The hope in his eyes was something she didn't dare take away. She knew everything he was doing was in hopes of getting back to Alice. He didn't need to know that the FBC had discovered she was no longer in the land of the living.
She wished she could be the cause for that glimmer of hope she saw in his features. She wished his touches were meant for more than just comfort. She wished he'd look at her the way he looked when he thought about Alice.
All of those yearnings, however, paled in comparison to the thought of seeing every bit of his heart shatter once he knew the truth.
She hoped she'd never have to tell him.

Alan wearing glasses post AW2 cause let's be fucking real he probably needed them BEFORE but is just NOW getting around to them. He's always BUSY and in the ZONE when wearing them, he finds he can focus
Said focus gets broken if he's been in his study for too long and Jesse comes in, sits on his desk (avoiding his work, of course), and takes off his glasses before leaning in so she can kiss the corner of his mouth

45. Under the influence (Hope you don't mind one-sided for this one since I find it a bit hard to put in enough development for them in something this short. Might try another prompt later for sometime after this one. I also def took inspiration from your portrayal of Jesse for this and I hope it's okay. )
Alan wasn't always the best drunk to be around. He could be the funny, drunkenly stupid guy with a good personality, or he could be the guy who flew off the handle at the slightest issue, OR he could be the easily depressed guy who whined endlessly.
Jesse was staying sober for this, honestly not entirely sure how she was while drunk and not wanting to find out. Sure, she'd drank before, but she never really had anyone to do so with that she trusted, so she never really had enough to let loose. She'd simply drink enough to feel relaxed and go pass out once the sleepiness hit. Alan seemed to be a whole other animal, though. While he was normally pretty reserved, he seemed to love being social once he'd gotten enough drinks in him.
That made things hard for Jesse right now. She didn't know how to be social enough for this. She was watching after him to make sure he wasn't a threat, and she hoped this moonshine would provide them with the answers they needed. Alan had seemed so sure it would bring back the memories he'd lost, and they didn't have any other active leads they could act upon at the moment. She figured 'what the hell' and went along with it.
She hadn't expected him to be so comfortable with her. There was more than one occasion where he'd gotten close to her and seemed exceedingly interested in getting to know her. She wasn't used to someone so fascinated with her beyond Emily. His questions didn't feel intrusive, so she didn't mind answering what she could. In fact, they found that they shared a lot of similar experiences along the way. She was caught off guard, however, when Alan heard what little she managed to reveal about her time in Ordinary and proceeded to pull her into a hug.
A hug. The action felt so foreign to her. She almost pushed him away until she realized, well, she actually enjoyed it. It was comforting and warm, and she felt her stomach fill with butterflies. While she'd never admit to it, she also enjoyed his scent and the feeling of his beard brushing against her cheek. She hesitantly returned the hug, not wanting it to end too soon.
She knew not to let herself get too attached. There were plenty of reasons not to, from her job to the fact he was clearly very devoted to his wife. There was no way it would work out. So, like every other opportunity she had to possibly gain a smidge of happiness, she snuffed out the want before it could get out of control. Despite those efforts, however, she found her heart hurting once he devolved into the depressed drunk. The amount of times he mentioned missing Alice only made her throat clench up and her stomach twist into knots.
Just like anyone else she ever had in her life, he was unavailable to her.
She hoped he would become the passed out drunk soon. She needed to go train with the rangers and get out some rage. This was not what she signed up for when she took on the responsibility of keeping watch over him.

Also now I'm just picturing Alan feeling conflicted because Jesse is becoming a new muse of his but he doesn't know how to feel about it and doesn't know how to accept that he's falling in love with the Director of the FBC
Meanwhile, Jesse truly believes that her feelings will not be returned so she doesn't even try to act on them, but GOD she loves Alan, she already knows she would do ANYTHING for that man

Jesse Faden when she's on the run, avoiding being caught by the FBC while trying to find them and therefore find Dylan, doing all these odd jobs and putting together money to one day buy herself an old, used, kind of beat up Game Boy Advance and a used copy of Pokemon Ruby because goddammit, she would play Pokemon
Pre-Ordinary AWE she would have last played like. Gold and Silver (MAYBE Crystal, but definitely the other two)
Post-Ordinary AWE 100% sees her using some of her funds from odd jobs to get that old GBA and copy of Ruby and then she never gets any of the new ones cause the systems and games keep getting expensive and she needs those funds to find Dylan
Post-Hiss Invasion would see Jesse realizing she can use her sudden influx of funds as Director to get caught up on SIX WHOLE GENERATIONS and HUNDREDS of new Pokemon
