I just realized there is absolutely no way I would be able to make an end of the year fic rec because it would just be tooooo long. I'm splitting things up for the first half of the year!!
I'll Fly Away - @juliusschmidt - 122K
Harry and Louis grew up together in Lake County, Harry with his mom and stepdad in a tiny cottage on Edward’s Lake and Louis in his family’s farmhouse a few minutes down the road. But after high school, Louis stuck around and Harry did not; Harry went to Chicago where he found a boyfriend and couple of college degrees. Six years later, Harry ends up back in Edwardsville for the summer and he and Louis fall into old patterns and discover new ones.
ft. One Direction, the local boyband; Horan’s Bar and Grill; families, most especially children and babies; Officer Liam Payne; many local festivals and fireworks displays; and Anne Cox, PFLAG President.
I Don't Wanna Face The Music - @hereforh - 95K
Louis likes to think he's a pretty normal, typical lad. He likes spending nights at the pub with his mates, he loves football and is very close to his family. So when he moves to London for uni, he doesn’t think much will be different.
Until he makes these new friends who are nothing like his mates back home and change his life for the better - and this one boy who messes with his head from the get go and makes him question everything he has ever thought about himself.
Stranger Stars - @sunshineandhisrainbows - 212K
Five years ago, Africa offered a grieving Louis Tomlinson an escape from an England he couldn't tolerate. Now it's become home as he leads overland tours across the continent with his best friend and driver Zayn Malik. What's meant to be just another ordinary six-week trip from Cape Town to Nairobi turns into anything but, when future lawyer/current photographer and songwriter Harry Styles and his friends join Louis' latest set of passengers.
Mine Would Be You - @crinkle-eyed-boo - 114K
Louis blinks his eyes open, his eyelids fluttering as the room swims around him. He takes several gulps of beer once he confirms that he’s definitely not hallucinating, that the very first portrait Harry Styles ever painted of him is hanging on that wall.
Louis stares at the wall, his heart jackrabbiting in his chest as he realizes that there’s not just one painting of him, there’s five, the portraits lined up like they’re some sort of storyboard depicting the rise and fall of his deepest love. His greatest heartache. A pain that cut him so deep that he left the fucking country, severing all ties with his life in New York, now suddenly surrounding him as if he’d never left.
Fucking shit motherfucker fuck.
Louis returns to New York City five years after he left it – and the love of his life – behind. He didn't intend to see Harry again, but fate has a funny way of pulling them together, whether they like it or not. After making a begrudging truce, they both start to wonder: Would it be so bad if history repeated itself?
Perfect Storm - @cherrystreet - 80K
What do you do when your best friend asks you and your (now) ex to be the best men at his destination wedding? You can either tell him the truth, tell him you’re not together anymore, and deal with the consequences, or you can pretend you’re still together and roll with it, just pray you don’t spiral. Fake it ‘til you make it. You know, for the sake of the wedding.
Harry and Louis choose the latter.
Golden - @sunshineandhisrainbows - 128K
Harry is fully dressed when Louis returns to the room. He’s slumped on the edge of the bed, fingers twining awkwardly around the edge of his pink flounces. “Can I come?” he blurts when Louis opens the bathroom door. Louis freezes. “What?” “North. With you,” Harry clarifies. “If you’re going north, could I come too?”
On a rainy night in Auckland in the middle of his world tour, popstar Harry Styles loses his ability to carry on. Instead of continuing to Sydney and the rest of his tour, he seeks sanctuary with Louis Tomlinson, a man with a macadamia nut farm and a mysterious past.
Sun Means The Sky'll Be Blue - @moonhusbands - 91K
As the only singleton under thirty attending his cousin's five-day wedding, Harry is desperate to find a date, or at least a reason to get people's questions about his love life off his back. So when Louis, Harry's old uni roommate and fellow wedding attendee waltzes back into his life, Harry seizes the opportunity, pretending Louis is his ex-boyfriend and that it's a sore subject not to be mentioned.
