Asylum seekers of all kinds: Haitians, Africans, Middle Eastern and Slavic peoples crossed to the United States from Mexico under special humanitarian parole granted to some migrants by customs officials—moments after more Venezuelan migrants were deported from the U.S. to Tijuana on Friday, October 14, 2022. (Carlos A. Moreno for @zumapress) — The estimate of how many Venezuelan migrants have been deported now since last Friday has expanded to roughly more than 1,800 people, according to the Mexican federal government. — Mexico has agreed to take 24,000 migrants from Venezuela (in similar contrast and numbers to the program being offered to those migrants flying to the U.S. to qualify for a chance to seek asylum status) as it collaborates with the Biden Administration on enforcing the Trump-era Title 42 pandemic policy that keeps migrants from seeking asylum at the border or returned to their native countries. In the case of Venezuelan nationals they cannot be deported back to their country due to the U.S. not having official diplomatic relations with the Caracas government of President Nicolas Maduro (which many of the Venezuelan migrants are leaving their homeland due to an economic crisis there since 2014. About 6.8 Million have left the country of 28 Million since then to other places around the world, including the U.S. that will offer them refuge). — #usmexicoborder #frontera #fronterizo #migrantes #migrants #asylumseekers #tijuanamexico #tijuana #mexico #venezuelans #title42 #photojournalism #fotoperiodismo #documentaryphotography #everydayeverywhere #everydaylatinamerica #everydaymexico #everydaylafrontera #everydayusa #everydayvenezuela #reportagespotlight #everydaysocialjustice #everydaymigration (at U.S/MX Int Border Tijuana,BC) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cj81peOyI6F/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Venezuelan migrants are deported to Tijuana, Mexico from Texas, after crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally on Thursday, October 13, 2022. An estimate of 400 migrants throughout the day were deported in small groups from the Chaparral border, many feeling confused, lost and hungry. Some tried to organize and figure out what their next steps would be in the city, after some were in ICE detention since Sunday. — On Wednesday, the Biden Administration announced effective immediatetly a special program for migrants seeking asylum from Venezuela, up to 24,000 cap that could enter and be processed on a case-by-case basis to travel to the U.S. by air directly to an interior port of entry, which is meant to relieve pressure in the uptick of apprehensions being seen by people of that country at the border (a similar program, Uniting for Ukraine, was enacted during the spring rush this year of Ukrainian asylum seekers wanting to enter the U.S. through the Mexican border due to the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war). The U.S. and Mexico agreed on terms where an expansion of Title 42 would be implemented for any returned Venezuelan nationals, if they bypass the process and enter illegally through the border they would be deported to Mexico and be ineligible for the program in the future.
