A bit of Bali and Jamaica in Costa Rica for CR triathlon #3
Tumblr media
Many people have told us that Puerto Viejo and the Caribbean beaches of Limón on the east coast of Costa Rica are their favorite. And we can see why. There is definitely a different vibe…a bit of Bali with a laid back yoga vibe and a bit of Jamaica flair.
Last weekend we took a quick trip for my 3rd triathlon in Costa Rica and the first one with the whole family. We could have picked a different beach every day for a week and not been bored. The race was on Playa Negra, a beautiful black sand beach and we spent the afternoons before and after the race on Playa Punta Uva with white sand and super warm, calm, clear water.
Tumblr media
The race (Ticoman…the coolest name!) was my favorite yet! The laid back vibe began at packet pickup, in a jungle on the beach.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The swim was super calm and the water was 89F/32C. I think I would have overheated if I swam much farther!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I loved the bike course…flat and fast with gorgeous scenery
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The run was super hot but also super pretty along the beach…with a few spots along the route actually on the sand. Tough. Thank goodness for a sweet coworker who doused me with icy sponges a couple times along the course. One of my favorite things about races in CR…the great spectator/team support!
Tumblr media
The finish was off road through the jungle along the beach!
And then the best part according to Kai…a sloth climbing in the tree over our heads during the award ceremony, looking down on the giant replica sloth. Amazing!
Tumblr media
I’ll definitely do this one again and hopefully stay longer next time to explore more beaches and the national parks nearby. A new favorite spot in our adopted home. Pura Vida!

7 Days in Bali: Day 5
Bali Safari Park( Mara River Safari Lodge)
Hey guys
Sorry for not writing for a long time, I was quite busy at that moment.
Anyway, let's get on with It. The day before, we went on our first safari journey.
It was on a bus, which said Bali Safari park ofc, we hopped in , and our journey started. I'm not sure about the order, but let's start with the Zebras. They weren't in a cage or glass, all could just roam freely. There was a bumpy road of course, Zebras can't go near the lions and tigers. But the Zebras seemed to be having fun, just grazing there.
Then, we saw the hippos, they were fun to see, the hippos were in the water, but we could see their heads out. Then we saw Water bucks. They are really cool. Their skin is water proof, so they don't get wet in Water.
Next is Bambi!! Next were the deer. They were so pretty, that's for sure. There were a lot of babies, and their spots made them very pretty.
Then we come to the red cows, their horns were the largest I had ever seen. The guide said that if their horns are broken, they're gone. Horns were the most important part of their body, it where their blood circulation happens.
Then we come to the Giraffes🦒, one of my favorite animals. The giraffes were very pretty, one was called Jessica, and the baby was called corona 🦠 😂🤣. Corona was born in 2020, that's the origin of the name.
The next one was an Owl 🦉. It was sleeping in its hole. So the next was a Bear 🐻. Although it was also sleeping.
Then, we come to the Orangutans. The Orangutans were very naughty. They were climbing the trees , and sitting on top of them. They also had a rope to swing on.
Next, we saw the Tigers 🐯. The tigers were running around here and there.
Then, we saw the Lions 🦁 .The lions were sleeping.
Then, after the night of that day, it was morning at last. This was a busy day.
First, we went to the Tsavo lion restaurant 🦁. Breakfast, not that good. Experience, great!! The lions were staring at us. The lioness was climbing up a giant rock and sitting down there, enjoying herself. The lion was just lying down there and sleeping 💤.
Then we went to the swimming pool, and swam while looking at zebras
After that, we went to three shows. Animal show, tiger show, elephant shows.
In the animal show, we saw toucans, pelicans, Pythons and Orangutans. They all were performing amazing tricks. The orangutan was very smart.
In the tiger show, the tiger was Awesome!!! It jumped into the water, and swam. It ran around a lot, as a worker was throwing around meat.
In the elephant 🐘 show, they performed an amazing skit.
And then we went on our most thrilling journey, called feed the predators. We had to feed the Lions and tigers. It was very fun. The tiger jumped on to our cage, I think I forgot to mention that. And we had to take metal tongs and feed it meat. When we were going to the next animal, a tiger roared at my dad 😂.
