Squall harbored no misconceptions as to the nature of their connection — he’d had his junction chip implanted long enough to know that at times the relationship was tenuous at best, and not every guardian / host pairing was a good fit. Still, there was an understanding between the primal forces and those that summoned them, and Squall expected at least some compliance with those he willingly shared his mind.
A room mate agreement, if you will.
“I’m not asking for your friendship,” he clipped back in a matter-of-fact tone, blue eyes glancing up at the towering beast of flame and sinew as he stuffed the first aid kit back into his rucksack, the cut on his leg no longer festering and bubbling with poison, but would certainly smart for some time.
“But if we’re going to be working together, I’m going to need you a little quicker on the draw next time — we cut that one too close for comfort,” he exhaled, slinging the pack over his shoulder and pushing himself off the log.
Truthfully he couldn’t blame the guardian — Squall had his preferences, and they were well-known; Shiva had always been his most prized companion, thick as thieves from the beginning, and the traces she’d left in him over the years were no doubt insult to the injury of Ifrit himself rarely being a chosen junction for the gunblader, far more suited to Zell or one of the others. But Shiva was on loan at the moment to Rinoa, for he needed a guardian he could entrust with the importance of the young sorceress’ safety in his absence.
Thus, here they were, traipsing the forests of the Galbadian continent, doing their best to suss out some sort of working relationship in the interim.

“A dream, a fantasy, a failed fairytale.”
A shadow of a songstress, somehow living up to the expectations of many and never having the pleasure to know that she’d never reach them. If she’d known who had carefully crafted her from the ether she might’ve had someone to blame or some sort of reason behind her existence. But there’s nothing, no reasoning behind...being a dream.
Instead of putting up a fight, she can’t help but smile, weary eyes showing how she truly felt about the comment.
“Is young right? Isn’t fleeting more appropriate?”
