In a bewildered commentary on American food sizing, I would like to belatedly comment that when I go to an ice cream place and order the size that is one size SMALLER than the ‘small’, I do not expect to receive an ice cream so large that I literally had to dump half of it in the trash and just eat the cone.
it was good ice cream! but it nearly ate ME
there was admittedly a size even smaller on the menu, but I assumed that the smallest size would be, like, an itty bitty for someone who wants to try out a new flavor.
when these are the sizes do you really expect that ‘Baby’ size is going to be already beyond human comprehension???
(looking up some reviews for some of their locations other people do comment that everything is way bigger than you’d expect and should be shared)

When I'm putting together a project and I need to fill it with content that doesn't exist yet, I usually turn to the tried and true Lorem Ipsum generator. But sometimes, I want to have a little fun with my projects.
So here's a list of 60+ text generators (in alphabetical order) to zhuzh up your projects. Just don't be like me and forget to replace them with something appropriate when you share them with the world (a mistake I will likely continue to make).

Re-listening to the Wheel of Time, specifically The Eye of the World. Just barely seeing the first glimpses of what I recall will be an irritatingly long time of the Two Rivers boys not trusting Moiraine as much as they definitely should, all because she’s an Aes Sedai, but it bothers me a little less this time with the benefit of hindsight.
Sure, Moiraine is a good egg, but the vast majority of Aes Sedai definitely should not be spared at least some amount of suspicion. The pieces of advice they’ve all received about how “Aes Sedai do things for reasons that aren’t always what you think” and they “don’t always speak the truth you think you hear” would be legitimately good advice if they applied it to anyone but Moiraine and a select few others. As much as it may be frustrating, I must admit that it’s not only in-character, but also perfectly reasonable for them to be so cautious.
In light of this, Egwene being super on-board with learning to channel is honestly the more surprising behavior. Hasn’t she heard the same tidbits of advice the other Emond’s Fielders have heard? Then again, she’s been anxious to leave her hometown behind since the very beginning, and certainly Moiraine has done plenty to convince her that she’s one of the good guys. She’s probably willfully ignoring the warnings she’s been hearing because it better suits her existing worldview that life will be better and more interesting beyond the bounds of the Two Rivers. Out of the four of them she’s certainly the most adventurous, being the only one to leave home by choice as opposed to out of necessity.
Still, as good of a choice it is for Egwene to trust Moiraine specifically, it pains me to recall the degree to which blindly trusting an Aes Sedai will cause suffering for her in the next book, with (spoiler) Liandrin handing her off to the Seanchan and some of the most traumatic experiences of her life. What a cruel lesson to teach a wide-eyed girl who dreams of adventure. But I digress.
Time will tell if my attitude toward this piece of conflict will remain positive as my re-read continues. If memory serves, a lot of the conflict in these books is founded on an unnecessary lack of communication, and I can easily see this lack of trust taking a turn in that direction if it overstays its welcome, which I suspect it will. We’ll see, I suppose. Back to listening for me. Further updates will probably follow.

The focus on Rand's relationship with Tam is something I'm really missing from the show and it makes me sad. Granted we can't see inside Rand's head so we can't see how he feels about being adopted or even his father's sword being melted (though the second one still has time to be addressed, too much going on in the finale). The most important thing though is we get the emotional payoff of Tam saving Rand from himself and that moment when Rand breaks down crying and hugs Tam in ToM. I just hope they'll be able to pull it off cause we didn't get enough screentime with Rand and Tam imo to show how much Tam means to Rand. Tam does have a big role in Battle of the Two Rivers though so maybe these things can be fleshed out in s3
i got pretty much this same ask a couple weeks ago, so most of my thoughts are there and i only have 1 new thing to add:
parent-child is a type of relationship that audiences will instinctively understand the depth & weight of without needing to be shown abundant screentime of the characters interacting or talking/thinking about each other. (similar to spousal relationships - one reason why they went with perrin killing an invented wife over master luhhan is that for a marital relationship, the audience won't require extended scenes establishing the relationship in order to feel the weight of the death.)
what i mean by this is: parent-child relationships being a shortcut to natural emotional connection from the audience + audience spending time with both characters apart from each other and getting to know them + maybe a few lines here and there about how they miss each other = still emotional as all hell to see them reunite towards the end of the show, after everything rand's been through. they don't need to spend much time at all on this relationship prior to that reunion moment in order for that moment to hit.
also, it bears repeating from my first post: the show has extremely limited time at its disposal compared to the books, so it has to be strategic in selecting which relationships to focus on and which to leave in the background. and since choices have to be made, then rand's relationships with his fellow emond's fielders are far more important to the overall story than his relationship with tam. they just are. that isn't to say his relationship with tam will never be touched on again ever just because it wasn't in season 2, but it will never be as important as the EF5 relationships and that is the right call.

