"This part focuses on the happy hungry bunch stumbling across a girl from kai who possesses insane strength, a kind warm heart, and breath taking beauty, a beauty on par with goddesses. In a short span, she joins the group and before long, it was as if she always BELONGED to be with them. Things couldn't stir up even more when the guy, shin ah, our blue dragon, least expected to experience love and feelings of this sort, irresistibly falls in love with her. But the real question is, 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗵𝗲𝗿?"

A chill ran down yona, she was terrified by the intent to kill that the blue eyes displayed.
"𝑤ℎ𝑜 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑦𝑜𝑢?!"~ 𝑦𝑜𝑛𝑎
The person made a gesture with his sword, as if he were asking the group to follow behind him. It sort of felt like he was leading the way. Out of curiosity, jaeha asked to follow him, and after they reached an intersection pathway, hak's cautious nature wouldn't allow him to follow such a dangerous stranger. Kija, with mutual feelings as hak, rushed forth without thinking, and snatched the cloak from this unknown figure.
Everybody was dumbfounded to the core. Beneath the cloak was a girl, around the age of yona, with striking beauty, totally opposed of the personality she displayed infront of them a while ago. She seemed rather girly, as her apparel were very ornate and colourful and she wore expensive earrings of jewels. Before anybody could regain their composure- she interrupted
"𝐹𝑜𝑟𝑔𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝑚𝑒 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑠𝑢𝑐ℎ 𝑎𝑛 𝑢𝑛𝑠𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡𝑙𝑦 𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑟. 𝐼 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑏𝑒𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑝𝑢𝑟𝑠𝑢𝑒𝑑 𝑏𝑦 𝑏𝑜𝑜𝑟𝑖𝑠ℎ 𝑠𝑜𝑙𝑑𝑖𝑒𝑟𝑠 𝑓𝑟𝑜𝑚 𝑘𝑎𝑖 𝑠𝑜 𝑖 𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑑𝑎 𝑑𝑖𝑑𝑛𝑡 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑎𝑛 𝑜𝑝𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛. 𝐼𝑚 (𝑌/𝑁). 𝐼𝑡𝑠 𝑎 𝑝𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑠𝑢𝑟𝑒 𝑡𝑜 𝑚𝑒𝑒𝑡 𝑦𝑜𝑢", she smiled as she introduced herself to the group. Her bright and cheery look and smile, totally making them feel whatever they saw before was a mere hallucination.
"𝑠ℎ𝑒 𝑙𝑜𝑜𝑘𝑠 𝑙𝑖𝑘𝑒 𝑎..𝑑𝑜𝑙𝑙. 𝑂ℎ 𝑚𝑦 𝑔𝑜𝑑 𝑠ℎ𝑒'𝑠 𝑠𝑜 𝑏𝑒𝑎𝑢𝑡𝑖𝑓𝑢𝑙" yona thought.
"𝑖 𝑐𝑎𝑛𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑏𝑒𝑙𝑖𝑒𝑣𝑒 𝑤ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑖 𝑎𝑚 𝑠𝑒𝑒𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑟𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡 𝑛𝑜𝑤...𝑡𝑒𝑙𝑙 𝑚𝑒 𝑖 𝑎𝑚 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑑𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑔" ~ yoon
" 𝐴 𝐺𝐼𝑅𝐿??? 𝐴 𝑆𝑀𝐴𝐿𝐿 𝐺𝐼𝑅𝐿 𝐾𝐼𝐿𝐿𝐼𝑁𝐺 𝑇𝐻𝐼𝑆 𝑀𝐴𝑁𝑌 𝑆𝑂𝐿𝐷𝐼𝐸𝑅𝑆 𝑂𝑁 𝐻𝐸𝑅 𝑂𝑊𝑁??!!" exclaimed kija as the astounded hak noded in awe for the strong skills and swordsmanship this young girl possessed.
"𝐸𝑥𝑐𝑢𝑠𝑒 𝑚𝑒..𝑖𝑚 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑠𝑚𝑎𝑙𝑙. 𝐼 𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑛𝑒𝑑 18 𝑡𝑜𝑑𝑎𝑦 ℎ𝑚𝑝𝑝ℎ" (𝑌/𝑁 ) 𝑠𝑎𝑖𝑑 𝑎𝑠 𝑠ℎ𝑒 𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑝𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑙𝑦 𝑝𝑜𝑢𝑡𝑒𝑑.
