Gin Car Boxer - Intro Post

Hey, what’s up? This is a blog to talk about some recent dating app stuff I’ve been up to. In this post, I want to give readers a quick rundown on what this blog is about, what the content will most likely end up being, and give a quick summary of myself and my situation to contextualise everything.

Gin Car Boxer - what’s with the name?

It’s nonsense. First three words that came to my head, they seemed to mesh well so I decided to roll with it. I also like a good drop of gin.

What’s the deal with the avatar?

Whipped it up in MSpaint in about 5 minutes. I think it looks neat. Just wanted a basic-ass avatar.

What is this blog about?

I recently joined a dating app, and I wanted to talk about it on somewhere that wasn’t my main blog. I’m always blogging on mobile, which means no read-more cuts, so I decided to make a whole new blog to talk about this new world of interactions that I’m having. NSFW details aren’t off the table, but I want any NSFW content to be tasteful.

There are also details I don’t want attached to my blog’s name, as folks in my real life know the URL and I want to talk about things that I haven’t told IRL friends and stuff. I don’t want anyone from my real life doubling back through my blog’s content and finding sensitive information I didn’t want to reveal publicly.

What’s with this secrecy?

It’s all stuff that my friends have indicated that they already know, but the thought of spilling the beans and going public just make me feel sick. I’m not happy where I live, and the less people know about me, the better.

The next paragraph gets into why I’m being sneaky about this. If you don’t want to risk opening a can of worms or uncovering any unexpected bombshell facts about me, this should be the point where you turn back.

Alright. The funny thing is, it’s not really that big of a deal to most, but clearly it’s still something I feel like I need to safeguard.

The reason I’m layering all of this info like this is because I’m bisexual. And the dating app I’ve been using is Grindr.

Why are you making this out to be such a big deal?

Because I’ve grown up around homophobia all my life, and this has always been a part of myself that I’ve kept to myself. Well, me and the internet. I don’t want this leaking into my everyday life, where someone I see almost every day thinks of me like “well, this sure is a guy who loves dick”. I mean my best friend watches shit like Steven Crowder and casually drops the f-slur (meanwhile I’m as left as you can get in a town like mine). I don’t want this being something that I’m known for in my real life.

The thing about my bisexuality is that it is almost exclusively a sexual thing. That might mean that I perpetuate the “slutty disloyal bisexual” stereotype to some, but that’s their baggage. I like having sex with men. I don’t necessarily find men attractive, it’s moreso the act of sex with a man that speaks to me. Making other guys feel like I feel sometimes. It’s honestly a pretty weird fixation.

It’s been a source of curiosity for me since I was 14, and it’s been a decade since then, so this isn’t just a phase and I’m not some bicurious heartbreaker who’s just posing to fit in and hurt people. I’m upfront with what I’m looking for. I know what I want, and I think that’s healthy as long as all involved parties know what they want as well.

It’s because of this that I would rate myself as a 2 on the Kinsey scale - more than incidental attraction to the same sex, but still more of a preference for the opposite sex. The way I’ve phrased it for years has been “Bisexual, heteroromantic”. That’s how I feel in a nutshell.

If this invites a conversation about privilege, or about labels, then that’s fine. I respect anyone who feels differently to how I do in regards to the labels I use, and I can listen to and understand opposing viewpoints. Maybe your definition of bisexuality necessitates a romantic angle to it, and people who enjoy sex with two or more genders without enjoying an emotional connection is a poor representation of bisexuality. Maybe you’re a bi-romantic person who believes that my way of doing things invites a lot of ugly, negative stereotypes to your orientation. I’m not trying to step on any toes here, I want to listen and be better.

But I won’t water myself down and make my feelings more palatable, because while that might be your reality, this is mine. This is undeniably how I feel. I don’t say that to hurt anyone - it is simply my state of being.

I’ll post about my feelings when they crop up from time to time, and I’ll share some stories from my Grindr matches. I might even join Tinder or something, spice this up even more.