Bears Take Series On Another Walk-Off
Cal Scores 3 in 9th to Stun #5 Oregon State
BERKELEY – The California baseball team's magic in the late innings continued when the Golden Bear scored three in the ninth to walk it off against No. 5 Oregon State, winning 8-7 on Saturday night at Stu Gordon Stadium.
With the win, Cal (23-14, 10-10 Pac-12) secures its first series victory over a top-5 team since the Bears swept No. 3 Oregon State March 24-26, 2016. The late-inning heroics began when Nico Button legged out an infield single to open the ninth off Oregon State closer Bridger Holmes (2-3). PJ Moutzouridis drew a walk to put runners on first and second. A throwing error on OSU first baseman Jacob Krieg allowed Jarren Advincula to reach safely and Button to score.
That ended the afternoon for Homes who went 1.0 complete, allowing a hit and three runs, non-earned with a walk and two strikeouts. New pitcher Noah Ferguson intentionally walked Caleb Lomavita to load the bases with no outs. Ferguson then hit Rodney Green Jr. to bring the tying run in and the winning run at third. After a strikeout, Carson Crawford drew a bases-loaded walk on five pitches allowing the winning run to cross the plate. It is Cal's fifth walk-off win of the season and second of the series.
The win went to Robert Aivazian (2-0) who pitched brilliantly over the final 2.1 innings. He did not allow a batter to reach and recorded two strikeouts.
For the second straight day, the Bears struck first. Cal scored the game's opening run in the bottom of the first inning when Green Jr. reached safely on a fielder's choice that allowed Moutzouridis to score. The freshman opened the contest with a single to center field and moved to third on the base hit from Lomavita.
Cal added a run in the second on a solo home run from Jag Burden. It was his first of the year and third of his career. Burden smashed a 2-2 offering over the right field fence off starter Jacob Kmatz to give the Bears a 2-0 lead.
The Beavers got Kmatz off the hook by scoring three in the fourth and two more in the sixth and seventh innings. In the fourth, a base hit and a walk put two on for Travis Bazzana who launched a ball the opposite way for his 19th home run of the season. In the sixth, a bases-loaded walk to Bazzana and a sac fly off the bat of Mason Guerra gave the Beavers a 5-2 lead.
Cal scored a run in the home half thanks to an RBI double down the right field line from Green Jr., which scored Advincula from second. Green Jr. finished the day 1-for-3 with three RBIs and has extended his season-best hitting streak to nine games.
OSU added two more in the seventh when Dallas Macias singled to right field which scored a pair of runs.
The Bears began their comeback in the bottom of the seventh. Seth Gwynn led off the inning with a solo home run to deep left center. It was his fifth home run of the year and second of the series. In the eighth inning, Lomavita smashed a solo home run off reliever AJ Hutcheson, it was Lomavita's 12th of the year and 35th of his career.
Ian May got the start for the Bears. He went 2.0 complete, surrendering a hit and three walks, he did not allow a run. OSU's Kmatz went 5.1 innings, allowing three hits, and three runs, with a walk and five strikeouts in the no-decision.
Cal looks to complete the sweep today at 1:05 p.m. Sunday's game will be streamed on Pac-12 Insider.

