These colours are vibrant but also natural, the green and blues feel very organic and calming. The two cool colours don’t contrast too much so the relationship between them is subtle. The blue has connotations of relaxation and freshness, similarly the green also has connotations of calm and tranquility, but both colours can also imply excitement, linking to the aim of the project. I could increase the intensity of these colours to make the colours more energetic.
These are some rough digital drawings I made with a graphics tablet on Adobe Photoshop. I wanted to develop some patterns for my live brief, UK Greeting collection. I wanted to make a floral design to link to the upcoming trends and fashions I have been looking at for 2017, to hopefully give me an edge in the competition as the judges and consumers may be looking for trend related designs. The design is a mixture of plants and animals and fictional shapes making the botanical pattern fictional and relating to the weird and natural microscopic world I have been creating.

A dying butterfly matched my shoe. The potential of death disguised as the dying. Don't worry I moved it to a shady place out of the reach of careless feet.
These are some photographs I took during the process of making my wallpapers, the wallpapers took many, many, many, many hours to complete. The wallpapers are highly detailed to show the complexity and beauty of nature. It was a challenge to work on such a large scale, especially when they were on the wall, working on a different angle.
To create these drawings I used a Wacom tablet, the pen allows me to draw as if I were holding a real pencil on paper. I used a textured pen to give a craft like feel to the drawing, this links to my love for handcrafted items and the traditional artists I have been looking at. It also links to William Morris’s belief in the revival of craft.
I used the sketch as layer 1, a base for the artwork, then slowly layered colour by colour, adding tone and highlights to each shape to give a sense of depth. I wanted to flower to be highly detailed like a scientific illustration such as Ernst Haeckle’s work. This links to the microscopic fictional world I am building being a mixture of real and non real, almost deceiving people to think it might be real and make people question what we know about nature.
I used natural colours to link to the microscopic world which is based from nature and meant to represent our decreasing relationship with nature. The colours are highly contrasting which give a playful look to the piece, linking to my aim of making nature exciting.