If it's a little bit closer to the truth than Harry would like, well, he's a master at living in denial.
So cue a mess of trudged-up feelings, past misunderstandings, a rekindled summer romance and a whole lot of sexually-charged bickering.
Being of the Jealous Kind - @louisandtheaquarian - 24K
A-list actor Louis Tomlinson and his partner fashion photographer Harry Styles weather the storm that is Louis’ fake relationship with his costar in the lead up to this year’s Academy Awards.
Featuring a fluffy teenage meet-cute, an angsty wine drunk Harry melting down over pap pics, Louis habitually overusing the word “baby,” and cameos by a vintage Umbro sweatshirt, the peace ring, and one hell of a Larry hug.
Or the justice for To Be So Lonely fic. Based on the lyrics to TBSL and a prompt where “Louis has to fake date some celebrity, while his boyfriend Harry sits at home.”
Late Night Talking - @kingsofeverything - 53K
Louis Tomlinson has a new album coming out and a second world tour on the horizon. Promo season gets underway with a stop at Late Night Talking, the late night show hosted by Harry Styles, and Harry Styles just happens to be the man who blew a chance to date Louis a decade ago.
With A Little Kindness - @jacaranda-bloom - 33K
The man lays his hand on Harry’s forearm and Harry looks up as the stranger leans in. “I just wanted to say,” he whispers. “Can I cover your bill? I’m a big believer in paying it forward and I can see you’re struggling. It’s none of my business, of course, but I’d really like to help.”
OR the one where Harry is a struggling single parent who doesn’t have time for relationships and Louis is a generous stranger who is unlucky in love, until fate decides to step in and bring them together.
Loved By Your Mother - @gaymoustache - 31K
Harry stretches out like Venus with her lover, growing sleepy in the late afternoon light with a baby growing inside her. Perhaps not literally, not physically. Not exactly.
or
Harry struggles to come to terms with wanting to have children, and what that means for their relationship. Canon compliant, set a few years into the future.
you taught me how to love (i taught you how to stop) - @thedevilinmybrain - 50K
"I was always better at hand to hand than you," Harry growls, even as he leans his weight into the blade. It's small, sharp, has a handle of gold roses.
"I don't know about that." Louis moves his arm forward, makes the presence of the barrel of the gun fit snugly to Harry's hip. "I think we just play differently."
"You going to shoot me?" Harry asks, those wild eyes tracking over Louis' face. "Do it."
"I think I've put enough scars on you," Louis answers, means it about the stretch marks still lining the sides of Harry's stomach, but it lands a little too raw. There are other scars on Harry's body that Louis blames himself for, scars inside too.
your memory over me - @shimmeringevil - 64K
Three years have passed since Louis last saw him, but all it took was a few minutes in Harry’s presence for him to be relegated to the desperate twenty-one year old that was practically begging his boyfriend for an ounce of reassurance that he still cared about him.
Harry shouldn’t be here. He’s brought too many unresolved feelings with him, that Louis thought he’d never have to face.
It’s Harry’s apparent apathy that’s the most difficult to come to terms with. Anger, he could handle. Regret, he would welcome. But Harry’s amiability, and carefree demeanor can only be born from indifference.
He’s moved on. He doesn’t care. And that is something Louis doesn’t think he’ll ever be strong enough to face.
-
OR - The worst heartbreak of Louis’ life walks right back into it when his parents invite their family friends on an all-expenses-paid trip for their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. Facing a past that he tried to bury long ago, Louis learns that some people have a way of sticking with you even when they’re gone.
knock knock, i love you - @beautlouis - 86K
“Well,” Louis says, searching for something to relieve this tension. “I think if a bloke gets kicked out of his stats exam for a knock knock joke, he deserves to hear the punchline, yeah?”
“Oh!” Harry says, beaming. “I forgot where we left off, what was it again?” He looks overjoyed to be exchanging a shit joke.
“Ah, you said knock knock, then I said who’s there, and then you said Noah,” Louis supplies helpfully. He hates that he's actually curious about the rest of the joke. “So, Noah who?”