We also fed lions, they gave us a scary look while doing so.
These animals look way scarier than they look in zoos and videos.
We fed many other creatures, like zebra, and red cows.
After that, we went on another safari journey as it was free, and then we went for Animal photo, then for the fire dance.
Fire dance was a delight, it was amazing.
Then we went to bed ended the day.
I'll try my best to write tomorrow about Lempuyang Temple/Gateway of heaven, tirta gangga and batik art. Stay tuned.

Patio Elegance — Unveiling the Magic of Outdoor Curtains
Tumblr media
Imagine a world where your backyard becomes a tropical resort, a cozy café, or a luxurious spa at your whim. It sounds like a fairy tale, right? But with the addition of outdoor curtains, this fantasy can become a reality.
Outdoor curtains aren’t your grandma’s drapes. They’re the new superhero of home decor, swinging in to transform your outdoor space from boring to breathtaking.
1. Sun-Slaying Superpowers:
Picture this: a scorching summer day. You want to lounge outside, but the sun is just too brutal. Enter outdoor curtains. Draw them closed, and you’ve got instant shade. It’s like having a giant tree, but without the bugs and falling leaves.
2. The Privacy Protocol:
We all love our neighbors, but sometimes you just want to sip your morning tea in peace. Outdoor patio curtains give you that personal space, turning your patio into an exclusive retreat.
3. A Festival of Fabrics:
From breezy sheers to solid canvas, outdoor curtains come in every imaginable fabric and design. Want to feel like you’re in Bali? Choose vibrant prints. Prefer a French countryside vibe? Soft, pastel hues are your go-to.
4. They’re Like Furniture, But Better:
Outdoor furniture is great, but it’s so… stationary. Nicetown Curtains, on the other hand, dance with the wind, create dynamic spaces, and can be changed according to the season or your mood.
5. Tougher Than They Look:
Worried that your outdoor curtains will turn into sad, faded rags after one rainstorm? Fear not! Modern outdoor patio curtains are designed to withstand weather’s whims, laughing in the face of UV rays and raindrops.
6. Your Space, Your Rules:
Nicetown Outdoor curtains let you define spaces within your yard. Want to create a secluded reading nook? A romantic dining area? A playful kids’ zone? Curtains let you do all that without building walls or fences.
In conclusion, outdoor curtains aren’t just a trend; they’re a revolution in outdoor living. They empower you to be the designer, the artist, and the master of your outdoor space. And the best part? No construction crews or major expenses involved.
So, the next time you look out at your patio and feel a sense of blah, remember the magical powers of outdoor curtains. They’re ready to swing into action and make your outdoor living dreams come true.
I hope this take aligns more closely with what you’re looking for, but please don’t hesitate to provide more specific feedback or direction. I’m here to help!

Ubud Part 2: Cooking, Cremation, and Holy Sites
Culinary Escapades
Welcome back for Part 2 of our Ubud adventures! As you may remember, I spent a significant chunk of our time in Ubud working through a litany of minor scrapes and colds, but luckily just before the cold really got a hold of me, Sam and I snuck in a culinary treat.
Given our obsession with food, Sam’s mum Ali had generously gifted us a Balinese cooking class. We picked a session with the Bali Farm Cooking School, which began first thing in the morning at a food market in Ubud. Our instructor, Deren, walked us between the stalls, taking us through various local produce. He then drove us about half an hour out of town to the farm, where we then toured the farmland itself, learning about what they grow and picking ingredients for our cooking. It’s a small farm, just 1 hectare (2.5 acres), used predominantly to grow food to run the courses and feed their family, though anything left over is sold at market. We walked between coconut palm trees to pick chillies, lemongrass, and lots of green produce such as pak choi, as well as a hunk of turmeric root and even a strip of cinnamon bark.

