Hardening Your Electronics Against Technopathic Threats
Introduction
Welcome to the not-so-gentle art of hardening your hardware against technopaths. Now, before you panic about some rogue superhuman frying your precious rig from the inside out, let's get a few things straight. This isn't about turning your PC into a tank, but about being smart. Think of it as cyber hygiene for the age of brainy hackers who skipped the keyboard and went straight to mind control.
So: Here's how we prevent these new-age hacker freaks from getting more intimate with your home network than you'd ever been with your girlfriend.
First things first: the "Principle of Least Resistance" in dynology. Sounds fancy, but it's simple. About 80% of superpowers that do shit do so in predictable ways. They're like that one annoying friend who only knows one joke. Once you've heard it a hundred times, it's easy to see coming and dodge. The good news is, this predictability is your armor. Sure, every technopath is unique, like a snowflake, but most of them melt the same way under heat.
So, what does this mean for hardening your electronics? It means don't freak out thinking you need to prepare for a million different powers. Most technopathic threats follow certain patterns, and if you can guard against those, you've covered your bases against the majority. Think of this guide as your cheat sheet to keeping your tech safe without breaking the bank or your brain. Let's dive in and show those brainy hackers that we're not just sitting ducks in this digital pond, and I'll teach you how to make your hardware tougher than a two dollar steak, well-done.
Common Technopathic Abilities: The Usual Suspects
Alright, let's talk about what these technopathic troublemakers can actually do. Most of them fall under a few basic categories, so don't worry, you won't need a PhD in Superhuman Studies to get this.
Direct Electronic Manipulation: These guys can chat with your electronics without saying a word. They might turn your devices on and off, mess with your settings, or even fry your circuits. It's like having a ghost in the machine, but less spooky and more annoying.
Data Messing: Think of these technopaths as the ultimate data thieves. They can read, rewrite, or delete your data. If you thought regular hackers were bad, these folks can do it without even touching a keyboard.
Signal Highjacking: Wireless signals? More like open invitations for these types. They can intercept, disrupt, or spoof wireless communications. Think of it as someone eavesdropping on your Wi-Fi conversation, but with the power to shout louder than you.
Power Surge Creators: Ever had your lights flicker during a storm? These technopaths can do that to your devices on purpose. They generate power surges to short-circuit your electronics. It's like giving your tech an unwanted electric shock therapy.
How These Abilities Wreck Your Hardware
These abilities aren't just cool party tricks; they can turn your beloved gadgets into expensive paperweights. Direct manipulation can damage your hardware's physical components, data interference can compromise your privacy and security, signal highjacking can cut you off from the digital world, and power surges... well, they're just bad news all around.
In the next sections, we'll cover how to turn your devices from sitting ducks into digital fortresses.

A: The Kinect sensor is a horizontal bar connected to a small base with a motorized pivot, and it’s designed to be positioned lengthwise above or below the video display. The device features an RGB camera, depth sensor, and microphone array running-- B: We all know about the hardware specs of a Kinect!!! A: I really like the Kinect! C: That sounds terrible. A: It’s the future of gaming! Let’s ask the Ouija board what it thinks about it. C: This isn’t a proper Luigi board. I mean, there’s no yes or no, you can’t say goodbye. You’re gonna get fucked if you can’t say goodbye to a ghost, trust me on that one. B: I can get fucked? Finally!

What I meant regarding Parsons being a strange spectre in my orbit, is that his name kept coming up in various ways. I just think that's odd. Especially since a picture of him holding a device quite like one created to try to annihilate people in my family seemed a strange coincidence. Perhaps most devices such as that are similar in appearance? It was a homemade apparatus attached to a garbage disposal.
If you'd care to share your theory as to why consciousness can not be maintained after death I'd be interested. And the truth of how things work especially regarding supernatural or what is beyond or usual comprehension. Some people have more perception than others. That's usually do to genetics and I high level of severe abuse. Increases awareness and more primitive animal instincts the general population lacks.
Thank you
I am aware “paranormal” things exist. What they are, is actually a complex interplay between your inherent abilities you do not know you possess and the environment, which is far more complex than we’ve mapped. These supposedly “above normal” incidents are actually normal, but science hasn’t described them in any corrective way, because of stigma. For example, you mix table salt and chlorine, two normal every day chemicals, and you get an explosive. You mix a human enduring emotional trauma, and specific environmental factors and bam, you’ve got a poltergeist, a momentary “powering up” of place memory, etc. ghosts aren’t dead people saying things to you. They’re you influencing the environment to echo your expectations. You miss grandma. You influence the environment to sculpt what you want to see. Some environmental situations are very susceptible to flux and others aren’t. So some places stay haunted while others don’t. It isn’t terribly difficult, but humans complicate it by looking at it the wrong way around.