Jaeha soon rushed to this beauty to make a prince like introduction while zeno rushed in with him out of excitement of meeting someone new. Shin ah stood behind in silence, he hadn't spoken a single time since seeing her. The moment he had laid his eyes on her, something happened inside him, an overwhelming emotion he never felt before. Was it just because of her elegant beauty? Because he had never seen a girl this pretty? Or was it because it was the beginning of his first awaited love story? 𝙷𝚎 𝚑𝚊𝚍 𝚗𝚘 𝚒𝚍𝚎𝚊. Within minutes, Y/N (you) mingled with the whole squad due to your hyper active happy go lucky nature, exactly like zeno's. Yona was very happy to find a fellow girl her age after ages, and your gossips would never end. Over all, everyone seemed to be pleased to have you and before long, they had forgotten that they met  Y/N (you) only a few hours ago that day. Before that, to them, she  was a complete stranger.
Dinner time soon arrived, night fell shortly as kija, zeno, hak, jaeha, yona, yoon, shin ah and Y/N (you) gathered around the fire to taste yoon's delicious treat.
Y/N ( you) suddenly approach shin ah, with a curious expression-
" 𝑖 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑠𝑒𝑒𝑛 𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝑜𝑓 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑝𝑒𝑜𝑝𝑙𝑒'𝑠 𝑓𝑎𝑐𝑒𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑔𝑢𝑦𝑠 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑠𝑜𝑜𝑜 𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑡𝑡𝑦 𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑡𝑡𝑦. 𝑊ℎ𝑦 𝑑𝑜 𝑦𝑜𝑢, 𝑖𝑛 𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑎𝑟, ℎ𝑖𝑑𝑒 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑓𝑎𝑐𝑒?? 𝐴𝑟𝑒 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑎𝑠 𝑏𝑒𝑎𝑢𝑡𝑖𝑓𝑢𝑙 𝑎𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑚? 𝐼𝑚 𝑠𝑜 𝑐𝑢𝑟𝑖𝑜𝑢𝑠 𝑡𝑜 𝑠𝑒𝑒 𝑤ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑙𝑜𝑜𝑘 𝑙𝑖𝑘𝑒. 𝐶𝑜𝑚𝑒 ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒- 𝑙𝑒𝑡 𝑚𝑒 𝑡𝑎𝑘𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑚𝑎𝑠𝑘 ℎ𝑒ℎ𝑒"
".....Nᴏ...I...I...ᴅᴏɴᴛ.." shin ah quickly stepped back but my god, before long both of them got engaged in a childish combat, one reluctant to show his face and the other DETERMINED to see his face.
"𝚜𝚎𝚒𝚛𝚢𝚞𝚞 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚢/𝚗 𝚊𝚛𝚎 𝚜𝚘 𝚜𝚝𝚞𝚋𝚋𝚘𝚛𝚗, 𝚑𝚊𝚑𝚊𝚑𝚊. 𝙸 𝚌𝚊𝚗𝚗𝚘𝚝 𝚠𝚊𝚒𝚝 𝚝𝚘 𝚜𝚎𝚎 𝚠𝚑𝚘 𝚠𝚒𝚗𝚜 𝚒𝚗 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚎𝚗𝚍" ~𝚣𝚎𝚗𝚘 𝚜𝚊𝚒𝚍 𝚊𝚜 𝚑𝚎 𝚎𝚊𝚐𝚎𝚛𝚕𝚢 𝚕𝚊𝚞𝚐𝚑𝚎𝚍 𝚊𝚝 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚋𝚘𝚝𝚑"

"..ᴅᴏɴ'ᴛ ʟᴏᴏᴋ..ɴᴏ"
Y/n (you) finally grip shin ah's mask after struggling for a long while and shin ah who quickly takes notice, grabs your hand and pushes it in an attempt to free your palms from his mask. But he mistakenly grips and ends up pulling your hand with a lot of force as a result of which you  trip and fall right into his lap. Luckily, due to the impact, his masks comes off and what is to follow 𝙞𝙨 𝙖 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙚 𝙝𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙗𝙤𝙩𝙝.
