[L&N] Osborn Spring Tease Date (Prologue)
Tumblr media
[Release Date: 5 March 2021]
[This date was translated with the help of Google translate, @cheri-translates and by my friends!]
Tumblr media
The gentle and warm breeze was wrapped in the fragrance of sweet-smelling flowers. I walked along the small stone path, curiously studying this quiet and secluded manor.
A few days ago, I received an invitation from Osborn, but he didn't tell me the destination of the appointment, but booked a car for me in advance.
Was he planning to give me a surprise? With anticipation and excitement, I got into the car punctually.
The driver took me to my destination, which turned out to be a manor on the outskirts of the city. I heard that it was a mansion of a rich man decades ago and was transformed into a business park.
Text message: I'm here, where are you?
Osborn message: Come here.
Osborn sent a photo of an elegant small building surrounded by trees.
I looked around and found the building not far away.
Tumblr media
MC: That's the place!
As I approached, I realized that it was a cafe with a few tables, chairs and umbrellas at the entrance.
Tumblr media
There is an exquisite door plate next to the gate, which reads "MIle Modiste", which should be the name of the cafe.
As if knowing my arrival, a waiter opened the door for me.
Waiter A: Miss MC, this way please.
Dense emerald-green vines climbed around the room’s interior, and large swathes of bright-colored fresh flowers embellished the area in an irregular manner, as if the colors of spring had also spread into the store.
I looked at this cafe curiously, which is very different from the places Osborn usually goes to.
The waiter pulled out a chair for me and handed me a simple and elegant menu after I was seated.
Waiter A: Mr. Osborn has already selected the afternoon tea set for you in advance. If you want to change it, you can tell me.
I nodded and looked down at the menu in my hand.
The tea set Osborn chose for me is very rich. It not only includes muffins, cakes and other desserts, but also different kinds of drinks and fruit wines.
A cursory glance was enough for me to immediately confirm that this was not the default set menu of this store, but one that Osborn had specially customized for me.
The reason was very simple. Whether it is desserts or types of drinks, all of them are my favourites.
Tumblr media
MC: No problem, I’ll go with whatever’s written on it.
Waiter A: Okay, hold on a minute, this is for you.
The warm wind from the window swept through the tip of my nose, and I didn't get any message from Osborn, except for the cafe photo just now, there was no new news.
What’s Osborn doing now? He specially selected this place, could it be that he wanted to give me an unexpected surprise?
I was filled with wild fantasies until I was interrupted by the voice of the waiter.
Waiter A: Miss MC, your black tea.
MC: Huh….. okay, thank you.
An exquisite tea set gilded with gold and enamel sat on the waiter’s tray. He picked up the teapot and poured tea into the cup. White steam arose.
Waiter A: Enjoy your tea.
After I picked up the teacup and blew it to cool, I took a sip carefully. The fragrance of tea mixed with the fragrance of fruit quickly spread in my mouth, making the waiting time pleasant.
Not long after, footsteps came from behind me again.
?.?: Hello, this is your afternoon tea.
Tumblr media
Hearing the familiar voice, I put the teacup down and turned my head in surprise.
Sure enough, the person who came to me with the dessert cart was Osborn.
Osborn was wearing an elegant black three-piece suit and stood tall beside me.
Unlike his usual leisurely style of dressing, this tailored and fitting suit enveloped his sturdy figure very well.
An elegant bow tie was wrapped around his neck, restrained and reserved.
His black hair was tidied till not a single strand was out of place. Sunlight filtered through his hair, adding a few dashes of tenderness to the person in front of me.
Osborn picked up the tray beside him and placed the colorful drinks and three-tier dessert rack on the table.
His movements were neat, and even his usual cynical expression was restrained a bit.
I blinked, a little surprised as to why Osborn was being this formal today.
Looking at his different handsome appearance than usual, my heart beat a few beats involuntarily.
After setting the afternoon tea, Osborn pulled on his gloves, put one hand behind his back, and made a "please" gesture with the other hand.
Tumblr media
Osborn: Your afternoon tea is ready, please enjoy it slowly.
After Osborn finished speaking, he did not leave, but stood by my side with a serious expression on his face, as if he was ready to serve me at any time.
Looking at Osborn, who was a different person from usual, I was in a daze, so I stretched out my hand and poked his waist.
Tumblr media
MC: Why did Great boss Osborn change his career?
The seriousness just now seemed to be just my illusion. Osborn had a wicked smile on his face, bent down and tapped the tip of my nose with his finger.
Tumblr media
Osborn: It’s all because a certain little greedy cat ate so much that I became poor. I had no choice but to work.
The person in front of me was talking nonsense while having a serious expression. I tried my best to hold back my laughter and cooperate with his performance.