You can perceive and manipulate more than you realize, and so I see no reason to explain it to you lest you use it in a way that impacts me. I’d prefer ignorance.
And my “theory” isntt a theory. We know for a fact that mind depends on structure and chemicals. It depends on the road and the cars on it, so to speak. If the brain is damaged, identity changes. Sometimes it doesn’t, despite vast change. These two extremes teach us about the norm. There are too many things happening to physically fascillitate thought, like transmitter production, largely dependent on food and gut microbiome, nerve death/growth, types of neuronal connections, brain structure and growth due to trauma in early childhood etc. when the brain is not maintained, the identity fails. No hardware, no software.
If a person can physically go mad, then there is no life after death. Consciousness is temporary. Let me give you another metaphor.
Have you ever seen slow motion video of a full water balloon popping? If not
Tumblr media
When you pop it, the water temporarily holds the shape, but with no external structure, the water falls out and resumes its normal level configuration, depending upon the external space and its shape. That’s the same physics that governs all things.
While the brain is dying, the energy is still moving in some recognizable pattern. Once the brain isn’t there to be the grooves, and the body isn’t turning food into electrochemical signaling, there is not energy production. No new consciousness. No life after death.
It’s simply not possible to have a consciousness as we have them, off of a biological substrate. All beings on this plant depend on this kind of structure. Other worlds perhaps not, though they are governed by the same physics.
I’ve tried before to explain how and why I understand this, but I cannot make any human understand. Have you ever gone along with an idea for the sake of a child’s whimsy? Santa brought you a sock! Gasp! But you know it wasn’t Santa because you saw your uncle put the gift under the tree, etc. that’s how I feel. Except that instead of letting you have your fun, I’m deemed an insensitive bastard for explaining that people do not actually want to solve this mystery, and they don’t want you to question whatever it is they e decided upon.
I have no interest.
As for Parsons, I’ve noticed a recent resurgence of Nicola Tesla nonsense too. New new wave spiritualism awakens. Ugh

It's game over for 2023. Time to talk about the best games I played during the year. I finished many enjoyable titles on various platforms, crossing genres and time to visit even decades old games. I finished a total of 38 games this past year. And because I apparently didn't have enough choice for devices to play all these games on, we got an Xbox Series X to our household on Christmas week.
Anyhow, here are the winners of my personal Game of the Year 2023 awards. *drumroll*
1st place: Vampire Survivors (PC)
My addictive substance of choice. Doesn't shine in the graphics department with modern tech. Doesn't try to impress with thought-provoking narrative. The incredibly simple yet satisfying gameplay however is engineered to perfection. A true masterclass of game design.
+ Infectiously fun, action-filled reverse bullet hell roguelike gameplay. Just one more run! + Bold artistic identity. + Humorous touch in character/enemy design and fun nods to other videogames. + Superb soundtrack. + Tons of quality content for an incredibly cheap price. Free updates and paid DLC with even more content. - The flashing effects can go a little overboard and cause discomfort. - Later stages of game can lag even decently powerful hardware.
See my posts about Vampire Survivors
2nd place: Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow (Wii U Virtual Console, originally on Game Boy Advance)
A classic Castlevania that holds up nicely even 20 years from release and on a big screen. With a bit more memorable music and a small quality of life improvement, Aria of Sorrow would have earned the coveted 5/5 stars in my book.
+ Balanced and fun gameplay with a good sense of progression. + Top tier level design with a concise map. + Nice art style in environments, sprites and character portraits. Great animation and enemy design. + Fitting music and audio. + Good story. - Lacks item to warp to last save room or outside castle.
See my posts about Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
3rd place: Touhou Mystia's Izakaya (PC)
Chill vibes managing your restaurant, gathering ingredients and talking to characters by day turn into frantic cooking and serving action by night. This game got its recipe right.
+ Fun, rewarding gameplay loop mixing leisurely action and challenges testing your attention. + Enjoyable story with funny events. + Wonderfully cute pixel art. + Catchy music. + Lots of content for a low price. - Starts slow, even a bit boring in the beginning before you get special customers and unlock more recipes. - Final battle had annoying RNG. - English translation could use a little polish.
See my posts about Touhou Mystia's Izakaya
Honorable mention: Crimson Shroud (Nintendo 3DS)
This surprisingly challenging table-top RPG inspired game impressed me with its quality and satisfying gameplay. This is a hidden gem worth visiting.
