I've had '80s Noir and Cassette Futurism on my mind a lot lately, so why not make a retro game of it?
Tumblr media
You're a private investigator for a large security firm. A client is receiving death threats after witnessing crimes committed by very high-profile people. The firm's job is to keep this witness alive and gather evidence to support their story. You've been assigned as the lead investigator, and as such, your life may be in danger as well. Your employers have permits and licensing for a variety of NFA items. Basically, if something is sold to law enforcement agencies, your employer can get it for you.
Choose your weapons for this role: sidearm(s), long gun(s), any specialty weapons you might think are relevant. For the aesthetic and spirit of this scenario, they need to have been made or imported in the 2020s and a continuation or reintroduction of a weapon produced and available in the 1980s. What modern upgrades and accessories would you add? Custom work is encouraged.
Examples: ARs, AKMs, CZ 75 series, Beretta 92 series, and many revolver models all predate the 1980s and are still made and sold, so their modern versions are all on the table. Likewise the GP100 and SP101, Glock series, and the Desert Eagle were all released in the 80s and still made today. Similarly, the Lionheart LH9 is a currently made pistol based on the Daewoo K5 (itself released in 1989) and also an option. These are just some examples and many more options exist.
Choose your weapons, grab a pair of shades, pop that collar, and keep your client alive. List your choices or go full writing prompt if you want.
Tag some friends and use the "gunblr game" tag so we can see your post.

All Detroit Become Human firearms list
⚠️I know shit about guns, only the basics. If u know something let me know cuz you'll see i got problems identifying real life inspirations.
Curiously most of firearm stuff in the game files (like sticker textures) are in german(?) mixed with some english terms.
HOMELAND SECURITY SNIPER RIFLE (CA8-2)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pretty much a military large cal sniper rifle from RRC, according to the textures;
In the game files is stated as "SNIPERRIFLE" and "CONNORSNIPERRIFLE". Basically no variation;
It's stated is a 12.7mm anti-material large caliber, possibly 12.7x99mm (.50 BMG);
According to the game files it's inspired in the H&K CA8-2 or SL8, probably a "futuristic" version mixed with other tactical sniper rifles;
SCHMOT BENDER rifle scope according to the textures, probably a reference to Schmidt & Bender. There's a "Onrara 50'S /30.24™" next to it, maybe it's a name? Who knows;
Likely adaptable and interchangeable parts: barrel, scope, stock, bipod;
HOMELAND SECURITY ASSAULT RIFLE (CZ1010)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the game files is a stated as "M4SWATRIFLE";
The stock feels inspired in SCAR H but the overall rifle seems like an futuristic AR-15 style rifle mix or CZ BREN;
.45 cal || I couldn't find this specific cal for a "M4" which is usually 5.56 NATO but i did find .458 SOCOM and .450 Bushmaster;
The textures point out for 2 possible manifactures: "Voge Force Log Ltd" or "GOCISSELE AUTOSTARS";
All SWAT, Riot and CL guards use this shit - def generic;
Futuristic holographic sight, likely with target locking;
SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL (AZPR40 SZ)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
According to the textures is a generic semi-auto from KAISAN-Phoenix;
Found 3 variations in the game files "COPGUN", "COPGUNB" and "TODDGUN";
.457 cal (it's an airgun cal irl), likely to be .40S&W according to the textures but should be .45 ACP;
Looks heavely inspired in the Smith & Wesson M&P45 full size with a different grip;
PISTOL (MS853 BLACK HAWK)
Tumblr media
In the game files is stated as "DANIELGUN" (ta~daaa);
Stated as .355 cal, basically a 9mm (by Jonbal Ammunition in this case);
It's the only time we see this pistol being used in the game;
No idea which irl pistol they exactly used as inspiration cuz feels like a mix of guns like Colt 1908, Beretta M9 or even Stechkin APS;
HANK'S REVOLVER (357 MAGNUM)
Tumblr media
I couldn't identify the manufacturer, i only know about this eagle stamp;
In the game files is named as "HANKGUN" (taa~daaaaa);
.357 Magnum cal;
Could be inspired in a Ruger GP100 or maybe S&W 686? Idk, looks like a 6" barrel with polymer pistol grip;
The round headstamp normal map in the game files states "P635AC .40 RWS" or the inverse (why everything is .40 in this shit);
PUMP ACTION SHOTGUN (????)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the game files is named as "FUNFAIRSHOTGUN" and "SHOTGUN";
Probably a generic 12 gauge;
There's a deleted variation (Hunter one) from the deleted section of Pirate's Cove (last img). Got the exact same stock and pistol grip from the CZ1010;
I honestly can't pinpoint what real life gun they used as inspiration, maybe an oversized Remington 870 Marine Mag with some modifications (shorter barrel for example)? Who knows;
ROCKET LAUNCHER (RPG-7)
Tumblr media
In the game files name is "ROCKETLAUNCHER";
Pretty straightforward RPG-7. Classic. 😁🥃
MACHINE GUN (M2)
Tumblr media
In the game files is named "MACHINEGUN" (ta~daaaa), if it's the right one ofc;
.50 BMG cal;
Reminds me of a Browning M2HB;

