𝖆𝖈𝖙 𝖎𝖎𝖎, 𝖘𝖈𝖊𝖓𝖊 𝖎.
𝖘𝖞𝖓𝖔𝖕𝖘𝖎𝖘,  robby performs ❝ 𝖇𝖑𝖚𝖊 𝖋𝖑𝖆𝖒𝖊. ❞ 𝖒𝖊𝖓𝖙𝖎𝖔𝖓𝖘,  jamie han, mason lee, son taegyeom. 𝖜𝖔𝖗𝖉 𝖈𝖔𝖚𝖓𝖙,  written in roughly 𝟏,𝟎𝟗𝟎 words.
to put it plainly, robby’s been pretty bored for this leg of the competition. it’s not so much out of overconfidence, per se, but more that he, unfortunately, finds the song selection really dull this go around. it’s not as though it’s one of 365′s worst releases, he’s not saying that, but when compared to ❛ maverick, ❜ it doesn’t pack the same punch, especially when the choreography is taken into consideration. as he’s a dancer above all, he looks forward to spending hours upon hours learning moves, adding his own flair to them, perfecting his angles, & really pouring all of his soul into the performance through his motions alone. this time, however, the combinations his group’s been given are simple — way too simple, he’d wager — & it took him little-to-no time to memorize everything ;; the ease of it immediately being picked up by muscle memory in a way that he’s used to, which is a bittersweet sensation for him.
clearly, the obstacle he faces is meant to test his other skills — the ones that aren’t as polished as his dancing. it goes without saying that he’s not the most confident in his singing voice, & he doesn’t think he’s a bad singer, but if he draws comparisons between him & the others signed to wonder nation, it’s clear that they’re far more advanced than he is ;; his own brother included in the list of guys he’s thinking about. being that they’re on the same team, he leaned on jamie a lot for guidance ;; grateful that the two of them could lift one another up during this portion of the show. with his sibling’s help, he was able to work on his parts enough to feel better about his odds, but there’s still a little devil on his shoulder informing him that failure is a possibility, especially since he may have some bad karma looming above him.
nevertheless, all of the preparation is behind him as he steadies himself onstage ;; his heartbeat escalating more than in the last round, but that’s mostly due to the fact that he’s been pushed out of his comfort zone here. all robby can do is his best, & while he personally believes that it’s enough to put him in the judges’ good graces, he doesn’t want to get too ahead of himself. it’s confidence that gets people further in life, not cockiness, & instead of being delusional about his talents, he’s choosing to be self-aware. what his voice is known for is its color, its tone ;; one that has been called ❛ unique ❜ since his audition. it’s gentle rasp, medium-high range, tasteful nasality, & slight ❛ emo whine ❜ captures attention, even if it’s technically imperfect. he’s not concerned about being in tune, or launching into stable high notes, no — he’s focused on leaning into his ear-catching timbre, & performing a detailed dance.
once the beat starts, his limbs unfold like the petal of a flower — honing in on the angles & lines of each movement as opposed to packing them with power, & well-timed tension. this song is a softer one, in general, & it needs to be paired with actions that match its vibe ;; ones that flow with a delicate swing & sharpness. however, he tries his best not to get too wrapped up in the choreography. instead, he’s taking a note from the others :: dance in a way that makes it easier to control breath support. as he’s leading the first verse, his vocal sets the tone for the song, & as his part approaches, he swallows his nerves & goes for it ;; decorating his sound with sultry breathiness to better accentuate the cool production of the song.
he’s not worried about the verses. what he’s concerned about are the choruses he sings. the melody becomes higher, & it requires him to use more breath in order to hit the notes properly. they’re what he worked the hardest on, & he hopes his practicing pays off. though, before he launches into his lines during the first chorus, he gets the pleasure of being able to listen to taegyeom perform right before him, & he smiles at how stunning his voice is. knowing that he’s not only devilishly handsome, but also extremely talented, is one of the many things robby finds so enchanting about him. however, he doesn’t want to get distracted, so as he steps up to bat, he gives it his all. he’s a bit flat on one of the top notes, & his attempt at a riff is messy, but not horrible. the attractiveness of his tonality is still there, so at least that quality's intact.
throughout the duration of the song, robby handles everything well. the bridge he sings is pretty, the performance, as far as dancing goes, is great as expected, but he does flub a little bit, & it’s all because he becomes hopelessly transfixed with one of his group-mates. during the final chorus, as he stands beside taegyeom in the center & sings his half of it, the other’s high notes & their power capture his attention so much that he forgets the lyrics for a second ;; mumbling them out in tune before catching up with them again. not wanting to show any panic on his face, he carries through to the end, but internally, he’s obsessing over his mistake ;; beating himself up as he takes his last stance in the formation, his chest rising & falling slowly as he does his best to catch his breath — the intensity in his gaze strikingly prominent.
in the end, he gets lauded for his dancing & magnetism, but his singing is questioned. as wonder nation is a subsidiary that highlights clean vocals & visuals, they’re a little harder on him for not being better than he is, but do take into consideration that he’s had a rather short training period ;; less than one year, to be specific. they try not to compare him to his brother, but one judge does remark that it’s ❝ shocking ❞ that jamie sings so well, & that robby isn’t anywhere near his level yet. that comment feels like a blade digging into his ego, but he still bows & thanks the judges for their criticism. with this turn, a new fire is ignited within him ;; one that he’ll take with him throughout the rest of the competition. all he can hope is that he remains in the elite class. if not, there’ll be hell to pay for whoever votes him out... that’s for damn sure.

two steps forward, one step back self-para
being part of the show was a decision sebastian picked himself. he had wanted to prove that even though he was vocal and instrument oriented, he could be part of a boy-band if he so seen it fit.
it was quite more challenging than he had thought it would be. though he was quite all right at dancing, it wasn't something he solely focused on, rather wanting to better his songwriting and singing skills, he wondered if he had shot himself in the foot by signing up for this. he wasn't someone who would consider himself to be insecure, but at times like these, he couldn't help but to compare himself to the rest of the contestants, and wonder if he even fit in any of this.
his grandmother told him the biggest key of success was confidence, and believing he could make it.
he wouldn't lie and say he was quite content with what he got when the line distribution was revealed. he didn't really get to sing much, he tried his best not to think as if the world was against him in some type of way, dramatic way of thinking, really. but maybe it was a gift given so he could show himself off in an other type of way.
visuals and dancing. he knew he had singing down, no matter what line was given to him, he could smash it through the park. the most difficult would probably be performance. there was something awkward about the thought of dancing in front of a panel of judges, being criticized or complimented, it made sebastian scrunch his nose in distaste. not that he was above it, but it was something that filled him with an uncomfortable amount of anxiety, something he struggled with most of the times. it was odd to think of him as someone who feared others thoughts of him, but it was more so that he craved their acceptance, and wanted to be welcomed into their fold.
he wanted this, though. he moved up to be part of the elite class, and he wanted to show that it wasn't for nothing. that he could step up his game and show off his talents without having to exaggerate; show a self-control and restraint, while proving that he knew how to manipulate his voice, and control his body.
he honestly never looked so much at his own appearance through a mirror so much in the last few days before evaluations. he found himself nearly growing crazy trying to find the perfect expressions to use while he was hitting a certain move, twisting a certain way- and don't even get him started on dancing. though he considered himself good enough, clearly he hadn't really took into consideration dance styles. he was more of a contemporary type of man, and though he was lucky enough that the dance was quite fluid, he hadn't perfected total control of his body, and how to lock certain joints- it was horrible.
he never felt so proud before as he stepped forward to preform with the other contestants. it was his time to shine and show what he could offer and bring to the plate. he had only a few lines to perform, his voice soft and soothing whenever they sung in unison, and he made sure to make it pop whenever he got his solo lines. he thinks his dancing went pretty smoothly, not as perfect as everyone else, and the mistakes he did make, instead of stumbling along, he followed through with them, turning each mistake to an additional movement, adding a certain flair to his movements. it wasn't perfect, but it was inherently him, and if anything, the judges could get a taste of who he was as a performer, and his personality.
the critiques weren't as horrible as he thought they would be- most of them complimenting his visuals, the freckles that stood out through the makeup he had did, the highlighter on his cheeks, his lip gloss, his expressions, though he seemed to be cold at first, unfurled during the performance, he was asked to smile some more though, whatever that meant- voice being praised, he was told that they couldn't wait to hear him sing some more, excited to see what other genres he fit best in. his dancing received somewhat mix reviews, though not perfect, the mistakes were pointed out, he was praised for his adaptability, and how he didn't show through his expressions whenever he made errors; they liked seeing despite it all the personality in his performance, and was told to keep the hard work going.
sebastian figured it could have been a lot worse.