MC: Then you still ordered so many desserts for me? Aren't you afraid you won't be able to pay for it?
Osborn: After you finish eating, you will go to the kitchen with me to wash the dishes and pay off the debt.
Tumblr media
MC: Pfft, don't talk nonsense, why are you dressed like this?
Tumblr media
Osborn: There's no reason, I want to give you some freshness.
Osborn: Today this cafe is only open for you, and I am your exclusive waiter.
Saying that, Osborn took out another menu and put it in front of me.
Compared with the restaurant's elegant menu, this menu is completely handmade, and from the handwriting of "MC Exclusive Menu", it is very likely that Osborn painted it himself.
Thinking about this, the Menu in my hand suddenly became precious.
Osborn stretched out his hand and turned it's backside. It listed a variety of service types, including dining service, relaxation service, fragrance service, entertainment service, and tour service.
Tumblr media
Osborn: Everything today will be at your service, and I will follow all your commands.
Osborn's words made me feel a little bit moved. I looked at the Menu in front of me hesitantly, thinking about the service I chose.
Osborn: But let me say this upfront -
Osborn's slender fingers deliberately fell on the right side of Menu, with a bit of bewitchment and a smile in his tone.
Tumblr media
Osborn: These services are not free, and each has a corresponding price.
Only then did I find that those services were not marked with a price, but were replaced by different quantities of red lip prints.
That row of red and full lip prints were filled with vibrant and warm colors. Could it be…
Tumblr media
MC: Shouldn't this lip print be….
Tumblr media
Osborn: Yep, that's exactly what you think it means.
Osborn: Excuse me, what service do you want to choose?
He bowed down, and the coaxing tone came to my ears, I decided — —

Fun Amphibia side character theory
Hi welcome to my TED Talk, I promise this theory has nothing to do with severing characters' arms. Without further ado, here are my reasons to believe that "One-Eyed" Wally Ribbiton is Ivy Sundew's father!
Tumblr media
I first subscribed to this theory in March '21 & have since become its most fervent champion, plugging it wherever I could. And now with Amphibia S3B coming in less than a month, I'm finally deciding to make my case here on tumblr. Also the images are from my reddit post about this
So let's start off with how similar Wally & Ivy's respective Season 2 episodes are: "Swamp & Sensibility" & "Ivy on The Run". In both episodes, Ivy & Wally fight with their parents, who set different expectations on their children. When those expectations are shattered, the parents and children compete against each other. In the end, the children win & reconcile with their parents. Of course, there are a few embellishments to distinct the two episodes, but the plots to both are more or less the same!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In "Swamp", we find out Wally actually lives outside the valley as a very rich boy, & he only poses as a homeless vagrant to escape the stresses of rich boy life. In "Ivy", we find out Felicia, Ivy's mom, traveled outside the valley before Ivy was born. It's not implausible to assume that Felicia traveled to Wally's town of Ribbitvale while collecting her tea & china, where they met & hit it off. A lot off.
When Wally decided to leave Ribbitvale, why did he go for Wartwood? It's a relatively unassuming town, sure, but it's like he was going there for something or someone. Felicia, perhaps. But at this time, Felicia could've been pregnant with Ivy, & knowing Wally didn't want to take part in a family in fear of becoming like his father, Felicia didn't tell him he was the baby daddy and let him be a vagrant.
Tumblr media
In "Ivy on The Run", about four minutes in we discover Wally is an expert fighter in Muay Thai, or whatever the Amphibia equivalent is. In the same episode, Ivy & Felicia's final battle is a 3-round Muay Thai battle, where it's revealed Felicia is also a very skilled fighter, having picked up the moves outside the valley. Having Wally & Felicia revealed to be adept fighters in the same episode does sound a little sus. Maybe they had the same teacher, or they taught each other. Honestly it's cute thinking about them teaching each other moves.
Tumblr media
Wally & Ivy share similar characteristics. They're both wild childs compared to their pompous parents. And in "Anne of The Year", Ivy pulls down her hat so that only one of her eyes is shown. One Eyed Ivy, anyone? Okay. They also seem to be self-conscious about their hair. In "Wally & Anne", Wally's iconic hat blows away and he says, "My iconic hat!", revealing a luscious Beatle-esque hairdo. And he says it like he's ashamed of people seeing his hair, Wally baby don't be ashamed! Anyway, Ivy has a similar reaction when her hat falls off in "The Shut In", and she tells Sprig not to look at her, even though Sprig thinks she looks gr8. The hair keeps in "Ivy on The Run", so while most of the stuff in "Shut-In" might have been non-canon, Ivy's self-consciousness may just be canon.
Also this is probs reading too much into things, but both Ivy & Wally have purple mouths while Felicia has a bit of a turquoise mouth. And Wally's open eye is the same color as Ivy's skin. Yeah that's a stretch but it's not implausible.