Note
So I got a Ruger GP100 in .357 and I love it to death. They have a Ruger SP101 for $750 at Runnings that matches it perfectly and it's tempting to get it as a companion piece but is it really worth it or would it just be a novelty?
They’re cool guns but remember it’s snub nose with a gutter sight. Accuracy is not something to be expected

gun rant beneath the cut, you know the deal
so, got to thinking about whether or not revolvers are Actually as simple as people think they are, right. so, i just looked up the parts list of a couple random autoloaders vs a couple random revolvers, and here's what i found:
the S&W M29 seems to have 86 parts in total. the walther PPK has roughly 46 parts in total. the M1911 has roughly 48 parts in total, the ruger LCR has roughly 53 parts in total. comparing an old and big revolver to a small and new one, did in fact show a significant reduction in parts, therefore making the LCR a significantly less complex and therefore a theoretically more robust and reliable firearm. meanwhile, the 1911 still has notably less parts than the LCR, and a hell of a lot less than the M29. the PPK has slightly fewer. the trend seems to be with my suspicion that on average, autoloaders tend to be a bit less complex. let's add more data, shall we?
for something more modern, the glock 17 has 35 parts. the hi-point has 24 parts total. the makarov has 27 parts. the ruger mark iv has 71 parts. the beretta 92 has 62 parts. the HK MK23 has 62 parts in total. the HK4 has 45 parts in total. the CZ-75 has 64 parts in total. the colt python has 56 parts in total. the single action army has 47 parts in total. my bones have 5 parts in total. the S&W model 15 has 87 parts in total, as does the S&W model 19 and the 686. the ruger GP100 has 72 parts in total. the taurus 941 has 40 parts in total. the taurus 66 has 42.
now, this feels very messy to me, so i'm gonna do some cold hard math to figure this out. now, if i'm doing my math right (every part added together divided by how many guns there are, so 484 total parts divided by 10 autoloaders in total), this should come out to 48.4 parts on average. meanwhile, doing the same math comes to an average of 65.7 for the revolvers. so we see, that on average, yes, an autoloading pistol will be less complicated than a revolver.
to do a bit of editorializing, however, here's my personal conclusions: while i do think that in theory, a less complex machine will lead to higher standards of reliability, i also think that what matters more is the standards to which it's built. the HK mk23 had 62 total parts, which is about as many as the average revolver did. as did the beretta 92, and the CZ-75 only had 2 more. in all candor, i deeply feel as though the HK Mk23 is probably the most reliable handgun ever made, if not the most reliable gun ever made. and while the CZ-75 and the beretta 92 don't share that same distinction in my eyes, they're both exceptionally durable and reliable firearms in their own right, and i'd argue they're both about as reliable as a glock; which has significantly less parts and is well renowned by most for being a fairly reliable handgun. in regards to the revolvers, going off of anecdotal evidence i've noticed that while revolvers don't have reliability problems due to ammunition, when they do have some other manner of reliability problem, it tends to be more severe than with an autoloader. with an autoloader, you can generally rack the slide a couple of times and you'll be in the clear. with a revolver, your best bet is probably gonna be pulling the trigger again, which may very well lead to an exploded gun depending on the manner of malfunction you've had. in other words, an autoloader malfunctioning is like if you accidentally stepped on your dog's tail, a revolver malfunctioning tends to be more like if you fell down the stairs directly on your dog and now they have to go to the vet.
now, i do think that revolvers have a very good capacity to be reliable and durable. if i had to pick a handgun to rival the HK Mk23 in those regards, it'd undoubtedly be the Mr73. but i also don't believe revolvers to be more reliable than autoloaders unilaterally. i think it much more matters in regards to the quality of the gun's manufacture and its design, and how well you maintain it. that being said, i also believe it's much cheaper to make a simple thing reliable than it is to make a complex thing. which is why the hi-point and the makarov are both fairly reliable and deeply inexpensive, if less pleasant to shoot than most better made guns.
