can you post what all the results to the quiz are & what charas they have? im just curious to see the answers to what i didn't get!
ok so ill probably add to this slowly but time for some stats and answers and stuff! obviously dont check this out if you dont wanna be spoiled (thread)
first, here's the actual amounts of each results people have been getting:
Tumblr media
when i say i had NO IDEA we'd get so many chuunis....watching the numbers go up the first few days felt like a fever dream haha
but its comforting to know that everyone is cringe and free! i for one welcome our new gothy overlords!
i was also really surprised that gimmick idols got some of the lowest scores 😭 the space that spans is so wide so i was expecting way more people to get that result since i figured it'd catch a lot of people, but i guess you guys are rare!
---
now its time to look at the archetype list:
Tumblr media
this was pretty tricky, especially cause i was working on the quiz for funsies at silly o clock in the morning for two nights while i was dealing with some sickness induced exhaustion lol. i wanted to include more (a few like the princely type nearly made the cut), but I found there was
1. a lot of crossover between archetypes (this even happened with some of the idols i chose for the results image!!! hanayo being average idoltwt user AND a harapeko type or minori being average idoltwt user AND fake it til you make it for example)
2. some archetypes that were only based on visuals or not on personality at all
3. kind of lowkey paradoxical (eg. someone might really fit the princely type, but often in idol shows they make it so that trait is pushed on them, but they secretly wanted to be feminine all along, which like, ok but then if someone actually fits the princely vibe I'd be slightly struggling for examples and we'd get all tied in knots unfortunately)
4. the amount of answers was already getting so long that if i added any more it'd start getting difficult to come up with more answers for some of the more concrete questions (like what you'd do post graduation etc)
...so I had to kind of draw the line somewhere. especially cause i thought like 3 of my idoltwt mutuals would take it and that's it 😭 maybe I'll make a part 2 or a more extensive quiz later who knows (guess who just remembered the 'rock is life' type idols and screamed into a pillow for only just remembering...)
---
so the idol archetype categories themselves are DEFINITELY things I've picked up on in multiple series, altho they may require a lil bit of explaining so I'll quickly summarise each one when we go thru the characters. i should probably mention that some of these (like the chuunibyou) are word for word archetypes that people use all the time, while some were just me trying to put words to the character types so the wording was just a descriptor (fake it til you make it queen), altho i hope they were useful! ive seen a few people online using these terms after taking the quiz which is super cute...🙇 let's take a look at these categories shall we?
(note: i have varying levels of familiarity w these characters, i wanted to make it reasonably varied and recognisable but some of them i kind of just knew what category they fit and that's it)
---
THE CHUUNIBYOU
Tumblr media
to those who don't know, the chuunibyou is a pretty popular archetype beyond just idols, and tends to refer to people who are stuck in or going through their 'edgy phase'; chuu-ni being short for second year of middle school syndrome (think like, 13 or 14 year olds), but the general vibe tends to be associated with emo or goth phases, claiming to have an evil eye, being or being a servant of Satan, hiding a secret shy or self conscious side with edge, yaknow. average tween behaviour. it's not limited by age tho especially in anime media! one of the examples i used is a 26 year old grown man with a job. never too late!
Like with a lot of the other categories it was really hard to narrow down the results page characters, but from left to right:
1. Todo Yurika from Aikatsu!
Tumblr media
Yurika takes being a lifestyle lolita to the next level, being a gothic lolita and punk idol with the chuuni character of a vicious vampire, which she desperately tries to keep up as part of her career, only letting people see her quiet nerdy self once in a blue moon. She has a secret soft spot for garlic ramen and sings some of the best songs in the entire series (which is an achievement cause aikatsus songs are god tier).
music rec (won't do this for everyone, only ones i know well, but pls feel free to fill in the blanks in the comments/reblogs!): check out Glass Doll, Onegai Venus and Eternally Flickering Flame! She has two singing voices over the series, both of which are incredible.
2. Asselin BB II (Asselin Beelzebub the Second) from The Idolm@ster SideM!
Tumblr media
Asselin is a genius chef in his mid-twenties that ended up on the streets being kicked from countless jobs because of his ....quirks. He's a chuuni through and through, and its something a lot of the people around him didn't know how to handle, but when he gets taken in by Cafe Parade (both an idol group AND a real life dining establishment) to be their chef, he finally finds a place where he belongs. He's goofy and crazy while simultaneously being an introverted and nervous personality, and claims to be a servant of Satan, which just happens to be an adorable plushie that he carries around for comfort and finds difficult to be without, who gets painstakingly dressed up in matching outfits whenever he's included in a card! Don't be fooled by his softness though, this servant of satan has PIPES. You may recognise his voice, as he's played by well-known seiyuu Furukawa Makoto.
music rec: check out Waga Konton no Sabbath Marriage to immediately ascend, or Reversed Masquerade for a taste of the full CafePa experience.