Oh and I also wanna point out a scene in "Reunion" where one of the toads throws Wally to the floor, & Ivy's first reaction is to throw a plate at the toad. Even though Ivy probably doesn't know Wally is her father, it's a reaction like that that really shows Ivy has some sort of connection to Wally.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Onto what I think is the most damning piece of evidence. In "Ivy on The Run", Ivy says to Felicia that she still can't believe she was a world traveler. Keep in mind while Anne & Sprig are in the shot, the only people fully in frame are Ivy, Felicia & Wally. Wally's on the left side of the frame while the Sundews are in center. Anyway, Felicia replies "Oh honey, where do you think I met your father?" Instantly, the camera shifts left to have Wally in the center frame. Our attention has been brought to the mother & daughter to this side character. There is a sense of importance to this character now.
Trust me guys, I took many film classes, I know my film theory.
There's also a sting chord played after Felicia says that, which makes it a little "aha" moment for people who cared who Ivy's father is. I wasn't one of those people but I've been converted.
Also there was no reason at all for Wally to be in Ivy's episode. The only logical reason is that they're building up to something. I've clarified Wally & Ivy's episodes are the same conceptually, so having Wally in Ivy's episode is logical just to remind us of his episode. If Wally isn't revealed to be Ivy's father, then there was no reason to have him there at all.
Tumblr media
Anyway yeah, that's my theory, thanks for looking at this & feel free to give your feedback even though none of this is up for debate. Special thanks to RedMetalSky on reddit for basically birthing this theory.

The Best Quiche in Tokyo
Rating: ‼️18+ Minors Do Not Interact ‼️
Warnings: explicit sexuality (it literally takes place at an orgy so like.......Y’know)
Characters: Hatter (Takeru), Aguni, and Female Reader (You)
Summary: When one of your customers invites you to a potluck-slash-orgy, you assume the “orgy” part is a joke—because nobody really hosts a potluck and an orgy at the same time, right?
Notes: One time, @nessinborderland (happy belated birthday btw) gave me the brilliant idea of Hatter hosting an orgy and serving really good food and I just......ran with it. This ended up being part comedy, part character study—and mostly features Aguni, if you can believe it! I don’t know, I just let the story take me where it wanted to go! (Also, this is definitely the longest thing I’ve written on here, so get ready to dig in!)
It’s a beautiful Sunday afternoon in March, and you’re standing in front of a hat shop. Well, technically, you’re slightly to the left of a hat shop, peering down a skinny alleyway in search of a door or a set of stairs—something to indicate that there is, in fact, an apartment up there and this is not just an elaborate prank.
There is a very good chance this is a prank—after all, the eccentric man who walked into your stationary store two weeks ago seemed...off. Not in a bad way, just. One-of-a-kind. Unique. Entirely himself, in a way that people usually aren’t.
Was he flirting or was he just overly friendly when he leaned in just a bit too close to see the various fonts available for his choosing? It’s difficult to say. He did seem genuinely interested to know the difference between serif and sans serif, which doesn’t much thrill your customers on the regular. Does asking for an extra business card ‘for his personal records’ count as a pick-up line? It’s hard to say. Not that it matters much, of course—you are a professional, he is a customer, and there’s nothing more to it.
And you really are a professional, because when he told you that he wanted—in metallic gold, 30-point, center aligned—to say, quote, “The Third Annual Springtime Potluck and Orgy: Presented by Danma Takeru,” you didn’t so much as bat an eye. Partially because he was very insistent that you spell his name correctly, and partially because. Well. How does a person respond to that?
In truth, he ended up being one of your better customers—he showed a genuine interest in the process while still deferring to your expertise—and when one of the printed invitations arrived in your mailbox, you figured you might as well go see what the fuss is about. It could be an opportunity to meet some new friends, maybe drum up a little business if you’re lucky.
And besides—a potluck-slash-orgy? Who would even do that?
The merry little jingle of bell catches your attention, and you turn your head to see a solemn-looking man peeking his head around the hat shop’s glass door. He looks at you. He looks at the plastic-wrapped pie in your hands. He looks back at you.
He frowns.
“Hi,” you say, putting on your most charming smile in the hopes that he’ll stop looking at you like you just slapped him across the face, “I’m, uh, I’m here for the party!”
You shuffle over to him, careful not to scuff the white of your sensible-yet-pretty patent leather heels on the sidewalk. Maybe you’re dressed too formally—he’s wearing a plain white t-shirt and a pair of jeans while you’re sporting a calf-length chiffon dress dyed in a lovely array of watercolor blues and violets.
Oh dear, what a faux-pas! There was no dress code listed on the invite, but maybe you should’ve dressed in a more casual fashion. You don’t live far, you could probably run home quickly and change...
