" Akihiko makes Minako’s life happier. "
relationships: akihiko/femc, minor/implied yukari/mitsuru, minor junpei/chidori, femc & her friends in general tws: minor character death, persona 3 spoilers, hurt/comfort wc: 501 extra: femc is called minako, i havent played her route yet so there may be inconsistencies, and this was a vent fic where i projected on her sorry.
read on ao3!
These days, Minako’s life was more than hectic.
There was the obvious having to unpack from the school trip, but she wished that was all.
School duties were immediately dropped back onto her; the student council had her running around everywhere for any reason Hidetoshi could think of, and the ever growing list of clubs and activities she had signed up for and joined also kept her busy.
(Seriously, who told her it was a good idea to have so many engagements?)
On top of that, things weren’t calm either at the dorm. The entirety of SEES was on edge, stuck in this weird place where none of them knew what to do next. Ikutsuki had died, and the Dark Hour still existed, but they had defeated all the Full Moon shadows already… As the leader, it was Minako’s duty to decide when to go to Tartarus again, if they even went.
That’s putting aside Mitsuru’s current situation; grieving her father, and definitely depressed - although she seemed to be feeling better after the trip. Her and Yukari had also grown closer. Hm.
Not to mention, Junpei also seemed to not be feeling well. Something about Chidori?… Whenever Minako asked, he’d brush it off or completely ignore her.
And Aigis’ weird obsession with that new student, Ryoji… If Minako could go one day without hearing about how he was dangerous from her, she’d cheer. Still, she had to admit something was off about him.
And finally, Minako herself was still grieving. She still hadn’t gotten over Shinjiro’s death, and as much as she tried to deny it by showing off her cheerful persona and her bright smile, it had affected her more than she’d like to admit.
All her problems seemed to disappear whenever she was with Akihiko, though. He made her feel lighter. Akihiko was close to Shinjiro too; he understood. Akihiko was worried about the rest of SEES too; he understood. Akihiko was worried about Minako. He helped.
He stood waiting for her in front of the student council room, when meetings ended late, and walked her home, just like she had done a few months prior when she still had the time to wait for him after practice. Sometimes he even bought her a snack; anything to cheer her up.
When they were in Tartarus, Akihiko always checked on her, making sure she wasn’t overworking herself, and pushed for her to take breaks when needed.
He even went out of his way to keep an eye on her in the dorm. He took care of her. Woke her up early to bring her on his runs. Sometimes even cooked for her, if Minako was feeling especially tired. Akihiko may not have been the most emotionally intelligent person she knew, but he still did his best to love Minako.
Whenever Minako was with Akihiko, she felt light.
Whenever Minako was with Akihiko, it was April again, and her only problem was whether or not she’d make friends in Port Island.

What Persona 5: The Royal is and what it isn’t
We still genuinely don’t know what this game is, but people are acting like a remake is a foregone conclusion. Even some games journalists are reporting it as fact. While it’s still a possibility, it is not at all a fact.
What we do know for certain
1 - It’s an RPG
So we know for certain it's not a fighting game or anything else anyone was theorising about.
2 - It’s only been announced for the PS4
Which points away from it being an enhanced rerelease like golden or p3p. Rereleases are meant to reach a new audience, so I would expect the game to release on Switch and possibly PC in addition to PS4. And yes I know about FES, but Final Mix/Directors cut type games just aren't a thing in the age of DLC. And yes, it could still be announced for switch, but if that’s a major selling point why not lead with that?
Rereleasing a game on the same platform two years later makes no sense. However releasing a sequel or sidequel makes perfect sense.
3 - The girl shown in the trailer is a Shujin 1st year
Shujin students wear lapel pins with 1, 2 or 3 on to show what year they are. She’s clearly wearing a 1 pin. This means she isn’t simply a genderswapped AkiRen, and most likely has a different backstory and different problems, as a 1st year wouldn’t be as much of an outsider as a transfer student.
4 - The girl says she disapproves of the Phantom thieves.
This again points away from an enhanced rerelease, as she does not appear to be a member of the phantom thieves or sympathetic to them. It could be that A-She’s lying while being interrogated, or B - She changes her mind later, but in isolation there’s no reason to assume this.  If this is an enhanced port, I would guess FeMC isn’t just a genderbend, but has a majorly different route.
Bonus 1- She looks like a main character
If you look at the character designs in P5, you’ll see that Akiren’s Design is clear, simple, and is a reflection of the game’s aesthetic as a whole, while the other characters have twists and pops of colour to set them apart. You can see the same in P3 and P4. Her design is simple, and again a pure reflection of the games aesthetic, but leaning more towards the red than the black. This is why I feel that she isn’t simply an additional phantom thief.
Bonus 2 - Persona 5 sold well enough to justify a sequel
Persona 5 sold 2.2m copies - that’s twice as many as persona 4 and P4G combined, and persona 4 got a bunch of spinoffs. It doesn’t need to rerelease the game on the same platform to get more players, they need to give their existing fans more
And how many of those people would repurchase and replay a hundred-hour game just for some bonus content? People with the cash don’t have the time, people with the time don’t have the cash, vice-versa. It would take a full sequel to make it worth the time/money for many of those people.
Bonus 3 - There are more than one P5 related projects in development
So a P4G style enhanced port for the switch is still in the running, it’s just not necessarily P5R.