3. Tsushima Yohane from Love Live Sunshine!!
Tumblr media
Probably the most famous on the list so I'll keep it brief! She's been at this chuuni business since she was a little girl, so she encountered a lot of loneliness before joining Aqours, but she's got a cute and clumsy personality and has a tendency to yell about being a fallen angel. She's an absolute sweetheart, despite claiming that she's angered God himself, and is always there at the scene to deliver an edgy pose or stunning vocals.
music rec: check out Kowareyasuki and Strawberry Trapper for peak Yohane vocals, honestly Guilty Kiss in general should be mandatory listening homework

the journey to type ran from urusei yatsura
Tumblr media
There is no type named "Randere" yet, but I'd think it would mean "random" so I don't really want to use it
Nominations
Bitch in Sheep's Clothing, The Fake Cutie, ... masquerading as 'moe' but lacking the true personality basis for 'moe' ... spiteful, takes what they want; helps themself, therefore doesn't accept help from others
"Yandere" is derived from the Japanese words yanderu, meaning insane or sick, and deredere, meaning affectionate or loving. Sometimes associated with Borderline Personality Disorder.
Yangire is a combination of the two words yanderu (病んでる), meaning to be sick, and gire (切れ), meaning to cut, slice, or "to snap". Yangires are Yanderes who can snap at any moment from jealousy or irritation without the motivations of affection/love for another character. Cute in both appearance and mannerisms, nice and friendly at first, then suddenly become horrible and aggressive. Typically resorts to violence. Sometimes associated with Paranoid Personality Disorder or PTSD.
"Dorodere" refers to a character who acts cute and sweet on the outside, but is actually full of 'muddy' feelings, such as grudges towards others, including the love interest. It is the inverse of Tsundere. Not necessarily violent.
Bonus
"Amaigire" is a term used for characters that turn aggressive and murderous because of sweets. Example: Spongebob Squarepants - Chocolate Guy I'd maybe argue that Stocking from P&S applies here.
"Tobokedere" is a variation of Bakadere that pretend to be stupid. Example: Mob Psycho 100 - Arataka Reigen
Kimokawaii is the combination of kimochi warui (bad feeling) and kawaii (cute).
"Tsunshun" is a term used for characters that are harsh/mean on the outside, but depressed/fearful inside. They intimidate others to insure solitude.
This is cute.
Rei is Harapeko Chara & Ahodere, Mendo is Bibiridere & Oujidere, and Sakura is Miko. Ataru's type doesn't matter, he is a clusterfuck of non-moe tropes.
Lum is a whole whopping combo of: Coodere, Kekkondere, Onidere, Biridere, Kiredere. Occasionally Yandere/Tsundere/Deredere tones.
Deduction
Dorodere is generally more suitable for Ran because she's more grudge-obsessed than love-obsessed. However, her grudges are love-related. Yangire by itself without Yandere is not love-related. Dorodere would imply that Ran is capable of welling these negative feelings up inside without suddenly snapping (not exactly in the way of Yangire or Bodere, but definitely something like -Gire). Her signature trope is snapping suddenly while talking to Lum. Yandegire is a fusion of Yangire and Yandere. Ran fits Yandegire, if not for the 'completely psychotic killer' reputation of the term Yandere.
Tropes Fall Short
There is not a broad variety of Yandegire characters. Discerning between 'Yandere' 'Yangire' and 'Yandegire' types in media is a brittle pursuit. A softened Yandegire term does not exist. If there exists a love interest, and they plot to destroy what others have in order to obtain what they want, it's basically all labeled and mailed off as Yandere. And somehow, Yandere always equates to "utterly violent and psychotic," and Yandegire is seen as a more intense Yandere: the calm and calculated serial killer with a split personality.