“Oh,” says Harry, in a much different tone, dragging out the syllable. He looks bashful now. Louis cannot keep up with this boy, it's going to kill him. “Right, well.” He shuffles his feet. Fuck, what kind of knock knock joke gets a boy nervous? “Noah a good place we could get something to eat?”
[Harry and Louis get kicked out of a statistics exam for passing a knock knock joke note, and subsequently fall in love. Harry's a virgin, there's a cat, a hot cocoa date, a lot of sex, even more knock knock jokes, and everything is lovely and happy.]
i'm a captain on a jealous sea - @thedevilinmybrain - 15K
It’s not that Louis doesn’t like Nick. He is, if he’s being honest, kind of indifferent. Louis gets that Nick is just doing his job most of the time, being loud and prying, not having boundaries. But it’s just a little too much for Louis’ taste. Louis, who has learned over the years, when to be loud and when to know that coy is the game. But, it doesn’t matter really. He’s not required to like everyone, doesn’t have to make nice with them outside of having a camera shoved in his face. He can let Nick be Nick and it shouldn’t affect Louis at all.
Except.
What Louis actually has a problem with is the way Nick Grimshaw looks at Harry.
One More Time Again - orphan_account - 232K
Harry looks down to where Louis is cradling his hand between his own. Louis' hands are slender, the bones delicate, the nails bitten short. The 2-8 on the backs of his fingers is gone, but the faded scar from a skateboarding mishap in Year 7 is still there.
Harry's hand is awkward, knobby-boned and naked, no rings, no tattoos. It's too big for his wrist and his wrist too big for his arm. Yet it still somehow fits in Louis' in the painfully perfect way it always did.
He blinks back the sting in his eyes.
On the morning of his second sold-out performance at Madison Square Garden, Harry wakes up to find that he's sixteen years old, on The X Factor, and that he has a chance to make things right.
A canon-compliant fix-it fic (sort of).
Darling, so it goes - @disgruntledkittenface - 195K
Harry Styles is a world-famous actor at the height of his career but a personal low point when he meets His Serene Highness Prince Louis of Monaco by chance. He doesn’t think they’ll ever see each other again, but after striking up a correspondence, it turns out they have more in common than he thought. Then they start to fall for each other. Louis is different from anyone Harry has dated before and their relationship moves fast as Harry realizes he’s ready for a change. Soon Harry finds himself adapting to an entirely new life, in a country where he doesn’t know the rules, the customs, even the language. Harry is used to people underestimating him, and he’s more determined than ever to prove them wrong.
He just needs Louis to meet him halfway.
Grace Kelly AU.
Sweetest Devotion - @brightgolden - 61K
After his divorce, all Harry wants in life is to provide a stable, loving environment for his three-year-old daughter, Evie.
Never in his wildest dreams has he ever considered that life might come with the presence of his teenage crush — Gemma’s friend from secondary school, Louis Tomlinson.
Luckily, Harry isn’t still pining over him.
Or so he thought.
Went Down In Flames - @itsnotreal - 26K
Louis was in an absolutely shit storm. He had let it go on for too long. Let it go too far. But he had a plan. And tonight, said plan was going down. He was going to tell the boys he was proposing this weekend. ‘Harry’ would turn him down, albeit gently, and Louis would play the heartbroken boyfriend. He’d gotten this far. All he had to do was lock himself in his bedroom and cry a little. He’d been in a few plays growing up. Piece of cake.
Except. It didn’t go that way. Of course, it didn’t. Because the universe, the beautiful chaotic bitch that she was, just had to have an actual Harry Styles and he just had to be Niall’s best friend.

Hi, I'm Mia!