The cooking itself took place under a thatched roof structure that was open at the sides so that we could look out at the farm as we cooked, as the day moved from persistent sunshine to full-on rainy-season rain. The class taught various menus simultaneously, so we opted for the vegetarian, which was either often innately vegan or easily adaptable. Deren was a fantastic instructor, making the whole process both great fun but also precise and full of interesting titbits. As well as learning about various new ingredients, we also made our own Bumbu Bali, a spice mix that forms the base of many Balinese dishes and involved a lot of manual crushing of ingredients using the heavy-duty pestle and mortar. Throughout the morning, we cooked a 6-course feast, working in stages to first create two appetisers and pause to eat them, before moving on to cook and eat our three mains, and finally our dessert. Our menu was, for starters, sweet and sour tempe plus fresh gado gado. For mains, we ate sizzling corn fitters, a tempe and tofu vegetable curry, and pepes (a mushroom mix steamed in banana leaf parcels). And to cap it all off, we tucked into black rice pudding with banana chunks and coconut milk. Scrum-diddly-umptious.

A Royal Send-Off
On one of the days I was sick in bed, Sam headed into Ubud’s town centre where four cremation ceremonies were taking place. These are normally a spectacle, but the final one happened to be the cremation of a prince from Ubud’s royal family, so it was unusually extravagant affair. As part of the celebrations, a procession passes through the city. At the front is a float of a giant holy cow that the body and personal possessions are placed into for the cremation itself. Following behind are family members and offerings for the ceremony, and finally, a float that bears the body. In the case of the prince, this structure was a whopping 18m (60ft) high, with two large teams of men taking it in turn to carry this massive structure through the town. Once they arrived in the centre, a ceremony took place, before the body was burnt inside the holy cow.

Sacred Explorations
After sampling the dancing, cuisine, and retail options that Ubud had to offer us, as well as hiring a scooter for the day to move about the town more easily (turns out one of life’s peak happiness moments is riding pillion on a scooter as you zoom through a tropical town with the person you love), we decided, on our last day, to explore the surrounding area. Madé (the taxi driver/Kecak performer and passionate Liverpool FC supporter we met through the dance performance) was our driver for the day and took us around a number of amazing sites. First up, we headed to Goa Gajah (or Elephant Cave), a 9th Century temple site created around a cave sanctuary carved into the rock. It was so named because it’s thought that the carved face might resemble an elephant (this was quite a stretch of the imagination for me given the complete lack of trunk) or else perhaps named after the Ganesha elephant figure inside the cave itself. The whole temple site is sat amid the surrounding forest so after walking around the temple itself and into the cave, we then climbed down various flights of stairs amid the trees until we were standing beside a small waterfall. It’s amazing how these beautiful temples are so often set within incredible scenes of nature.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Photos above: with Madé at the Elephant Cave; inside the cave, smokey with incense; one of the temple's shrines; walking through the surrounding forest; a sacred bayan tree in the grounds
Next up, we headed to Gunung Kawi. To get to this sacred site, we had to climb down roughly 300 steps, past rice paddies, streams, and forest. Just as we reached the temple, the daily rain began and we immediately took cover. Rainy-season rain isn’t just like heavy rain in the UK—it’s so intense that you can become completely soaked within a minute (not a hint of exaggeration here, truly) and can last at this intensity for hours. In the end, we only had to sit it out for an hour until it abated and we could wander around. The 11th Century site is most famous for the ten shrines, five on each side of the narrow valley, carved directly out of the rock. Each one stands at 7 metres (23 ft) tall and they are thought to be dedicated to King Udayana, his queens, sons, and concubines.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Photos above: five of the shrines on one side of the valley; several of the shrines on the other side of the valley with the stream in view; Sam's amazing photography skills when capturing the surrounding rice paddies
We paused on our journey for lunch and ended up at a road-side restaurant that was a kind of wooden tunnel built high on stilts (i.e. basically a TREEHOUSE RESTAURANT, hell yeah), so that the view was of a vast valley covered in rainforest (though the food was very average, and very expensive so the view certainly wasn’t free).
Tumblr media
Our final sacred site of the day was the busiest—Tirta Empul (loosely translated from the Balinese to mean “water gushing from the earth”) is one of the five most sacred sites in Bali and so attracts a vast number of visitors. It was first founded in 962AD, around a water spring after, legend tells, an epic battle between a magical king named Mayadenawa and the God Indra (very long story short, Indra wins over the evil king and pierces the ground with his staff, from whence gushed forth the holy water). The temple is, unsurprising, dedicated to Vishnu, the Hindu god of water.