Ran is calculated, but not always calm. She bursts into rage and wallows. The wallowing is typical of Doro-, and bursts of rage are typical of -Gire. Ran is not depicted as essentially homicidal or mortally brutal, thus subverting the common Yandere/Yangire stereotype. The genre associated with Yandere is not compatible with the UruYat formula. She did attempt to drain the life energy of her rival's lover, which is premeditated homicide, however there is a difference in intention. Ran is indeed conniving, two-faced, and spiteful. But her plots are generally based in self-gain sabotage, not a taste for blood. Ran doesn't inherently believe she needs to harm others to get what she wants.
Conclusion
Disregarding allegations of homicide, Ran fits all of the below:
Borderline Personality Disorder
Yangire - "Ran tends to act very cutely in public. She shows a sweet, child-like if not even elegant side when she is happy but when she becomes suspicious or even angry her personality turns into complete opposite. When she was a child she was usually violently punished by her mother which could have traumatized Ran to develop her split personalities. She shows her anger and suspiciousness towards Lum, who she believes wants Rei back."
Yandere - "Ran is desperately in love with Rei and is jealous of Lum, as Rei is in love with her."
Yandegire - Ran will appear nice and accepting, but suddenly snap into aggression, and plot to sabotage others to get what she wants, relating to love or grudges.
Dorodere - Ran will appear nice and accepting, but secretly struggles with a lot of hateful feelings and grudges towards others, even people she loves.
Ran is Ran. But just for fun I attempted to make up a conjunctive type just for her: Kireuradere.
Kireuradere - derived from the Japanese words kireru (キレる), meaning to get angry; to snap, and ura (裏) which means reverse... but can be related to urami (grudge; malice) urame (opposite of the expected; backfire)... and urusei! (annoying!) ... followed by ~dere (lovey-dovey) Can also be written as 'Uragire' 'Uradere' I guess? I tried my best to make it not string together in a bulky mass like "Yanderedorogire" but not too short that it loses the complexity of Ran, like "Uragire" for example.
Also this is hilarious:
Ran (ラン, Ran, meaning Orchid, or Civil war)

All Non-Dere Anime Tropes
Aho
Though these characters tend to be outgoing and energetic, they unfortunately lack common sense. Despite that, they are nonetheless adorable. They are a non-dere version of a bakadere. Aho is a word meaning “stupid”.
Aidoru
Aidoru characters are either famous or simply just popular people who love to sing and perform. They are charming characters who maintain a good image and reputation.
Bifauxnen
Bifauxnen are women who look like handsome men, literally. Bifauxnen is a combination of the Japanese word “bishounen” which means pretty boy and the French word faux which means fake.
Bokukko
They are the tomboys of anime. They tend to have a confident attitude and are often highly competitive. Unlike bifauxnen, they act more boyish and childish, while a bifauxnen is more noble and sophisticated. Unlike orekko, bokukkos are more energetic than masculine.
Bukako
Bukako characters set their emotions aside as they believe that may interfere with their job of serving their masters never questioning the latter. They tend to be quiet unless spoken to and very obedient. Bukako means “servant girl”.
Chibi
Chibi characters are usually the shortest in the group, which is often why they’re rarely taken seriously. These characters cry often and they are almost always forgiven for their mistakes.
Chikyūgai
These characters aren’t usually from Earth, so they can have weird and exotic appearances depending on the character. Chikyūgai is a Japanese word for “extraterrestrial”.
Cool Beauty
Cool beauty characters are level-headed and graceful. They are either misunderstood characters or are very popular. They carry themselves high and are confident in themselves.
Chuunibyou
These characters have an exotic belief or a grandiose delusion that they have special powers/abilities or hidden knowledge. This term roughly means “middle school second-year syndrome” so it mainly affects early adolescents.
Chuugokujyo
They are characters who tend to wear Chinese dresses and know martial arts. Though not all Chuugokujo are Chinese. Chuugokujyo came from the two Japanese words “Chuugoku”, which means China, and “ojyo” or “ojou”, which means lady.
Dameko
Unlike hetare, dameko characters can manage on their own. They simply prefer to spend their time on vices such as gambling or excessive drinking. This type of character is irresponsible.
Dojikko
A dojikko is bascically a clumsy type. Despite their efforts, they wind up tripping, dropping things, or misspeaking. They're either oblivious or embarrassed by their constant mistakes or misfortune. Dojikko means “clumsy girl”.
Donkan
Oblivious yet also sceptical, these characters often mistake your love confession as a joke and so they laugh in disbelief. These people can either be dense or cynical, likely both. Donkan means “oblivious”.
