This is one thing I like about Sokodomo so much. It doesn’t matter what genre it is, he makes it his own. It also doesn’t matter what language it is, he truly kills it. Glen Urquhart Check

Il glen urquhart check, noto anche come glen plaid, è un motivo costituito da quattro scacchi irregolari, realizzati in una armatura saia, in genere batavia 2:2. L'esemplare classico è realizzato con filati neri e bianchi (o color crema).

Ha avuto origine in Scozia, nella valle di Glenurquhart, dove nel XIX secolo la contessa di Seafield lo utilizzava per vestire i suoi guardacaccia.

Questo motivo fu reso popolare negli anni '20 da Edoardo VIII, principe di Galles prima e duca di Windsor poi. Per questo viene impropriamente chiamato Principe di Galles. Tuttavia l’autentico Principe di Galles è realizzato con filati marroni-rossicci e bianchi e con righe blu che separano le diverse sezioni.

Altre volte con Principe di Galles ci si riferisce a un Glen Urquhart check con un qualsiasi ‘overcheck’ di colore contrastante.

Lo scacco del primo quadrante è un pied-de-poule, realizzato dall’incrocio di 4 fili chiari e di 4 fili scuri, sia in trama che in ordito. (Si tratta di una batavia 2|2, AAAABBBB|aaaabbbb).

Nello scacco opposto invece coppie di fili si alternano nei colori chiaro e scuro, sia in trama che in ordito, producendo un effetto quasi rigato. (Si tratta di una batavia 2|2, AABB|aabb).

I rimanenti due scacchi sono il risultato dell’intreccio di fili dello stesso colore a gruppi di 4 in una direzione e a gruppi di 2 nell’altra direzione; anche in questo caso si crea un effetto rigato che porta da una sezione pied-de-poule alla successiva, sia in verticale che in orizzontale. (Si tratta di una batavia 2|2, AAAABBBB|aabbaabb e della sua opposta).