At the entrance, a vast, ancient bayan tree stood, huge branches spread thick with bromeliads and draping vines to the ground. We were given sarongs, as with any temple visit, and then wandered our way through the complex. We started at the purification baths, where anyone who wished to was invited to step into the water for the purifying ritual. Past the baths, we came to an inner courtyard filled with shrines and a large pool, built around the spring itself and containing crystal clear water, showing the bright green of the reeds growing within it. On the way out, we passed the Koi Pond, where hundreds of Koi Carp fiercely swarmed together whenever anyone sprinkled the fish food on sale into the water.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Photos above: being shy with Madé's exuberant photo-taking at the temple entrance; the purification ritual; the holy spring; the Koi Carp
Our last stop was at the Tegallalang rice terraces. This swathe of farmland is famed for its beautiful paddies cut into the side of the valley, but we were actually quite disappointed—the way to look over the landscape was by paying an entrance fee to a kind of park that seemed entirely made up of various “selfie” spots and swings from which to take photos for Instagram. There are probably better spots to check out the terraces from, but this one was not our cup of tea, especially considering that Sam and I are both horribly awkward whenever a camera is pointed at the both of us together.
Tumblr media
Photo above: a huge photo spot feature set in front of the rice terraces
Lembongan Take Two
After nearly two weeks in Ubud, we headed back to Nusa Lembongan (the island we were previously staying on). Though I’m still recovering from the vestiges of the cold, our hope is that Sam, finally, will be able to dive here—fingers crossed!

(It's the same if you go to Ijen from Malang City) How long does it take to climb Mount Ijen Hike to the top of the crater of Mount Ijen from midnight to get the perfect view. The climb takes about 1.5-2 hours starting from the Paltuding post to the view of Ijen Crater. The length of the track is approximately 3 km. The first 2 km distance really feels uphill even though the road is very wide. Unlike the next 1km the road is more gentle but feels difficult because the road is narrow and there is not much room to rest so it can block other people. From here the smell of sulfur began to smell very pungent.

Compost (could serve as a more environmentally-friendly "trash" pokémon? grass/poison, grass/ground, ground/poison?)
Crash test dummy
Dragon kite (or kites in general, see this for funzies)
Dynamite and plunger
Electric/flying kite with key, like the Benjamin Franklin experiment
Fireworks (general fireworks, Roman candles, girandoles, Catherine wheels, etc.)
Fly swatter (fighting-type? martial artists catching flies with their bare hands?)
Food bowl dragons (need to do more research, but this seems to be a relatively common thing in Japanese games? although regardless a spaghetti dragon or something would just be wonderful)
Ice sculpture
Lawn flamingo
Nitroglycerin
Pinball, bagatelle
Pokémon made of recycled materials
Really old mainframes-and-tubes, UNIVAC-style computer
Sand castle
Scarecrow
Tesla coil
Tombstones/headstones, mausoleums, cemetery statuary; possibly the final stage might be weeping angel-like?
Tragedy/comedy masks (also: jack-o'-lanterns? instead of the usual grin or creepy face?)
Pokémon/Game Mechanic Concepts
Usage-Related Concepts
Basic stage that has identical base stats to its evolution, so it's just ability/movepool that sets them apart
Basic stage with good stats that evolves into a smaller, statistically weaker pokémon but that has something else going for it (a little along the lines of nincada/shedinja)
Better users of plus and minus, and I don't just mean plusle and minun evos I mean good
Gimmick Pokémon whose ability gives it a random ability out of all abilities aside from its own
"Glitch" Pokémon that changes into a random Pokémon each time it battles
Legendary that has an ability similar to Forecast (and possibly that reacts to more than just sun/rain/hail); possibly an inspiration for Castform?
Legendary (man-made?) that learns the signature moves of many other legendaries without events
Legendaries with 255 in a single base stat; other stats are on par with lower-tier legends most likely (the ultimate physical attacker, etc.)
Legendary with ability that nullifies all other abilities as long as it is in play
Legendary with Trace?
"Merlin" Pokémon that evolves backward, levels up backward...?
Paired/grouped pokémon with opposing abilities, e.g. alt evos (serene grace/sheer force, etc.)