— closed started for @hdhien // the cold icy wind whipped against her face as she looked out over the slope. she was bundled up in a puffer jacket and three layers underneath. a ski resort isn’t typically where she would choose to go on vacation, but she didn’t mind. and she couldn’t really beat a company paid vacation. it was a welcome escape from the constant presence of vocal and dance practice along with her part time job. she was okay at skiing. knew how to do it without tumbling down the slope or so she thought. it was small enough hill. she’s done bigger slopes then this before. it should have been easy. and at first it was.
she started pulling herself forward with the poles digging into the fresh fallen snow. the snow fell on her as she made her way to the edge. she dropped over the edge and started to glide from side to side as she slid down. what she failed to notice is the tree fast approaching her. in a hurry to she shoved herself to the side to avoid hitting it. with the sudden change in direction she lost balance and started tumbling down the hill. she countwd to tumblr before reaching a stop in a fresh pile of snow carved out around her body.

⌇⌇ 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤 ⤷ present day with @hdsuho ⤷ location: yongpyong ski resort
it's been years since taejin last visited the slopes. with his second evaluation behind him and the prospect of ten days at a ski resort in front of him—all expenses paid—it makes sense for taejin to be a bit excited. a bit careless, too. completely understandable, then, when he drops his phone on the ski lift going up, right as he's about to press the shutter to take a picture of the scenery.
mouth slightly agape, he stares blankly at the spot where his phone fell as it recedes further away. before it's too late, he remembers the practical thing to do and does a quick scan of his surroundings to make a note of where to go back to find it.
he does not find it.
even when he makes sure to go to the exact area where he knows he dropped his phone, his first run down the slope, taejin comes up empty.
spotting suho also at the bottom of the hill, taejin pushes off from his snowboard to glide over to his friend. in full dramatics, he drapes himself over his back as soon as he's within reach, letting out a muffled groan into the nylon fabric of his snow jacket. "suhoooo—" he props his chin on his shoulder. "i dropped my phone on the lift, and i couldn't find it on my way down. will you help me look?"

━━ : 𝐁𝐔𝐑𝐃𝐄𝐍 𝐎𝐅 𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐄 .
DATED: mid-february 2023 FEATURING: hyde academy contestants & staff ( named references + npc's ) WORD COUNT: 1,460
EVERYTHING IS SOFTER UNDERWATER, INDISTINCT OUTLINES AMID MUTED TONES.
Minseon's eyes fall shut, and he wonders briefly if, to the casual observer, underwater, he seems that way too — gentle and silken and pliable — or... if he just looks the way he's always been, the way he's angular in a way that bites, treacherous creature in still waters.
( — Unfortunately, here, he's in the pool alone, and he cannot see outside of himself, so he does not have an answer. Instead, he tries to let himself sink.
And finds that he floats, of course. )
It is 4:58 on the morning following their first night in Paju. Minseon is twenty years and almost two days old now, and already, he has had too much to think. His thoughts circle back to the way his stomach somersaulted when project staff had smiled and said 'get well acquainted'. It'd felt, to him, like a sentencing, but he watched some of the other boys fall over each other, cheer, draw up plans for the coming week, and determined the feeling wasn't universal. He withdrew to one of the studio rooms and did not emerge until he felt it was safe to do so.
He surfaces now and takes a desperate gulp of air. He'd half-expected The Boy to turn up at some point, but it's foolish to think The Boy would ever make an appearance when he's not unwanted. Slippery little fucker. Minseon is appalled that he'd even consider his transient nightmares something to look forward to. It's probably a byproduct of having no one to talk with— or, more accurately, it's a byproduct of having talked with no one. Because it's not as if the options aren't there. Minseon is already more than well-acquainted with a handful of contestants; it's just... he's not the type of person who reaches out to others. People either run into him or they don't. He is a specter who speaks only when spoken to, and that's probably why staff sandwiched his name between Jamie Han and Mason Lee's for the pairing sequence.
They need A-roll, after all. Not just some throwaway footage of a ghost haunting the manor.
Minseon treads to the edge of the pool so he can catch his reflection in one of the windows lining the walls. Ever since they announced the initial groups for their first day onscreen, he's been mired in uncertainty, not sure if he's meant to feel reassured by the decision or if it was issued to him like some sort of pre-production challenge. He can't help but already feel out of place, wedged between two of the most radiant people he knows, a pair much closer to each other than anyone here is to Minseon. At this point, he's already given up on making a stellar first impression to the public; he only hopes he's able to skirt by without dimming either of his friends' respective lights. Modest ambitions. He tries to recall what their smiles look like.
A cheap imitation of that recollection pulls tentatively at his lips, but the image reflected in the window is enough to startle him that it immediately drops into a scowl. This expression looks much more natural on his features, but... he tries the pastiche again.
( And even when he's prepared for it, it's still incredibly unsettling. )
Minseon presses his palms to his eyes. "Christ, I'm gonna make myself puke."
His heart nearly falls out his ass when he hears a stifled giggle punctuate the end of that sentence. The mortification that follows is so great, he hardly feels he has the strength to turn around.
But when he does, he's greeted by two members of production staff.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Joonhee's companion levels her with a look so sharp, her body immediately folds itself into a ninety-degree bow. She hadn't meant anything unkind by her tittering; it's just... five in the morning, and there's a boy in the pool making faces at the window. She's stressed, hasn't really accounted for this week-long break, and the whole thing feels like they've accidentally taken twenty of the world's most repressed children on the first vacation of their lives.
Nevertheless, she clears her throat. "Apologies, we didn't mean to interrupt! We'd just wanted a shot of the sun rising over the pool window—"
"I'll get out," the kid says. And she recognizes him. Of course she does: Kang Minseon, one of the brand options of the show, completed his quarterly evaluation with high marks.
Beyond facts and figures, Joonhee doesn't know much else about him.
"... We didn't think anyone would be here so early," her companion, Hojin, chimes in. He doesn't look up from where he's already arranging his filming equipment. To an untrained eye, he accomplishes this work with deft fingers, but Joonhee has been by his side for a little over six months, and she knows he's feigning indifference solely for the comfort of their unexpected little guest.
Minseon moves to climb out of the pool, and Joonhee hurries to envelop him in a towel. He looks embarrassed with the attention. "... Sorry, I just wanted to wake up earlier... clear my head 'nd...... go for a swim......" Their eyes meet, and Joonhee is certain that he has just told her a lie. He hasn't slept.
"... 'Clear your head'? Is there anything you want to share?" she broaches gently.
He says: "Sure."
( But she doubts this young man has ever been 'sure' of anything in his life. )
He takes a pause. "Um......... 's there anything you want me to share?"
And this time, Joonhee is successful in swallowing down her giggles. "Anything you feel comfortable sharing," she assures him. "Any confusion you might be feeling, or... worries about the show, or... questions? — You don't need to. I just wanted to offer myself as a resource, in case—"
"I have a question, then," he says. And from the way it's already on the tip of his tongue, Joonhee can tell it's a question that's been given much thought. "After we film Volume I of the show, ... do y' think the company will give us..... —" He tapers off before finishing his sentence. There's a short stretch of silence in which Joonhee wonders if she's meant to ask a followup. But before she can open her mouth, he suddenly continues: "Do you think they'll give the eliminated contestants time to go home? ... Maybe...... take a break before they go back to training?"
Hojin's hands stop moving.
Minseon looks down at Joonhee with his lips pursed in expectation.
She's at a loss. It's not really the question she'd been expecting. "I'm not—" she stammers. Shit. She's only involved as far as taking care of contestants who'll be on the show, not... "Um," she starts, voice wavering, "I'm really not sure about that, but— I don't think it's out of the question! I really doubt that it's out of the question..."
Minseon says, "Mm." Joonhee can't be sure that he's satisfied by that answer, but he still dips his head into a small bow and adds, "Okay. Thank you."
He moves to pick up his jacket from one of the pool chairs at the same time she blurts out, "I'll walk you to the elevators."
The offer gives him some pause. "... Okay. Thank you."
For the next fifteen seconds, they walk in silence.
As they wait for an elevator, Joonhee struggles to think of something to make Minseon feel better, already has a list of names she can ask for the answer to his question, but Minseon interrupts her thought process with another inquiry, one she almost misses because it's nearly inaudible: "When you first came in, ... did you laugh 'cause I looked funny...?"
Joonhee wants the floor to swallow her whole. "No! ... No. I apologize. I only laughed out of disbelief at the situation, and I'm— so sorry if I made you feel like I was laughing at you. I promise it wasn't my intention."
Minseon nods. " 's alright. ...... I do... think I looked kinda funny, so. Either way, 's fine with me." And the smile that pulls at his lips is crooked, but it doesn't look out of place there. Joonhee wishes she could convey that to him.
"Please have some confidence!" she implores. "The cameras will love you. Just... make sure to be yourself."
The elevator doors open, and Minseon moves forward. "Thank you," he says, vacantly.
As Junhee watches him step inside, it doesn't escape her attention that he draws his jacket tightly over the slope of his shoulders. He looks small that way, standing in the elevator alone. He looks...
The doors close. Junhee doesn't move.
. . .
He looks lonely.

