2021 Fic Recs

Alright, this year SUCKED- except for the fic! I don't wanna dwell on the misery that was this whole year, but I do wanna celebrate some really talented authors who kept me going this year. So here are 21 of my favorite fics from 2021 :D

They're all from assorted fandoms and authors, and different ratings/ genres. The only hard rule here is that they were all completed in 2021. So no WIPS here!

Here they are, in no particular order!

First off, some Halbarry:

The world’s ridiculous, and Hal’s going to tell Barry all about it. Oh, and hopefully they'll get together at some point.

It’s not like Hal really has a plan, but that's never stopped him before. Let the whining and dining commence!

Will-they-won't-they-should-they-shouldn't-they, could-they-would-they-will-they, the five times Hal and Barry almost and the one time they did.

It goes like this: Hal can't stop looking in broken mirrors, and Barry can't stop with the what-ifs, and together they can overcome death but somehow intimacy draws them up short.

I Second That Emotion by CapedCommissioner @leftsmitteninbritain (Teen and up)

Hal’s report is simple. The Guardians tried to make some upgrades to the Central Power Battery, and they went awry. All Green Lanterns are, currently, at the mercy of their emotions - ones that are, in fact, amplified by that fuck-up with the Power Battery, and perfectly visible through the rings.

Barry decides to keep him company while he's under lockdown, and Hal's ring decides to force his heart onto his sleeve.

the core four part ways when they graduate. life moves on. they each think that they’ve left the past in the past until they all receive invitations to the ten-year reunion.

against their better judgements, all four attend and are reunited for the first time in a decade.

as they struggle to come to terms with their fractured relationships, the voyeur (who isn’t done with them just yet) sends them into fox forest on the night of a full moon where jughead and veronica stumble upon a dark ritual meant to fix the broken timeline of a different town.

They have to convince the rival mob (and all of New York's juiciest tabloids) that they're madly in love.

“Yes.” Steve’s heart feels like it’s beating straight out of his ears, but he forced himself to go on. He’s too close to finishing to stop. “I’m going on a quest.” He pauses to lick his lips, eyes still locked with James' own. “And if you’re willing, I’d like for you to go with me.“

Steve spins around and has to put a hand out to the bar to steady himself at what he finds. The voice belongs to a guy that shouldn't be real. A guy with long dark hair falling across his shoulders in waves. Eyes that catch the light and flash through shades of steel and blue. And cheekbones that shouldn't exist outside of a magazine. A guy that is staring at Steve and smiling. 'Um, hi,' Steve says, breathless and fumbling to sit back on the stool behind him, 'Uhh...' He's trying to speak but his brain won't cooperate.

'Oh, he's shy,' the guys says, stepping into Steve's space. He makes an elegant hand gesture to the bartender and then leans his body into the bar, 'Must be my lucky day.'

An AU where Steve and Bucky have a forgotten history, an undeniable attraction, and are about to lose everything except each other.

Really, Eddie doesn’t care that the PTA aren’t his biggest fan. He knows he misses too many meetings, and it’s not like he’s best friends with any of the other parents. It doesn’t affect Christopher, so it doesn’t bother him. He’ll pay for the annual fundraising mugs and consider his duty done.

But then Buck picks Christopher up from a class trip and it all goes to hell.

Like, of course Buck is everyone’s dream guy. He’s responsible with kids, and kind, and funny and interesting and hot to touch. That’s obvious. But now Eddie’s fighting to keep the PTA moms, teachers, and dads, all off an unsuspecting and tempting Buck.

Because Eddie is a good friend. Right?

Peter's stressed enough as it is with work and rent and school and a new super villain cropping up — he just doesn't have time for this. He especially doesn't have time for Deadpool accosting Peter Parker, wanting Spider-Man's photographer to help track down the elusive hero.

Basically a rewrite of the first Deadpool movie mixed with The Amazing Spider-Man movies (AKA what if they were the love interest in each other’s movies).

What if Wade had changed his plan and Peter had been the one delivering pizza to Jeremy the stalker.

Sonny hadn’t thought all that much about the implications of his name being where a father’s usually would be on Jesse’s school paperwork until he heard the assumption - he found himself nodding in agreement, going along with it much as he had allowed a nurse to assume he was Amanda’s husband just so that he could stay by her side when her father was hospitalised in the Spring.
