i don’t think millennials understand that during the 2000s/2010s gen z were children. we were alive. you’re not all knowing and the only victims of the trauma of those decades

just remembered that i wanted to criticize the homophobic undertones of Paprika because while i have a soft spot in my heart for this movie i feel like there was things that even when i was like less than 10 years old when i watched it that had me incredibly skeeved out , including the fatphobia and violence against the female protag on screen.
i really dont know if the themes of the two male coworkers practically “lending” their bodies to the head of the company for him to insert his own dreams or whatever was part of the original novel or something that Satoshi Kon added himself. i would have to check out, im guessing its part of the original novel, but i feel like its one of those things where it would have been way better to put in a different spin...... focusing less on how “creepy” or “gross” the two victims of coercion were in their private life , ESPECIALLY Himuro, the whole thing with him being obviously a gnc gay and mentally ill man and being basically thrown into a coma with no closure, it was uncalled for. They should have focused more upon building the chairman as a villain (and ditch the ableist trope of the disabled villain) .
overall while an entrancing and decade defining movie of the late 2000s, it cant go without major flaws n faults. Gay men deserve better representation on movies than creepy and predatory tropes.
