Dharmendra won the famous Nationally organised Filmfare magazine's new talent award and went to Mumbai from Punjab, to work in the movie promised, being the award winner, but the movie was never made. He later made his debut with Arjun Hingorani's Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere in 1960.[20][21] He had a supporting role in the film Boy Friend in 1961, and was cast as the romantic interest in several films between 1960 and 1967.

Remembering Motilal, Hindi cinema’s one of the first natural actors, on his 107th birth anniversary today.
Motilal Rajvansh (1910–1965) was an Indian film actor and the winner of Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for Devdas (1955) and Parakh (1960).
He also directed the film Chhoti Chhoti Baatein (1965), but died before its release. At the 13th National Film Awards, it won the award for Certificate of Merit for the Third Best Feature Film and he posthumously won the Certificate of Merit for the Best Story Writer.
Born in Shimla on 4 December 1910, Motilal came from a distinguished family from Delhi. His father was a renowned educationist, who died when Motilal was one year old. He was brought up by his uncle who was a well-known civil surgeon in Uttar Pradesh. At first, Moti was sent to an English school at Shimla and later, in Uttar Pradesh (UP). Thereafter, he shifted to Delhi where he continued with school and college.
After leaving college, Moti came to Bombay to join the Navy, but he fell ill and could not appear for the test. Fate had other choices charted out for him. One day, he went to see a film shoot at Sagar Studios, where director K. P. Ghosh was shooting. Motilal, even then, was quite the man about the town and he caught Ghosh's eye. In 1934 (aged 24), he was offered the hero's role in Shaher Ka Jadoo (1934) by the Sagar Film Company. He later featured in several successful social dramas alongside Sabita Devi, including Dr. Madhurika (1935) and Kulvadhu (1937). He worked with Mehboob Khan in Jagirdar (1937) and Hum Tum Aur Woh (1938) under the Sagar Movietone banner, in Taqdeer (1943) for Mehboob Productions, and Kidar Sharma's Armaan (1942) and Kaliyan (1944). He also acted in S. S. Vasan's film Paigham (1959) (Gemini Studios), and Raj Kapoor's Jagte Raho (1956).
In 1965, he also acted in the Bhojpuri film Solaho Singar Kare Dulhaniya.
Perhaps the role for which he received the most critical appreciation was that of the gentleman crook in S. S. Vasan’s adaptation of R K Narayan’s book Mr Sampat (1952). He is most remembered for his role as "Chunni Babu" in Bimal Roy's Devdas (1955), for which he won his first Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award. Actor Naseeruddin Shah once described him as one of three all time best actors of Hindi cinema, others being Balraj Sahni and Yakub.

The Phenomenal creative genius of Panchamda: Bollywood Music industry is still struggling to catch up even after half a century.
Today the world is observing the Death Anniversary of Rahul Dev Burman (27 June 1939 – 4 January 1994) popularly known as Pancham Da.
Music was his life, he use to be always thinking about music, even in his dreams. He could create music out of anything at hand, right from a bunch of keys, Combs, Sand Paper, bamboo, or even physically playing a beat on the back of a shirtless and bewildered session percussionist etc.
Three times winner of Film fare awards,1983 – Best Music Director – Sanam Teri Kasam1984 – Best Music Director – Masoom, 1995 – Best Music Director – 1942: A Love Story and he was nominated for 19 times.
In 1995, Filmfare Awards constituted the Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent in his memory. The award is given to upcoming music talent in Hindi cinema. In 2009, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation named a public squarein Santa Cruz after Burman.
Burman’s first hit film as a film music director was Teesri Manzil (1966) and after this super hit Hussain signed Burman and lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri for six of his films including Baharon Ke Sapne (1967), Pyar Ka Mausam (1969) and Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973). Burman’s score for Padosan (1968) was well received.
He filled the world with his joyful music between 1960s to the 1990s, and composed musical scores for 331 films. He was mainly active in the Hindi film industry as a composer, and also provided vocals for a few compositions. Burman did major work with Asha Bhosle (his wife) and Kishore Kumar and scored many of the songs that made these singers famous. He also scored many songs sung by Lata Mangeshkar. He served as an influence to the next generation of Indian music directors and his songs continue to be popular in India even today. A whole bunch of musicians today make a career and living out of remixing his old tracks
Burman received his early education in West Bengal. His father S. D. Burman was a noted music director in Bollywood, the Mumbai-based Hindi film industry. When he was nine years old, R. D. Burman composed his first song, Aye meri topi palat ke aa, which his father used in the film Funtoosh (1956).
Burman’s first released film as an independent music director was Chhote Nawab (1961). When the noted Bollywood comedian Mehmood decided to produce Chhote Nawab.
Some of the notable films in which Burman is credited as the music assistant include Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958), Kaagaz Ke Phool (1959), Tere Ghar Ke Samne (1963), Bandini (1963), Ziddi (1964), Guide (1965) and Teen Devian (1965). Burman also played mouth organ for his father’s hit composition “Hai Apna Dil To Aawara”, which was featured in the film Solva Saal, and sung by Hemanta Mukhopadhyay.[7]
He revolutionized Bollywood music by bringing wide range of influences from several genres in his scores. Burman’s career coincided with the rise of Rajesh Khanna-starrer youth love stories. He made electronic rock popular in these popular love stories, mixed disco and rock elements with Bengali folk music, used jazz elements, which had been introduced to him by the studio pianist Kersi Lord.
According to Biswarup Sen his popular music can be characterised as one featuring multicultural influences, and characterized by “frenetic pacing, youthful exuberance and upbeat rhythms”.
R D Burman was influenced by Western, Latin, Oriental and Arabic music, and incorporated elements from these in his own music. He also experimented with different musical sounds produced from methods such as rubbing sandpaper and knocking bamboo sticks together.He blew into beer bottles to produce the opening beats of “Mehbooba, Mehbooba”. Similarly, he used cups and saucers to create the tinkling sound for the song “Churaliya Hai” from the film Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973). For Satte Pe Satta (1982), he made the singer Annette Pinto gargle to produce a background sound. He also rubbed a comb on a rough surface to produce a whooshing sound in the song “Meri Samne Wali Khidki Main” from the film Padosan (1968)
Burman continues to inspire many Bollywood music composers and will continue to inspire them in future also. The magic of Pancham da lives on.