HD:EVAL: Interview Solo, 5348WC
siyoung was nervous.
she could tell in the way she thought about herself. right now, it was kang siyoung, a bubble of nerves walking into her formal interview. not the confident sienna that came out when she was preforming. it was something, the fact that she had to wear formal dress. the fact that it was called an interview. the fact that this interview would be wih jang hei-ran. or the fact that this was also the results of an evaluation that siyoung felt would decide her future.
it was all wrapped up into one.
she made it inside somehow, after a deep breath. bowed, took her seat and waited. the moment team c's name was said, siyoung sat a little straighter. she couldn't deny that it would've been nice to have their own song but performing a senior's song was still a challenging task. comparisons would be made. when the team was given a compliment, her shoulders had relaxed just a little. good, they didn't fail and make a fool of themselves. the company was impressed, and they managed to impress the others that were watching. it was a win she would take, forcing herself not to smile. bowing her head in thanks.
at the question, sienna paused. it was better to be truthful right? "i'd work hard at any concept given to me." She wanted them to know she was grateful, that she'd raise to the challenge, no matter what it was. "that being said, i think i'd like a more mature sound or something elegant? if i had to use simple terms, something more girl-crush, a hip-hop or even r&b sound or something unique." siyoung forced herself to stop there, not wanting to ramble on. they got the point. there was no need for her to over-explain in a jumbled mess.
her personal evaluation was coming next and siyoung swallowed. sure, the group overall was good but what about her?
then there was a rush of information, siyoung could feel herself blinking several times as she tried to take it in. she did well? praise? she reminded them of her senior? a debut contract? at some point, siyoung knew she had to force herself to breath. if she had been standing, she would've fainted in a second.
a small silence followed, in which siyoung tried to find something to say, the proper way to say it. her voice as found moments later. "thank you, thank you." those were the first words that came out in a rush, thank you. it was almost as if she couldn't say it enough and thinking about it, that was true. "i promise to work hard and make the company proud." she would. she had too. given the chance, siyoung would do anything she could to prove it.
siyoung found herself free to leave after that, still reeling for the information. somehow, she made it out of the room without screaming or jumping. even when the door closed behind her, she managed to silent jump up and down like a crazed manic.
and she simply couldn't care.
this was it, her chance to debut. her path to debut. it was everything she had been waiting for and now that it was in her hands, siyoung refused to let it go.

The anticipated evaluations marked a crucial moment to your character’s idol progression. Team A, B, and C, were slotted for the very first day of evaluations between over 30+ qualified trainees. With training reverting back to normal, your character, Kang Siyoung, will receive an e-mail from Hydra Staff with the date and time for their formal interview. The dress code is business casual, and the interview place will take place in the Office Section of the building, led by Talent Consultant Jang Hei-ran and her team. They’ll be the ones relaying individual scores, remarks from personnel (CEOs, instructors, etc.), and as previously stated, providing next-step strategies. It’s a hallmark moment that, admittedly, the company believes your character is ready for. The meeting will presumably last for half an hour or more, pending dialogue.
𝐓𝐄𝐀𝐌 𝐂 are the outliners in the qualified groups assessed, the only group without an original song selection to showcase their talents in new ways. “We were hoping for an original piece too, but the homage to former label mates #Tag is a prerequisite to capture the company’s soulful essence. The title track from the girl group’s fourth album is designed for a large number of trainees, but even with the member cuts at the beginning, we believe the team effort made the performance such a success.” Heiran, who worked closely with #Tag in the past, seems to be rather pleased and doesn’t hide a known bias. “The sextet (+3 NPCS) impressed a lot of company personnel, from higher-ups to the dance instructors working alongside you. Expectantly, our critiques are more so catered to individual roles, and we’ll further go over those grievances in a little. Before we do, if you would change the group’s concept and song direction, what would your personal style/choice be?”
“You made quite the impact on stage. There’s a beauty to group mentality where other members have to draw attention with the role they’re given, it’s a certain individuality your company boasts about.” The staff member is clearly impressed by the trainee’s files. Heiran swiftly continues the company’s notes, “You presented yourself very strongly, you had a passionate conviction to the performance invoked from head to toe; there was a hint of nostalgia where you reminded us of #Tag’s Eunjoo and her comfortable confidence. But with a modern edge so authentic to you, many praises followed to know your name. With this impressive result, Starlight has extended another offer as a debut candidate in their upcoming girl group. It’s a relatively definite position with a pending debut contract, and more information to come after today’s interview. We’ve shortened your trainee schedule to Monday through Thursday, and you’ll remain in regular training in the meantime. We’re looking forward to your growth as an artist.”

𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐌𝐀𝐋 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐖 ! 𝚂𝙾𝙻𝙾
𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐋𝐘 𝐀𝐅𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐄𝐕𝐀𝐋𝐔𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒 // ~ 𝚃𝙸𝙼𝙴 𝚄𝙽𝙺𝙽𝙾𝚆𝙽 Jamie attends his formal interview …
Formal interview? The mere mention of formal has Jamie sweating. Nothing about Jamie is formal, or even can be formal. This sounds important though, so hoping it’s just a normal review of the evaluation, he puts on his barely worn, only slightly creased shirt and dress pants, brushes his hair, and arrives, surprisingly, right on time. He’s nervous, and it’s obvious in the way he can’t sit still in the few minutes he sits outside the interview room, waiting to be called. His knees bounce and he rubs his hands up and down his thighs, the repetitive feeling of mild burning as he creates friction between his palms and the material of his pants is surprisingly soothing.
Then, after what feels like forever, Jamie’s called into the room and he takes his seat, making a very conscious and sustained effort to stop fidgeting. He plants his feet flat on the ground and wills them not to move for the entirety of the interview. The interview begins with a review of the group’s overall performance, and instantly Jamie relaxes. It all sounds better than he’d expected to hear, and he can’t keep the smile off his face. He’d enjoyed their performance—had genuinely felt like he was having fun throughout the entire thing, and he was glad that that energy had seeped out into those watching them. The more he’d practised the song, the more he wished he could debut with it, or a song like it. The upbeat sound just felt so right for him. He was filled to the brim with energy, and to be in a group that meant he could let it out like he’d been able to during Beatbox would be truly more than he could hope for.
Yet that however kicks the smile off his face and reminds him where he is and what he’s here for. He nods, expression now much more serious as he listens intently. But, then the question is posed to him and Jamie stumbles over his thoughts for a moment, not expecting to be asked to speak. “Uh- I had a lot of fun with the performance, actually. It felt like a song that needed… genuine pep to get the energy across to the audience. But… there’s always room for improvement.” Jamie knows he’s nowhere near perfect, but he likes to think that that song had been the perfect fit for him to really show off what he’s good at.
The individual results, however, leave Jamie stunned, mouth slightly open for a second, before he clamps it shut and swallows thickly, unsure of how he’s allowed to react. It’s hard not to smile, though he tries hard to bite it back, when his voice is complimented. If there’s one thing Jamie’s confident in, and proud of, it’s his voice. He’s put so much into honing his vocal abilities in the last two and half years, and it seems to be paying off. But then, they start talking about the survival show, and the pressure now on his shoulders. It’s good to know they think his efforts aren’t going to waste, but now, with eyes so focused on him, he can feel his stomach twist into nervous knots.
We’re aware of your audition to Kiss Studios… Jamie feels just a tad feint at that, as if they’re about to scold him for disloyalty. But, the more he listens, the more clear it is that they’ll accept whatever decision he decides to make, and he’s almost certain that, through this conversation, and the assurance that they believe he’s doing well, he has potential, that he just needs to keep working hard, he’d made up his mind to stay at Wonder. His dream isn’t just to debut, he wants to debut with his best friend. He wants to debut with Mason, and if he decides not to stay at Wonder and partake in the survival show, then he’ll not debut with him. He’d known that auditioning may lead to him not debuting with Mason, but then he’d not been sure of his future at Wonder—if the higher ups there even saw potential in him. Now, though, he’s ready to fight to the death for a chance to debut with his best friend, as they’d always promised each other they would.

The anticipated evaluations marked a crucial moment to your character’s idol progression. Team A, B, and C, were slotted for the very first day of evaluations between over 30+ qualified trainees. With training reverting back to normal, your character, James Han, will receive an e-mail from Hydra Staff with the date and time for their formal interview. Dress code is business casual, and the interview place will take place in the Office Section of the building, led by Talent Consultant Jang Hei-ran and her team. They’ll be the ones relaying individual scores, remarks from personnel (CEOs, instructors, etc.), and as previously stated, providing next step strategies. It’s a hallmark moment that, admittedly, the company believes your character is ready for. The meeting will presumably last for half a hour or more, pending on dialogue.
𝐓𝐄𝐀𝐌 𝐀 will hear great remarks about the group’s teamwork, best overall within the six qualifying teams. “We were delighted to see a combined effort, the seven of you fit extremely well together. You were tasked with an upbeat hip-hop inspired track, and it was a uh, new genre our in-house producers were testing out. And there was a perfect synergy.” The compliment draws on and seems to be gearing towards that inevitable ‘but.’ “However, the overall mood should’ve been stronger in a lot of areas.” Heiran nods in agreement to her assistant’s words, having a few thoughts of her own and cuts in. “The team got us excited for the performance, and it showed you all were excited. How do you remember the performance?” The woman’s voice was pointed, yet her curled grin made her look pleasant at face value. A dichotomy between genuinely curiosity to know the trainee’s point of view, and accusatory, goading a response that could be neither right or wrong. “Hmm, let’s move forward to your independent results.”
“The first impression we received was your energy level was very high, you were a secret weapon / component to your group. Vetted judges were especially pleased by the smoothness/consistency of your vocal range.” Heiran seems to conclude her thoughts by leaning back into her chair, so her assistant stepped in, “Your results means many things; first, being your eligibility for the upcoming survival show and personal vouch for your attendance. Wonder Nation believes in your potential within this project. We will comment on honing your skillset, the pressure will double now knowing the strengths of your vocal abilities; make sure to show your best sides. Now,” they flip over a few papers to the trainee’s Global Audition notes. “We are aware of your audition to Kiss Studios, and we’re not here to sway your choices. We want to assure you that you’ll be able to choose wisely between the two — however, we’ll need a final answer in a week from today. You can contact our Consultant Team for any and all inquiries. We sincerely wish you the best luck.”

People would assume that because Mason was able to learn Korean when he came to this country, that learning another language would be a piece of cake. Nope. If it wasn’t a dance or a song or a new Overwatch hero, learning something new was hard. Plus, learning a new language at twelve and twenty one were two entirely different things.
But, kpop was big in Japan, and if he ever debuted, he’d want to at least be able to say “thank you for your support” in Japanese. So, here he was.
“Are you as excited and nervous as I am?” he asked Haneul, lightly tapping his fingers on the desk. “I feel like I’m back in school again, which... yeah, not a great feeling, but this’ll be different, right?” He hoped.