You and shin ah are now only a few centimetres apart from eachother. He's gripping your hand very tightly, your heated bodies pressed against eachother as you look into his intense golden blue eyes. You feel his breath on your cheeks, unable to move both because you are captivated by those eyes and because your faces are so close, one little movement and your lips would be touching his. You can hear your heart ringing in your ears as you feel your body lean against his warm and manly chest. Your legs are tangled up in his, and before long, you dont know why, a desire to stay 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙘𝙡𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙝𝙞𝙢 takes over you. Shin ah looks at you, with dilated pupils, shocked by this unpredicted event that led you guys in this intimate position. This is his first time seeing someone from so close up; he, totally mesmerized, scans through your ocean blue eyes, your flowy braided dark brown hair, your flustered cheeks that he wants to 𝙠𝙚𝙚𝙥 looking at. As soon as his eyes meet your lips, he regains his senses and pulls himself away from you, looking away in an intent to conceal his blushing red cheeks, that have reached till his ears. He hurriedly puts his mask back on because he doesn't want you to realize the way he is feeling about you. He doesn't want you to realize that for a brief second, he wanted to pull you 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑛 𝑐𝑙𝑜𝑠𝑒𝑟.
"𝑠𝑜 ℎ𝑜𝑤 𝑑𝑖𝑑 𝑎 𝑙𝑒𝑡-𝑚𝑒-𝑠𝑒𝑒-𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟-𝑓𝑎𝑐𝑒 𝑓𝑢𝑔ℎ𝑡 𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑛 𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑜 𝑠𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑆𝑂𝑂𝑂𝑂 𝑟𝑜𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑐 𝑚ℎℎ𝑚𝑚?;)" said jaeha pulling shin ah's leg. Jaeha seemed to be making fun of him for amusement but you couldn't be more thankful that he broke the intense silence for you couldn't catch your breath again due to abnormal way your heart was throbbing from the bitter sweet incident.
"ᴇʀ...ᴜᴍᴍ..ɪᴛ ᴡᴀs ᴀɴ ᴀᴄᴄɪᴅᴇɴᴛ.." murmured the flustered as hell dragon. The topic ended a fair 20 minutes later when everybody had finished teasing you both, taking full delight in doing so. Even yoon teasingly giggled at you both.
A few months had passed since you joined the group. You love their company, they feel like a family to you. And ofcourse, this whole time you have been observing and looking at your precious shin ah. Youve been noticing his likes and dislikes, his slighest gestures, and you would never let an oppurtunity go to waste when you could take a peek of his breathtakingly beautiful face. Your feelings for shin Ah, your over flowing feelings of love for him were so great that they became outwardly evident to the people around you. Maybe it was the way your mouth curved into a fulfilling smile as you watched him eat, or how you were flustered everytime he even walked beside you. Everyone realized, except shin ah that you were irresistably in love with this beautiful man. Your every second, every breath had been dedicated to this precious person.
" 𝑌/𝑁 𝑖𝑛 𝑎𝑛𝑦 𝑐𝑎𝑠𝑒..𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑖𝑛 𝑙𝑜𝑣𝑒 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑛 𝑎ℎ?" hak and yona asked you in a teasing manner.
""𝚎𝚛𝚛..𝚠𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚊𝚛𝚎 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚜𝚊𝚢𝚒𝚗𝚐....𝚒𝚝𝚜 𝚗𝚘𝚝-..."
""𝑇ℎ𝑒𝑛 𝑙𝑒𝑡𝑠 𝑡𝑒𝑠𝑡 𝑖𝑡 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑠𝑒𝑙𝑣𝑒𝑠 ℎ𝑒ℎ𝑒𝑒𝑒𝑒. 𝑆ℎ𝑖𝑛 𝑎ℎ 𝑘𝑢𝑛, 𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒 ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑎 𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑡𝑙𝑒 𝑏𝑖𝑡" -jaeha

Shin ah walks in, oblivious of the whole situation, his usual innocence painted on his face"
"𝐶𝑎𝑛 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑤𝑟𝑎𝑝 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑠 𝑎𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑑 𝑌/𝑁 𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑛 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑎 𝑠𝑒𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑑"
" 𝑊𝐴𝐼𝑇 𝑊𝐻𝐴𝐴𝑇 " you try to say but your words cease to come out of your mouth the moment a confused shin ah grabs you from behind, his hands around your waist, enclosing you in a cute side hug
"ℎ𝑚𝑚. 𝑆ℎ𝑖𝑛 𝑎ℎ 𝑘𝑢𝑛 𝑝𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑠𝑒 𝑏𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑠 𝑎 𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑡𝑙𝑒 𝑢𝑝𝑤𝑎𝑟𝑑𝑠."
