Another Answer 'Home From America- not quite yet- part 2
@kivrin- have a part two. Admittedly I can't quite rationalise Foyle staying with MI5, but maybe he can't quite resist a puzzle (and they play on his sense of duty too) this once.
Anyway, meet the unconventional cavalry
Miss Peirce is half-way through explaining why they need a policeman, why they need him, to study the files of the Eternity Ring and help them find the mole linked to it, when he becomes aware of a ruckus and hubbub echoing up to the room. Distant voices, sharpness in their tones, similar to a low rumble of thunder.  Sir William turns his head to the door and the noise, a flash of wariness flickering over his face. Then there is a knock on the door. In concert Miss Pierce and Valentine move to block the table from view.
“Yes?” Miss Peirce calls, her tone making it clear the unwelcomness of the interruption. The door opens a crack and one of the secretaries  just about pokes her head around the door. “Sorry, Sir Ma’am. There are individuals downstairs in the Foyer demanding to see Mr Foyle. Pennent tried to send them off, but they’re quite certain he’s here, and they aren’t moving.”
“Who are they?” Sir William asks in a slightly peeved tone.
Even from a distance Christopher can see her eyes flicker, the jitters of one who carries unwelcome news. “The senior one is Commander Charles Howard, from Naval Intelligence, Sir.”
Charles, how on eart
Sir William sighs, and he Miss Pierce and Valentine share looks. It’s Miss Peirce who looks to him and arches an eyebrow directly. He looks back at her
I said nothing, I did nothing to provoke this. Then she gives a stiff nod with an attitude of the weary, “You’d better go down there and prove we haven’t done anything to you Mr Foyle. Commander Howard is not one to be stalled.”
He inclines his head “Thank you.” Striding across to the door he turns to look back at them “I will be back of course.”
There is a glimmer of a sharp smile on Miss Peirce’s face, and he realises then that he’s played right into her hands.
‘They’ he discovers when he comes to one of the landings overlooking the Foyer, are three people. Charles, flanked by Andrew and Sam. Charles is in his full uniform, standing to every inch of his tall height and with a face alike to carven stone, a gaze fixed on the desk officer as he speaks firmly and forcefully. Sam’s head is shifting about, studying, assessing, and even from this distance he can recognise her stance of moral enragedness- screaming ‘this is not right!’ at the world.
Andrew looks rumpled and tugged about, an old and shabby coat over his arm- as though he dashed straight out the door, barely thinking and only remembered his appearance at the eleventh hour. Which is probably exactly what happened. But there’s fire there, and a set to his son’s feet and head he knows all to well, it’s the one which precedes Andrew doing something greatly gallant and very foolish.
His feet must make a noise as he comes down the flight of stairs, for they all look about and in almost unison relief floods all three faces. Charles is the first to move forwards, holding out an arm to clap him on the shoulder
“Christopher, there you are.” The warm eyes assess him, “Alright I hope?”
He nods and smiles to assuage their concerns “Fine.” Charles holds his gaze for a moment, checking for a bluff, then steps back. Sam holds herself back, so it’s Andrew’s arms that wrap tight around him.
“Dad… what do they want with you?”
“An outsider’s viewpoint -and I can’t tell you anything more than that Andrew.”
Andrew looks at him with a searching expression so similar to his uncle’s, “This is your choice though?”
He nods “Yes it is, now.”
It’s as if a shutter goes down behind his son’s eyes, an extra dimension to their darkness. He speaks in a low-tone “Be careful with this lot” Andrew’s eyes flick up past him over his shoulder, as if he’s checking something, “Especially her.” And there’s an edge, a hardness to his son’s tone, which hints at something more than filial concern.
And then Sam, her eyes unable to mask her emotions, she hugs him very tightly.
“This is your doing?” He half-teases her.
She gives a quick nod, a brave, slightly proud smile. “I rang Mr Howard, then Andrew and got on the next train leaving Southampton to London.”
Quick work, and quicker thinking.  Sharp Girl.
“You’re coming home now?”