Eronna
This type of character is overflowing with sex appeal. They tend to be mature and a mentor of some sort.
Fudanshi
Fudanshis are men who enjoy reading/watching Boys Love, or Yaoi. They have a similar personality as an otaku, except this is added with some fanboying over boy x boy anime/manga.
Fujoshi
Fujoshis are women who enjoy reading/watching Yaoi, or Boys Love. They have a similar personality as an otaku, except this is added with some fangirling over boy x boy anime/manga.
Genki
Genki are loud and excitable characters. They are energetic and highly optimistic. They're a non-dere version of a deredere.
Hakase
These characters are rarely seen without their labcoats. They often spend their time creating their inventions. They are one of the most intelligent characters out there.
Haraguro
A haraguro character is one who acts friendly and innocent in public; however, this is a front to hide their darker, despicable personality. They tend to be negative and cynical.
Harapeko Chara
These characters are the foodies of the anime world. And with their abominable appetite, they will eat large amount of food just to satisfy themselves. Harapeko Chara literally means “hungry idiot”.
Hetare
You need to always keep an eye on them because they basically can’t do anything on their own. They make other characters help them every time before they face their own problems. Hetare literally means “helpless”.
Ijimekko
Ijimekko are the bullies in anime. They spend their time bullying the protagonist but may befriend the latter over time. Ijimekko means “bully”.
Imouto
Imouto characters look up to others, mostly their older brother/sister. They tend to view their senpais (someone at a higher ranking) as their role models. These characters almost always ask for help.
Kawaiiko
They are cute characters who act childish most of the time. They also tend to wear cute clothes. Kawaiiko means “cute girl”.
Kimoiko
These characters are seen as weirdoes and outcasts of the anime world. Since they lack social capabilities, they tend to do things the norms will find strange and disgusting. Despite this, they are really good to talk with if you managed to break their shell and understand their views.
Meganekko
They are girls who wear glasses. This type is considered soft-spoken, yet also very smart. They tend to be quite introverted and prefer to seek internal stimulation. They often recharge by reading a book.
Neko
Refers to anime characters who have cat ears and are cat-like in nature. They are a non-dere equivalent of a nyandere.
Nisetoshi
Nishitoshi characters are decades or sometimes centuries older than they appear. They’re often portrayed as pre-teen individuals (they’re legal if 18+), however, few of them appear like young adults. Though they often act younger than their age, there are some rare occasions when they act their age.
Ojousama
Ojousama are the stereotype graceful ladies. Unlike the himedere, they will less likely boast about their wealth and are generally more polite. Kind, graceful and wellspoken. Though they’re sometimes naive.
Orekko
The man up versions of bokukko. Orekko characters are female, yet highly masculine characters. They tend to have a really masculine point of views and ideals.
Osananajimi
They are childhood friends of another character. They are more concerned about others than themselves and prioritize friendship over romance. They are often kind, patient, and selfless.
Otaku
Otaku characters are mostly anime and manga fanatics, but they can obsess over other topics too. Most of them hide their hobbies. But to the ones who are proud of it, they are really talkative and love to voice out their interests.
Otokonoko
These characters are boys/men who look like girls/women. They are the opposite of bifauxen and are very kind and soft-spoken characters.
Sukebe
They are the perverts of anime. These characters would either nosebleed, fantasize, or they really love dirty jokes. Sukebe roughly translates to lewd.
Tsunpure
A tsunpure refers to a character who are overly honest with others, but rarely honest with themselves. They usually treat people harshly right before asking for a favor and have pure hearts. They're often pure-hearted and gullible, and can put up a front but spill what they're thinking without realizing it.
Tsuntsun
This type of character has a harsh and cold exterior, and rarely show anything besides their harsh side. While they may have a soft side, they’ll still often hide it from the people they’re close to. They are a non-dere version of a tsundere.
Tsunshun
This type of character starts of with a harsh and cold exterior as a front. They use it to protect themselves from pain as they are emotionally vulnerable or untrusting of others. They also act harsh to hide their depression. If they have a love interest, they would be a shundere-tsundere hybrid.
Yamato Nadeshiko
This type of character is the ideal japanese beauty and wife. They uphold family values and partake in traditional activities. They're polite, patient, and loving.
Yangire
This type of character is manipulative or violent, not because of love of another, but simply for themselves. They take pleasure in the chaos or pain that they cause and don't care much about the feelings of others.