"ʜᴜʜ...ᴡʜʏ?"
𝐽𝑢𝑠𝑡 𝑑𝑜 𝑖𝑡"
Oh. My. God. You can't breathe anymore. You can feel your body lean against him from the side, his arms enclosing you from behind with his hands wrapped directly below your chest. He's holding you very gently, as if he is holding something fragile. You feel his mildness and warmth but your face feels like it will burn any moment from the heat.
Worried after seeing your face, shin ah worriedly turns you in his direction and lowers his face "ʏ/ɴ..ᴀʀᴇ ʏᴏᴜ ᴏᴋᴀʏ? Yᴏᴜʀ ғᴀᴄᴇ ɪs sᴏ ʀᴇᴅ..ᴀ ғᴇᴠᴇʀ?"
Without a second's delay you slap his face out of uncontrolled anxiousness and pull away, and run off in the opposite direction. What else could you do? He was again so close to you, the second time since ths night you met, and this time, much worse because now for sure you know you are in love with him. His face from close up..is like a dangerous weapon to you, his golden captivating eyes, his soft blue hair covering his forehead, his cheeks and his whole face..they could penetrate through your heart any moment.
"sʜᴇ sʟᴀᴘᴘᴇᴅ ᴍᴇ..ᴍᴀʏʙᴇ..sʜᴇ ʀᴇᴀʟʟʏ ʜᴀᴛᴇs ᴍᴇ"

"𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑔𝑒𝑡 𝑖𝑡 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑤𝑜𝑛'𝑡 𝑔𝑒𝑡 𝑖𝑡. 𝑌𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑒 𝑤𝑎𝑦 𝑡𝑜𝑜 𝑑𝑒𝑛𝑠𝑒 "said hak as he patted shin ah's shoulders.
Shin ah had been feeling the same way about you. But he does not realize it. He knows for sure what he feels for you is something he has never felt before in his life and sth far greater than everything he has ever felt in life. He notices everything about you, the way you smile, the way you talk, the way your gorgeous hair flows in the wind, everything. You are his favourite art. He looks at you with so much awe and admiration its as if you are god's greatest masterpiece. He gets so jealous seeing you interacting with other men, even if they are his friends. He cant help but feel this way. It makes him so sad and tears him from within to be apart from you. He just wants 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙮𝙤𝙪. Shin ah just wants you to be 𝙃𝙞𝙨. He curses himself from feeling so selfish but he has no control- he has never loved anybody so deeply like he loves you. Just like you, on the first day he had fallen in love with you, and 𝙛𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣 𝙞𝙣 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙖 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙚𝙮𝙚𝙨.
But you are unaware of it all. How can you know? He keeps his face covered and talks so less its hard for you to even feel noticed by him. Both of you are so in love, yet both of you have no idea about the vast ocean of emotions you guys make each other drown in.
another week of obliviousness passed.

Shin ah's heart ripped in two at this sight. Even though kija is just a friend to you shin ah can't control his pain anymore. He had always been so insecure about himself, he has never felt good enough for anybody. He always suffered thinking whether you would prefer a more extroverted and bright person and he who didn't know about your feelings for him thought kija would be someone more fitting and maybe you love kija? There's no reason not to. His dragon brother is so elegant, he's as charming as a prince from some fairy tale, so radiant. You take off his mask and it makes your heart instantly feel so heavy. The devastating look on his face breaks your heart. "𝑤ℎ𝑎𝑡 ℎ𝑎𝑝𝑝𝑒𝑛𝑒𝑑?"

Akatsuki no yona chapter 195: youtube comment I’m proud of: Part 3
I think your struggling because your looking for a clear bad guys who is in the wrong but all of them are multifaceted. like soo-won. he is the man who killed his uncle infront of yona and who had been prepared to kill yona after betraying hak's trust by sneaking people in there and after looking yona in the eye and giving her a pin while knowing he would cause a scar on her heart knowing she had a crush on him. the person willing to sacrifice people, go to war, manipulate and scare other countries. do all of it for revenge or personal reasons. and is only holding back getting rid of them because yona and hak have allies and soo-won doesnt want to make more enemies. does he have no care for the dragons and just want people power...but he was willing to hold a tournament just to see their powers in action, let yona feel humiliated in the seat and let his advisor tell his people to throw the match. or is he a guy who genuinely loves and cares about yona and hak, wanted them to live. who only killed the king because he wanted to save the country. dude is ALL of these things at the same time.
