Happy 75th birthday to futurist visionary and king of the sexy robot pinups Hajime Sorayama! Heavy Metal was fortunate to feature this master’s work on the cover of our November 1981 issue and on more than one cover of our October 2021 issue—that’s nearly 40 years later. From his beginnings as an obscure erotic-sci-fi artist to today, @hajimesorayamaofficial has become a major cultural force, and we’re honored to have been a part of his success. We can’t wait to see what he does next. . #hajimesorayama #sexyrobot #heavymetalmagazine https://www.instagram.com/p/CaToZc9ORJK/?utm_medium=tumblr
He immediately became famous for his innovative works mixing pin-ups and science fiction, and museums all over the world snapped up his work. This success allowed him to collaborate with major brands such as Dior, Uniqlo, and even Sony for whom he designed AIBO, the robot dog released in 1999. Hajime Sorayama's work has an influence that extends beyond the borders of Japan, and resonates in fields as diverse as film and fashion. His work can be found in the permanent collections of MoMA and inspires many filmmakers and mangaka who are influenced by Hajime Sorayama's subversive imagery, such as Go Nagai with his Mazinger Angels, or Marvel Studios with Iron Man. #Repost @collection_montparnasse Sorayama Dior Sexy Robot #hajimesorayama #sorayama #dior #japan #artist #chrome #winterscape #artcollector #artcollection #collectorcrib https://www.instagram.com/p/ClQBVIttIlT/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
