Viktor leans back in his seat as the waiter places down their food. His question earns Jayce a frown from the man sitting across from him. But it quickly turns into something more akin to nonchalant amusement. “ I would’ve been able to stabilise the power surge issue days ago without you distracting me , you mean ? “ He quips back sarcastically.

The only reason Jayce had managed to coax him out of the lab and into some faux fancy restaurant was the offer to pay for it all himself. Viktor is notoriously bad at taking care of himself when he’s deep in a project, which is almost all the time, but the poor child in himself still couldn’t bear to turn down free food.

And maybe, just maybe Jayce has more of an influence on him than he’d like to admit.

“ Really Jayce , we could’ve just ordered to go . This is a waste of our time . “

“Jayce will understand...” that was what he said, confident in his friend . Yet, as he sat alone in his lab replaying the scene from the bridge earlier. He closed his eyes as his hand wrapped around the vile of shimmer. Would his friend really understand? or would he look at him in disgust? despise him as he can clearly see when the Undercity is mentioned. 

Did he blame the other? no, of course not. it almost felt like yesterday they were dreaming of a brighter tomorrow where science was going to help people, not bring them onto the edge of war. 

With a sigh he gripped his cane and pushed himself to his feet, no he had to trust Jayce, he had to speak to him first. Hiding the vile back into his cane he slowly made his way out to look for the man. His search was short lived as he rounded the corner and saw him and Councilor Medarda. He hunched into himself as he cleared his throat, his resolve slowly crumbling. “Jayce...a word please?..alone.” he hated how easy he coward back into the shadows. The grip on his cane tightening. 

Trust him. 

“You don’t LOOK like much. Hurry up and get the HELL outta my WAY.”

    She'd been staring at the other for several moments now, thoughts rolling about her head as she tried to figure out the solution all on her own.  When that failed, however, she floated over to Jayce.

    Zoe simply pointed at the obscenely large hammer once she was close enough to talk.  "Isn't that heavy?  How do you carry it around?  Oh!  Does it have an anti-gravity field?  A space distortion zone just around it?"  Clearly the option couldn't be that Jayce was just strong enough to carry it.  He didn't look that strong to her.

A huff somewhere between frustration and indignation is quick to leave her lips at that. Just because they had a deal and he's a good friend of Caitlyn's that doesn't mean he gets to LEAVE when things get heated to not deal with the CONSEQUENCES and then have the nerve to want her forgiveness. ❝Cut it out. I'm not looking for a pity party.❞

Still, despite the tight-knit lines of her brow, her posture relaxes somewhat— a call for peace, much like the way she sighs. ❝look, you wanna stay on my good side? stop acting like you can fix everything, because this is gonna get old really fast.❞

Viktor is speechless as he stares at the crutch in Jayce’s hands. A present, he’d declared. A much needed upgrade to the replacement cane that hadn’t meant to be a permanent solution to his previous one breaking that fateful day in the lab. The thought of needing to get a new one had occured to him plenty, but he can’t remember ever complaining about it out loud. Had Jayce been so attentive that he’d noticed his discreet struggling?

The idea spontaneously brings a fond smile to his face. It turns into a slight chuckle at Jayce’s cheesy remark. Embarassed, he drops his head and looks away.

No one has ever done something like this for him before.

“ Jayce . Thank you , really . You didn’t have to . “ He says as he takes the item from him. It’s the perfect size, even. Of course it is. “ I feel awkward . I don’t have anything to give you in return . “