❝ 𝗶 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗳𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝘀 ❞ ―☆ 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 @hdmason ―☆ 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽
lee hwan is conflicted.
the announcement of the workshop has left hwan to debate whether he wants to assist for the producing workshop where his best and main interest lies at. it would have been good for him too to get inputs from other professionals. however the other part of him thinks he should be working harder on his dancing skills.
perhaps this once he decides it best that he listens to his head than his heart because he could really do with more improving on his hand to leg coordination.
it's half past nine when he gets to the dance studio where the workshop would take place and while he stretches to pass the time of waiting for the starting of the workshop, he scans around and notices a familiar figure.
for most part he's thankful that he would not be alone but it looked like mason had been busy until it dawn him that the latter had looked like an assistant ― is one if the tags says anything. hwan thinks it's incredible how his friend had managed to get a spot and how deserving it is. if hwan had been known for his composition then mason is definitely a trainee known for his dance skills that could even put shame to other existing idols.
it may have been that hwan comes off being biased but he's seen mason's dancing skill every now and then and with the recent upcoming evaluation for the raven-haired to know that mason is more than capable of teaching him, or anyone for that matter, in terms of dancing.
time passed and the workshop begins. hwan quickly catches the attention of mason before waving as a form of greeting before turning his attention to the main choreographer that would lead the workshop for the day.

ೄྀ࿐ 𝐃𝐑𝐈𝐅𝐓 𝐀𝐖𝐀𝐘
word count: 837 words
despite the emphasis from the Hydra staff that this interview was meant to be much more casual, aerin couldn’t help the way she was (quite literally) shaking in her worn sneakers. she attempted to calm herself by crossing and uncrossing her legs, clearing her throat to fill the silence, and biting her bottom lip that had long since lost the gloss she’d applied before coming here.
the staff, seated across from her and not at all meeting her nervous energy, appeared to be viewing her files and one of them would look up at her and offer a reassuring smile. it was sweet, though it did nothing to keep her from anxiously playing with her fingers.
in their defense, she’d been nervous since she had the first meeting following her audition tape submission. everything suddenly felt more real, then, when she was looking miss park jiwon in the eye and being told her debut might be closer than she thought. like she’d been living in a fantasy world where she could dip in and out between wanting the life of an idol and wanting to abandon it in favor of her true dream. as if she could spend years training alongside people who were desperate for the opportunities she was given, then drop out when she wanted. aerin had been childish and foolish, right up until the point she heard the words ‘debut candidate’.
“so, miss hong aerin,” one of the Hydra personnel finally broke the silence to address aerin, whose head shot up to attention as she was shaken from her thoughts. “as we’ve said, this interview is simply to gather your thoughts and feelings about everything– your potential debut, meeting possible teammates, and working on your own music. no need to be nervous, just tell us how you feel.” another kind smile, but it still only managed to make aerin’s heart race.
“ah, yes,” a pause, aerin’s eyes trailing around the room to avoid eye contact and making note of the camera recording from the corner. “well.. i have to say i wasn’t really expecting to hear that. to be honest, i feel that i am still.. lacking, in most areas…” she spoke slowly and unsure of herself, much like how she spoke when she first came to korea. even though she knew her parents native language, she always felt strange and like an outsider speaking it. just like how she felt here– an outsider. the only one here, possibly, that wasn’t living their dream.
“oh, please don’t think i’m not grateful for the opportunity, or-or i doubt the selection process,” realizing how she might sound, aerin quickly clarified her point and checked the staff’s expressions (they revealed nothing) to make sure she didn’t shoot herself in the foot. “i deeply appreciate being considered. i do worry that i might be a bit behind some of my potential teammates… i’ve been dancing my whole life almost so i am confident in that. but i haven’t been singing very long…and i’ve never tried to write or-or compose anything.”
her insecurities quickly overwhelmed her and spilled out the longer she talked, the illusion of calm shattered the more the reality set in. part of aerin just wanted to break down and cry, right here and now, and tell them she’d made a mistake and couldn’t do this. there was no way!! but she pinched her thigh and let out a small exhale, clearing her throat before speaking again with a smile.
“but, i am hopeful. i’m excited to meet my potential teammates. i’ve attended international school my whole life, my file mentions that i’m sure, so i’ve met a lot of different people. i’m also an only child, which makes me a little lonely sometimes so i would like to meet people i can call my family.” that much was true, and aerin couldn’t help how warm the thought made her feel. she’d always been well liked, but she didn’t ever have friends. there wasn’t time for them really, and she just never really felt… like she belonged anywhere.
“so i… i really want to improve. i want to get better at everything. dancing, singing, composing. i want to be a teammate that they can be proud of. i don’t want to ever drag them down.” aerin’s voice got more and more confident as she spoke. the tremble from before virtually gone, and she made direct eye contact with the staff who paused in their note taking to meet her gaze.
“no matter what, i will not ruin anyone else’s dream. i will do what it takes to make sure that no one suffers because of me. i will work harder to become a worthy teammate, and… a worthy idol.” aerin nodded firmly, and turned her gaze to the camera. she wasn’t sure who all would see it, but she wanted them to know she meant it. no matter what, she wouldn’t become a burden. she’s become better, for those who truly deserve this dream she’d stolen.