BASEBALL PRIMER: Terminology
Here is the tag where you can find all the posts.
Listed below are some terminology that is commonly used. It's probably been used in other instances already, but oh boy am I not doing this list in any good order.
Balk - an illegal motion by the pitcher. If there are runners on base, all runners regardless of spot are allowed to advance one base. There's a lot of pitching motions that can result in a balk, but the primary idea is that you're giving the batter or runners on base the 'idea' you're going to pitch, but you never intend to deliver it.
Base - points on the diamond that must be touched by the runner in order to score a run.
Batter - the player currently positioned in the batter's box.
Batter's Box - area on either side of home plate in which the batter stands to hit.
Bunt - a legally batted ball. A batter doesn't swing at it, but instead intentionally tries to tap the ball with the bat into the infield.
Catch - act of a fielder in getting secure possession in his hand or glove of a ball in flight and firmly holding it.
Defense - team currently on the field
Double Header - two games being played on the same day
Double Play - a defensive play in which two offensive players are put out as a result of one continuous action.
Dugout - area where the players currently not on the field sit
Fair Ball - a legally batted ball that is within the foul lines
Fair Territory - any space from third to first that is within the foul lines.
Fielder - one of nine defensive players on the field
Fielder's Choice - a fielder who handles a fair ball throwing to another base other than first in order to get a preceding runner out.
Fly Ball - ball that goes high in the air when batted.
Force Play - play in which a runner loses his right to occupy a base when the current batter becomes a runner.
Foul Ball - a ball that is batted back behind home plate, or on the outside of the foul lines.
Foul Territory - the space on the opposite side of the foul lines, usually running along the dugouts.
Ground Ball - a batted ball that rolls along the ground
Ground Rule Double - when a ball in the outfield hits the ground and bounces over the outfield wall. Batter ends up at second base.
Infield - the diamond shaped area of the field that borders the bases. the base paths of the infield are dirt.
Infielder - a player who occupies a position in the infield
Infield Fly - a fair fly ball which can be caught by an infielder, which first and second, or first, second and third bases are occupied before the second out. Infield Fly Rule: On the infield fly rule the umpire is to rule whether the ball could ordinarily have been handled by an infielder not by some arbitrary limitation such as the grass, or the base lines. The umpire's judgment must govern, and the decision should be made immediately. When an infield fly rule is called, runners may advance at their own risk. If on an infield fly rule, the infielder intentionally drops a fair ball, the ball remains in play.
Line Drive - a ball batted directly to a fielder without touching the ground.
Offense - the team currently at-bat.
Outfield - the portion of the field that expands past the infield, bordered by the first and third base lines
Outfielder - a player that occupies the position in the outfield
Quick Return Pitch - an illegal pitch intended to make the batter off balance
Runner - an offensive player who is advancing towards or touching any base
Tag - a fielder touching a base or a person with the ball in their glove or hand