+ Challenging gameplay with long and brutal battles make for a rewarding experience. + Good, well-written story with two endings. + Cool art direction with 3D models mimicking table-top RPG figurines, pretty illustrations. + Great music. + Game's length is just right to keep player invested. - Overall difficulty is higher than usual for JRPGs and Game Over wasn't a rare occurrence on my playthroughs. Slight frustration ensued due to having to retry the long battle from the beginning. - Confusing equipment UI (comparison of current vs new gear).
See my posts about Crimson Shroud
Honorable mention: Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective (Nintendo DS, played on 3DS)
Unique experience with tricky chain reaction puzzles and fantastic characters. Prominently fluid and amazing animations - I can't believe it's a Nintendo DS game! This is no trick - it's a treat.
+ Inventive gameplay and mechanics, perfect fit for touch screen. + Interesting story that definitely doesn't forget humor despite the grim subject. + Memorable characters (Cabanela and Missile were my favorites). + Awesome art style and marvelous animation quality. + Great music throughout the game. - I almost lost interest at some point and got impatient to finish the game. - I guessed one of the key plot twists but luckily that didn't put a dent on the ending.
See my posts about Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective
Honorable mention: Gears of War 2 (Xbox 360, played on Xbox Series X)
Entertaining cover shooter with varying missions. The game never had a boring moment and the length of the single player campaign was just right. I'm looking forward to playing Gears of War 3 next!
+ Fun gameplay that sets expectations for other shooters. + Interesting setting and story with some cool events. + Fun dialogue that made me chuckle many times. + Good music and great English voice acting. + The challenge on Normal difficulty was just right for me. - AI controlled companions got stuck occasionally, leaving you alone in dangerous enemy territory. - I didn't always understand the mission objectives in the hectic situations. - Cutscenes can't be skipped (thankfully this is not a Kojima game).
Honorable mention: Signalis (PC)
Atmospheric sci-fi survival horror paying homage to older games. Puzzles are different from usual and require attentive skill and logical thinking to solve. This game deserves a sequel.
+ Intriquing sci-fi story with an impactful ending (there are multiple endings too). + Great art direction, appealing PS1 era inspired retro graphics with skillfully crafted pixel art. I very much enjoyed the nod to Ghost in the Shell. + Unique, well-designed puzzles and good level design. + Great atmosphere. - A bit clunky combat. - Tiny inventory space forced me to backtrack more than I would have liked. - Annoying design choice to not include a map in a couple of areas.
See my posts about Signalis
Nominees for my personal Game of the Year 2023
Only games I have finished in 2023 have been included (looks like I played a lot of games starting with the letter T).
An Arcade Full of Cats (PC) Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney (3DS) Assassin's Creed: Revelations (PS3) Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea DX (Switch) Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow (Wii U Virtual Console - GBA) Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia (3DS) Crimson Shroud (3DS) Detective Pikachu Returns (Switch) Dordogne (PC) Fitness Boxing (Switch) Gears of War 2 (Xbox Series X - Xbox 360) Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective (3DS) Immortality (PC) Kuru Kuru Kururin (Wii U Virtual Console - GBA) Labyrinth of Refrain: Coven of Dusk (PC) Liberation Maiden (3DS) Need for Speed: Most Wanted U (Wii U) Piofiore: Fated Memories (Switch) Pokémon Art Academy (3DS) Pokémon Rumble World (3DS) Scorn (PC) Shadows Over Loathing (PC) Signalis (PC) Sticky Business (PC) Super Mario Bros. #4 - Pac-Man (Coleco Tabletop) (1981)
Tumblr media
Now now, sweetie. We have Pac-Man at home.
Remember last week, when we said we were playing something that was officially sanctioned by Namco? Weeeell... We never said it was developed by Namco, just licensed.
Oh yeah, if Galaxian Hardware was us dipping our toes into the world of odd hardware, this is us full-on taking the plunge into the depths of the weird, obscure stuff we have to play. Behold, ladies and germs, the first official home port of Pac-Man! ...Technically, anyways.
For a tiny bit of background context, the Coleco Tabletops were Coleco's own foray into the handheld gaming market. Yes, handheld, albeit maybe only on technicality. These things were no larger than something you could rest on your desk, though you could perhaps hold them directly if you really had the dexterity for it; they were approximately the size of a lunchbox, though, so uh, good luck! Oh, and these were shaped like tabletop arcade cabinets. Coleco had the pedigree to handle electronic games by this point--after all, they made the ColecoVision console just a year after this, so we sure hope they would--so this isn't too shocking to see them here.
As for hardware... Look, we're not gonna sugarcoat it--these are Game & Watch-esque, Tiger Electronics-esque "sheet that lights up certain segments depending on the gameplay" graphics. This is why we had to expressly define what "video elements" meant, because if we didn't, we'd have to decide for ourselves whether to either include or exclude these sorts of games. Ultimately, we decided there was no harm in including these even if there aren't exactly any liquid crystal display elements to the display.