The first round of auditions brought over fifty attendees, vying for a spot in Kiss Studios’ upcoming projects. Twenty signed exclusive extended contracts with the label, and including a wider pool of already signed trainees, ten female trainees were chosen to start Debut Evaluations: your character. After the deliberation period, your character was e-mailed a formal meeting date to discuss the results of their audition. Kiss Studio Head of Recruitment, Park Ji-won, leads the meeting under Hydra’s main headquarters, on the upper, administrative floors. With her, their secretary and personnel staff to take notes and provide input, answer questions, and delegate the interview. A translator is on-call for those in need of assistance.
The three, much like most staff, hold true to decorum provide crystal-clear, although rather blunt, dialogue. “Hello!” She bowed, “Thank you for arriving punctually, we appreciate your effort. This is our first meeting, but I’ve been watching you very closely and my first goal was to fully assess your skills.”
The secretary in hand continues with an even stricter tone, “Now, there’s a lot to discuss. After evaluating your audition, we have plans to place you with a set of candidates under Debut Evaluations.” They let the words settle for a minute, watching for your character’s expression, and then proceed, “As a debut candidate group for the year 2023, there’s a lot of work ahead before any official news are made. In terms of skills, teamwork, and passion for debut, the company has decided to follow a different type of debut preparation. For the coming days, evaluations will be done with songs and choreographies made by the trainees - with the aid of coaches and instructors. We don’t believe idols can appeal to the public relying on only looks or skills. You’ll need to be an independent artist, with your own story to tell. It’s up to create the story others will gravitate to.”
This tasks is for Hong Aerin! They will go over more overview notes (skillsets), and the extended trainee contract to highlight the need for discrepancy. Debut candidates under 𝐊𝐈𝐒𝐒 𝐒𝐓𝐔𝐃𝐈𝐎𝐒 will have access on to the backdoor entrance of the company building, allowed mostly for artists and staff. They will also mark a second, casual interview, filmed, to weigh on your feelings about being a hopeful candidate. It’ll take place the following week after auditions are closed and should last for 15-30 minutes. In order to complete the Debut Evaluation Task, players will have to:
SOLO: Write a drabble (300+ words) about your character’s second interview. Take into account the news of a potential debut, feelings about meeting future teammates, and composing their own songs soon. The interview will be between your character and two Hydra personnel in a private training studio located on the lower floors of Hydra’s main headquarters, as well, Earn 25 POINTS to increase any skill on their point page or choose to collect.
Be sure to tag threads with #hd:tasks & #hd:global ! The deadline for threads/point submissions is February 5, 2023. Hush, Hush
Words: 739 (technically)
Tumblr media
Jihye could only hope that this meeting was what she thought it might be.
It had been enough time since her sending in her audition for the global Kiss Studios audition call, and she was constantly checking her email and texts to see if they had responded. When she finally got a response from a Kiss executive, she tried to keep her expectations manageable. This was a good sign, but so much could go wrong. Maybe this was a trap and she was about to get in trouble with Starlight for going behind their backs. Anything could happen.
Still, she made sure she would look her best, just in case this went well. Her liner was on point, her eyebrows perfect, and a soft pink to her lips; professional, but memorable.
She made certain to be early, feeling like being professional was the least she could do to show she was ready for whatever they might decide to throw at her. When she was ushered into the practice room, she took a deep breath and put on a small, but polite smile on her face.
“Hello!” She bowed, “Thank you for arriving punctually, we appreciate your effort. This is our first meeting, but I’ve been watching you very closely and my first goal was to fully assess your skills.”
Jihye bowed in response, then nodded in understanding, hoping the other saw something worth pursuing with her; she had been working hard for so long, she had to have something to show for it, right?
The secretary in hand continues with an even stricter tone, “Now, there’s a lot to discuss. After evaluating your audition, we have plans to place you with a set of candidates under Debut Evaluations.”
Debut evaluations. Those were two of the most beautiful words she had ever heard in her life. Jihye wasn’t a very expressive person, but anyone with eyes could see the excitement forming in her own. All of her hard work in these past years were finally paying off; all she had to do was audition for a company that would appreciate her talents. A smile did form on her face, a bigger one than most people ever got to see out of the young woman, but this was truly one of the happiest moments of Jihye’s life. She was so close, she could taste it.
Only a little bit more work to go.
“As a debut candidate group for the year 2023, there’s a lot of work ahead before any official news are made. In terms of skills, teamwork, and passion for debut, the company has decided to follow a different type of debut preparation.”
Jihye was nodding along, listening to every word very carefully.
“For the coming days, evaluations will be done with songs and choreographies made by the trainees - with the aid of coaches and instructors. We don’t believe idols can appeal to the public relying on only looks or skills. You’ll need to be an independent artist, with your own story to tell. It’s up to create the story others will gravitate to.”
Jihye was stunned. This wasn’t just a debut opportunity. This was an opportunity to debut with a song she personally had a hand in; this was perfect. “I completely agree,” she said after the briefest moment of silence as she processed the amazing words out of the other woman’s mouth. “And you don’t have to worry about me, I’ve been working on writing my own lyrics for years.” She considered for a moment taking her lyric notebook out of her bag to prove it, but thought against it; she needed to seem enthusiastic, but not too eager to please. She needed to keep her cool. “This is a dream come true for me. This is the exact kind of opportunity I’ve been hoping for, and I’m ready to show you my potential.”
With the final details settled, Jihye got up and bowed deeply, giving her thanks again before leaving he office and heading towards the subway. This was it. This was exactly what Jihye wanted, and she was ready to prove herself worthy of not only a debut, but a true artists debut.
Suck it, Woori.
It was only when she was on the subway back home did she realize she would have to be “friendly” and “likable” to the other girls being considered. So Jihye had to actually try to.. make friends.
Shit.

𝖆𝖈𝖙 𝖎𝖛, 𝖘𝖈𝖊𝖓𝖊 𝖎.
𝖘𝖞𝖓𝖔𝖕𝖘𝖎𝖘,  robby performs ❝ 𝖘𝖈𝖊𝖓𝖙 𝖔𝖋 𝖞𝖔𝖚. ❞ 𝖒𝖊𝖓𝖙𝖎𝖔𝖓𝖘,  possible mention of various people. 𝖜𝖔𝖗𝖉 𝖈𝖔𝖚𝖓𝖙,  written in roughly 𝟗𝟏𝟓 words.
it’s hard to reset after the events that just occurred, but robby tries his damnedest to get his head back in the game; taking a few steady deep breaths to slow his pounding heart. he can’t help but feel worried about his brother; slightly sick to his stomach about what this means for him. he’s crushed that jamie’s injury likely means that he’ll no longer be a candidate for début, at least in this group. this fucks up their whole plan, & as he’s prone to flare ups of anger as opposed to sadness, he feels heat rise to his face — silently scoffing at how jamie couldn’t just go through with the performance like everyone else. he just had to trip, & fall, & break a bone like the putz he is. breathing heavy, he remembers to focus on the air in his lungs & its patterns. robby tries not to be upset at his sibling. this wasn’t his fault, accidents happen, & he’s probably equally as heartbroken at the destruction of his chances. knowing that, robby’s livid that he can’t go & be by jamie’s side right now; that he can’t be there to offer his support while he’s getting patched up because he needs to stay & film. he still has himself to think about in terms of the competition, & as everyone gathers in their starting positions, he infuses the red-hot energy he feels into his limbs; knowing that he could use the adrenaline to pump up his dancing even more than usual.
as he sets the tone for the song, he waits at his mark, & when the first beat booms through the speakers, he leaps into action — his coveted footwork solo one that he practiced day-in-&-day-out to perfection. being trusted with that section of the song elated him so much, & the last thing he wants is to screw it up now that it really matters, because not only is this coming down to the wire for him personally, but now he feels like he has to kick even more ass for his brother — to make him proud.
keeping jamie in his mind as fuel, he adds seamless bounciness & groove to his small solo; ensuring that the camera is picking up each & every detailed motion of his feet. then, as the first formations are building, muscle memory kicks in & takes some of the edge off of his mind; his movements forcing him to break free from the worries spiraling about in his head so he can pay close attention to the task at hand. physical activity — dancing especially — continues to be a lifesaver for him, & there’s a sense of ease he feels as the stage progresses onward. certain moments feel awkward since they’re pushing forward with one less person, but overall, it seems like things are going as smoothly as they can. though, as his first vocal part approaches, he realizes that his cue lines were sung by jamie, & without him there, robby needs to pay extra close attention to the music; listening intently until he can hear when it’s time to start. as usual, singing is what he’s minimally nervous about, now more than ever since the lyrics are fully in japanese; a language he’s studying, but doesn’t feel comfortable with yet. thankfully though, he remembers all of the words he learned.
his voice works for this section as it’s rather high, & due to that, his intonation is great — improvements being made on other skills over the time he’s lived in south korea. it pleases him to know that working hard has taken him quite far in such a small period of time, & as he makes his way through the first chorus & the second verse, he finds himself smack-dab in the center of the formation for chorus number two; taking the stance seriously as he puts his own spin on the part that was first performed by jaeyoung. this time, he unveils his ( underdeveloped ) low range; adding his own speak-singing style to it so it’s easier for him to support the notes, the delicate rasp in his voice adding color — flavor. maybe it wasn’t as perfect as his first set of lines, but he isn’t too hard on himself. not all idols in the biz are impressive singers, after all.
robby’s self-aware enough to know that he’ll never be celebrated for anything other than dance, visuals, & showmanship, & he’s totally fine with that. there are other trainees in the lot that can cover the vocal work, the rapping, & even the composition of the songs. all he’s focused on is showing up & dancing — it’s as simple as that.
in what seems like the bat of an eyelash, he’s in his final pose; his chest rises & falls heavily due to his exerted efforts, the expression on his face is fierce & magnet, & the beads of sweat that have collected on his brow-line threaten to fall down the length of his cheeks, but he keeps poised so that they remain in place — hoping that what he did was more than enough to please those in control of the final lineup. for a brief second, he thinks about jamie, & hopes that he can rush to him after filming has commenced. robby cares about his success, but above all, he cares about his brother, & his health, more. despite everything else, jamie will always be paramount to him.