Tumblr media
I am a middle child, born and raised in Wellington. I have grown up around lots of animals and pets, my grandparents had a farm and I grew up with an amazingly friendly, food orientated lab. He was one of the sweetest dogs I have ever known and his presence definitely had a big impact on my life. My parents, who are now empty nesters (my older brother is about to get married and lives in auckland working in health management, while my younger sister has just started her second year of law at Otago), have a one year old cavoodle puppy name Billie. Whenever I go home I love to spend almost all of my time with her. One of the downfalls of flatting and studying in Auckland is that I can not spend as much time with animals or Billie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My love for animals started very young
Tumblr media
Billie & I - 2023
I am the creative one in my family. Both my parents were lawyers and my siblings have all taken directions that will led them to office jobs. I was always encouraged by my mum to be creative (she always wishes that there were as many options for design and art as there are now back when she was at school). Some of my best childhood memories have been drawing and spending time doing crafts with her. Even though my mum was a lawyer, she was an amazing drawer and I always aspired to be able to draw as well as her which is why I put so much time into developing my illustration skills. She has always been my biggest influence and support in studying design.
I was also born with amniotic band syndrome which means that my left arm stops just after my elbow. Being one handed is a massive part of my identity, even when I have not always wanted it to be, and has shaped and influenced everything I have and will ever do. It made me switch from skiing to snowboarding and stopped me from ever getting the perfect cartwheel. I think part of the reason I am a designer and creative is because of my arm. Creativity gives me a way to express myself that isn't defined by my physical appearance or lack of hand.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My capstone project which detailed mine and my parents experience of having a kid with one hand.
Through University I have become more and more comfortable with my identity as a disabled designer (something I would have never wanted to be associated as during high school) and it has given me the chance to grow. I have learnt how I can use design to give voice to my younger self and others who feel they have none. I think that this is one of the most valuable assets of a designer, their ability to speak for those who society does not let.

Jury finds two men guilty of kidnapping bodybuilder
Tumblr media
A jury has found two men guilty of kidnapping and perverting the course of justice at Auckland's High Court.
Khalid Naser Slaimankhel and Junior Iolima Paea were each convicted on a charge of kidnapping bodybuilder Marven Yacoub.
They were each found guilty on a charge of perverting the course of justice.
The jury was unable to reach a verdict in the case of Jen Jay Law, who faced a sole charge of kidnapping.
Slaimankhel showed no reaction when the verdict of guilty was handed down for the kidnapping charge but shook his head when the same verdict was announced on the perverting the course of justice charge. Paea showed no reaction to the verdicts.
After hearing nine days of evidence, an 11-person jury took just over a day to reach its verdicts. It was the third jury to hear the case. A first trial in May 2014 ended with a hung jury on all counts, while a second trial was aborted after four days when the jury heard information deemed likely to be prejudicial to Slaimankhel's fair trial rights.
The trial centered on whether victim Marven Yacoub's account of being accosted at a Burger King by Paea and two unknown associates and taken to law office in Ponsonby against his will to swear a false statement to be used in Slaimankel's bail hearing the following day could be believed.
The jury heard that Law lured Mr Yacoub to Burger King Mangere on the understanding that he would sell him steroids. Law admitted to police he purchased a new phone sim card to help avoid detection. On the day of the kidnapping he sent Mr Yacoub a text pretending to be inside the Burger King toilets but he was in fact at home in Hamilton.
Slaimankhel arranged for Paea and his associates to kidnap Mr Yacoub from the Burger King and take him to the office of his lawyer Isaac Koya to swear a statement taking responsibility for 1048 green steroid fat burner pills found in the boot of his BMW during a police stop 10 days earlier.
Slaimankhel was under police surveillance when he met Mr Yacoub in the Sylvia Park car park to take possession of the pills.
The jury was shown CCTV footage of the kidnapping, including the two unknown men taking up positions either side of Mr Yacoub and apparently parting their shirts to reveal gang insignia.
Mr Yacoub testified that Paea threatened to harm his family unless he did what he was told.
The defense contended the meeting was nothing more than an amicable meeting between friends and that Paea had driven Mr Yacoub to Ponsonby because he owed him $300, which he would be able to get from Slaimankhel, who still owed Mr Yacoub money for the steroid pills.