Now, you may be asking--how the heck do we plan to play this thing. This is a full on physical unit, and these things are like, 60-to-100 US bucks secondhand nowadays. And sure, this thing is definitely fair game for emulation, but how would you go about emulating this sort of device?
The answer's a little easier than you might've been expecting.
Tumblr media
Thanks, Internet Archive! They have been and are continuing to be invaluable for this project. Case-in-point, they have several pre-configured setups powered by MAME right for you to use in-browser. Handy!
Let's zoom in a bit, and start the main game up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...Gross. And we're not talking about the visuals, but... Maybe we are, because look at those ghosts! While the original Pac-Man hinted that the ghosts may have secretly been slug monsters, here they look more like... amoebas. It doesn't help that one of their eyes is just identical to the slice they're using for pellets, and inside their foreheads is... Pac-Man??? These look a lot like they're gelatinous blob monsters that already ate a Pac-Man! This is NOT how we expected the first game to display multiple concurrent Pac-Men (Pac-Mans?) would go.
As you can imagine from a game that looks this rudimentary, its sounds and gameplay are also pretty bare-bones. Pac-Man, the Ghosts, everything moves with strict adherence to the grid, as you can expect from a Game & Watch-style game. The maze has been simplified--so much so one of the ghosts has been kicked out of the pen and starts the game outside of it! Yet there's also dots immediately surrounding the ghost pen, and with that, zero spot for a Bonus Fruit whatsoever (We'd guess there was just no way to put it on the display, to be fair...)--fundamentally, this game does not, in fact, score like the Arcade version. Which we wouldn't remark upon if the manual didn't brazenly declare it scores like the arcade version. (More on the manual in a bit.) And yet they still somehow got Pac-Man starting by moving left perfectly intact? How baffling, but we're not complaining.
And, perhaps most importantly, the ghosts/amoebas lack unique colors... And indeed, unique behaviors of any kind. The colors are understandable, but the AI is definitely a major downgrade. Now they all act more-or-less the same, and seem to behave a bit like a reverse Clyde, wandering around aimlessly but trying their best to get to Pac-Man when he's nearby.
Probably the biggest change is the fact that these ghosts/amoebas can turn around 180 degrees. In Pac-Man, the ghosts will never reverse directions unless the player eats a Power Pellet--otherwise, they will only make 90 degree turns. Here, however? They will gladly turn around entirely and you have to be careful to avoid that. Being able to turn around freely when the ghosts couldn't was a huge advantage that the player had, but now it's gone! This definitely makes things more frustrating, and while this behavior is often associated with unofficial clones of the game, if you can believe it, this won't be the last time we see this in an official version of the game.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For whatever reason, when you eat a Power Pellet--er, a red pellet, seeing as there's only one type of pellet, just two colors for it--the Pac-Man inside the ghosts vanish? This is what actually clued us in those little dots were meant to be eyes, but then that raises a whole new conundrum... The pellets have pupils now.
Admittedly, this is kind of a Morton's Fork situation that naturally comes from trying to represent every game state in a little drawing like this--either one of the ghosts' eyes would not have a pupil, or now the dots have pupils--but honestly, we feel like maybe the former would've been better, because the latter just kinda looks plain creepy!
In any case, that's the end of the main game, but if you paid attention to the header, you'd know we have two entire other game modes to cover! Yep, this was technically the first Pac-Man game with side content to it.
Tumblr media
The second mode, described as Head-to-Head Pac-Man, is... Weird. Another first for the series is concurrent multiplayer! Yep, it debuted here, and we guess a second player mode that happens simultaneously was seen as so impressive that they just had to call it a whole new mode. Fittingly, the handheld has a second joystick just for this.
But... y'know, it's not really all that incredible, mostly for no fault of its own, just because Coleco Tabletop Pac-Man just isn't exactly powerful to do this concept justice. Still, very strange to see simultaneous co-op Pac-Man on this dinky thing from 1981!
The third game mode, Eat & Run, is perhaps a little more interesting, though...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, a lot of firsts here. Pac-Man has entered the ghost pen--er, the "base" if the manual is to be trusted--for the first time! Not only that, he starts in the base. And the ghosts are in the four corners with four power pellets, with zero normal pellets in sight! This is definitely weird to see so early on in the series, alright.
So, in this mode, you effectively have to play Capture the Flag. The ghosts are already out, and they're guarding the four power pellets--your flags, so to speak. Leave the base when it's open, grab as many of the pellets as you can, but victory doesn't happen when you eat all four. No, victory is only called depending on if you make it back to the base, and the more pellets you have, the more points you get! This means it's actually possible to die with zero pellets left in the maze.