We are seeing this intimate softer side of yu-hon from seeing him from yon-hi's perspective. yu-hon is a good prince who loves his dad and family and his country. the dude looks down on his brother even though he loves him to and gets irritated at others looking down on his bro. the dude doesnt think things through entirely(remember when he ate the boor meat or the burning the priests). rather than coming out of nowhere our first impressions of yu-hon was from the tidbits we learned over all the chapters. that he burned and drove out the priests. that he chopped off the heads of prisoners he was supposed to saftly release. that the dude was more into wars that we learned through yona never really has winners since some towns were used to being part of different countries all the time. and that he was the popular one to be king. we know yu-hon was bad at getting across his real feelings or understanding her hurt his brothers feelings and while prince il could think about ho yon-hi was feeling uncomfortable at times and showed consideration..yu-hon was pretty bad at reading yon-hi was uncomfortable with letting him near her home. she eventually properly warmed up to him of course. but even she heard the rumours of the scary prince before she met hi even though she forgot after seeing his cute side. but that agressive side was always there. the dude already resented aving to bow to the priests and resented his bro prayed rather than hang out and do manly stuff by bashing it. trying to get il to think hanging with the bro would be more fun rather than asking nicely. the dude is brutal and efficant with his enemys and we knew that going in from how he treated people he fought. that people didnt believe his son wouldnt be war hungry like he was and prepaed for war as soo as il died.
it was shocking because it was easy to get caught up in good loving side that yon-hi got to see that we forgot about that darker part of him. like if war happened alot back in the day and the dude was a soldier than it makes sense yu-hon has this mentality of us or them. and he considered the priests as a type of enemy in different ways. strengthen by them figuring his wife out which went against his promise.
I think the maid probably remembered it because the priests have alot to do with the dragons and king hirryu which is the story that kaashi talked to yon-hi about again which brings to mind the priests. and then of course we know yon-hi is rather passive. she doesnt really make requests and it was surprising that yon-hi didnt know about the burning woman and children rumour was real to the main. it makes sense to me the maid might remember that because it was one of the few requests and while the maid said i is probably too late she probably did still check just in case later and assumed death. everyone knows about kaashi's burn scar. though admittedly its definitely very convenient for the plot. XD
love how you reacted to little min-soo XD
and how your voice and face dropped when kyk-sook showed up XD
I think yon-hi calmed down after she moved because of stress. stress in the body actually can trigger hereditary diseases to awaken in real life and the castle she had been associating with alot of guilt over the priests, with prince il and especially kaashi along with shock over finding out yona is real and the dragons origin was legit and more importantly future vision existed with kaashi. not to mention she had spent time hiding her sickness for a long time. and she got overly distressed about yu-hon losing his place as next emperor and blaming herself or yona to some degree. before she left the castle she found out kaashi didn't resent her. and il apologized for his behavior and admitted he wished things were better. that he wishes for her good health and saying she was not at fault. kaashi telling her to live a good life. and then she could just focus o getting better. may of the sources of her stress were gone once she left the castle so it makes sense she had been feeling a little better. though it is ironic that yon-hi felt better after leaving the castle tht makes the dragons feel better...but to be fair the original hirryu did eventually die or sleep from his ow disease in that castle and they are relatives of him.

Analysis of Hak’s character and his relationship with Yona or something
I feel almost alone when saying this, but I find Hak a kinda fascinating character with the way he was written. I have no idea if Kusanagi did it on purpose, but he was written almost to resemble a deconstruction of your average wish-fullfilling love interest character. Before his character development, he started off embodying a lot of common love interest tropes; overprotective, seemingly untouchable by emotional trauma (and therefore, someone who will always serve as walking emotional support, meanwhile needing nothing of the same in return), prone to physical advances... but as the series went on, those traits became something of flaws and/or were revealed to have deeper influencers than originally thought.
His overprotectiveness culminated in both himself and Yona nearly being killed by Taejun’s soldiers, and ultimately he has to come to terms with the fact that he can’t protect Yona from everything by himself. As such, he agrees to teach her archery and later swordsmanship. By the end of the Awa arc, we see a new character trait emerge from this; an attraction and pride in badass Yona. He no longer wishes to stifle her in an attempt to protect her; he wants to let her grow.