'chasing the scent of you' self-para mentions of @hdrobby & @hdsungho ❤︎
sebastian definitely considered himself lucky to have gotten so far. he knew compared tot he other trainees, he was way out of his depth when it came to this sort of musical genre. don't get him wrong, there was always time to enjoy something more pop-like, but his goal was never to be part of a group, but rather join a band; it was during times when they would practice in front of a huge mirror to get their movements perfectly precise and aesthetically pleasing that sebastian would pause and wonder just what exactly he was doing and playing at. clearly, he was out of his mind. dancing was something he did for fun, not because he had something to prove, and most of the time during the show his hands felt empty because they weren't holding his preferred instrument, touching his guitar or his piano.
he knew that in the back of his mind he was self-sabotaging, something he did when he felt nervous, anxiety building inside of him. imposter syndrome at times. he wondered if he actually deserved to be around so many people and if he should pack his bags and go back to focusing on songwriting. it was easy to fall back onto old habits, but he had friends this time around willing to keep him afloat.
vulnerability wasn't his strong suit, but only for a few small numbered of people would he allow his facade to melt away and show exactly just how he felt.
the worst was learning japanese. singing he could do. dancing, he wasn't horrible at, nor was he the best at. he was lucky he had robby around to correct him, gentle and patient as ever, he made sure his movements connected, and he looked aesthetically pleasing while doing it– 'what do you mean i need to dance on beat and look pretty doing it?' 'just copy what i'm doing, okay?' sebastian could be as stubborn as a mule when it came to things that didn't interest him, or simply things he refused to understand, but he supposed it was never a better time than the present to get his head out of his– anyways.
he was glad that they had someone helping them with japanese. though, sebastian knew that he would never be able to learn the language within such a short amount of time, never mind actually becoming fluent, accent still present when he spoke korean, he knew that it would be hopeless, but at least he could try to assimilate it as much as he could and try to make it sound good when he sang. it helped to have sungho around, made the tension in his shoulders lax as they stumbled around foreign words, trying their best to sound good. he didn't want to toot his own horn, but he found just the right way to manipulate his voice to make his accent come off as less thick, and more smooth.
so maybe the whole thing wasn't doomed from the start.
performance day arrived sooner than later, and sebastian felt nerves creep up on him as usual, but he forced himself to stay calm and collected. he was able to get in as much practice as possible, and when it came to his parts, he was able to show off his vocal skills and dance skills confidently; voice unwavering as he sung, and movements fluid, something he never really focused on or achieved on his own, he'd have to remind himself to bake his friends a whole cake for dealing with him for the last few weeks.
no matter what the judges say, he knew he did his best, and for the first time in a long while, he felt happy and proud.

━━ : 𝐎𝐇, 𝐓𝐄𝐀𝐑 𝐌𝐄 𝐃𝐎𝐖𝐍  ( I MEAN THAT, I NEED THAT ) .
DATED:  early february 2023 FEATURING:  canon npc’s ! WORD COUNT:  1,270 NOTES:  coming off a nightmarish week, but writing minseon is my means of catharsis ♡  formal interview 23Q1 !  ( cw, as always:  self-loathing, maladaptive daydreaming, compartmentalization gone wrong )
MINSEON IS TIRED OF BEING ALONE. It’s a development that seems, from an outside perspective, prompted by long evenings spent stretched in solitude, a lack of consequence in time ( minutes, hours, days ) burned studying his reflection in the mirror, counting the bones in his rib cage, the moles scattered like stars across the expanse of his skin—  And… it’s not an entirely incorrect assumption to make. Following the quarterly evaluation, he’s found himself already missing the structure of a team, missing the feeling of running together towards something, rather than running alone from…  something else.
And, well. That’s where sympathy for his plight begins to run a bit thin.
Because for as long as he can remember, Minseon has planted secrets within himself, kept knowledge of his whereabouts hidden from his own eyes. Too many mornings he’s come to, body aching, dull discomfort in the back of his head, with the awareness that he’s done things the evening prior but is left with no memory of them. When he finds time to lick his wounds, he’s haunted by the understanding that they are self-inflicted, that there is a…  creature living inside him that he’s all but fed by turning a blind eye to it and its exploits.
And… Minseon would have continued to refuse responsibility, plead ignorance of it, if its existence did not begin to manifest in his dreams, then his waking hours.  — It eventually reaches a point where it begins to collide into him, interrupt his quiet life, shake him from his sleep, until finally, he’s forced to reckon the truth that he’s run so fast and so far from himself that he hardly recognizes that this creature in the mirror is his own reflection.
So, he’s tired of being alone. But more than that, he’s tired of being alone with himself.
MINSEON SHIFTS A LITTLE IN HIS SEAT.  The training studio is still, but not in the way that he likes. There’s a stiff, brittle sort of air about it that seems to encourage feelings of unease. He’s prepared for this tension, though, managed to dress himself in a pressed collared shirt and fitted slacks, straightened his posture, even, before he entered the room. He’s been looking forward to this interview since he received notice of it, and he tells his current company as such when they first greet him in.
The consulting team takes their time opening up the discussion in an official capacity; Minseon does not mind the exchange of pleasantries, but it’s clear he becomes visibly on edge when things finally begin. He’s happy to hear that his group as a whole has received high praise, but his expression remains pleasantly neutral throughout the debrief, only returning a smile when he is offered one. He does not miss the way the majority of their feedback is framed to commend their individual talents, and when asked about his feelings working with the team, he knows that the question is pointed. He carefully considers his choice of words, wets his lips before speaking:
“I felt… more sure of myself with the team than I would have on my own. … Truth is, they made me better.” His eyes briefly fall to the floor before they skip back up again, regarding each interviewer in measured thought. “Think it’s rare for any group to avoid tension, ‘specially at the start.  — ‘s… good to have disagreements, I think. Good to have differences in opinion. Think we all learned how to work with each other to put on the best performance that we could.”
He is met with a polite smile that he reflects.
They move on to individual scores.
He shrinks.
Like a shadow shies from the sun, he’s spent his latter years always at the edge, the outside looking in. So when formal training for the quarter began and he pushed himself into taking center position of his group, Minseon had felt… terrified. As practice sessions carried onward, he convinced himself that this was his penance for flying too high: That his fate was to burn.
— Except, as it turns out, it… wasn’t, and he didn’t.
With this performance, he proved that he could emerge into the light without cowering from it. In fact, by the song’s conclusion, he felt like he’d almost managed to eclipse the light entirely. And… it was such an inviting idea, to find himself capable; it was compelling.  — So compelling, in fact, that Minseon began to torment himself, wondering if he could reach this high ever again. After the evaluation, he plunged himself headfirst into practice, eluded sleep through the night, enveloped himself in his work when he could think, left curious visitors short-lived souvenirs ( tender bruises, kiss-swollen lips ) when he couldn’t.
And all the while, his head continued to echo a bewildering refrain: WOULD THEY TURN TO LOOK AT ME, WOULD THEY STILL LOVE ME IF MY SHADOW SWALLOWED THE SUN?
( It’s a mouthwatering notion, and Minseon’s appetite is voracious. )
He pulls himself from his thoughts with an apprehensive shudder, realizing with a start that his hands have clenched themselves into fists, tense and white-knuckled. A large part of him, the part with an unfortunate propensity for self-sabotage, silently pleads for misfortune. He’s not sure this is a fever he can sweat out on his own, so he solicits an intervention—
… But he’s left unanswered.  ( Maybe his fate is to burn. )
Following the disclosure of his results, Minseon’s eyes widen, and he quickly ducks his head down into a long, gratified bow. The word ‘hunger’ is used in an observation, and he almost has to bite back a laugh at how stripped it makes him feel, the way everyone can see through to him so easily—  He’s remarkably pleased. When he lifts his head, there’s a feral curl to his lip. No longer pleasantly neutral. No longer polite. Veritably him.
The consulting team continues reviewing details regarding the new survival project and Minseon’s role within it. They broach the topic of his placement as a ‘brand option,’ and a small noise of disbelief catches in his throat. He raises both eyebrows, processing. This decision is immediately grounded in the evaluation results, he understands, but he can’t quite fathom the thought process behind anyone wanting to see… more of him?
The team continues with words of advice: “Study your surroundings. Know a teammate’s next step before their feet move.”
And then suddenly, Minseon is awash with light— white hot and blinding.
“The company will watch you with sharp precision.”
When his eyes adjust, he is standing center stage against a sea of unrecognizable faces. Every eye is fixed upon him. He says, “Watch me, then.”
And… though he’s surrounded by spectators, he’s alone again. Again, alone.  — His hands are cold, he doesn’t remember the last time they were held, and he’s so tired of having to count the time in between ( days, months, years ).
The Boy— the creature— his voice echoes from somewhere stage right: “Just remember that I’m stuck with you too. I’m stuck with you too…”
He closes his eyes.
.
When he opens them again, he’s sitting in a studio with a stiff, brittle sort of air about it that seems to encourage feelings of unease. He rises from his seat, hands in his pockets, posture poor but looking more certain of himself than he has the entire half-hour. “Thank you for your time and your… confidence in me.” His smile grows somewhat sharp. “I won’t let you down.”