And, of course, the base isn't always open--sometimes, its doors will open and shut, so you have to make it over where while it's open, unless you want to try surviving a cycle until it re-opens. This is a pretty interesting take on the game, and to be honest... It's probably as complex as this thing can handle. We kinda wish we saw a version of this with proper ghost AI and a proper maze (and if that's coming up, don't spoil us.), because it's a fun concept! It's just bogged down by this game and its... eccentricities.
...Oh, right, let's talk about the manual. We never had a better time to elaborate on this, but uhh... It's more than a little flowery, which is a double edged sword. The upside is that it's extremely funny for it! The downside is that it takes a bit of trial-and-error to learn how to work this thing on the Internet Archive's embedded emulator, because instead of clarifying how to start a game, it...
Okay, um. Let's just. Show you a collage of some of the headers in this manual. You'll see what we mean when we say it's extremely funny unintentionally, but also unhelpful when you're trying to find something about, say, how to play the game.
Tumblr media
Goodness. Overdramatic, much?! It's just a Game & Watch-esque downscaling of Pac-Man! It's really not that heartfelt, adrenaline-filled, and sobering! Just tell me the button to press to start Eat & Run mode! ...Though, this could serve as a great fodder for blackout poetry, if anything, and as you can see above, it definitely makes for great snippets.
...Well, that's about it for the Coleco Tabletop Pac-Man. But we're not quite out of the woods just yet. So, um, next time around, expect something... Well, a little similar to this, but also a bit different. It's published by Bally Midway themselves, too! ...Technically, anyways. Look, it's complicated. We'll just be seein' you around.

I do wanna say while i loved the charm of the dancy animations from the og ghost trick i do think the remaster+port did the game wonders. Obviously the original was limited by the DS hardware so it's not the original's fault but with the remaster being so crisp and clean unpixelated lines it allows the movements to be snappier, less floaty, and have more impact.
The best example I can think of is when Lynne does that backflip looked a lot more natural and like it would actually help the time critical situation (trying hard to not spoil anything for people who haven't played) so yeah, really glad we get to see all these cool animations in a crisp remaster. Cabanela's...uh... literally every movement he does ever ™️ is also such a treat to watch in a remaster! So entertaining too!
And if you haven't played the game yet pLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLAY IT the demo of the remaster is free on all devices!!! At least give it a try, the story will hook you i promise!

Me an IT guy
Tumblr media
Also as I'm reading this unearthed arcana bc I do want to make a 21st century Waterdeep campaign and they didn't give rogues a hacker subclass??? Bro. Rogues are the hacker men. They're the IT people knowing how to fix the printer for the millionth time. They're the computer science PhD student that is learning how to make an encryption system that quantum computers can't break. Like c'mon!
Also as I'm reading it the more it makes me feel like this was written by someone that isn't a tech guy (gender neutral) also the city domain cleric sounds dumb. The ghost in machine warlock is kinda cool albeit kinda silly. Technomagic wizard is cool besides this
Tumblr media
Bro I'll just give them like Google drive to store their spells and they access it via mobile device or any computer that has access to the Internet and every time they want to prepare their spells all they have to whip out their phone and read them there. Technically if they want it in a flashdrive I could just make it that they can store their spells be able to be stored in any digital device (including Google drive) and the more I think of it, it doesn't make sense that a war mage can't have a digital spell book just because they aren't as tech savvy as a technomagician. I'll give this to all wizards tbh
This is kinda wack
Tumblr media
I'll just either give them a flashdrive of Kali Linux that they can put in their laptops or it's an app they found that functions as a VM of Kali Linux and they can do hacking on their phone. There's some IRL hardware hacking tools out there but I'll just make it that it can be done with software in the game
And besides the some of the spells are goofy, that's apparently it. I guess I have to make a whole homebrew system for technomagic and fix this city domain cleric AND ADD IT ROGUES

You see this piece of shit? FIFTEEN YEARS and I haven’t been able to kill this by conventional means. I’ve dropped it, I’ve stepped on it, I’ve been on questionable websites and downloaded weird files, it’s had malware, it’s had viruses, it’s been to Boston, but it still. fucking. runs. It’s a piece of windows 7 junk with no redeeming features, but after everything I’ve put it through the only thing no longer working is the fucking wifi chip. I hate this thing. I LOATHE it, but it still. fucking. works. The Toshiba Satellite that cost me nearly 1.5k in 2016 died within three years. My graphics card on my PC died within six months. I’ve had phones give up the ghost within weeks when faced with my inherent ineptitude with technology, but no. This abomination will not die.