As for being untouchable by emotional trauma... well, for the longest time he never seemed nearly as broken up about Suwon as Yona was. Very, very angry, of course. But I never expected the bitter, broken rage he flies into in chapter 91 until it happened, and as a reader, it made me realize Hak wasn’t as okay as he pretends to be. It wasn’t that he was untouchable by the trauma, or “too manly” to be hurt. It was that he had a habit of suppressing it, so he could fulfill that role of emotional supporter without having to unload any emotional baggage on Yona, and the result was realistically unhealthy for him.
But the trait that really makes me wonder if he was meant to be a deconstruction is his dynamic with Yona, and the way he tried to make romantic advances. These advances were A) something he did as an attempt to make his feelings known because he’s established as a character who has trouble conveying serious emotions verbally and B) portrayed as largely ineffective in both attracting Yona and conveying what they meant.
The manga provides a reason why Hak tends to take a physical route to making romantic advances. It’s not because he thinks it’s ~sexy~ or because he thinks it’s what would work the best for someone like Yona; it’s his inclination due to his personality. He’s not great with words; Yona’s commented on it a couple times, and if someone (Jaeha) pisses him off, he’s more likely to throw a punch than say anything. Even when he had his break-down with Suwon, he went straight to kill-mode. He didn’t say a word until Jaeha and Kija held him back from attacking, and even then, what he was saying was largely incomprehensible. Imo, it’s portrayed that Hak is physically affectionate because he doesn’t know how to be verbally so.
Additionally, Hak and Yona’s romantic relationship remained mostly static so long as he used this method to convey his attraction. Their friendship had grown plenty, but their romance really wasn’t much closer to mutual than it had been at the castle. The physical advances; the attempts to kiss, the kabedon... none of it did a thing for Yona. She wasn’t really repulsed or bothered by it, but she wasn’t attracted to it either. She was only ever confused by it, dismissing it all as teasing when it was meant to be genuine.
When asked to stop, however, he does. As far as he’s concerned, when Yona asked him to halt his “jokes” in chapter 63, he had been rejected. Sure, Yona may not have realized the meaning behind his advances, but she expressed discomfort with it in that moment, and so Hak does actually stop. While the scene itself is mostly played for laughs, it also marks a change in Hak’s behaviour--next time they share a romantic scene, Hak is the one to pull away and mention that he promised to stop his “jokes”.
And maybe I’m overthinking it, but I can’t help but notice any real development in their romantic relationship begins right after Hak agrees to stop “joking”(like I mean the literal next page). As in, Yona is actually, on an attraction level, aware of Hak. She’s blushing from looking at his face, she’s self-conscious sharing a bed with him where she used to be completely unaffected. The next day, she’s unconsciously bothered watching women fawn over him, whereas she didn’t care at all when she caught him in a brothel back in Awa.
Fast-forward to chapter 110, in which Yona comes to realize just how strong her feelings for Hak have grown. What triggers the realization? It’s not a near-kiss, not any of the physical advances Hak used to employ to convey his love... it was his words. After she gifted him the lapis necklace and wishes him protection, despite how hard it is for him, Hak actually opens up and verbally acknowledges his affection toward Yona. He thanks her, earnestly telling her that his greatest happiness is her happiness. And with it, Yona too realizes she loves him.
Hak personifies many love interest tropes, but the manga frames it in such a way where those tropes are not played straight. They’re instead presented along with the realistic consequences and/or influencers someone who actually had such a personality might face. It takes some wrongly romanticized tropes, and instead of them being Hak’s static personality that Yona and much the audience is supposed to find attractive, they are the starting point--the flaws--in which he later develops out of.
This is merely speculation of mine; again, I have no idea if this is what Kusanagi intended with Hak as a character, but this is certainly my interpretation of him and part of the reason I love his character so much.

Because war is never simple
A look at the cultural and political situation surrounding Yuhon’s war crimes.  tl;dr: Yona is trying to accomplish what Hiryuu could not.
