By • Olalekan Fagbade Man arrested allegedly for stealing car after hot chace by Police patrol team The Police Command in Jigawa has arrested a 35-year old man for allegedly stealing a car from a dealer in neigbouring Bauchi state. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Lawan Shi’isu, announced this in a statement on Monday in Dutse. Shi’isu said the suspect, a resident of Gwarinpa quarters of FCT, was arrested at about 11:20 a.m. on Sunday by the police in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of the state. According to him, on Sunday, at about 11:20 hours, a patrol team from Birnin Kudu Divisional Police Headquarters, arrested a 35-year old man of Gwarimpa Quarters FCT, Abuja, in possession of one Honda vehicle, white in color without registration number, strongly suspected to be stolen. “All efforts to stop the driver proved abortive when the patrol men sighted the vehicle at a high speed from far distance as the driver was very anxious and refused to slow down.” He further explained that while trying to dodge the police, the suspect smashed a cyclist, a situation that resulted to the car being hooked and forcefully stopped. The PPRO added that the suspect, alighted from the car and took to his heels, but was later arrested and brought to the station. Shi’isu said that the police had earlier received a distress call from neighboring Bauchi state that three unknown persons went to S Fawa Motors along Murtala Muhammad Way in Bauchi and pretended to buy the stolen car. He said the suspects requested to test ride the car before payment. “However, one of the salesmen insisted on going along with them and on their way, the suspected vehicle thieves forcefully expelled him and zoomed off with the car and left him stranded. The PPRO, however, revealed that the rightful owner of the car had since been identified as Usman Zubairu of Federal Lowcost, Bauchi. According to him, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Emmanuel Ekot, directed that the case be transferred to Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Police Headquarters Dutse for discreet investigation. An unknown number of persons are reported to have been injured following clashes between some Gbagyi Okoda operators and Hausa Keke Napep riders in Abuja on Monday. By • Olalekan Fagbade FCTA releases list of 135 roads for rehabilitation, in FCT, Abuja The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has released the list of some of the 135 roads inaugurated for rehabilitation and resurfacing in Wuse, Garki, Gwarimpa and Maitama Districts. The Minister of the FCT, Mr Nyesom Wike, who inaugurated Phase I of the projects on Monday, gave the contractors six-month completion timeline. The list of the streets for rehabilitation and resurfacing obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Tuesday, showed that most of the projects would be executed in Wuse District. In Wuse Zone 1, the streets to be rehabilitated include Daloa, Kayes, Umme, Bumbuna, Masana, Badundu, Oran, Sawhaj, Arusha Crescent, Sunyani, Bamako, Takorade, Dakar, Bulawayo, Soka, Darioa, Kaolack, Kigali, and Gonder Street. In Zone II, the streets are Kribi, Kumba, Touggourf, Kisumu, Gaborone, Faranah, Gabes, Lavumisa, Niami, Johannesbourg, Angola, Korhogo, Bechar, Senanga, Hargeysa and 2, Khartoum, and Damba Street. In Zone 3, six streets would be rehabilitated or resurfaced namely Idimba, Port Loko, Ndele, Yele, Al-Fayyun, and Aswan. The streets for rehabilitation in Zone 4 include Mandingou, Lubumbashi, Port Said, Mogadishu, Shinyanga, Sfax, Zinglunchor, Kitwe, Elminya Close, Sefadu, Meknes, Safi, Mbala, Gwelo, Melange, Savalou, Sheraton and Yar’adua Road. A total of five roads would be rehabilitated in Zone 5 namely Doula Streets, Mombasa Street, Windhoek Street, Boffa street and Jessaoua Close. In Zone six, the streets for rehabilitation are Cotonou, Yaounde, Makeni, Massenya, Annaba, Bukoma, Mobondo, Mbabani, Diovo, Berbera, Chiongola, Jima, Kinshahsha, Bouake, Rabat, Tanga, Timbuktu, Zinder, Rumbek, Zuwai, Beyia, and Tema. Others are Diredawa Street, Kalemie, Asmara, Mbandaka, Macenata/Welkom, Harare, Tripoli, Maseru, Iringa, and Dodoma Streets. For Zone 7, the streets include Lome, Harper, Huambo, Ndola, Sokode, Sirasso and Bambari Crescents, Masaka Close and Dalaba Street. In Garki District, Ladoke Akintola Boulevard, Garki II would be rehabilitated, while Strabag Road, Gwarimpa Life-Camp would also be rehabilitated. In Maitama, the roads are N16 Road, Maitama Roundabout and N11/B4 (Ahmadu Bello Way/This Day Dome Junction) Maitama, Junction between Ring Road 1/Tafawa Balewa Way Area 3-Garki. The FCT Water Board has announced that the water supply to major areas of Abuja will be disrupted for two days. The management, in a statement, said the disruption, which would be from Thursday, March 9, to Friday, March 10, was to allow emergency maintenance service on the major trunk pipes. The statement listed areas to be affected include Utako, Life Camp, Jabi, Gwarimpa, Wuye, Mabushi, Katampe, Apo, Durumi, Games Village, and Galadimawa. The statement reads in part: “Accordingly, residents in these areas are advised to store and preserve water to last them during the period. “Normal water supply will be restored on Saturday, March 11.
