#genloss rant

just finished therapy so thought i’d talk about some stuff…
…STUFF LIKE GENERATION LOSS YEAHHHH YOU THOUGHT
ok so i’ve always been iffy with horror stuff, when it comes to online projects like analog horror and stuff, it never actually like BOTHER bothers me bc it’s like yeah it’s not real but it’s a cool concept so epic ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
when it comes to movies, i never exactly like them because i don’t like jumpscare horror, never been my thing so i’ll only watch ones without them normally.
the ONE thing that will always disturb me about horror media is when it comes to being out of control.
i can do scary creatures and child murderers all day, but the SECOND a character loses any sense of control they thought they had, that’s when it gets me. when characters think they have the upper hand, but the villain has been in control the whole time, the person our protagonist has trusted most turns on them at the last second, that’s what IRKS me.
and i think that’s why generation loss has gotten to that place for me where i put it in the high ranks of the horror content i consume. it WENT there. the last episode specifically. it gave me that sense of lost control so VIVIDLY and i don’t think i was able to explain it until now.
so all of that to say props to ranboo for makin a fuckin awesome piece of media, im so excited for everything else to come 🫶

GENEARTION LOSS SPOILERS also very long and its a rant you have been warned
ok so i just had a Generation Loss Theroy™
so everyone with a mask is mind controlled right(ranboo, sneeg, showfall drones)
hetch has a mask
hetch is mind controlled
stay with me i think this means that the founder is still alive and running the show(s) but they want people to think they're dead(for some reason I don't know what it would be)
everyone whos controlled has moments of realization too, but the drones don't. the drones have a very high level of control, and I think this means hetch does too. he's programmed to say the lines, act a certain way, etc. also, the way ranboo is programmed is that he doesn't realizes whats going on, he cant see past the fourth wall, he cant do things of his own accord but his lines are his own(I think) and the same goes for everyone else. its scripted, but they have just a tiny bit of free will, which I think they have to add to the"realness" of the show.
like the moment with sneeg was definatly scripted. everything was. but they had those moments to add to the horror, because no matter what,it was always supposed to be a horror show, those two drones were supposed to die, sneeg, charile, everyone else, they were supposed to die, everything was part of the show(I know this is a very widely recognized theory its basically said I just wanted to say that)
all of the moments where ranboo kinda knew what was happening and was confused, were part of the show. hetch literally says "the real human emotions that come from breaking a reality, don't you see that's where the real fun is?" the show isn't the cabin or the warehouse or even the mal, it's the shattering of reality, its the moments of realization, its the moments of true emotion, austins(very appropriate) reaction to ethan dying, niki crying on the carousel and her death, sneeg trying to escape, ranboo begging for death at the very end, that was the show, it was the parts that were real emotion, it was the genuine reactions to what was happening that made the show.
this turned into a completely different rant, but I had a lot of things to say I could honesty say a lot more but I wont do that now maybe later
anyways, all this to say that i think hetch is fully controlled, like the drones, but everyone else was only partially controlled so they could have the reactions that made the show.
thanks for coming to my tedtalk
also this whole thing was inspired by another post, but I cant find it so whoever it was thank you:)

hey babygirl, traumatized by the fact that everything you thought was real is actually orchestrated to appeal to an audience entertained by your suffering on a friday night all by yourself?

warily eyeing every stream i tune into after genloss because what if they're actually the pawn of a massive multimedia corporation and been brainwashed to create content for them without realizing they're not actually in their house and are actually streaming from an abandoned mall

god I love how this episode makes you completely recontextualize everything in both this and the previous one with the reveal of sanitized filter showfall uses, and its all revealed just from that one scene of charlie's dissection. the unanswered questions make it so much more rattling.
it paints such an eerie feeling over the entire rest of stream. any slapstick moment loses a lot of it's comedy because of the implied reality of the scenario. the reactions from those who broke free from the control helped sell it a lot as well.
the shot of sneeg staring in horror at charlie off screen while everything and everyone around him just kind of pauses? brutal.
and the fact that most of the offscreen deaths were never shown, but were often treated with the most sincerity as well. it both works as effective horror and also as a way to work around format limitations.
shoutout the fear of the unknown. it's such a good horror device.

The second episode of Generation Loss was so fucking cool the way everything just felt off for almost whole episode, the way everyone acted and the moments of "glitches" where Ranboo seemed to regain their consciousness just for a second always followed by what seemed like snowfall media taking over their mind even more. And the fucking ending?! The mask getting turned off and Ranboo finding out he is being lied too all the time. Them breaking the 4th wall and genuinely sounding panicked like this scene was so fantastic, and it's such a good scene to end the episode at. Also all of the sets look so fucking amazing the last room that we end in that kind of looks like a shopping center genuinely made me gasp also the change of light in this scene that just completely changes the atmosphere in a second AAAAAAAAAAA! I could talk about cinematography for hours. I love it so much, and I genuinely love the mix of horror and comedy and Ranboo and everyone involved in this project just did such a phenomenal job. I'm so fucking excited for the 3rd episode