"Random number god" gimmick legendary with only Metronome and suitably random ability
Slow pokémon with lots of priority moves
Some sort of excuse for 255s and 1s in something's base stats
Something that gets both Cheek Pouch and Pluck/Bug Bite/a new move with the same effect
Strong, probably defensive users of rough skin
Strong, probably defensive users of shield dust
Strong, probably defensive users of shed skin
Design-Related Concepts
Acid-based poison-type, maybe Grimer-ish?
A Pokémon (spiral-like?) that learns level-up moves at levels matching the early Fibonacci sequence (legend?)
A trio of legendaries/pseudolegends using the starter types (grass, fire, water)
Brains vs. brawn—psychic and fighting counterparts. or maybe a split-evo line that's psychic/steel and fighting/steel, each holding giant spoons, based on bending a spoon with your mind vs. just physically bending it?
Completely silent Pokémon—probably has soundproof, doesn't learn any sound-based moves
Contest stat legendaries
Electric-type covered in neon tubing
Fakes based on beta pokémon (also hi weird spiky doggy)
Fire/ice (or something, maybe poison?) unstable fluctuating temperature Pokémon (name based on temperature scales?)
"Ideal" pokémon of each type (Bulbapedia averages+more?); legendaries?
Kaiju-like legendary (as in, no special space-time powers, it exists solely to be Godzilla)
"Legendary mimic" that imitates legendaries (how?) even though it isn't one itself, or something that wants to become a legendary the way that bagon wants to fly; give it an actual legendary "relative" sort of like carbink/diancie?
One pokemon of each type based on the average overall stats of that type; see Bulbapedia's type articles
Pokémon that evolves into one thing at one level but evolves into something else (presumably stronger) at a later level if you hold off
Paired snow warning/sand stream legendaries in a sort of mini-Kyogre/Groudon thing
Pokémon that look like the little icons they had in RBYGSC before each one got its own individual icon (see here and here)
Pseudo-legend with average stats listed on pseudo-legend Bulbapedia page (round where necessary to get 600)
Psychic/fighting-type (or dark/fighting?) based on “telegraphing punches”… except instead of actually telegraphing its punches, it only looks like it’s about to hit a certain way, thus setting the opponent up to deal with that hit when in reality they’re coming in from a different angle entirely
Roaming legendaries found via means other than grass/surfing: fishing, caves, shaking grass, appearing in the overworld, etc.
Something to do with larger "type polygons": for example, an eeveelution-like group or other set of seven things that are Steel/Rock/Flying/Bug/Grass/Water/Fire
Substitute doll Pokémon
Version-exclusive evolutions for the same Pokémon (possibly along the lines of Deoxys's original forme change method, though as with Deoxys you'd need to think of a way to account for third versions and later gens)
Name-Related Concepts
Note: some of these ideas are actual puns/portmaneaus that happened to hit me before a proper concept did, some are existing objects/creatures/concepts with interesting names, and the rest are literally nonsense words that might still be able to inspire some ideas. (If you want to experiment more with the latter, try looking up "random fantasy name generators" online and seeing if you can make something of the generators' results!)
Aldorex
Chamois
Guignol
Maulcano (fire/fighting?)
Mawuh
Quaville
Salvay
Terridair
Vosalon
Evos/Prevos/Counterparts
Electrode (or Voltorb) evolution that isn't based on a Master Ball (Cherish Ball, Dream Ball...?)

Four states of matter (legendaries?)
Fumarole/solfatara
Non-Newtonian fluids

Phototoxicity
Pokérus (the actual Pokérus itself? an amalgam thing?)
Resonance/resonant frequency (psychic?)
Schmidt Sting Pain Index (alternatively, for a bug trainer?)
Sun dogs/parhelia

Balinese Culture
Bali is located within Asia, specifically a small island in Indonesia which is populated by Balinese people and many tourists. The Balinese people follow a form of Hinduism, which is interesting because within Indonesia it is more Muslim dominated with their Religion. I really like Balinese culture, considering I am half Balinese it’s always had an impact on my life growing up.
The culture and religion within the island impacts almost every aspect of life in Bali, which draws people around the world to see and experience it for themselves. Tourism is actually pretty important toward the economy within Bali, helping small independent businesses sell their foods, clothes or souvenirs etc.