- let’s be honest, he probably does not need an assistant.
- but he begged his producers until they finally allowed him to interview a few people for the job.
- sure, he could’ve used an unpaid intern but where’s the fun in that?
- the interviews would be… unusual.
When you walked in, you were greeted by a scrawny guy in a standard office space. You guys shook hands and exchanged names before the actual interview.
“So.. Um, here we help small businesses in unique ways,” He started. His hands waving around manically.
Nathan later explains it’s basically just a mock reality show where he tries unique (outrageous) ways to help businesses and people.
“Do you actually help the companies or…” You trailed off.
“Sometimes.” He stated. “Anyways, you’ll be doing tasks I don’t want to do.”
Then came the boring questions; you’re experience, what you’re like in the work place, if you’re single.
- obviously you got the job, he didn’t have a lot of choices anyway (in his own words).
- you do easy tasks: take notes, post craigslist ads, look for the businesses/people, sometimes you do nathan’s laundry.
- he reads all of your notes or makes you read them out to him.
“Write that down.” He would say.
“Y/N, why did you write that he has a small penis?”
“I think it’s relevant.”
- he likes to lean over you while you’re doing something.
- like you’ll be on your laptop, busy, and he’ll come over and just hover over you for five minutes minimum.
- has you write down all his ideas, even if you told him there’s no way he can legally do that.
- asks you on opinions on things irrelevant to your line of work.
“Be honest, does my shirt match my pants?”
“I really don’t think it matters since it’s a suit ten times too big for you, Nathan.”
- makes you hangout with him; an early breakfast before walking to work together, forces you to come over for “important business” when he just wants someone to talk to, etc.
- brings coffee some days, has you bring coffee the next day.
- drives around with you because he says it’s “more efficient.”
- when he asked you out, he did it in his office. he was leaned over slightly, obviously flustered.
“I’ve been wanting to ask you out for dinner for awhile but I thought there might be a conflict of interests here.” He rambled on until you finally cut him off the answer.
“Sure! Sounds fun.” Things began from there.
- he’ll have you walk with him, his hand resting on your lower back.
- he doesn’t make you do his laundry (alone) anymore.- of course you still do your usual work, but he’s nicer when he orders you around at least.
“Hey, I’m going to need to you pick all of this up for me.” He’d say passing a list of items to you.
You read over the list and paused, “Okay.. I understand the cat food and milk but how am I going to find a five yard tube?”
“I don’t know, they don’t have it at Home Depot or something?”
- he doesn’t really like pda, especially on set.
- he’s okay with it in the office though; he’ll come up behind you while you’re getting something from the break room, makes you take a nap with him on his couch, whatever.
- i just feel like he’s not the type to put his relationship out there in front of everyone.
- writes flirty notes in your notebook when he’s reading your notes over;

The episode structure of season 2 seems to strongly mirror that of season 1.
101 introduce us to all the characters together in a single setting, with a slight emphasis on the rand’s POV. 201 reintroduces us to all the characters and how they’ve grown apart, emphasizing Rand’s absence from the others’ lives.
102 introduces new threats, The Whitecloaks and the darkness of Shadar Logoth, it ends with the heroes divided but the return of Nyneave. 202 introduces new faces that seem to be allies, Elayne and Selene, the villains are more united than before, as we see Ishamael with the Seanchan, and it ends with Nyneave leaving.
103 focuses on the heroes, separated, reeling from this loss, unsure who they can and can’t trust, and forced to make choices without moiraine’s guidance. It ends with each of them gaining new allies. 203 has nyneave and eggy separated, eggy reeling from the loss, nyneave unsure what’s even real. Mat doesn’t know where to go and falls back on Min. Rand seeks guidance from logain. Moiraine doesn’t appear at all. It ends with each of them failing to gain new allies. eggy makes enemies with Liandrin, logain refuses to teach rand, Perrin believes the wolves are of the Dark, and nyneave’s daughter doesn’t come through the final arch with her.
This parallel is the most tenuous but it makes sense to me idk
104 focuses on a powerful new threat (logain) that’s been caged while rand struggles to be a good friend and Perrin struggles to find peace with himself after his failures. It ends with the threat still caged and the reveal of nyneave’s insane power level. 204 highlights a threat that’s just been set free, (Lanfear), while moiraine struggles to be a good sister and lan struggles to find peace with himself after past failures. It ends with the reveal of who lanfear actually is, she’s momentarily beaten but she remains a threat.
Im gonna make predictions on the rest of the season now:
105 focused a lot on a newcomer to the cast who served lan’s arc, while having Rand connect with friends new and old, meanwhile egwene and Perrin are captured by whitecloaks and freed by wolves. 205 will feature Liandrin in the ways and loial under Seanchan control pretty heavily, which will set up for egwene in the next episode. Rand will attempt to burn his bridges with Moiraine, Siuan, Logain and any Cairhienin nobility bc he thinks he should run away some more and that’s the best thing for him. Oh and Selene/Lanfear, who’ll fight back. Perrin and the wolves will help the Aiel only to immediately need help from them back (mirroring Avi’s intro from the books but switching which Emonds fielder she meets first).
106 is a fully moiraine POV episode, culminating in the EF5 back together again, but mat leaves. 206 will be 70% egwene in falme. She helps nyneave and elayne escape, gets captured, becomes damane, it gets DARK AS HELL, which is why I don’t think that’ll be the whole episode… I think they’ll break it up with mat POV of him arriving in Cairhien and discovering mins betrayal and his insane luck stat. Lan’ll arrive with news from the tower that the WONDERGIRLS are missing and Perrin is captured, and mat and min will go with him to find moiraine and Rand.
107 and 108 each have flashbacks to the Aiel war and the age of legends respectively. We basically get the ways, calm in Fal Dara, Mo and Rand go off alone, they find the Eye, then final battles for all. 207 will open with a flashback to Mo and Siuan seeing the vision of when the dragon reborn’s birth. Present day we get rand Flickering the Cairhien group to Falme. It’s not as long of a timeskip as in the books because we’ve already had such big timeskips in the show already. Perrin reunites with Ingtar and drama ensues. avi joins nyn and elayne. Avi and elayne have love at first sight. 208 has another lews therin cold open, maybe the book one prologue maybe not idk. From there we get a big battle sequence that fuses elements of books 2 and 3’s climaxes with some twists along the way that make sense for how the show has changed things idk. But rand is in the sky and Mat blows the horn. by the end Ishy will be super dead, masema will be worshipping rand and avi will have told rand that he comes with the Dawn and needs to come to the Waste. Mo might even be channeling again, but her and her Dragon will not learn their lesson and will try to go to the waste alone. Mat and eggy manage to join but are super pissed at Rand for faking his death for like a year and trying to leave again. Perrin, upon realizing he’s been left, resolve to return to the two rivers. One of Alanna’s warders, idc which one, dies in the big battle and she’s pissed about it. She gotta take elayne back to the tower but she’s met rand by this point and has her eye on him as a replacement. Elayne has eyes on rand too but in a more wholesome “I wanna be part of this EF5 friendgroup and mayyyyyybe have a 3way with the Aiel lady and the dragon reborn” way. Nyneave and lan will get grouped together but idk if they’ll end up with Perrin in the two rivers or if being powerless against the Seanchan will convince nyneave that there’s good she can do in the Tower.
Post credit scene of lanfear still at large. The end.

