🫂 PEOPLE HUGGING — generally speaking, do you feel very supported by the people in your life? how strong and cohesive is your support system, if you have one? do you often feel like you're at the front of the line or pushed to the side by the people in your life?

'Yeah, for sure. I don’t know what cohesive means, but my circle? It’s full of pretty rad people. I’m there for them, they’re there for me. I never feel pushed aside. 

Uly has been there every time I needed him, he didn’t even give me the boot once my studio was fixed after that whack storm. Gillian supports most of my decisions, which is for the better that she doesn’t support all of them, because she looks out for when I’m making a dumb choice like wanting to buy something I definitely shouldn’t. Atticus and Angel both are on my 911 list, not literally, I mean. Unless I start a fire. Val had been my biggest, making sure I was raised and lived to see a future. So yeah, I’m pretty good on the support front, huh?'

uly 🍻 + “ is there anyone you regret kissing ?”

"I don't kiss without thinking," Edie answers, slight insult in her voice at the implication that she would do anything that careless.

Even if it was something that had happened in the spur of the moment, you could always count on the fact that Edie had thought about kissing the person more than once before the event actually took place.

She only took risks that were calculated, and she didn't deal in rejection.

"I can't decide if you want me to say I regret ever kissing you, or if you want me to say that I regret ever kissing anyone who wasn't you," she thinks out loud, eyes narrowed in concentration through the words and she takes another drink of her tequila.

"If it's the second one I don't really see how that matters. Because anyone else I've ever kissed was either when I was pretending I didn't like you or when I was pretending to be over you. I don't regret them. They served purposes."

She goes quiet for a moment, letting her mind swim in the alcohol and letting the words fall into place.

"If you want me to say it's the first one, I can't because it's not true. I don't regret kissing you. The first time we kissed was probably the best kiss of my life if you could rank something like kisses -- and it's impressive for something to be the best out of the millions of times that we kissed. If there's any kiss I could regret it would be when you kissed me goodbye that night and left. I shouldn't have let you do it. I should have kicked and screamed until you stayed. I should have bit you and made you bleed. I should have done more to keep you from doing what I knew in my gut you would do."

"Yeah, man, of course I do. I have a thing. That thing is my undying love and support for him because he's my best friend, and he's stuck with me until I'm in my grave, but even then I'll haunt his ass. His only escape is if he dies first.

If you mean a 'romantic thing', my heart's taken and claimed by my beautiful, amazing girlfriend. Which is probably what you meant. Different type of love there.

❌ CROSS MARK — how would your life be different if uly had never been in it? would it be better or worse?

'Uly was my first real friend in California. Not just in town, I made no friends in Los Angeles while I hopped from shelters and sofa surfed. And we instantly clicked. I knew it, knew for sure, he was my brother in a way. He reels me in some, and I know he watches after me.

I don't know, I can't even think about how this last year would be different. It would be boring, I might've moved on from this town. Broken my lease and hopped on a bus to somewhere else. I think he was the first thing to anchor me somewhere, and not in a 'I'm stuck' kinda way. Just in the, 'I belong here and I'm meant to be here' kinda way.

He's a keeper, that's for sure, so it would be for worse if I didn't ever meet him.'

Asher knew the moment he caught Uly slipping something into his sleeve at the Surf Shop that (if he didn't have to call the cops as per his job requirement despite the hypocrisy) he wanted to be his friend.

It was the second time they met, the first time they hung out, and fifteen minutes into a conversation that to Asher, Uly felt like home.

Asher definitely has stolen a pair of sweatpants from him. He won't say which ones. He moved there with next to nothing and was cold, especially after the storm, and they're comfortable considering the extra length, so they're his now.

Asher has a habit of texting Uly 'i miss you :(' at least a handful of times every week. He also likes to add on that he feels neglected and Uly needs to fit that, stat.