Food within Bali is always interesting, mostly simple but also delicious. Whenever I visit Bali I always look forward to the foods, here’s one of their dishes that I enjoy:
Lawar
Tumblr media
Lawar is always a classic in Bali, served with rice shaped in an oval shape, various vegetables and sources. Sometimes served on a palm tree leaf, another aspect of the food which I enjoy with how they use recycling methods to serve their food. The foods in Bali is also very colourful, filled with tropical smells and flavours, a total cultural reset compared to England where everything isn’t as colourful and more bland.
Bali has always been more colourful compared to England actually, walking out the airport the air is warm and smells tropical, as if entering an almost complete different world. The people within Bali are always kind and have gentle mannerisms, considering their mostly poor lifestyle compared to most lives in England they always stay positive, which has always stuck with me. Almost everywhere you would go there would be smiles all around, including aspects of their culture, like the statues and clothing etc, which are always fascinating to look at. It has always been a different world whenever I visit, the tourism aspect is amazing as well, there’s always a lot to do such as sightseeing, snorkelling, and many more. I think the sightseeing is the best, there’s lots of locations in Bali to go to, and lots of things to see;
Ubud Monkey Forest
Tumblr media
Whenever travelling across the island there is a large mountain range you have to pass, and within this area there are monkeys, which tourists love to visit and feed them peanuts, I always love passing by and seeing the monkeys although they do steal your belongings if you’re not careful. Another aspect of this mountain is how there are always statues surrounding the roads and decorating the forest, these statues have always fascinated me when I was younger and still fascinate me now. The statues are detailed, intricate and usually of monsters or the Gods of Bali.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The statues mostly represent the Gods or demons of Bali, I’ve always loved the design of them and the scale of how massive some of the statues are. There is an eye catching statue, the biggest statue in Bali, the Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue. It is based on a Balinese-Hindu story, and the scale of this statue is pretty insane. It represents the story of Garuda, the giant bird creature ridden by Vishnu, one of the Hindu gods, in search for something to free his mother. I think it’s stunning.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another aspect about statues is the shrines, within Bali there are many shrines on every street. Infront of the shrines, usually is an offering for the Gods. wrapped up in a palm tree leaf, filled with flowers, rice and incense, it is part of their culture to do this everyday to offer their Gods.

Delayed update (I forgot XD), but the rest of the chibis! Days 21-28
Day 21-Glit + Floor Piano Mat
Glit jamming on a simplified giant piano! Glit comes from the....It Shall Not Be Named Transformers Series that we all collectively Do Not Percieve, and is one of few Decepticon medics. I think its funny bc like, well, I think cons would need more medics than Autobots TBH but I imagine the burn out rate is high lol. I like the concept of Glit a lil minicon, being a caring medic who treats any bot or con, to no care of faction. Idk if it was just fanon or not but I like the idea of Glit having a meme-y personality. I also just like minicon/bots in general aksksksks
Day 22-G1 Jazz + Saxophone
G1 Jazz with a Saxophone! 🎷 🎷 🎷 Yea believe it or not it did not cross my mind to actually.....have Jazz in my December daily draw, despite his name being a music genre and being known for music sksksksksks. I literally did not think of the main music peeps at all actually!
Day 23-G1 Wheeljack + Zeusaphone
Wheeljack Wednesday with G1 Wheeljack weilding the power of a zeusaphone! Truly the only mech I WOULD trust with two giant sets of electrical poles that zap electric currents to make music, for sure 😌👍.
Day 24-RID2015 Thunderhoof + Jingle Bells
SO RiD 2015...anyone else like, notice how most of the Decepticons are like, either robot anthros or purposely animalesque in appearance?? Like they turn into vehicles but here, have smooth voice wolf robot furry and just a crab?? XD
Because it was SO festive XD. Top favs I can recall being Thunderhoof, Steeljaw, Groundpounder, Underbite, Scowl, and Vertebreak. I remember when I was new to the fandom, lots of people talked about this show, and not in a kind way. Mainly due to how is the sequel show to TFP, and differs heavily to say the least!