I think my being a rand appreciator does lend more legitimacy to my opinion of him being an utter idiot. a very traumatised idiot overcompensating for everything in the worst ways possible, but still an idiot. most of what he does in the books is him mounting disproportionate responses to any crises he’s forced to confront - and that’s entirely understandable, but it doesn’t always turn out well for him or his relationships. rand, panicking about his parentage and trying to wrap his identity as an emond’s fielder tight around himself even as he’s gradually walking down the path to accepting a larger identity -> looks at egwene easily shedding her connection to her home and gets mad at her because she has the choice to do so while he doesn’t. rand, who’s terrified of his abilities and leaps headfirst into the opportunity to learn new things looking at egwene embrace the side of her that can channel and indulge her natural curiosities -> decides that her choice to train her abilities and inevitably associate herself with the white tower means that she can’t be trusted but she goes out of her way to betray moiraine’s trust and help him. rand, so stuck on the idea of the white tower (and wise ones) turning his own friends against him and threatening his sense of autonomy and selfhood -> refuses to trust his childhood friend and her advice because he’s paranoid, even when she explicitly picks his side over everybody else’s and follows him everywhere until she’s physically removed from his side by outside forces.
local man hates self-recognition through the other! he immediately proceeds to destroy those relationships as soon as he starts to identify those similarities (his pathological avoidance of dealing with his trauma like mat and allowing himself to be emotionally vulnerable + his tendency to ignore the personal costs that circumstances might demnad of him like moiraine + the sheer amount of importance both he and egwene place in remaining in control. etc.)