Now that we’ve heard about Kouren’s experiences as a child, the fandom is very quick to write off Yuhon as a monstrous character, guilty of all kinds of terrible war crimes. Kouren has good reason to be upset that he is still remembered in Kouka as a hero.  We know that Soowon admired Yuhon, and it’s anyone’s guess how much he knows about Yuhon’s war crimes. I think it’s a pretty safe bet to say that he knows a lot, and what with Soowon’s willingness to go to war to intimidate the surrounding countries, it doesn’t bother him much. According to Soowon’s moral code crimes like regicide are justified, so perhaps he thinks Yuhon’s actions were justified.  It may be easy to write off Soowon’s forgiveness of war crimes as a child’s admiration compounded by whatever traumatic events may have surrounded Yuhon’s death, but I have to wonder what Geuntae’s take on it is. Geuntae, a man enthused by battle, also admired Yuhon. He likely has more perspective on what the circumstances were there and why Yuhon chose to behead prisoners and mock the losers of the war by tossing them back to Xing. How likely is it that Geuntae, as a young soldier, was involved?  Geuntae, regardless of his involvement or distance from this incident (and perhaps many others like it, given Kouka’s previous inclination toward frequent war), is respected as a war hero throughout Kouka. If Geuntae were involved in war crimes (as defined by the victims, though as the saying goes, it’s the victors that write history), how aware of this are the common people? Perhaps there was a time in Kouka’s proud history when people cheered at the victorious tossing of heads back to Xing? In the current time, is this common knowledge to anyone with enough interest to look into the history of their heroes’ exploits in war?
Geuntae, manly and decorated in war, is the object of Lili’s modern day admiration. She has a certain fascination for displays of bravery and might. How about her moral code? Lili’s primary cause is justice and betterment for the Water Tribe. If someone is going to hurt someone she loves or threaten them, then she can justify killing them. If she lived in a time period when the tribes were at war with one another, she would probably spare no mercy to those causing pain to her people, even if they were fellow people of Kouka. Depending on how it was framed to her, would she see the execution of prisoners of war as justified, had they committed enough crimes themselves against her people?
Shocked though Yona and Hak were to find out about Yuhon’s crimes against Xing, they already have a bit of a personal bias. They were both close to Il, not especially close to Yuhon (Soowon’s betrayal certainly doesn’t help). Even though they have witnessed how unsuccessful Il’s peaceful approach wound up being, they respected his philosophy and commitment to it. They have both displayed that they are willing to use force when necessary in order to protect vulnerable people of any nation.  What’s more, Yona is Hiryuu’s reincarnation. Hiryuu, also willing to use force, lamented that a world without war may be impossible. Now we have history repeating itself, the red dragon is at odds against war--and its seemingly endless necessity--yet again. The odds are stacked against Yona. If she seeks Lili’s help first, Lili is still going to have to think for herself when she hears what is at stake--after all, besides saving Yona’s family, an attack from Xing would happen uncomfortably close to the Water Tribe’s borders. Furthermore, given Lili’s history of proactively taking action with little hesitation over the consequences (such as stealing the Water Tribe seal, a severely punishable crime), she may be more anxious to deal with that threat swiftly instead of taking any chances on peace. Lili cares about Yona and wants to help her, but she also wants to gain her own objective understanding of Soowon. With a matter as big as this, she might not base her opinion totally on Yona’s.  Even if she gets Lili’s help to meet with Soowon (narrative-wise this is a safe bet, though perhaps not necessary depending on Ogi’s actions), it’s already pretty obvious that this is ridden with potential difficulties. But let’s say Soowon, the ever unpredictable, does decide to try to make peace with Xing. Soowon may run into domestic challenges with this. Geuntae, for instance, may not be pleased, especially since making peace with Xing may require condemning Yuhon’s actions and tarnishing his legacy. Ju-doh, with his “kill it now before it comes back to kill you later” approach to threats might also disapprove.
Ah, but this is Soowon, who probably wrote the Kouka-version of “How to Win Friends and Influence People (in High Places).” He’ll probably find some way to win all the generals to his outlandish cause. However, let’s remember that getting his power from the people is a big deal to Soowon. A really, really big deal. The common people of Kouka might also have bitter memories of war with Xing; they might resent land Il handed back to Xing. They might not want to squander Yuhon’s illustrious victory over them, even if Soowon, his son and the king, tells them to be happy with it. I don’t expect them to be happy with a peaceful approach to Xing so long as it’s Soowon leading it instead Il. Yes, they have more hope in Yuhon’s son, but there’s still a long way to go before they give Soowon the power--the faith and confidence in him--that he’s been trying to instill in them.  So, Yona...  Kouren’s right. What can a Princess on the run hope to do, not only to persuade her treacherous cousin, but also an entire culture instilled with the values of maritime valor?  Will Yona accomplish what Hiryuu could not?
