the idea that we are inherently โ€œnot well enoughโ€. Itโ€™s easy to see why ortherexia (an obsession with health and โ€œcleanโ€everything) is on the rise. The wellness space has perpetuated the idea that nothing is safe out there. And to be fair, some of this is true. As consumers, weโ€™ve been misled about a lot of things. Our beauty and skincare products have ingredients we know to be harmful for us, it turns out antibacterial everything is more harmful than helpful and *shocker* fat isnโ€™t bad for us. Itโ€™s easy to see why thereโ€™s so much distrust of conventional brands. That being said, the wellness industry has gone too far. To be well does not mean to be perfect. Thatโ€™s impossible yet our constant striving to be more, to feel more, to live a little longer is in many ways doing the exact opposite.
I recognize my own contribution to this idea. For many years I was striving too. Iโ€™m also a naturally curious person who likes learning about and trying out new things. But being on this side of the coin has shown me that a lot of this stuff needs to be taken in with a grain of salt. I believe in choosing organic produce when possible (mostly for environmental reasons but stillโ€ฆ), choosing cleaner beauty and non-toxic products when possible but I am not dogmatic or afraid of things that donโ€™t meet these standards. I use conventional soap if thatโ€™s whatโ€™s available, eat carbs with just about every meal and you better bet Iโ€™ve eaten McDonaldโ€™s recently (guys! Those chicken nuggets!). I make choices that are in line with my values and fit my lifestyle โ€“ not the other way around.
So as we kickstart 2020 and a brand new decade, I want you to really assess your approach to wellness and if youโ€™ve become a victim of this idea that you are โ€œnot well enoughโ€. If you want to make this the best year yet, itโ€™s time to turn inwards and ask yourself what you really need. Letโ€™s jump inโ€ฆ
5 Questions to Evaluate Your Wellness Routine
1. Is there a wellness guru youโ€™re basing your decisions off of? Broad question but does Sally the Spin Instructor spin 5x/week and eat vegan so you do the same? Does Carol the CrossFitter eat paleo and lift heavy weights 3x/week so you do that too? Or are you listening to your body and taking note of how it feels after those workouts or by eating a certain way. Your body is YOURS. Itโ€™s unique. What works for someone else might not be the answer for you.
2. How many supplements are you taking? Are they prescribed by a medical professional or again, modeled after your fav Instagrammer? If a medical professional told you to take specific supplements to balance something going on inย your body, please stick with it! If you are just taking a million supplements because thatโ€™s what your friend does, consider digging into what each does and if itโ€™s really necessary for your body. Not all supplements are bad and most are safe but if youโ€™re taking 10+ vitamins daily you might want to figure out whyโ€ฆ
3. What are you putting in your smoothie?[Also do you HAVE to have a smoothie?] Did you know a smoothie can be healthy with just.real.foods?! Wild, right?! Who knew you didnโ€™t need ever magic potion and mushroom powder in the books to be healthyโ€ฆ Next time you make a smoothie or overnight oats, try NOT incorporating the โ€œextrasโ€. Not saying theyโ€™re bad, I just donโ€™t think theyโ€™re necessary to be healthy and certainly not worth draining your bank account. P.S. fruit isnโ€™t going to kill you. If youโ€™re not into fruit eat a bowl of soup for breakfast k?
4. Whoโ€™s body are you trying to achieve with your workout? Are you working out because you love your body and love doing your workout? Or are you doing yoga because Sally does yoga and has your dream body..? Pause and take a second to think about why you do the workout you do and if you actually enjoy it.
5. How much money do you spend on wellness? Getting personal! Did you know that wellness doesnโ€™t need to cost a penny? Donโ€™t get me wrong, I fully believe in spending money on my weekly therapy appointments and yoga classes which are imperative to my wellness but I also realize that I donโ€™t need to spend hundreds of dollars each month for the latest supplements, workout clothes and self-care practices. If your finances are stressing you out you are basically doing the opposite of what that adaptogenic, anti-inflammatory whatever is supposed to be doingโ€ฆ
* * * * *
Iโ€™m not here to say that all things wellness are bad. Iโ€™m genuinely a fan of learning more. Itโ€™s why I ran a podcast for 3 years and spoke with experts and mavens in various fields to discover what wellness means to them. I also want to be clear that there are many people struggling with true chronic health challenges that require more investment (financially and time-wise) than others. Itโ€™s been really beautiful to see how people have found support for these conditions.