“Ah -Not just yet.” He senses eyes on them, casts a quick look back and catches a shadow on the staircase, “They do need me for something, useful.”
Sam huffs, “You’d think they’d let you have your feet on English soil for more than minutes before sweeping you away.”
It’s an accurate point, but he keeps his response to a “hmm.”, all to aware of watching eyes and ears.  He steps back, holds them all with his gaze “You should go.” Go now, stay away from this shadowy game. I won’t have you hostages to fortune.
Not one of them look remotely ameanable to this prospect, but it’s Andrew he looks at hardest. Andrew, who still looks as if he’s verging on throwing a punch at the next person who comes near them. Andrew looks straight back at him, unquelled
“Christopher-“ Charles’s voice is steady, but not hushed. “You know where to reach me me.” It’s not a question.
He nods, and slowly Rosalind’s brother moves, carefully impelling the other two across the Foyer towards the door. All those years in the Navy, Charles at least knows an exit cue when he get one. Andrew has taken Sam’s hand, but his son’s eyes are still locked upwards, glaring at whoever is watching and listening.
What- he wonders as he slowly turns to climb the stairs and face this next larger puzzle- has been going on there?

Micah the Sticky the pig
A horrible pig known as Micah came into the region of Volochok one day. Micah the Sticky attempted to deceive victim. There was once an old decayed mansion that stood in the middle of a deep gloomy Volochok, and in the decayed mansion lived Leslie the Flashy. Leslie unwittingly helped Micah. Micah threatened to marry Zion. Leslie left decayed mansion to cut down the tallest tree in the forest with a herring. Leslie was challenged to prove heroic qualities. Leslie responded to this test. Leslie the Flashy was found by Rowan. "Greetings, Rowan" said Leslie the Flashy. "Ahoy! Leslie the Flashy" retorted Rowan. "Well, you certainly are efficient," ejected Leslie the Flashy. "Yes, I am," conceded Rowan. "But it's been said that I'm also gentle!" "Here," said Rowan, "you'll need this," and gave Leslie the Flashy the Primary-Electron Emitter. "What's this?" asked Leslie. "What does it look like?" replied Rowan. "It's a special, magical Primary-Electron Emitter. Perhaps you can use it in your struggle with Micah the Sticky." "Thanks!" said a grateful Leslie the Flashy thankfully. Leslie the Flashy set out for his decayed mansion. Next day Leslie set off on his visit to the Volochok. He walked and walked, for three whole days did he walk, and then he reached Volochok. Leslie the Flashy greeted Sidney, and caught hold of his right little finger. Enraged Sidney tried to shake he off, flying first about the house and then out of it, but all in vain. At last Enraged Sidney after soaring on high, struck the ground, and fell to pieces, becoming a fine yellow sand. Afterwards Leslie heaped up a pile of wood, set fire to it, burnt Sidney on the pyre, and scattered his ashes to the wind. God evidently did it to educate Sidney for his enragedness.

The parable of Eden and the eagle Jamie
Once there was, and there wasn't, a certain woman was very orderly. Her name was Eden. Eden lived with Frank Sydney, Lithe the Easter Bunny, Hysterical Lyric, Stable Kayden, and Casey the Disruptive. Irritating Megan and Charlie the Demonic were friends of Eden. Sooner or later, Stable Kayden died. These things happen. Unfortunately. There was much wailing in a lonely intersection. "Aha," remarked Orderly Eden. One morning in a lonely intersection, a decaying eagle known as Jamie the Ignorant strode in. Jamie gained information. Jamie the Ignorant attempted to deceive victim. Orderly Eden unwittingly helped Jamie the Ignorant. Eden left barn to cut down the tallest tree in the forest with a herring. Eden was chased. Eden brought to justice Enraged Rowan. Orderly Eden said, "Into the bottomless pit with you! Out of sight, accursed one!" God evidently did it to rebuke Enraged Rowan for her enragedness. Had parking tickets forgiven, Eden retired to live in peace. Years passed, but Eden still mourned the stinging loss of Kayden. After that she lived long and happily, survived to a great age, and then died peacefully.
