Gets me thinking tho...

-His homeland

-The blood in his veins

-The bonds he forms

-Lena can never have any pride in her despicable homeland

-Her alba blood is basically a source of shame since it's resented by the eighty six who suffered thanks to not having it & despised by the Federacy who learned of their atrocities.

-The only thing she has of the "three things that make a man" is the bonds she forms first with the spearhead squadron and then the brisingaman squadron and maybe others and even that was achieved through painstaking effort since she's always on the other side of the gran mur which forms a "wall" between her connection with the processors she grows close to and it was basically the only thing keeping Theo & Co from COMPLETELY thinking of her as a true comrade by the end of vol1/cour1(but that's resolved at the end of vol3/cour2 ofc).

(There's also how she's a pure blood celena which is the esper class of the Alba, but I try not to think about that too deeply if Asato decides to do nothing with it....I really wanna know what "intimidation" is tho....)

Was going nowhere with this. Just thoughts. Too little Lena I gotta fill the void with SOMETHING, y'know.

eighty-six light novel - volume 4

chapters 2+3 thoughts

i say that but… i'm really focusing on one thing, and chapter four appears to be half the book so 🤪

i really like the character arc that Annette has been going through. For years, she’s been flooded with this deep regret for something she said and could never take back…desperately wishing she could as she feels the fact that Shin was sent off to the battle because of her.

but you can’t change the past, obviously.

and, of course…..it digs really dip to see that Shin doesn’t remember Annette at all, making it clear that his time on the battlefield and being persecuted by the Alba really shaped him into someone else…someone who doesn’t remember how nice life was before the war began.

it’s interesting to see over the course of the chapters how Annette has to accept that trying to make someone remember the pain that she wished she didn’t cause in the first place is hurting them more…

i also like how Frederica immediately dislikes Lena and Annette, which makes sense, as they are citizens of a country that persecuted others who contained blood that was deemed “lesser” than their own. she’s obviously very protective of Shin. To her, Annette is one of her persecutors and Lena is her competition for Shin’s attention, which Lena wasn’t even looking for in the first place….although she has acknowledged her feelings for him which makes me wanna fangirl every time i think about it—