The defense painted Mr Yacoub as a liar and steroid dealer who had concocted his story to aid his chances of avoiding a criminal conviction after a raid on his house uncovered a cache of steroids in a shoe box.
Mr Yacoub's version of what happened at the law office was strongly rebutted by Mr Koya and another lawyer, Gary Gotlieb. Mr Yacoub testified that Slaimankhel had told him what to say in the statement while Paea continued to threaten him as Mr Koya typed on his computer. Slaimankhel and Paea had then hovered menacingly in the doorway while he signed the document in Mr Gotlieb's office.
Mr Koya testified that although it was against his normal practice he had allowed Slaimankhel and Paea to remain in the office. He had three times warned Slaimankhel to be quiet but Paea hadn't said a word and Mr Yacoub had made his statement willingly.
Mr Gotlieb said Mr Yacoub's claim that Mr Koya had been in his office while he swore the statement and that Slaimankhel and Paea had hovered in the doorway was wrong. The door had been shut and only he and Mr Yacoub had been in his office. Mr Yacoub had appeared relaxed, Mr Gotlieb testified.
The jury heard text message evidence that showed how the kidnapping had been planned and executed. Text messages found on Paea's phone were particularly damning. Two days before the kidnapping he sent a text to an unknown associate that read: "I Got a job for us Monday… And if it works out well will get paid on the spot my uso.."
Another text sent from Paea's phone to an unknown associate while Mr Yacoub was at the law office said: "Soon we at the lawyers better pray to the almighty to keep us safe my uso.. Cause I'm starting to feel very funny about this now."
Later that evening, the court heard Paea sent a text to Slaimankhel as the pair apparently discussed whether Mr Yacoub would appear as instructed at Slaimankhel's bail hearing. "Everything all goods," Paea texted.
"I think M will be there tomorrow because he knows that we now know his ins and outs and where he sleeps and the ones he loves will."

why subdivision in auckland is beautiful?
Subdivision in Auckland:
A Guide to the ProcessSubdivision is the process of dividing a piece of land into two or more smaller pieces, each with its own separate title. In Auckland, subdivision has become an increasingly popular way for property owners to maximize the value of their land by creating additional residential or commercial properties. This article provides an overview of the Subdivision in Auckland and the key factors to consider before undertaking a subdivision project.
Why subdivide?
There are several reasons why property owners may choose to subdivide their land in Auckland. These include:
1. Financial gain: Subdividing land can be a lucrative investment opportunity, as it allows property owners to create additional properties that can be sold or rented out for profit.
2. Maximizing land use: Subdivision allows property owners to make the most of their land by creating additional properties that can be used for residential or commercial purposes.
3. Family considerations: Subdivision can be a way for families to create additional homes on a single piece of land, allowing family members to live close to one another while maintaining their own separate spaces.
Tumblr media
The subdivision process in Auckland
Subdivision in Auckland is a complex process that requires careful planning and adherence to a range of regulations and guidelines. The process can be broken down into several key steps:
1. Feasibility assessment: The first step in the subdivision process is to assess the feasibility of the project. This involves considering factors such as zoning regulations, site conditions, and access to infrastructure such as water, power, and sewage.
2. Resource consent: Once feasibility has been established, the property owner must apply for resource consent from the local council. This involves submitting a detailed application that outlines the proposed subdivision, including plans, elevations, and other technical information.
3. Surveying: Once resource consent has been granted, the property must be surveyed to determine the exact boundaries of the new lots.
4. Engineering: The property must also undergo engineering work to prepare it for subdivision, including the construction of new infrastructure such as roads, water, and sewage systems.
5. Title registration: Once all of the necessary work has been completed, new titles can be registered for each of the new lots, allowing them to be sold or developed.
Key factors to consider before subdividing
Before embarking on a subdivision project in Auckland, there are several key factors that property owners should consider:
1. Zoning regulations: Each area in Auckland has specific zoning regulations that dictate the type and density of development that is permitted. Property owners should ensure that their proposed subdivision complies with these regulations.]