Talat Mahmood was one of Hindi films' most unique voices. He found success early as an All India Radio singer when he was just 16. A few popular ghazals afterwards, he proceeded to Calcutta to test his fortune in films. Talat Mahmood began his career as an actor-singer and proceeded to feature in films till 1958 but finally focused completely on singing. His understanding of Urdu and his excellent diction in the language made him a natural choice for ghazals in movies. But, his limited range and the decline of ghazals in movies in the 1960s and 1970s meant he could never become as popular as peers such as Mohammed Rafi and Kishore Kumar. His limited mass appeal aside, Talat's little body of work is of such high quality that he's considered amongst Hindi films' most important voices.
To mark the event of his 92nd birth anniversary on February 24, I list 10 of the most memorable tunes with 10 distinct music directors.
The gentle tremor in Talat Mahmood's singing voice didn't find broad acceptance among Hindi film music directors of this moment. It was Anil Biswas who saw the charm within this tremor and asked Talat to embrace it. The end result was Talat's first strike,'Ae Dil Mujhe Aisi Jaga Le Chal'. My pick is'Shukriya Shukriya' since it features on screen a dashing Talat, who had an acting role in the film.
'Mohabbat Mein Aise Zamane Bhi Aaye' (Sagai, 1951) -- C Ramchandra
Talat Mahmood's best for C Ramchandra was likely for the film Parchhain (1952). Talat sang four lovely songs in the film including the brilliant solo'Mohabbat Hi Na Jo Samjhe' which I listed in C Ramchandra's best 10 songs. 'Mohabbat Mein...' is a miserable song with a remarkably upbeat and lively arrangement consisting of a piano, saxophone and a sitar. It may not be their most popular song together but it's one of the ones that feature Lata and Talat at the peak of the singing skills.
Anil Biswas continued to bat for Talat Mahmood in movies he wasn't connected with. When Shankar--Jaikishan chose to use Mukesh as Dilip Kumar's voice in Daag, it had been Anil da who directed them towards Talat Mahmood. The movie's winner was easily'Ae Mere Dil Kahin Aur Chal' in three different versions-- two Talat solos along with a Lata solo. In the quick variant, Talat's quiver sounds a little strained but at the slow variation he is totally at ease and at his intoxicating best.
Talat's finest for Roshan is readily among his finest ever--'Main Dil Hoon Ek Armaan Bhara'. Roshan ordered this mellow, free-flowing ghazal beautifully as a piano tune and Talat's singing is the embodiment of a heart filled with desire.
OP Nayyar employed Talat Mahmood for just three songs in his entire career. Two out those probably went to Talat simply since he played a lead part in it 'Sone Ki Chidiya' (1958). Considering how great these three songs were, we can only wonder what could have been when OP Nayyar had been open about his selection of singers. My selection of these three songs is the one Talat sang for an actor besides himself--'Mujhe Dekho Hasrat Hi Tasveer Hoon Main' for Guru Dutt.
Apart from being amongst the first couple of films of Shammi Kapoor before he turned into a celebrity, the only notable thing about Thokar was that the magnificent Talat solo,'Ae Ghame Dil Kya Karoon', written by Sardar Malik and composed by Majaz. The film also had a thoroughly competent version of the song by Asha Bhosle, but Talat's version completely overshadowed it.
Footpath was a fine film with some superb acting by Dilip Kumar but remains sadly underrated. Khayyam had to make his mamark, bute gave the audiences a glimpse of his immense talent in'Shaam-E-Gham Ki Kasam'. Seeing Dilip's understated performance in this song, it becomes clear why Talat's gentle but true voice was a perfect match for the legendary actor.
SD Burman experimented with Talat as Dev Anand's voice in Arman(1953) and in Taxi Driver (1954) before switching entirely into his two favourites, Kishore Kumar and Mohammed Rafi. SD Burman's move away from Talat occurred despite the achievement of Taxi Driver. The film's score won SD Burman the Filmfare Award for Best Music Manager and in the very first year the radio show Binaca Geetmala had the yearly countdown of bethe bestongs, Talat's version of'Jaayen To Jaayen Kahan' hit the number 1 place.
