Have you ever gotten in trouble for reading? If so which book and what was the circumstances? In elementary school Jen & I would get sent to the principal’s office for reading Stephen King books. The claim was that by reading these books we were frightening the other children who also wanted to read them. Our Mum, the badass, asked if we were still honor roll students - we were. She said we aren’t going to stop reading at a highschool level because the school didn’t like the material. Instead we had to put covers over the books to hide what we were reading. Years later, I still remember those lessons that some people are misinformed and their fears cloud their judgement. Our Mum taught us if something scares you, you don’t know enough about it so learn more. These two young women went on to be creatively involved in the horror arts as a career, who could have been otherwise discouraged. Behind the scenes on RABID. I will admit this scene is my favorite. SPOILER ALERT.... in this scene Chelsea and Rose talk about how much they sacrificed to be where they are. They dreamed their whole lives of climbing their way to the top. It’s a beautiful scene and while it is exquisitely performed by Hanneke Talbot (Chelsea) and Laura Vandervoort (Rose) it always makes me think about me and Sylv. It’s been a tremendously challenging path we’ve walked and I’ve learned many lessons, one of the most important being do not kill yourself for your job. Live for you. This is also a symptom of self abuse and self harm by denying oneself the help they really need. If you’re tuning out of your life or feel better with a drink or high, you may be trying to get away from something you’re not able to get a resolution from. Take some time to get a clear head and ask yourself what is going on with you. What are you happy with in your life? What are you unhappy with? What would have to change to make you happier about yourself and where you are in your life and where you are heading? Be honest with yourself. Only you can change your reality. Only you can control you. In fact, you are the only thing you have control over in this life so embrace that. If you’re checking out that’s a sign that you need to check back in with yourself. Find out what needs are being unmet and go meet them yourself. You deserve to be able to invest your time and energy in yourself.
