Chapter 1: the Harley Experience

Day one, level three. Orik the tired completes the basic starter quests for beginning dwarves. The basic shit. Fetch and carry. Kill x amount of creatures. You know the drill. At this point, I’m just here for the small tidbits of story and am desperately trying to stay out of everybody's way. Orik the Tired is squishy. Orik the Tired does not want to die.

Suddenly, a distant roar echoes through the valley. It was a bunch of high level player characters on motorcycle mounts. Lets call them the Harley Gang.

Yes. Those monstrosities.

The Harley Gang circles in on Orik the Tired. Orik the Tired, being squishy, leaves the main path and cuts through the trees. Orik the Tired thinks that the Harley Gang is just trying to get through, so I try to stay out of their way.

Orik the Tired is wrong.

The Harley Gang’s purpose isn’t to get to place to place. That’s not why they have motorcycle mounts. No, the Harley Gang exists for one purpose only: harass low level player characters.

Orik the Tired spends the next ten minutes being bombarded by the Harley Gang. My field of view? Obstructed. My audio? Awash with the roar of their motorcycles. My quest progression? Halted.

Orik the Tired humors them for a minute or two. Orik the Tired thinks that they will get bored. Orik the Tired thinks that they will leave me alone.

Orik the Tired is wrong.

Orik the Tired changes tactics. Perhaps talking with the players will get them to leave him be.

Orik the Tired: my dudes

Orik the Tired: my dudes why

Harley Gang member #1: do you like our rides

Orik the Tired: yes very nice

Orik the Tired: I would prefer it if they weren’t on top of me

Harley Gang member #2: wait are you a streamer

Orik the Tired: ah, no, I am not

Harley Gang member #2: good

Harley Gang member #2: we don’t follow streamers

Orik the Tired: well that’s very polite of you

Orik the Tired: but you are still harassing me

And so it continued. Talking with the Harley gang had no effect. If anything, it heightened their interest in following Orik the Tired as I tried to complete basic tasks. At one point, I simply stopped moving for several seconds. This was met with concern.

Harley Gang member #1: are u ok man

Orik the Tired: well, I seem to have a motorcycle problem.

Orik the Tired’s patience had worn thin. With a final farewell, I decided to exit the game.

Orik the Tired: well, this has been great

Orik the Tired: have fun bugging the next rando

Orik the Tired: goodbye, all

And then, with cries of ‘don’t go’ and ‘lame,’ Orik the Tired left the game.

Orik the Tired is tired. Goodbye, Harley Gang. You were weirdly polite. Perhaps our paths will cross again. Thus ends this log.
