FE Engage redesign series: Vander

Design notes:

For the Elyos characters I decided to lean into the white and gold color schemes and give them a theme that really emphasizes divinity and godliness.

My main gripe with Vander is his generic knight-ness. I really wanted to emphasize he's Lumera's knight specifically, so I matched his color palette and shapes to match hers.

I also thought it would be cute to make braided hair an Elyos/stuart thing; since Clanne, Framme, F!Alear and Lumera all have braids in some form! I also added a little bow as an extra nod to Clanne and Framme.

World building and theories of Engage

Lythos critical and defeated enemy quotes

Lumera

"I am the Divine Dragon Queen!"

"Your journey is at an end."

"Close your eyes."

"Forgive me."

Alear

This ends now!"

"I am the Divine Dragon."

"Sleep now!"

"I won't falter."

"Ready yourself."

I like how both Lumera and Alear announce that they are the Divine Dragon. Their critical quotes have enough similarity to suggest that mother Lumera has inspired their child and that Alear has inherited divine power. "Close your eyes" and "Sleep now" are references to Alear's 1000 year sleep. "Your journey is at an end" and "This ends now" are similar as well.

With the Lythos based characters there is a theme of mentioning their role in their critical and defeated enemy quotes which ties in nicely to their personal skills being dependent upon being near the Divine Dragon. There is also a theme of Clanne, Framme and Vander stating that their battle prowess is underestimated due to their outward appearance. Vander believes he is underestimated because of his age; ("I am as strong as ever.") Clanne believes he is underestimated because he doesn't think he looks tough nor manly (Fogado support). Framme believes she is underestimated because she is a small girl. One theme of Engage could be 'never judge a book by its cover' and the battle quotes reference this theme. I shall give two examples of this theme. On the surface Alear is a divine dragon, dressed in white with a gleaming sword but they are also the child of the Fell Dragon. On the surface the mysterious masked girl is an evil murderer but they are also a lonely fell dragon child looking for their sibling, who has been possessed.

I have a headcannon while Alear and Diamant are engaged, Alear has to sneak Diamant into her room. The reason for this is because the couple is aware Vander has fatherly/grandfatherly feelings toward Alear, despite the fact she is 1,000 plus years his senior. To spare Vander's feelings, the couple makes a scene on the balcony kissing and pretend to go their separate ways. However, when the couple is pretty certain Vander has gone to bed, Alear sneaks Diamant into her room for another night of passion.