7. Any worldbuilding you’re particularly proud of?
'Proud' might be the wrong word because part of me wonders if all the time spent was really worthwhile but I guess I'm pleased with the thoroughness of my baseball AU! I spent so long choosing fielding positions and spots in the batting lineup for all the Jedi and the Sith and it barely even comes up in the story! Does it matter that Kit Fisto is the right fielder? No! And yet that is the position he plays in my mind. All my choices are Correct and I wish we lived in a world where Anakin was a bratty starting pitcher (and I'm not just saying that because my team was immediately eliminated again).
23. What’s a trope, AU, or concept you’ve never written, but would like to?
There are so many AUs that I've sort of sketched out in my mind but have failed at turning into stories. Like my pirate fic or my werewolf fic, both of which would be very fun probably! I also wonder about a soulmate AU at some point. I feel like there was a moment those were super popular across all fandoms and I never got into them but I bet I could do something fun with obikin soulmates. Let these men be even weirder about each other!!!
25. What other websites or resources do you use most often when you write?
Wookieepedia by far, I think. I also look at that list of Clone Wars episodes by chronological order because sometimes I can't remember if Umbara has happened or whether a character has died yet because that show is a mess to puzzle out sometimes.
Then I guess it depends on the AU 🤔 I use pinterest for any outfit heavy fic! I don't think I'm good at describing clothing so it helps translate my vague horniness into something coherent (I hope)!

Yankees Win Series Against the Blue Jays, Spoil Their Playoff Hopes

Game 1
RHP Michael King, who has been strong as a replacement starter, got the ball for the New York Yankees versus RHP Kevin Gausman (a former Baltimore Orioles pitcher and Yankees nemesis) and the Toronto Blue Jays.
The offense for both teams was abysmal and nonexistent for the first eight innings. This was in part due to the dominant pitching of the Yankees and Blue Jays.
King did get himself in trouble while pitching in the bottom of the third inning. After he got LF Daulton Varsho to pop out for the first out, King gave up a single to C Alejandro Kirk.
Next, once CF Kevin Kiermaier grounded into a force-out for the second out, King walked RF George Springer and SS Bo Bichette to load the bases.
The scoring threat ended when King was able to strike out 1B Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. looking for the third out. That was certainly a trick out of Houdini’s playbook for King.
The Yankees threatened to score in the top of the seventh inning when DH Giancarlo Stanton hit a 2B off Gausman with one out.
The brain puzzler in this situation was this: with a guy in scoring position who no longer has speed, why wasn’t a pinch-runner used for Stanton?
Maybe the reason was that Yankees manager Aaron Boone didn’t want to use RF and part-time DH Aaron Judge to bat in Stanton’s place in the lineup because he wanted to rest Judge and completely give him an off-day from this game.
There might have been other options other than Judge as a pinch-hitter in Stanton’s spot, who knows? Either way, it would’ve been better to use someone like utility outfield Jake Bauers to pinch-run for Stanton at that moment.

Anyone other than Stanton should’ve been placed at second base because in the next at-bat, 3B Isiah Kiner-Falefa hit a 1B off Gausman, but Stanton couldn’t score on it.
With Stanton at third base and IKF at first base, RF Oswaldo Cabrera was at the plate. Before Cabrera made contact with the ball, IFK stole second base off Gausman, his 14th stolen base this season.
With two baserunners now in scoring position, Cabrera hit a ball that seemed like an RBI single. Unfortunately, Stanton was thrown out at home and Cabrera reached first base on a fielder’s choice.
With two outs already made in this inning, Oswald Peraza flew out to Springer in right field for the third out and Gausman worked out of trouble.
It all came down to the top of the ninth inning with reliever Jordan Romano pitching for the Jays. 2B Gleyber Torres hit a leadoff 1B of Romano to get things started for the Yankees.
In the next at-bat, C Austin Wells hit a two-run HR – his third in his MLB career – off Romano, giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead and final score of the game.
Game 2
RHP and Cy Young candidate Gerrit Cole pitched for the Yankees against RHP José Berríos and the Jays.
The scoring began in the top of the fourth inning when Judge as the RF hit a two-run HR off Berríos, scoring 1B DJ LeMahieu and Judge himself. The Yankees led 2-0.
In the top of the fifth inning, Stanton hit a two-run RBI 1B off Berríos, scoring C Ben Rortvedt and Judge. The Yankees extended their lead to 4-0. Torres was thrown out at home for the third out of the inning.