The anticipated evaluations marked a crucial moment to your character’s idol progression. Teams A, B, and C, were slotted for the very first day of evaluations between over 30+ qualified trainees. With training reverting back to normal, your character, Kang Minseon, will receive an e-mail from Hydra Staff with the date and time for their formal interview. The meeting will presumably last for half an hour or more, pending on dialogue.
𝐓𝐄𝐀𝐌 𝐁 is met with hesitant stares, lengthy greetings to feel the emotions of each male presenting trainee. Heiran answers each sentiment with a leveled reply. “This team proved to be outstanding in terms of skill. From a listener’s perspective, we wish the rappers were given more parts; the foundation really came from them. Ultimately, the vocals cast a large shadow on the other teams; the ranges were consistent and quite appealing to the ear.” Her eyes light in excitement. “Personally my favorite team to watch.” The positive comments may warrant a smile, laugh, or brief response, then the leading assistant is quick to interrupt, “It was a strong overall performance; there were massive comments about how well the concept matched individual strengths. In light of such recognition, while practicing, the instructors gave us notes about all team practices. How do you feel working in a team?” They proceed with individual scores after given answers.
“The center position was quite befitting; the company saw a hunger beneath your glances that couldn’t go unnoticed.” Heiran nods along to her words, “It’s true, the tape we saw demonstrated acute dedication, and your several coaches raved about your skillset. It was eye-catching.” The consultant gives her own vetted opinion and looks briefly to the right for the assistant to carry on. “There is room for improvement, but it places you at an desirable mark. The survival project for male trainees under Wonder Nation you signed up has been accepted for entry, and we’re delighted to see you participate. With your scores, we’ve decided to place you as a brand option for the show; this goes towards any visual opportunities, from screentime to promotional footage. As your present consultant team, the best advice to give is to study your surroundings, know a teammate’s next step before their feet move. This outstanding score means the company will watch you with sharp precision during this project. We sincerely wish you the best luck.”
This task is for Kang Minseon! Formal Interviews traditionally go over more overview notes (skillset critique) and the extended trainee contract to highlight the need for discrepancy. Your character is now a Debut Candidate under 𝐖𝐎𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑 𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 and will have access to the backdoor entrance of the company building, allowed mostly for artists and staff. In order to complete the Debut Preparation Task, players will have to:
SOLO: Write a complete thread (300+ words) about your character’s second interview. Take into account the results, potential debut news, feelings about meeting fellow contestants, and having to be on their best behavior. The interview will be between your character and two Hydra personnel in a private training studio located on the lower floors of Hydra’s main building. Earn 25 POINTS to increase any skill on their point page or choose to collect.
Be sure to tag threads with #hd:tasks & #hd:eval! The deadline for threads/point submissions is February 13, 2023. Please, do not post mod submission until thread is completed. The thread should be placed above the divider and under a ‘read more’ if not already placed.

— open starter | a concussion isn’t what she expected out of the trip. yet here she was with a minor concussion after a not so gentle fall down the slope. she thought she was better at skiing then she obviously was. she wouldn’t being skiing again this trip. which means she was sitting in the lounge of the resort enjoying a quiet night in. she held a mug of hot cocoa in her hand and sipped it with one bud in her ear. she want with a white mocha cocoa because she wasn’t in the mood for cocoa. she was binging a drama while she had the time. with training she never really had the time to keep up with her dramas. by the time she got home she was exhausted. k-dramas have become a guilty pleasure of hers. she first started using them as a way to learn korean. it was a way for her to forget the world.
she hears a loud bang coming from beside her. she looks up to see someone standing in front of a pile of broken glass. “glad it’s not me.” she says huffing and taking another sip from her mug. she looks up again when she feels the presence of someone else bedside her.

[ smile, stupid ]
HYDRA RECORDING STUDIO — [ JAN. '23 ] Jamie and SON TAEGYEOM take part in the Vocal Workshop …
If there's one thing Jamie prides himself on, it's his voice. He knows that while he lacks a lot in other areas, notably those requiring organisational skills, and time management, he exceeds when it comes to singing. So, when he's given the position of assistant for the vocal workshop he's thrilled to say the least. It feels like people are finally recognising his abilities, and giving his opportunities to further prove himself. It's a tad daunting, if he's being honest, being given responsibilities, and there's a little voice of doubt at the back of his mind, telling him he can't do it because he's too much of a mess.
Jamie ignores that voice as best he can, and instead focuses on Taegyeom, who he's going through some lyrics with before he gets his turn in the recording booth to see what recording is really like. "At this part you should smile a lot, because you'll be able to hear it in your voice, but no one will be able to see the stupid faces you make, so it'll be super good!" He explains, making a pencil mark under a specific line on the sheet of lyrics they're poring over. "This is exciting, isn't it. Y'know... I hope we debut together. I think our voices go well together, and us, plus a couple other boys are like... the top vocals among the boy trainees."
"I'm excited to hear you sing." He tells him, looking to the booth where another trainee is working through a portion of a song with the producer, singing the same line over and over until it sounds good. "It's kinda tedious... to be honest." He whispers, leaning over to Taegyeom, hoping no one else hears him.
