so, obviously taking a lot of liberties and personal preference for magnifico's backstory (so none of these ideas are meant to imply they're the only interpretation or even supposed to be what was intended for his character), but as far as his infatuation with and adoration for wishes goes... 🥺

in my characterization for this drama king, magnifico throughout a good portion of his youth was considerably irresponsible and lacked any particular "drive" (or we could even say "wish" here ;3). it wasn't until his home fell to pieces—he and any other survivors forced to rebuild their entire lives—that he began to take things more seriously. and there, at that moment, is where he began to understand the beauty in people's passions, desires, hearts: wishes. the beauty that managed to persevere through all devastation.

this is where his obsession began, and an obsession that originally wasn't at all harmful. he wanted to nurture those wishes, and furthermore do everything in his power to let them see the light: make them come true. that, along with a desire to help his people, is what drew him to practice sorcery: good intentions at the start.

as time went on, as the kingdom of rosas grew, his love for the wishes grew just as well. but over those many many years, something else grew too: an obsession turned into possessiveness, a near-desperation to protect wishes (and maintain complete control over them) instead of protecting the people those wishes truly belong to.

does he recognize the harm he's causing? no, not at all. to him, it's all the same: he's providing for his people, just as he promised he would. and for those whose wishes he refuses to grant, he's conveniently erased all recollection of that deepest part of themselves because, in his mind, isn't it more painful having a dream you can never reach? or a dream that can be destroyed (if not otherwise under his eternal protection)?