In the top of the seventh inning, Judge hit another two-run HR in this game, but it was off reliever Trevor Richards this time. Peraza and Judge scored, further extending the Yankees lead to 6-0.
This score would hold up, giving the Yankees the win in this game and the series win in general. Cole pitched a complete shutout game against the Jays with his family in attendance.
Game 3
RHP Luke Weaver was looking to be dominant like he was in his last start with the Yankees. Weaver went up against RHP Chris Bassitt for the Jays.
Unfortunately for Weaver and the Yankees, all of the scoring was done by the Jays and it began in the bottom of the third inning. Varsho hit a solo HR off Weaver, giving the Jays a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, 3B Matt Chapman hit a solo HR off Weaver, extending the Jays lead to 2-0.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, 2B Cavan Biggio hit an RBI single off reliever Greg Weissert, scoring Bichette. This insurance run gave the Jays a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, DH Brandon Belt hit a three-run HR off reliever Zach McAllister, scoring Varsho and Springer along with Belt. The Jays now led 6-0 and won by this score.
The Yankees offense was shut down by Bassitt and the Jays bullpen.

Live fast, die young: Amy Winehouse
Amy Winehouse had a turbulent and tragic life, full of fame and an active love life. She had a remarkable voice, unique style and crowds of fans, but also erratic behaviour and substance-abuse problems. Dramatic events which accompanied her throughout her life, had a significant impact on her career and life choices. In spite of her gifted talent, her destiny wasn't kind to her at all.
Amy was born September 14, 1983 in the family of a pharmacist and taxi driver. Her parents divorced when she was 9 years old. Early in her childhood she appeared with an unusual sense of style and was even expelled from school because of the nose ring. Nothing captivated her attention for long, except music. When Amy sang, she became liveable and cheerful. She dreamed about fame and a career as a musician, and early in life attempted to make it happen.
During her youth, she was exposed to many different musical styles and for a while even wad a part of a rap band. On one audition the producer noticed her deep and specific vocal, a powerful contralto, and after that she got her first record deal. At that point she was only 18 years old.
The album which brought her success was 'Back to Black', which she released in 2006. This work made her a world famous star and the icon of young people who suffer from addiction, love and mental problems. 'Back to Black' became one of the best-selling albums in UK history and brought her a large following.
Over the years she created her own unique appearance, which was recognisable to anyone who saw her at least once. She was inspired by soul girl groups and mixed this image with her own additions, which had an impressive effect. Thin and fragile, with jet-black hair, tatttos and bold make-up, she captivated the attention of anyone. On stage, Amy always had a beehive hairdo and Cleopatra-style make up: bold red lipstick, thick brows and heavy eyeliner. These details created her trademark look, to which she stayed true throughout her life. Her image became recognisable, as was her voice.
From 2001 to 2011 she built a successful career as a singer and songwriter. However, her life and fame was overshadowed by her dramatic private life, substance abuse, and alcoholism. She was haunted by a wast of personal demons: fear of performing and staying on stage in front of the public, alcohol and drug issues, anorexia and bulimia.
Moreover, the complicated relationship with ón-again, off-again' boyfriend worsened the situation. She met Blake Fielder-Civil in one of the pubs, which she visited quite often in an attempt to de-stress after concerts. Even though he was a heroin addict and had problems with the police, she fell in love with him immediately. Their relationship was full of chaos and drama. Amy's friend said later that 'ít was a total mutual wreck, spiced with blood and fights'. They abused drugs together and it was Blake who introduced Amy to heroin, crack cocaine and self-harming.
After a while Blake broke up with her, but then came back and they got married. They stayed together only for two years and then divorced, whereupon Amy began to abuse drugs and lost weight due to anorexia. Shortly thereafter, her grandmum, with whom Amy had a deep and intimate relationship, passed away. After that Amy finally lost control of her life. She had drunken performances, cancelled concerts and even tours, for which the people booed her. Once she was arrested for the use of marijuana, another time she was jailed for a bar fight.
Amy's mental illnesses and drug addictions became so severe that her manager sent her to rehab, but it was too late. She was psychologically destroyed by tragic events in her life, drugs, alcohol, and love failures. Amy died at the age 27 from alcohol poisoning on July 23, 2011. Her bodyguard found her in her London house.