My biggest takeaway from 7 years of blogging in the wellness space and 3 years of podcasting is this: Be kind to yourself and to the people in your life. Eat your veggies. Drink water. Get a good night sleep and move your body in whatever way feels good to you. Find something youโ€™re passionate about.
Most importantly: Have gratitude. Instead of focusing on everything you donโ€™t have, focus on what makes your life wonderful. We all have something to be grateful for and that truly is the key to health.

UrthBox Product Review: Healthy Snacks at Your Doorstep
We all have that person (or people) in our life that is beyond challenging to buy. Pursuing down a birthday celebration present for them may as well be a journey to discover the Holy Grail. A lot so, that it goes past the world of, 'Just what do you obtain the individual who has every little thing?'. It is with an aching heart, that I claim the roll of that person within my family.
So naturally, when my auntie asked me what I wanted for Xmas in 2013, I responded with my specification, 'I don't really need anything, but a Starbucks present card would be good.' Like any type of excellent university student and writer, coffee makes up about 80% of my bloodstream. She had not been pleased with that solution. After informing me I was uninteresting, she said she would certainly figure something out. Something I 'd never even heard of.
Cue: UrthBox, a site that mails you healthy and balanced snacks every month. When I would certainly gotten an email about my three month subscription, I figured it was either: A) an error the company had made, or B) a secret admirer (it was neither). My aunt had done well in her goal of getting me something one-of-a-kind, as well as I currently I had the ability to delight in trendy, brand-new, healthy and balanced treats, provided right to me. A totally win/win, right?
Urthbox has a very one-of-a-kind system. You selected exactly how much snackage you desire. UrthBox provides four dimensions of boxes, Mini (6+ items), Little (12+ products), Tool (17+ products), and Large (24+ products). Then, you selected the quantity of time you desire to receive your membership. The choices are 3 months, 6 months, and a year. So far, so good.
They then ask you to choose a group which your treats will fall under, Classic, Gluten Free, Vegan, and Diet. I was torn in between diet regimen and also traditional, since I had not been sure if one alternative consisted of more healthy and balanced foods than the various other. After Googling my heart out to see what each box would consist of, I only discovered one review of both of them. I picked Standard, it looked like it had generally more variety, and also the snacks were still healthy and balanced. My 3 month, Tiny sized, Classic box was prepared to go! I would certainly be obtaining the initial shipment in February.
This is the component that shook my cage a little. For the dimension and also regularity of my order, the total amount involved $60. Possibly it's simply me, but I seemed like that was a little too costly for simply 12 items that can be just granola bars for all I recognized. Full disclosure: my auntie acquired my subscription with a site that provides or else high valued items at a discount rate, so she did not pay the complete cost. Now I was even more determined and excited to see what would certainly come to my door come February.
When I opened it, this was what I found:
I have actually written a listing of all the items that were in my February box, along with their dimensions and also retail worth. Let's see exactly what these healthy foods are all about.
Inka Corn - 4oz, $15.99 for 6pk
I 'd never seen Inka Corn prior to, so I was beyond pumped about this product. And it definitely did not dissatisfy. These roasted huge corn kernels were merely the ideal amount of salted and also crispy. And also because they were so big, a handful was a good sufficient treat for me. I began to crave them. When my bag was done, I couldn't find this brand name in any one of the stores I went to. Luckily, Trader Joe's sells essentially the exact same product. An 8 oz bag will just cost you $1.79. I acquired the last 4 they had.
Next Organics Dark Chocolate Pretzels - 4 oz,$ 4.39
These were absolutely tasty. I'm a large proponent of anything covered in delicious chocolate, specifically dark chocolate. These crackers made a fantastic reward when those late evening sugary foods yearnings kicked in.
Bare Fruit Salted Caramel Apple Chips - $1.89, 10 count for $25
I'm not a massive follower of dried out fruit, yet there's a very first time for every little thing. It took me a couple of 'chips' to readjust, but after that I was happily biting. The salted caramel flavor wasn't also strong, so if that's exactly what you're searching for in this treat, it could be most ideal to look elsewhere. However if you're seeking a discreetly pleasant, healthy alternative to a cookie, these apple chips make a terrific fix.