Day 25-G1 Cliffjumper + Tambourine
G1 Cliffjumper with a tambourine who just out to give good vibes! Personally I was never a fan of making Cliffjumper into a joke, comparing him to a Bumblebee knock off or whatever, I dont think they resemble another at all??  Like if we are going to talk about characters looking similar,, Seekers in most series are literal recolors of the same model, yet we know and treat them as different characters! Bumblebee and Cliffjumper have different colors and body features and different personalities so why is it so hahah funny to say Cliff is just knockoff Bumblebee?????
Day 26-G1 Tracks + Guiro
Tracks with el güiro! Im,,,love Tracks and Raoul. Raoul and his dancing crew are humans I think should make a comeback in a TF series. Raoul being a snarky guy trying to make ends meet in any way possible, and Tracks being this super posh, conceited guy who has a punchable voice, you see...the c o n t r a s t
Day 27-MTMTE Sunder + Waterphone
Sunder with a waterphone! Please, give it a listen! While you are there, look up the Apprension Engine! Look them up at midnight after a scary movie, eases all fears :^)
Day 28-Shrapnel + Rindik
G1 Shrapnel with a rindik! So Shrapnel, Kickback, and Bombshell are just cons who crashed into Bali, probably watched from a distance as humanity developed and whatever. Didnt really care too much, just chilling in the trees or their lil cave, just eating, and with deforestation and all, then eating the human's crops and being awaken by fishers and musicians. Shrapnel doesn't know w h y humans are so into banging things and making loud noises, but honestly? As long as they keep growing food, he and his crew don't really care, probably.

Warmth
Pairing: Bryce Lahela x MC (Cassie Vanderfield)
Book: Open Heart (a little over 1 year after the end of Book 1)
Word Count: ~1300
Rating: G
Summary: Bryce finds himself in an unexpected location for his vacation.
Author’s Note: Written for Days 12 and 14 of the Autumn writing prompt list (prompts - Bonfire and Toasted Marshmallows) as requested by @universallypizzataco. I hope you don’t mind that I combined these prompts into one fic, but they just went so well together!
Tumblr media
Bryce pulled the blanket further up over his lap and settled back in the lawn chair as he sank further into his Patagonia. His front might have been warm enough from the heat pouring off the flames, but his back was cold. The smoke from the bonfire drifted over toward him as the wind shifted, not only chilling him more, but also causing him to start coughing.
This wasn’t exactly how Bryce had pictured spending his vacation. His other vacations in residency had been a bit more adventurous. Hiking in Peru. Backpacking in Iceland. Surfing in Bali. When he learned that he and Cassie had been lucky enough to actually have a week of vacation that lined up, he’d figured they could go to a resort in the Caribbean. Something warm, tropical, and relaxing, a perfect escape from the cold wind and rain of Boston Octobers.
But instead, they were at a cabin in Michigan’s upper peninsula. Instead of a luxury king sized bed, they were sleeping in twin beds they’d shoved together. And instead of cocktails on the beach or by the pool, they were drinking beer around a bonfire, the temperature 45 degrees, not 82. But when Cassie had suggested they head to her family’s cabin to join her parents and her brother in closing it down for the season, he hadn’t been able to say no. She’d looked so excited, her eyes sparkling and her speech just slightly pressured, telling him she hadn’t made it up there for this annual tradition since the second year of med school. Who was he to deny her that chance?
To be fair, it hadn’t all been huddling in the cold and lounging around a bare bones cabin. They’d spent a couple days in Ann Arbor for her fellowship interview at the start of their vacation, and their trip north had involved a night in a quaint little B&B as they ate fudge, rented bikes, and golfed at a much nicer course than they could afford in the warmer months on Mackinac Island. But for the past two days, they’d been up in the middle of nowhere, and starting Friday night, they’d been joined by her parents and her brother. Which is how Bryce found himself sitting around a bonfire with Mrs. Vanderfield and Nick on the last Saturday of their vacation, waiting for Cassie and her father to join them with the s’mores supplies.
It was a bit strange to find himself willingly attending a family vacation. Of course, this wasn’t his family. And her family, though they were far from perfect, at least seemed to be open and caring with one another. Even now, as Bryce listened to Mrs. Vanderfield needle Nick about the length of his hair and how it wasn’t helping his job search, it felt more affectionate and warm than even the nicest compliments his parents tended to pay him.