Note that I wouldn't talk this way about any other device. My sewing machine is a sensitive soul and needs kindness. My phone panics at harsh language. This beast though? She laughs at the destruction of lesser hardware. Empires have fallen and this craptop has survived unscathed. I’m starting to think all the electronic deaths in this house have been this electronic vampire sucking the functionality out of them to keep itself going.
I plan to use this to write on the train, because the wifi doesn’t work so I will have no distractions. I will either become unimaginably productive and powerful, or I will fall to the beast. Time will tell. My commute is an hour by train each way. That’s a lot of potential writing time.

Test keyboard keys
Tumblr media
Testing keyboard keys and troubleshooting any issues is essential for ensuring optimal functionality and performance. Whether you're experiencing unresponsive keys, sticky buttons, or other issues, diagnosing the problem is the first step towards resolving it. In this guide, we'll explore various methods and tools for testing and troubleshooting keyboard keys.
Keyboard Tester:
A keyboard tester is a handy tool that allows you to check the functionality of each key on your keyboard. These online tools typically display a virtual keyboard, and when you press a key on your physical keyboard, the corresponding key on the virtual keyboard lights up or changes color to indicate that it's working properly. Keyboard testers are useful for quickly identifying any malfunctioning keys.
Mac Keyboard Tester:
For Mac users, there are specific keyboard testers available that are compatible with macOS devices. These testers are designed to work seamlessly with Mac keyboards, allowing users to diagnose and troubleshoot any issues they may encounter. Whether you're using a MacBook, iMac, or Mac Mini, a Mac keyboard tester can help ensure that all keys are functioning as they should.
Keyboard Testing Website:
There are several websites dedicated to keyboard testing and troubleshooting. These sites offer a range of tools and resources for diagnosing and fixing keyboard issues. Some sites provide virtual keyboard testers, while others offer troubleshooting guides and forums where users can seek help from experts and fellow keyboard enthusiasts.
Keyboard Troubleshoot:
If you're experiencing problems with your keyboard, troubleshooting is the next step to identify the root cause of the issue. Common keyboard problems include unresponsive keys, ghosting (multiple keys registering when only one is pressed), and sticky or stuck keys. Troubleshooting methods may include checking for software updates, cleaning the keyboard, or testing the keyboard on another device to rule out hardware issues.
Test Keyboard Keys:
To test individual keyboard keys, you can use built-in keyboard testing utilities available on most operating systems. For example, on Windows, you can use the "Keyboard Properties" or "Keyboard Settings" menu to test each key's functionality. On macOS, you can use the "Keyboard Viewer" tool to test keys and identify any issues.
Keyboard Button Tester:
In addition to testing individual keys, it's also important to check the functionality of other keyboard buttons, such as function keys, modifier keys (Ctrl, Alt, Shift), and special keys (e.g., volume control, brightness adjustment). A keyboard button tester can help ensure that all buttons are working correctly and can be customized to test specific button combinations.
Check Keyboard Keys:
Regularly checking your keyboard keys for any signs of wear and tear can help prevent issues before they occur. Look for loose or damaged keys, debris or crumbs lodged beneath the keys, and any signs of corrosion or water damage. Cleaning your keyboard regularly with compressed air or a soft brush can help maintain its performance and longevity.
In conclusion, testing and troubleshooting keyboard keys are essential for ensuring a smooth typing experience. Whether you're using an online keyboard tester, built-in utilities, or dedicated troubleshooting tools, diagnosing and resolving keyboard issues promptly can help prevent further problems and prolong the life of your keyboard. Remember to keep your keyboard clean and well-maintained to avoid common issues and enjoy optimal performance for years to come. Read More

MACBOOK SCREEN REPLACEMENTS
In this fast and furious world of technology, MacBook users may encounter various issues with their devices, and a common concern is the need for screen replacements. Whether due to accidental damage, hardware malfunctions, or aging components, understanding the process and options for MacBook screen replacements is crucial. This comprehensive guide will delve into the intricacies of MacBook screen replacements, covering everything from reasons for replacement to the types of screens available and the steps involved in the replacement process.
Understanding Common MacBook Screen Issues MacBook screens, like any display technology, can encounter various issues. Here are some common MacBook screen issues and potential solutions:
1.Dead Pixels:
● Issue: Dead pixels are individual pixels that do not display any color.
● Solution: Unfortunately, dead pixels cannot be repaired. If your MacBook is under warranty, you may be eligible for a replacement.
2.Screen Flickering:
● Issue: The screen may flicker intermittently.
● Solution: Check for software issues by restarting your MacBook. If the problem persists, update your macOS to the latest version. If the issue continues, it could be a hardware problem, and you may need to contact Apple Support.
3.Backlight Bleeding:
● Issue: Uneven illumination across the screen, often noticeable in dark environments.
