EA-Match Two-Storey Walls by hazelnutter100
“This may be setting some kind of record for ‘longest time taken to make required changes’. I first submitted part of this set in mid-October 2016, when I was very new to wall creation. I’d been working on it for a couple of months and solved a few problems but the walls were still far from seamless. I thought it would probably take longer than a few days to get them to a good enough standard and asked to resubmit them later instead of trying to make the changes right away. I didn’t realise then how much longer it would take . I returned to the project at intervals, trying out different ideas, but without making any real progress. Eventually, I gave up. Then, in August this year, I got back into making walls and started doing some serious experimentation.

Lakeside Park (big park) by hazelnutter100
"Lakeside Park was built as a replacement for the Town Center in Twinbrook. It still has most of the original red oak trees, together with the fountain and statue, although the statue has been relocated to a corner of the lot. Maybe it’s a former dignitary who has now fallen out of favour a little… The lot started off as a compilation of childhood memories of various parks (and one stately home) but has been evolving over the past few months, either because things (notably the aviary) didn’t work or because townie Sims showed no interest in them."

Small Victorian Villa by hazelnutter100
"A small detached house in the Victorian Gothic style. The current owners, fans of Victoriana, are keen to restore original features, while keeping the convenience of some of the modernisation carried out by their predecessors (a bathroom and utility room have been squeezed in, and a driveway with car parking spaces added). They have uncovered the original tiled garden path and hall flooring, and used reproduction wallpapers and fabrics to return the hall and parlour to something like their original state. The remaining rooms are more of an eclectic mix, awaiting the funds for a full restoration. Price: §69634 furnished, §42202 unfurnished

EA add-ons: French panelled walls by hazelnutter100
"This started out as a single additional wall but it got away from me a bit… The ornate French panelling from World Adventures is perfect for grand, formal rooms, which are generally highly symmetrical. So why does the asymmetrical dual-panelled wall only come in one version (with a narrow panel on the left and a wider one on the right)? I made a second version of the wall, with the panels swapped over (not a straightforward mirror image, since the trim at the top of the wall isn’t reversible). Then, while trying it out in a room, I noticed curly edges of panelling sticking out from under paintings and mirrors and spoiling the general effect. So the set grew to include versions with only one of the upper panels, to frame wall decorations, and with only the lower panels (single or double), to accommodate larger paintings or whole walls of ancestral portraits. All of the walls based on the dual-panelled original come in both left- and right-handed versions. There’s also one with just the cornice, skirting and chair rail, which is useful for walls around doors and large windows, or in case you want some ‘quieter’ areas of wall, without panelling. Like the original walls, these have four recolourable channels and can be found under panelling in the catalogue. Those with both upper and lower panels cost §10, while the plainer ones are §8. There’s a single preset, which matches the existing EA walls.

Darer Farm Rebuild by hazelnutter100
"In-game description of 27 Herring Ranch Road, Twinbrook: Loft / 1 Bath - Although the original farmhouse was incinerated a few years ago, the encroaching swamp saved the barn. Undaunted, the eccentric owner has made the barn into a livable if not luxurious space. I’ve played Juan Darer once or twice, and made minor changes to his home, but it wasn’t until earlier this year, when one of my Sims visited his house for an opportunity, that I realised how great the location is, with possibly the best views in Twinbrook. (Incidentally, how did the swamp manage to ‘encroach’? It must be at least a hundred feet below.) So, many Sim-years after Juan’s death, I bought his house and rebuilt it for the family I’m currently playing. The exterior of the barn has been left unchanged, apart from being cleaned and re-roofed. The interior has been redesigned to house a gym, an art studio and a workshop downstairs, and two bedrooms upstairs. The rest of the house was dictated by the shape of the existing foundations and by having once been a farmhouse. So it ended up as a rebuilt traditional farmhouse, with a kitchen/family room downstairs and the master suite (complete with sitting room and home office) upstairs. An extension in a more modern style, with large windows to make the most of the views, provides space for entertaining, while a second, narrow, extension links the house and barn. The pond has been drained and the spawner removed, since the same fish are available in the lake. Price: §151274 furnished, §86955 unfurnished Content used: Ambitions and Generations are required. There are quite a few build and buy items from Seasons and University Life. You could manage without them but the number of swaps needed might get irritating. Everything else could easily be substituted or omitted.