The ending of genloss really screwed my brain because I think all I ever want for characters is to let them have a long rest. A sit in the actual sun and a break from the unending terrors. A race from the monsters and into the real world where yeah it’s messy but it’s still real it’s still there for them they can still exist.
And GL!ranboo gets so close. He thinks he’s done it. They think he’s free. Those who sacrificed themselves for him all think they’re free. They think he’ll be able to live enough for all of them. Only for him to realize that they’re trapped even as they take his final bow. Trapped more than ever before. Tangled in a web of lies and wires. The curtains close and he dies but he’s still in there. He never gets to rest. They never get to see the sun. He dies before they get to live. And with him, so does everyone else they’ve journeyed with

Watching a few people give stupid criticism over Gen Loss that makes 0 sense, from being annoyed that not everyone’s a perfect actor to being annoyed that it isn’t Hollywood level stuff.
I also saw someone say “ I can’t suspend my belief because that’s not how online media works” no my dude that’s how fictional media works
when you watch a movie or show you suspend your belief for the sake of enjoying it
It’s the same for watching online horror content, like locks 58 or Walten Files or Mandela Catalogue. A lot of those have elements that wouldn’t make sense in the real world but it’s not the real world, it a fictional one with horror and paranormal elements, you have to suspend your belief to enjoy it
If you wanted high budget stuff, then don’t want indie content online, and certainly do not complain about it that’s so stupid
I’m not saying it’s perfect but like if your complaint that Ranboo ( who funded his passion project on it own like any other artist typically does) doesn’t have the large budget to create something you’d find in the movies, I have to wonder if you respect indie creators at all
I also wonder if we watched the same thing and I midly get concerned with the way we consume media online a little

I love generation loss so much but also I’ve been thinking about it for hours and I have an innate NEED to figure out what everything within it means but I don’t even think that’s possible right now but I NEED to know
Anyways, expect me to explode when the Founders Cut gets released

I found the reason why the story in Generation Loss is so great.
So from the start Showfall Media tells us and Ranboo that they're the hero. Therefore everyone expects that we get to see your average hero story: some guy gets thrown into a difficult situation and helps everyone out. We know that heroes die sometimes, (let's take Marvel as an example: Tony Stark dies while saving the entire universe) but most of the time they sacrifice themselves in order to save others.
Bc that's what heroes do. And typical hero stories end good, even when the hero dies.
THIS IS WHY GENLOSS IS SO DIFFERENT, THIS IS WHY YOU DON'T EXPECT THE ENDING.
I mean the twist with Hetch being a bad guy was kind of to be expected. He was way too sus from the beginning. But even when it was revealed that he betrayed Ranboo you still think it will end well in some way.
At least for someone, right? Some person will survive and help take down Showfall, right? Because that's what happens in hero stories. The bad guys somehow pay for their wrongdoings.
Not in genloss.
The bad guys win, no one gets out and Ranboo helped no one and dies for nothing in the end.
They are no hero, they never were.
Showfall Media made us think there was a hero. A protagonist even.
They were just a puppet, someone to entertain us.
This is not a hero story.
It's a tragedy.

erm genloss spoilers! And also this gets sad I think so uh warning for that
SO, since tse was supposed to be a show streamed to a live audience as a TELEVISION SHOW, does that mean it has reruns? As Showfall seems to be a very large tv corporation, they probably rerun their most popular shows. In the instance that rgbtrio survives, do they have to deal with the fact that they are celebrities? If they watch tv and things, do they have to avoid anything showfall associates with? Do any of them get curious? Would even one of them watch the show? Rewatch the show knowing Frank is a corpse? That Charlie was disemboweled? That all those people are dead and reborn? How would that affect them and their mentality? Does leaving the house become difficult? What if they're recognized while getting groceries? If all that attention ends up with showfall finding them and taking them back, what can they do but accept their fates? How would they handle fans, knowing that the people liked them when they were manipulated and tortured?

Matpat's Genloss Theory
Ima be honest Matpat's theory for GenLoss was pretty good. The things he was pointing to as evidence were brilliant and especially the thoeries about the death being fake but i just don't think it points to Ranboo being the founder. At most I feel it confirms the final death is fake not because Ranboo is the founder but because they need him for more content (like the b-rolls during the cabin episode, stuff for the founder's cut, more shows, etc.) Matpat's video i feel was well researched and really good not lazy like some people are saying it is. (like the stuff about the teacher experiment and connecting that with the amount of times Showfall has had us vote for someone to die was brilliant to theorize that the final death was fake)
I think the one thing he missed was that Ranboo was still being controlled to lead the show in the right direction which is why he passed up obvious ways to escape.
Also Matpat's theory about the founder's cut replacing the three vods and being shown as the "true" version of events is incredible. It will be the founder's version of Generation Loss. Such a cool idea, i could see it happening 100%
And if anyone saw Sneeg's discussion about the Matpat video and Sneeg saying the Ranboo could have being lying a bit when discussing lore after the show. Ranboo did those GL discussion streams wearing the outfit and still in the mall... and we know streaming was part of Showfall... so....
(also Charlie wearing the green shirt during streams after the show which could mean some streams done after GL were still part of it which could be hinting that they're still being used by Showfall for content which again points to deaths in episode 3 being fake AHHH)
Anyway, if you don't agree with his theory its' fine. That's what theorizing is for. There's no objective right or wrong. We're all just here theorizing and we should be collaborating with our ideas and information not just shutting people up if they have a theory you think isn't right.
