Fucked up HLVRAI/Half Life mermaid au idea
Black Mesa knows about mermaids/sirens. They also eventually figure out how to make them. However, the mermaids they make aren't based off of any real existing fish. They figured out how to pick and choose traits and make some pretty awful abominations that are a mix of different fish species just because they can even if it is unethical as hell and many test subjects die.
To do these experiments, they pick disposable employees like security guards, or scientists who fuck up enough and won't be missed. They bring them in in the guise of a promotion, then they make their own fucked up mermaids. "Volunteers" are also accepted when it's either do this or Black Mesa makes sure you and your remains are never found.
They then keep them in a big tank, Sea World style because fuck them both.
Their goal with this project is to study mermaids but also be able to send one of their own down into the ocean to possibly mingle with a school and learn more information.
You could probably guess that this would fuck them up pretty bad mentally. :)

Do You Remember? There Is Nothing Else I Can Do. Chapter Two
"It's not Black Mesa." As much as it hurt Bubby to admit, he had to. The logo on the side wasn't Black Mesa. It had the lambda that was on some variations, but that could have meant anything. The broom? Well, Bubby had an idea, but he wasn't entirely sure. He didn't want to give anyone any sort of idea of who these could be. He could be horribly wrong anyways.
"You're sure on that?" Gordon was hovering over his shoulder, just out of sight of the submarines working around the building. Bubby nodded, gesturing towards the logo on the side of the sub.
"That mark, it's not Black Mesa. It's someone else." Bubby sighed softly, shaking his head. "I don't want to trust it, but I'm not gonna take out Black Mesa on them. They haven't done the crimes that Black Mesa did."
Gordon sighed, nodding a bit. "We'll leave it for now... but if they start pulling the same stuff Black Mesa did, well..."
Bubby grinned a bit. "Of course."
They turn away from the subs, and Bubby takes the lead from Gordon, his speed usually outmatching the gulper eel's these days. Gordon laughed, pouring on the speed to see if he could go faster. It was their own little race back home, where Coomer was waiting with food, just outside their shared burrow.
The area, and quick glance, was simply a sandy area. If you took a better look, there were some openings, burrows of various creatures. Tommy and Darnold didn't have this, however, as they were either too big to properly fit, in Tommy's case, and couldn't use one, in Darnold's.
Bubby and Coomer's was the closest to the old Black Mesa site, so Bubby got to him first, nearly bowling him over, wrapping himself around him, with his tail around his middle, right where Coomer's own tail started. Coomer laughed, holding him up rather easily, both because the water, and Coomer's own strength.
Benrey was emerging from his own burrow, dragging Forzen out along with him. He called out for Tommy as he did, bringing him and Darnold back over, Darnold beginning the slow circling around the gathering group. Gordon tossed him something, it floating through the water before Darnold, as he passed by, shot his jaw out to catch it.
Bubby had never really gotten used to that. He chose instead to ignore it, settling down as the group began to eat.
"So. How are we dealing with the uhhh bitches?" Benrey asked. "Feeling uhhhh.... very kill them. Again. Let's do that."
"It's not Black Mesa again." Bubby sighed. "They're different."
Tommy frowned, swallowing before speaking. "Different?"
"The logo is different. They're someone else... We're not punishing them for Black Mesa's crimes."
There was a bit of unease at that, but it wasn't like it was going to be something they argued with. If anyone had a choice in what to do with Black Mesa, it was Bubby, and even then, it wasn't like they were going to attack people for just being down here. They weren't animals after all.
Bubby huffed softly, turning to look back towards where the new base stood, atop the grave of the old base, where everything he had been as human died. Where someone was coming to return to do something. It couldn't be helped, really, they had to watch this go down, and make sure those sins weren't repeated.
"Bubby?" He glanced back, as Coomer shifted up, wrapping both sets of arms around Bubby's middle. He sighed, leaning his head back onto Coomer's shoulder. "You don't have to be a part of this."
"I do." Bubby muttered, and Coomer nodded, like he had already known the answer. So instead, Coomer just held him for a long moment, before shifting and pulling Bubby along with him. "Where are you taking me?"
"The den. You're laying down and taking a nap." Coomer grinned, and Bubby huffed out a sigh, but smiled, content to let Coomer drag him along back to their den.