● Solution: Backlight bleeding is a common issue with LCD screens. If it's severe, consider reaching out to Apple Support or an authorized service provider for a potential replacement.
4.Screen Artifacts or Glitches:
● Issue: Random artifacts or glitches on the screen.
● Solution: Restart your MacBook and check if the issue persists. If it does, it might be a hardware problem or a GPU issue. Consult Apple Support for assistance.
5.Vertical or Horizontal Lines:
● Issue: Lines appearing on the screen, either vertically or horizontally.
● Solution: Restart your MacBook and check for graphics driver updates. If the lines persist, it could be a hardware issue, and professional assistance may be required.
6.No Display:
● Issue: The screen remains black, and there's no display.
● Solution: Ensure that your MacBook is charged and attempt to reset the System Management Controller (SMC). If the problem persists, consult Apple Support for further troubleshooting.
7.Color Calibration Issues:
● Issue: Colors on the screen look off or inaccurate.
● Solution: Check your display settings and ensure that color calibration is correctly configured. You can use the built-in Display Calibrator Assistant on macOS.
8.Screen Burn-In:
● Issue: Persistent images or ghosting on the screen after prolonged display of static content.
● Solution: Modern MacBooks with LCD or OLED screens are less prone to burn-in. However, avoid displaying static images for extended periods. If you notice persistent ghosting, consult Apple Support.
9.External Display Issues:
● Issue: Problems with an external monitor connected to your MacBook.
● Solution: Ensure that your cables are securely connected. Check for macOS updates and try adjusting display settings. If the issue persists,
test the external monitor with another device to rule out hardware
problems.
If you experience persistent issues with your MacBook screen, especially if it's under warranty, it's advisable to contact Apple Support or visit an authorized service provider for professional assistance. Attempting to repair hardware issues on your own may void the warranty and could cause further damage.
Types of macbook screen
Here are some of the common types of MacBook screens:
1.Retina Display:
● Retina Display is Apple's high-resolution screen technology, designed to make pixels indistinguishable to the human eye at a typical viewing distance. Retina Displays are known for their sharpness and vibrant colors.
2.Liquid Retina Display:
● Introduced with the iPad Pro and later extended to some MacBook models, Liquid Retina Display is a variation of the Retina Display that incorporates advanced technologies to deliver high resolution and color accuracy.
3.ProMotion Display:
● ProMotion Display technology is typically associated with iPads, but it's worth mentioning as it may influence future MacBook displays. ProMotion allows for a higher refresh rate, providing smoother motion and responsiveness.
4.True Tone Display:
● True Tone is a feature that adjusts the color temperature of the display based on the ambient lighting conditions. This is intended to make the screen more comfortable to view in various environments.
5.Mini-LED Display:
● As of my last update, the MacBook Pro models introduced in 2021 featured a Mini-LED display in the larger 14-inch and 16-inch sizes. Mini-LED technology allows for more precise control of individual backlighting zones, enhancing contrast and dynamic range.
6.OLED Display (rumored):
● While OLED displays are not yet standard in MacBooks, there have been occasional rumors and speculations about Apple considering OLED technology for future MacBook models. However, it's essential to check the latest
announcements for any updates on this front.
Remember that specific MacBook models may have variations in screen size, resolution, and features. Always refer to the latest product specifications and announcements from Apple for the most accurate and current information.
The MacBook Screen Replacement Process
Replacing a MacBook screen is a delicate process that requires precision and technical expertise. While some users may opt for DIY solutions, it is often recommended to seek professional assistance to avoid further damage. The process typically involves removing the MacBook's casing, disconnecting internal components, detaching the damaged screen, and installing the new one. Technicians must exercise caution to prevent static electricity discharge and handle fragile components with care. DIY enthusiasts should consult detailed guides and videos, but success depends on the complexity of the model and the individual's technical proficiency
Conclusion
In the realm of MacBook screen replacements, a well-informed approach is paramount. Understanding the intricacies of screen technologies, accurately identifying issues, and making informed decisions regarding DIY or professional replacement are essential
steps. Choosing between OEM and aftermarket screens, ensuring compatibility, and considering warranty and support further contribute to a successful replacement experience.
While navigating the maze of MacBook screen replacements may seem daunting, armed with the knowledge provided in this guide, users can confidently address screen issues and breathe new life into their beloved MacBook laptops. Whether opting for a DIY approach or seeking professional assistance, the goal is to restore the brilliance of the MacBook display and continue enjoying the seamless user experience that Apple products are renowned for.

The Bullock Hotel
by Scott A. Johnson
Deadwood, South Dakota. The very name evokes images of the Old West, cowboys, and hard-drinking, hell-rising good times. Though t he ruffians of the past are gone, landmarks remind visitors of days gone by-especially in those places where the smell of cigar smoke and the sound of clinking poker chips still waft down the halls, and shadows shift ebb.