St Simeon’s – A Country Church by hazelnutter100
"This is a church zoned as a graveyard, partly because I wanted a Sims cemetery that was peaceful rather than creepy, and partly to try incorporating the base-game mausoleum into a larger building, using Simgrassalidale’s matching roof. I originally tried to do this by having the mausoleum accessed from inside the building but couldn’t manage it while still having a reasonably church-like interior and sensible proportions overall, because of the amount of free space required in front of the mausoleum door. So there’s a very inauthentic door at the east end."

Zero-Calorie Gingerbread House by hazelnutter100
"A small Christmassy build. This was intended to be a starter home but it ended up going over-budget, even unfurnished. The fireplace and cooker have been upgraded to fireproof and all of the plumbing to unbreakable – we wouldn’t want the gingerbread to get burnt or soggy . The screenshots were taken in Hidden Springs, on a small lot placed instead of the Shoreline Cabin. Price: §28262 furnished, §17291 unfurnished.

Old Signal Box (starter home) by hazelnutter100
"A disused signal box converted into a characterful starter home or holiday cottage for the train enthusiast. It has a double bedroom and a bathroom downstairs, while the living area is upstairs in the former operational area, to take advantage of the views through the large windows. The room retains two of its signal levers as décor, even though the mechanism is long gone. The toilet on the balcony replaced an earlier outhouse and is still in use, although it has been enlarged and can now be entered from the living area without going outdoors. In a nod to the vanished past, the mailbox has been painted to resemble an old semaphore railway signal."

Ha’penny Cottage (starter home) by hazelnutter100
"A one-up, one-down country cottage for the green-fingered Sim on a tight budget*. A dilapidated brick outbuilding has been repaired and extended to join the cottage, providing space for a tiny kitchen and bathroom. The old-fashioned garden has fruit, vegetables and herbs jumbled in with the flowers and is regularly visited by butterflies.
*This just barely qualifies as a starter home for a single Sim. Those wishing to have more than §3 to spend on food, books, classes etc. might want to lose some of the furnishings temporarily or downgrade to the cheap bath."

Trade Winds by hazelnutter100
"This is very much a companion piece to the Anchor Inn, although the original version of the house predated the pub by a couple of years. It’s been rebuilt twice since and lived in by several families of Sims. The layout’s stayed much the same throughout but the décor has changed, with the nautical/seaside theme becoming more pronounced over time as I’ve acquired more expansions and store content. It was originally built for 432 Tidal Terrace in Barnacle Bay but also fits well into several other worlds. The house has a living room, kitchen-diner, study and shower room on the ground floor, with five bedrooms, three bathrooms and a nursery upstairs. The outbuilding houses a gym, sauna, art studio and all-in-one bathroom. Price: §196501 furnished, §95719 unfurnished

Fix for wall with crown and baseboard moulding and trimmed border by hazelnutter100
"The base-game ‘wall with crown and baseboard moulding and trimmed border’ has an irritating darker patch at the right-hand end of the border. Being present in both the multiplier and the specular, it shows up particularly with pale colours and shiny finishes, like the white and pale blue presets in the paint section of the catalogue. Oddly, the border of the similar wall with a dado is fine.
There’s also strangely textured patch in the middle of the wall, again affecting both the multiplier and specular.
While sorting out the image files, I realised that the mask doesn’t line up exactly with the multiplier (most obviously at the top of the border in the blue preset), so I fixed that as well."

Modified EA wall with twisted motif crown moulding (baseboard replaced) by hazelnutter100
"Dealing with another annoyance here…
I’ve always liked the base-game wall with the twisted motif cornice/crown moulding, apart from its skirting/baseboard. As well as protecting the wall finish, a skirting’s supposed to be there to tidy up the edge, so that the plaster can stop short of the floor, making the plasterer’s job a lot easier. So why does that wall have the main wall colour reappearing below the skirting? I tried just changing the mask so that the skirting colour continued to the bottom of the wall but that looked wrong (and still left the problem of that weird vertical line in the middle of each section). At this point, it occurred to me that the skirting from the wall with the egg-and-dart moulding had a very similar rounded bead but with surrounding detail that made it look a lot better. So I remade the twisted motif wall with the egg-and-dart skirting.
Like version 2 of the wall with the plain high dado, this is based on a barn wall and exports/imports uneventfully as part of a sims3pack house.
There’s a single preset, shown in the main picture, and it can be found in the paint section of the catalogue, at the same price as the original wall (§7)."
