"Moment of Truth" es el quinto álbum de estudio del dúo de la East Coast Gang Starr, conformado por el legendario DJ Premier nacido en Houston, Texas y la leyenda del Jazz Rap Guru “Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal” de Roxbury, Massachusetts pero ambos con orígenes en el rap de New York, el álbum fue lanzado hoy 31 de marzo de 1998 bajo el sello discográfico Noo Trybe Records, subetiqueta de Virgin Records. Fue considerado uno de los mejores álbumes de rap de la época y es ampliamente reconocido como uno de los álbumes más importantes en la historia del hip hop.
El álbum cuenta con la producción de DJ Premier, quien es conocido por sus intrincados arreglos de samples y beats innovadores. Las letras, escritas y rapeadas por el fallecido MC Guru, se centran en temas de la vida callejera, la lucha por la supervivencia y la importancia de mantenerse fiel a uno mismo.El álbum incluye canciones emblemáticas como "You Know My Steez", "The Militia", "Above The Clouds" o "Moment of Truth", todas las cuales se convirtieron en éxitos de la radio y son consideradas clásicos del hip hop.
En 1998, el rap de la costa este de los Estados Unidos estaba en una fase de evolución. A mediados de los años 90, la costa este había dominado el panorama del hip-hop con artistas y grupos como Jay-Z, DMX, Big Pun, The Lox, Mobb Deep, Canibus, Black Star, The Fugees, Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, entre otros comerciales y de la escena Underground, además, de las recientes muertes de los raperos 2Pac y Notorious B.I.G. donde el hip-hop vivio una ruptura y empezó a buscar nuevas formas de expresión.
El hip-hop de la costa este en este período se caracterizó por un enfoque más oscuro y agresivo en las letras, con beats duros y ritmos lentos tipo Boom Bap.
El álbum "Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life" de Jay-Z, lanzado en 1998, fue un gran éxito en la costa este y en todo el mundo, y se convirtió en uno de los álbumes de hip-hop más vendidos de la década. Otros álbumes notables de la costa este de 1998 incluyen "It's Dark and Hell is Hot" de DMX, "Capital Punishment" de Big Pun y "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" de Lauryn Hill, que fusionaba el rap con el soul y el R&B.
Gang Starr - Moment of Truth
El álbum ha sido el mayor éxito comercial del grupo hasta la fecha. Moment of Truth debutó en el puesto número 1 en la lista Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums, vendió 97.000 copias en su primera semana vendiendo más de 500.000 copias siendo certificado Oro por la RIAA el 7 de mayo de 1998. El sencillo principal, "You Know My Steez", se convirtió en la segunda aparición del dúo en el Billboard Hot 100 en 1997, alcanzando el puesto 76. La revista Spin lo clasificó como el álbum número 16 de 1998. Pitchfork también lo clasificó como el 16º mejor álbum de 1998.
El disco cuenta con la aparición de artistas como K-Ci & JoJo, Inspectah Deck, Hannibal Stax, M.O.P., Big Shug, Freddie Foxxx, Krumb Snatcha, G. Dep, Shiggy Sha y Scarface.

Good morning 🌅. Here's something from Dr. Oop, aka Dr. Oop Capone, aka Droop Capone, a super underrated veteran underground MC from L.A. who specializes in witty and comical wordplay. “Run This” is a fun and unserious example of his style that features him traveling on eccentric trains of thought through his mind palace as he blends in silly, braggadocious battle rhymes that parodize the archetype of the pseudo-intellectual and overconfident MC, sounding something like an absurd version of Freddie Foxxx with his gravelly, guttural voice and commanding mic presence.
Beat has that late 90s-early 2000s LA underground boom bappy sparseness to it, which sees only subtle changes take place with a lo-fi drum track, a considerable amount of bonging bass, and a chimingly funky wah melody. The bare-bones production from underground producer Mum's the Word allows Oop to strut his ironically cocksure stuff.

O.C.'s Jewelz Album Anniversary
In 1997, O.C. signed to Pay Day Records, where he released his second album Jewelz, featuring collaborations with DJ Premier, Da Beatminerz and Freddie Foxxx. The single "Far From Yours" peaked at #81 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it his highest-charting single to date. O.C. is also known for his feature on the Clockers soundtrack as part of the Crooklyn Dodgers, which also featured rappers Chubb Rock and Jeru the Damaja on the now classic DJ Premier produced "Return of the Crooklyn Dodgers". Bon Appetit es el tercer álbum de OC lanzado por D.I.T.C.; publicado hoy 24 de abril de 2001 (Algunas fuentes lo datas del 19 de julio de 2001). Fue lanzado bajo el sello discográfico JCOR Entertainment. Conto con la producción de Buckwild, Lord Finesse y Ahmed, además de artistas como The Ghetto Dwellaz, AG y Jay-Z. El álbum no contó con mucha popularidad alcanzando el puesto 84 en la lista US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums (Billboard).
En general obtuvo una calificación de 2,5 de 5 entre Allmusic, HipHopDX.com y RapReviews.
Omar Credle mas conocido como O.C. Credle nació en Brooklyn el 13 de mayo de 1971 y se crió en la sección de Bushwick. Cita leyendas como Kool G. Rap, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane y Slick Rick como sus principales influencias. En 1991, hizo su debut discográfico en "Fudge Pudge" de Organized Konfusion. Un año después hizo una aparición en el remix de "Back to the Grill" de MC Serch (que también presenta a un Nas muy joven) después de conocer a Serch en la gira inaugural de Source. En 1994 conoció a Lord Finesse y Buckwild en la primera gira de Source, marcando su introducción al equipo de D.I.T.C. Después de la gira, se conectó con Buckwild y comenzó a grabar una demostración que se convertiría en su álbum debut Word...Life.
En 1997, O. C. firmó con Pay Day Records, lanzó su segundo álbum Jewelz, con colaboraciones con DJ Premier, Da Beatminerz y Freddie Foxxx. El sencillo "Far From Yours" alcanzó el puesto 81 en el Billboard Hot 100, lo que lo convierte en su sencillo con las listas más altas hasta la fecha. También es conocido por sser parte de Crooklyn Dodgers, que también contó con los raperos Chubb Rock y Jeru the Damaja en el ahora clásico producido por DJ Premier "Return of the Crooklyn Dodgers". Sin embargo, esta es la única vez que el grupo ha colaborado.