2. Infrastructure: The availability and accessibility of infrastructure such as water, power, and sewage can have a significant impact on the feasibility and cost of a subdivision project.
3. Site conditions: The topography, soil type, and other site conditions can also affect the feasibility and cost of a subdivision project.
4. Market demand: Property owners should carefully consider market demand for new properties in the area before embarking on a subdivision project, to ensure that the project is financially viable.
5. Expert advice: Subdivision is a complex process that requires expert knowledge and advice from a range of professionals, including surveyors, engineers, and lawyers.
Conclusion
Subdivision is a popular way for property owners in Auckland to maximize the value of their land by creating additional residential or commercial properties. The subdivision process is complex and requires careful planning and adherence to a range of regulations and guidelines. Property owners should carefully consider the feasibility of a subdivision project, taking into account factors such as zoning regulations, infrastructure, site conditions, market demand, and expert advice. With the right planning and execution, subdivision can be a lucrative investment opportunity that creates significant value for property

Rant incoming
Yesterday my sweety got accused of stealing his dads car and binning his ashes.
Context: FIL died in oct, we picked the car up in nov and its been stored at his uncles since then. His uncle rang in the weekend to say could we pick it up as it was only supposed to be there six weeks not five months. Fair enough, we picked it up saturday and are storing it at sweetys work. We visited MIL on sunday and said we have the car etc, and talked about dropping it off at the executor uncles since then he'd be forced to actually do something about it.
MIL rang storage uncle to check we told her the truth. Then rang Auckland Aunty in tears saying that we are tearing the family apart because we want to drop the car off at executor uncles and then they wont visit her anymore sob sob. Then rang executor uncle who decided that instead of ringing sweety, he would email the estate lawyers accusing sweety of stealing.
Sweety spoke to estate lawyers yesterday, explained situation. Estate lawyers happy with this and emailed executor uncle and shithead brother saying car is to be collected from sweetys work and sold immediately. Also probate is finally done thank god.
Sweety then got an angry call from MIL saying he's The Worst, during which he got shitty and told her we have dads ashes. (This was A Mistake and there was a reason we hadn't told her). They were divorced before FIL died and FIL was in a relationship with someone else when he passed. Due to old life insurance wording MIL got the life insurance money, not FILs estate. Sweety had to cover FILs funeral costs because his shithead brother refused. When MIL had the money paid out she gave some to shithead brother and sweety.
MIL is adamantly saying that she is entitled to FILs ashes, because she paid for the funeral and has said that if she doesn't get them she's cutting us off.
MIL then lied to Auckland Aunty saying that we're putting them in the bin so no one has the ashes and pretending thats what she was upset about since sunday even tho she only got told about the ashes yesterday.
Sweety is understandably fucked off with the whole lot of them, and wishes we still had the money so we could repay her.
Sweety tried calling MIL last night to talk it out but she won't pick up. She instead sent a very pass-ag txt saying don't worry we'll just forget it happened.
I am sitting here watching this getting more and more angry and thinking that everyones faces are looking very punchable.

Parents Refusing Life Saving Heart Surgery Using Blood From Those Vaccinated Against Covid-19
A New Zealand couple is refusing to allow their infant son to undergo lifesaving heart surgery using blood from people vaccinated against Covid-19, showing how vaccine misinformation continues to manifest in unexpected ways two years into global inoculation campaigns.
The 4-month-old is critically ill with a severe case of pulmonary valve stenosis, a heart valve disorder. The boy’s mother says she wants her son’s operation to take place without delay, but she has demanded that “safe blood” be used, with her lawyer saying that the family was concerned about blood containing traces of vaccines using new mRNA technology.
The New Zealand health service has denied the family’s request to use blood from unvaccinated volunteers and says that the vaccines pose no risk to donor supplies. On Tuesday, the High Court in Auckland will decide whether to grant the health service, Te Whatu Ora, temporary guardianship of the baby so it can remove the child from the family and perform the surgery.