ok im too lazy to draw this so youre getting a textpost baby
BUT!
panepon au. basically follows general plot of panepon. fun little fairy land but MONSTERS are invading and all your friends are turned EVIL and you have to save them (beat them in a match three game)
our protagonist is tommy, the flower fairy. "why is tommy the protagonist shouldnt gordo-" SHUT UP HEATHWR!!! i'll GET to it but also tommy just reminds me of lip (the flower fairy in panepon) ok?
the first fairy you save, the wind fairy, is BARNEY CALHOUN because this is a hlvrai + half life au (aka i didnt have enough characters). why? shrugs. just. eh. vague gesturing. i think her free spirited nature works for barney
next is ALYX whos the ice fairy because sherbet is described as a silly little trickster and im like yeah thatd be funny
the nature fairy is gordon (hlvrai) because hes a nature guy in my heart of hearts
benrey is the jewel fairy because. looks around. sighs. i just really like the jewel fairy and i really like benrey. (also the term "shadow leader" is used in rubys character description and thats. im so NORMAL about that phrasing. plus due to lore reasons ill get to her being the shadow leader implies shes buddies with lip whos tommy in this au)
the water fairy is dr coomer! because the fire fairy is bubby and. well. im not immune to cliche
the sea fairy is darnold. sea and water are two separate elements here!!! i just think darnold mermaid is neat okay. something something sea. soda. whatever
the moon fairy is gordon (half life) ONE because shes described as the group leader DESPITE lip being the ACTUAL leader. two. idk something about moon imagery and gordon freeman. they go together in my head
the goddess cordelia is GMAN (hlvrai to be specific). because cordelias whole thing is that shes the final FINAL boss but its revealed that all the monsters and stuff were ILLUSIONS she created to test her daughter, LIP, to see if her daughter was prepared to take on the mantle of queen. do you see how this fits gman and tommy now?
as you can tell i dont have a lot of solid reasoning for most characters its mostly vibes especially since in panepon they dont have very solid personalities so vibes are my best bet. maybe i'll draw all these guys because i want too im just lazy. but this au occupies my brain and i have to get it OUT
sidenote i havent fully worked this psrt out but itd be really funny if dr breen was thanatos the demon king

Do You Remember? There Is Nothing Else I Can Do. Chapter One
When Black Mesa had finally gone bankrupt, after years of lawsuit after lawsuit after lawsuit, when finally everyone got tired of being pushed around, the Cleanup Initiative formed to go around the old bases and, as the name might suggest, clean everything up after them.
They had heard of the base down in the ocean from the main hub out in New Mexico. Isaac had been going through there-how the fuck is there this much toxic waste-and managed to find some old terminals they could break into. There was all the note on that base.
And the last person sent down there was Subject 13-V.
Now, Isaac can fully admit he joined the Initiative with a few ulterior motives now.
Most of them did. Isaac had come in, and, when asked, and told the truth. He was here looking for someone who went missing after working for Black Mesa.
Of course, they added his name to the list of people they were looking for, and that was that.
When he finally made the connection to Subject 13-V, he was both ecstatic, and horribly upset.
After all, he found something, but... well, does anyone really wanna find out that the person they were looking for became a test subject?
It did mean that he had an easy paper trail.
So finding the last known place of Subject 13-V was this underwater base hidden deep in the depths? Well... Isaac figured he'd finally found the closure he had been begging for.
Most of them, with their list of those they're looking for, found closure in knowing their death. There was one or two, who found their loved ones again, hidden of somewhere, but they were so far and few between that Isaac knew that there was a minuscule chance he'd ever see his brother again.
But going down there again and seeing everything for himself? He had to have the chance.
So they built the base down there, and down he went, bringing along with him a few friends.
Down in the depths, he wondered how Bubby felt. He was alone down here, while Isaac had people. They had left his brother down here alone.
A not unfamiliar rising rage burned in his throat at the thought, and he swallowed it down again, as he always had. No need getting angry at a dead company. He had already played his part in it's downfall. All that was left to do was clean up now.
Still. He stared out a window into the deep dark ocean, wondering if Bubby had been scared.
A pair of arms wrapped around his middle, and Isaac sighed, leaning into Eli's arms.
"We'll find something." He promised into Isaac's shoulder, and Isaac nodded a bit, wrapping a hand around Eli's arm.
"I just... wish this had all happened sooner... Maybe we would've found him alive." Isaac sighed, shaking his head. "No use thinking of that though..."
"You can still wish it happened, Izzy."
Isaac sighed, nodding slightly, pulling away to turn around just to hug him properly.
They stood there for a long moment, until Alyx leaned into the room. "Hey dad, Barney's ready to go."
They pulled back a bit, and Eli nods. "Alright sweetheart, I'll be right out." Alyx nodded, bouncing off again to the control room. Eli looked back to Isaac. "Ready to start looking?"
Isaac let out a breath, then nodded, following Eli out of the room.
