anyway just to expand on my point from this post which i kinda hijacked:
it shouldn’t be a radical concept in fandom to want to stray from canon. to explore settings and scenarios in which the main OTP doesn’t actually become endgame. and yet this is somehow a deadly taboo in YOI fandom? there are 15,599 fics as of my post on ao3 with viktuuri in the tags, probably as a main pairing, most likely as an endgame pairing. if an author wants to write a fic that has endgame vikchris or endgame phichuuri (or, fucking god forbid because a solid third of the english-speaking fanbase has such a strong gag reaction to it, yuyuu or vikturio*), fucking let them. you have 15k and counting fics of viktuuri, the majority of which are them being happy and falling in love through every conceivable universe. you can give up a couple more.
*inb4 hate anons: i don’t actually ship vikturio, because that gap isn’t my cup of tea, and i really only ship one-sided yuyuu. but you know what? some people in fandom do and they’re probably just as irritated at the “viktuuri first and forever” attitude that a lot of people have as i am. but hell, anyone who likes a rare ship in this fandom pretty much has to be a multishipper because they’re starved for content.
my point is, as other fandoms embroil themselves in hate wars because the creators tease the concept of an inclusive canon OTP at them, YOI fandom pedestals their inclusive canon OTP in a lofty ivory tower in a fandom panopticon where you’re very closely scrutinised for ideological purity in all of your works. people are discouraged from making content for rarepairs because of overall lack of interest, or even active hostility from part of the fanbase. it’s not a very healthy way to conduct fandom, guys. you can do better than this.