In one of these historic places-the Bullock Hotel-cowboys whose lives were cut short by their revelries continue the party in the afterlife. And lest the party get too out of control, steel-gray eyes cut through the darkness, stopping many in their tracks and sending chills down the spines of the living.
When Deadwood was still in its infancy, it gained a reputation for unbridled bawdiness. Miners, transients, gamblers, gunfighters, wild men, and prostitutes made up most of the town's population, making nights rowdy and, as often as not, soaked with blood. There was money to be made form the trade vice and sin, and for a time those who owned businesses simply counted the money coming in and paid little attention to their customers' antics. But when Jack McCall shot and killed James Butler "Wild Bill" Hickok (McCall was supposedly seeking revenge for the death of his brother at Hickok's hands), th eneed for law and order became apparent.
Seth Bullock, who owned a successful hardware store in town, was appointed the first sheriff of Deadwood-a role he seemed made for. He cut an imposing figure: tall, with a stare that could, according to all accounts, stop fights without a word spoken. According to his grandson, Bullock could "outstare a made cobra or a rogue elephant." In fact, during his time as sheriff, Bullock never killed a single man. Yet his reputation and demeanor brought peace and order to the once rowdy town.
When fire broke out and claimed the Deadwood Hardware Store in 1894, Bullock bought the land and built a 64-room Bullock Hotel on its ruins at a cost of nearly $40,000. Construction took two years; but when the hotel finally opened, it was the finest of its day, with steam-heated rooms and a bathroom on every floor. It also boasted a 24-hour casino on the ground floor.
Bullock remained a colorful person for his entire life, enlisting with Theodore Roosevelt's Rough Riders and winding up appointed by Roosevelt as the state marshal of South Dakota. When he died in 1919 of cancer, it was in room 211 of his beloved hotel. He was buried in Mount Moriah Cemetery alongside Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane. However, soon after he died, it became clear that while his body may have been laid to rest, he wasn't about to leave the hotel that bore his name. And he wasn't the only one, either.
A Posse's Worth of Ghosts
Just how crowded with ghosts is the Bullock Hotel? More than you'd imagine. Some paranormal investigators and psychics have estimated at least thirty-seven separate entities. Few other hotels in the world can boast the kind of paranormal activity present in the Bullock, and many of the phenomena sound as if they come straight out of the movies-in this case, both old westerns and horror films.
Eight of the hotel's rooms have a history of strange happenings. Guests' items are often reported to have moved inexplicably from one place to another, while others have simply disappeared, only to be found later in other locations. Lights and electrical devices in the rooms have suddenly turned off and on, often when they're unplugged. The restaurant has also had its share of activity, with plates and glasses shaking, flying off the shelves, and smashing to the floor before guests' and employees' eyes. Even bar stools and cleaning carts move all by themselves, in full view of many witnesses.
Objects aren't the only things in the hotel that provide evidence of the unknown. The second and third floors report feeling a strong presence, often accompanied by phantom footsteps and even voices calling out guests' names in whispers. Some report hearing a low, lonely whistle coming down the hall, passing them and then fading as the unseen whistler goes about his way. Many declare that they have been tapped on the shoulder, and then turned, only to see an empty hallway.
Of the apparitions, the most frequently seen include shadows that dart in and out of the peripheral vision, leaving many witnesses with the uneasy feeling that they're being followed. Photographs taken in room 211, where Seth Bullock died, have often revealed misty apparitions hovering over the bed. There is even a little girl who people claim appears and disappears with alarming regularity in the hotel.
Seth's Spirit
By far the most often seen-and most famous-apparition is that of Seth Bullock himself. Those who see him never forget his icy stare and imposing demeanor. Whether he stalks the hallways to keep the peace or an eye on his investment, those who see him claim they couldn't mistake his gaze. Still, it seems that Bullock isn't always the gritty character he was in life. On at least one occasion, a child became lost in the hotel, and according to the boy, it was Sheriff Bullock who led him back to his room.
The oldest hotel in Deadwood, the Bullock Hotel is not only still open for business but was completely restored in the 1990s. There has never been any documentation of the times of year when paranormal phenomena occur in the hotel, and investigation performed in July 2003 yielded electromagnetic energy. However, because Bullock died in the month of September , it stands to reason that this would be the most likely time for visitors to brave the steely gaze of the Deadwood lawman.
As for the rest of the entities, sightings are both random and constant, depending on which apparitions decide to make their presence known. According to the staff and many guests, not a day goes by when something strange doesn't occur in Deadwood's most famous old hotel.