Soon, Cassie plopped down in the lawn chair next to his, grabbing a marshmallow from the bag and shoving it on her roasting stick before passing the bag to him. Bryce grabbed his stick, sitting next to him since he finished roasting his hot dog for dinner, and placed his marshmallow above the center of the bonfire, causing Cassie to roll her eyes and laugh.
“How many times do I have to tell you that’s a recipe for a burnt marshmallow?”
Bryce winked and shrugged, “Only like half the time. And what can I say, I like to live on the edge.”
“Yeah, real big risk taker here. You’re just impatient.”
“Oh, you’re one to talk. How many miles over the speed limit were you going on the way up here when you got pulled over?”
Cassie shot him a dirty look as her mother interjected, “Cassie, you got another speeding ticket? And in a rental car? I’m so sick of telling you that getting somewhere five minutes faster is not worth risking your life.”
“Mom, it was nothing. They let me off with just a warning.”
“Only because you played the doctor card,” Bryce chimed in, taking great amusement as Cassie glared at him while her father just shook his head as her mother pinched the bridge of her nose and Nick chuckled. “What medical emergency were you rushing to again?”
“None at that time, but if you keep this up, you will need a doctor before the night’s over.”
“Promises, promises,” Bryce said with a grin, but wisely decided to stop the teasing while she was only mildly annoyed. He pulled his marshmallow out from the center of the flames, perfectly golden brown. He glanced over at Cassie’s stick, held over the edge of the fire. Her marshmallow was still pale white.
Bryce grabbed the chocolate and graham crackers off the spare lawn chair, using them to slide his marshmallow off the stick and passed the s’more to her. “Here,” he said as he grabbed the stick out of her hand, “We’ll be here all night if you wait for that marshmallow to roast there, and we have to be on the road by 7am for our flight.”
“Wait, not only did Cassie get my bed for her boyfriend, but they aren’t gonna even be here for the worst parts of closing up the cabin?” Nick asked as he whipped his head around to look between his parents.
“We’re just happy Cassie could make it this year. And Bryce, of course,” Mr. Vanderfield said as he made his own s’more, leaving off the chocolate and just using graham crackers.
“Next year we should close out the cabin the first weekend of their vacation so they can actually help on Sunday. And one of you two can take the couch,” Nick said with a shake of his head, pointing between Bryce and Cassie.
“I doubt they’ll be able to make it next year, Nick. Bryce, your residency is four more years, is that right?” asked Mrs. Vanderfield.
Bryce nodded and opened his mouth to clarify, but saw his marshmallow catch fire. Yanking the stick back toward him, he quickly blew it out, but still found himself with a blackened marshmallow. Cassie moved to get him a new one, but he shook his head and made his s’more anyway. A little charring wasn’t a problem.
“The next two years are dedicated research time for me, so we should have some flexibility in scheduling our vacations,” Bryce said before taking a bite.
“Oh, don’t feel obligated, dear. We completely understand if you two want to take a trip to Hawaii to see your family. That has to be more exciting than the UP,” said Mrs. Vanderfield.
“And warmer,” added Mr. Vanderfield.
Bryce just shook his head and continued eating his s’more. No need to get into that mess tonight. So he let the conversation drift to other topics, from Thanksgiving plans with Mrs. Vanderfield’s sister to Mr. Vanderfield’s new boss, from memories of the time Cassie broke her arm climbing the giant oak tree out front to Mrs. Vanderfield attempting to determine if Nick was currently dating anyone. It was so different than what Bryce was used to when his family got together, watching a family that clearly actually liked spending time with one another.
As they left the bonfire and went to get ready for bed in the tiny bathroom, Cassie slipped her hand into his and said, “Thanks for coming up here with me. I know this isn’t your usual vacation.”
Bryce shrugged, “Maybe, but I am always up to try something new.”
“Still, I know you aren’t a big fan of the cold.”
“Warmth isn’t always found in a forecast, Cassie.”
She smiled at him gently, then handed him his toothbrush and toothpaste from the toiletry bag they had sitting on the top of the toilet tank. While she was right that he never would have chosen a vacation like this on his own, he wouldn’t change sharing these moments with her for anything.