So while it still could be a golden style enhanced re-release, I believe the scant evidence we do have points in a different direction.

Re-imagining Persona 3 Portable’s Social Links: Part 2.5
Much like this post revisited Part 1, this post will revisit Part 2 of me essentially re-writing P3P, with this post in particular covering how I imagine the new Social Links/romances for the FeMC would work, as well as thoughts on her version of The Answer; I’m basing this off Alt #3 in the first link.
Kikuno’s is the one I’m having the most trouble figuring out. I feel like she would approach you first, maybe asking you to help watch over Mitsuru since you’ll be around her more often as a member of both SEES and the student council. For a hangout place, I’m thinking either Be Blue V or Chagall Cafe, the former because it used to be the accessory shop and Kikuno is proficient in making equipment. Over time, you’ll start to learn more about her, including her friendship with Mitsuru and being a subject of the same experiment that produced Strega. Still trying to figure out what her Memento should be; I’m thinking some kind of handmade accessory? Maybe the Handmade Choker since I’ve given Kenji the boot.
For Jin and Takaya, I’ve settled on you meeting Jin online after the June Full Moon Operation, but meeting him in-person after the first or second rank instead of the third or fourth; Takaya’s Social Link still starts with him tagging along to the meeting. Jin can be found at Iwatodai Station and Takaya at Port Island Station, both during the day for obvious reasons. Both Social Links will pause after a couple more ranks until the August Full Moon Operation, then resume (with full knowledge of who they are and what they’re about) until the October Full Moon Operation.
If Takaya’s Social Link is maxed before the October Full Moon Operation, he won’t kill Shinji; I’m still trying to figure out how events will play out instead, because Ken probably would’ve succeeded in his little murder-suicide if Takaya hadn’t shown up. I really like the idea of fighting Shadow Shinji, Jin, Takaya, and Chidori to help them get their Personas under control without suppressants--and even join your party after a brief hospital stay--but in Strega’s case, those boss fights are set to happen if you’ve maxed out their Social Links before a deadline, so they’d have to either make Shinji’s Social Link rank up automatically (or at least start automatically, to justify why this doesn’t happen for the MC) or have the Shadow Shinji boss fight happen no matter what; I kinda prefer the latter, because it fits with the party members having their own character development outside of the player’s involvement, and Shadow Shinji still provides delicious, delicious angst for Akihiko and Ken. (Shadow Shinji also provides a good reason for Takaya to nope out of there even if he isn’t maxed.)
Jin and Takaya’s Social Links pause again for the month of October; Shadow Jin and Takaya boss fight on November 3 if you maxed out Takaya before October 4. (If you just maxed out Jin, he’ll be conflicted but ultimately side with Takaya) And I’ve decided for sure that they’ll fill out the FeMC’s last two slots for romance options; Jin will be the tsundere one a la Yukari, and the best way I can describe Takaya's feelings for the FeMC is how Zenos yae Galvus feels about the Warrior of Light in Final Fantasy XIV, where he’s both depressed and horny on main at once. Still don’t know what their Mementos should be, and with them and Shinji being around for the Christmas date (and Junpei replacing Ken as a romance option), I need to come up with Christmas presents as well.
Romancing Junpei before he meets Chidori will result in them being just friends, though Junpei will be like Akihiko where you pretty much can’t lock in a romance without a guide. I can’t decide whether it should start shortly after Junpei meets her over summer vacation and pause after a few ranks until her hospitalization, or after she’s hospitalized following the September Full Moon Operation. Regardless, I feel like Junpei would introduce you, because he’d want the two most important ladies in his life to be friends! Shadow Chidori boss fight on November 22 if you maxed her out before November 6; I’m still not sure how to handle Trismegistus since its existence kinda depends on Chidori dying/losing her Persona. On the plus side, since it seems to take about a month tops to recover from having your Shadow beaten in P4, Chidori should be well enough to go on a Christmas date with Junpei! (If you’re not romancing him, of course.)
For Ikutsuki, I know I said Chagall Cafe for his hangout place, but after a conversation with candidcallalily I think Mandragora might be a better fit, since he wants to sing karaoke at Yakushima. Still don’t know what his Memento should be, but I’m tentatively calling the bad ending where you side with him after maxing him out the Queen of the Fall Ending. And even if you don’t choose the Queen of the Fall Ending, he survives the fall and becomes an artificial Persona user if maxed out, essentially taking the place of Jin and Takaya (whose own fall if not maxed out is now fatal) as the founder of the Nyx cult and the bosses you fight on the way to Nyx on December 31: first normally, then as a Shadow.
As for The Answer, it’ll assume Shinji and Strega surviving and joining the party is canon. Also, I feel like for the FeMC, Akihiko and Ken would be the ones wanting to bring her back and Yukari and Mitsuru wanting to respect her decision, because Akihiko and Ken are both at least partially projecting the loss of important women in their lives onto her, so her death is going to be even more devastating than the MC’s. It’s hard to say who Shinji and Strega would side with, since I think there’s an argument to be made for any of them wanting to bring her back, but tentatively I think it’d be Shinji with Aigis/Metis/Fuuka, Takaya with Akihiko/Ken, Jin with Junpei/Koromaru, and Chidori with Yukari/Mitsuru, for maximum angst.