Sunrise Fresh Dried Cherries - 1oz (try dimension) $12.99 for 16oz bag
Once again, I came to grips with the entire dried fruit point. For science, I ate one. The dried out cherry had not been bad, yet I assume I require a lot more baby actions before I make that jump. Rather, I determined to get innovative with this part of my plan. I made oatmeal protein cookies and included the cherries in as an additional flourish. They were wonderful, and the cherries provided the cookie a nice tip of sharp. Possibly following time, dried fruit, maybe following time.
Bumble Bar Organic Energy Bar, Almond - 1.4 oz, $1.99 each or $18.88 for a 12pk.
I love protein bars. Love love love. They're an excellent on-the-go snack, plus if you obtain the appropriate ones, they don't taste like cardboard. For this particular bar, I opened the product packaging as well as was questioning why they 'd unintentionally sent me birdseed. Yet alas, this was actually the bar. It was mainly composed of sesame seeds, with some chopped up almonds sprinkled through. It had a good vanilla/cinnamon flavor to it, yet I could only eat sesame seeds for so long. My first suggestion off should have been that this bar is gluten cost-free, wheat complimentary, and also dairy products complimentary. There isn't really much left after that.
Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts,.5 oz (example dimension) - $15.50 for 1lb bag
This little try bag of hemp hearts was among my favored products from my box this month. Not only had I never consumed them, I had no concept what to do with them! Manitoba has a dish section on their internet site for this kind of circumstance, so I sprinkled them on my spinach salad. They added a good, nutty flavor, which I wasn't expecting. My next relocation is to place them in a protein shake, because believe it or not, hemp seeds are fairly high in protein.
Shelton's Pepperoni Flavored Turkey Jerky Stick - 36 matter for $48
Do you ever obtain yearnings for healthy protein? Not the powder per say, however a protein abundant food like jerky? Merely me? Anyhow, this jerky stick was so yummy, as well as was available in convenient when I had not been quite full. It made an excellent snack when I was still doing homework around 9:45 pm, but really did not wish to cook a dish. Plus the pepperoni taste had not been excessively artificial tasting.
Ricky's Lucky Nuts, Coffee Flavor, 1.75 oz - $1.59 each, $24.00 for 12pk
These coffee cooked peanuts were divine. I do not believe there's one more method to define them. Extreme yum factor.
Guru Natural Energy Beverage, 8.4 oz - $2.50 each
In lieu of my morning coffee, I grabbed this instead. It was respectable, however the taste is hard to describe. It isn't really standard like 'grape' or 'lemonade' flavor like lots of other power drinks. It was wonderful. The can was 100 calories as well as 25 grams of sugar, so if you are going to get one for work, bear in mind that. I'll get back to you on the energizing part.
Vintage Italia Spicy Tomato Herb Pasta Chips, 2 oz - $2.50 each, $30 for a 12pk of 5 oz bags
I 'd seen these on sale in delicatessens as well as coffeehouse, yet I 'd never ever chose one up. The pasta chips were a gotten preference, but I did get made use of to it. I believe my brain was automatically anticipating potato chips. They were evocative a thinner Sunlight Chip to me, and also I'm not certain if I diggin' the flavor all way too much. But I 'd be completely ready to see just what they're garlic olive oil bag preferences like!
Betty Lou's Ginseng Power Round, 1.4 oz - $1.25 each, $16.09 for 12 count
Well, for one, this treat removed my sinuses in ten seconds flat. The ginseng flavor is solid. The nuts give it a fantastic crunch though, as well as it's a great treat for when you remain in a pinch. I reiterate: solid ginseng taste. If you're not really feeling a spicy kick to your day, Betty Lou's makes these nut spheres in an array of other flavors.
Snap Infusion Supercandy Tart, 1oz - $1.99
I was excited to try these sweets also, which made them even a lot more of an allowed down. They were milky and also reminded me of the vitamins I made use of to take as a youngster. And also you would certainly have to eat the whole bag to get the full dietary dose. Possibly it was merely the tart taste I didn't take care of, yet I don't see myself purchasing these in the future. If I desire a dosage of vitamin C, I'll consume an orange.
Total Box Value: $22.00
Honestly, the February box had me underwhelmed. Some of the items were delicious, however it had not been what I had actually visualized. The overall value just amounted to be a little bit more compared to $20, so I'm still questioning whether the item deserves it or otherwise. Fingers crossed for March to be a little more thrilling!