“Do you...have an invitation,” the man asks, crossing his arms across his chest and furrowing his brow. Is he annoyed? No, no. He seems. Confused? Wary? How very strange.
“Oh, of course,” you answer, reaching a fumbling hand into your purse to search for the little pink envelope, “I almost forgot it walking out the door, but I remembered at the last second! I can be a bit scatterbrained sometimes!”
The man doesn’t say anything, but leans forward to inspect the invitation once you manage to produce it from the cluttered mess that is your handbag.
“I know the time said it started at three, but the pie took a little longer than expected. It takes time for the chocolate to set, and—“ you gasp, covering your mouth with your invite-laden hand, “I haven’t kept you waiting, have I? I’m so sorry, Mister...?”
“Call me Aguni,” he says, and his eyes narrow slightly when you give him your most chipper ‘thank you’ and apologize for not being able to shake his hand at the moment. What a strange man.
“You,” he asks slowly, “you read the invitation, right?”
“Of course I did! I’m the one who made them,” you explain, puffing your chest up with pride, “and our host was kind enough to send one to me! He must have really liked my work!”
“...Yeah,” the man called Aguni says, “I’m sure that’s it.”
But, to your pleasure, he steps aside and holds the door open for you to enter. Such a strange man, but at least he’s gentlemanly enough to hold the door for you as you step inside.
“Oh, wow,” you say, “this place is amazing!”
And maybe it sounds silly, but you’re being entirely honest. There are hats in shelves, hats hanging on the wall, hats on faceless plastic heads on the counter and placed atop a long wooden table to the left—all of them in different shapes and colors, embellished and feathered and ribboned to the nines. There’s a certain magic to a little place like this, a kind of whimsical charm you want to bottle and keep on the kitchen windowsill.
“Walls could use some paint. Floor needs polished, too,” Aguni says, “but...yeah, I guess it’s nice enough.”
You follow him as he leads you towards the back, your eyes drinking in all the details of this fascinating little shop.
“No, no, the walls and the floor are perfect,” you assert with a wide-mouthed smile, “it gives it character. Makes it feel...like home, I think.”
“Takeru says the same thing,” Aguni answers with a chuckle, “although I also think he just doesn’t want to put in the work. He’s...not very handy.”
There is a second door at the very back of the shop, and once again, Aguni holds it open for you. Perhaps his original air of discontent was a simple case of shyness—maybe he just takes a bit to warm up to people. Well, just wait until he tries your homemade triple-chocolate silk pie; you’ll be best friends in no time!
He leads you into a tiny courtyard, which is just barely big enough to hold a steep set of metal stairs and a handful of plant pots, which remain empty due to the early spring cold. But, oh, it must be so lovely back here when the plants are in full bloom! You say as much to your companion, who actually manages to smile a bit in your direction as he leads you up the stairs.
“Those are mine, actually,” he tells you, his boot-covered feet thunking up the stairs at a leisurely pace, “He lets me garden back here.”
You picture it—this tall, stoic man, kneeling on the ground, his gloved hands tending little green sprouts as the morning sun shines gold and warm on the cold stone ground. The thought of it warms you. Does he know anything about succulents? You’ve always thought they would look so cute in the shop...
“Look,” Aguni says when the two of you reach a very drab-looking door, “I’m not trying to be a jerk, but...you sure you’re ready for this?”
What an odd thing to say! Maybe you’re acting more nervous than you originally thought? It is rather daunting, walking into a party of strangers; but, nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?
“You’re sweet for worrying about me,” you respond, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder, “but if everyone is half as lovely as you, I’m sure I’ll do just fine. I will probably stick with you for a while—if that’s okay, of course!”
“Alright, then.” Aguni says—and is that a hint of a blush you see creeping up his neck? All this time, you thought he was just being strange, but he’s just a little shy! You give his arm a knowing pat before withdrawing your touch, and he quickly turns around to unlock the door.
Are all of Takeru’s friends this adorable? You hope so. You follow your bashful escort inside—the genkan is already full of shoes, but you manage to squeeze yours in between a pair of snakeskin wedge heels and the wall. Aguni also removes his boots, and you’re happy he isn’t going to stay down in the hat shop the whole time. He can introduce you to everyone, and maybe—
You hear something. Was that...? No, no, you must be imagining things. You definitely did not just hear a woman moan on the other side of the wall. You stop and angle your head towards the door slightly to get a better listen. It’s all rather muffled (it must be well-insulated!) but there’s definitely some kind of music playing. Maybe it’s part of a song?
It happens again. This time, it’s deeper, and more of a prolonged “ah” sound. And then laughter. Aguni is looking at you in that concerned way of his again.
Instead of waiting for him to open the door for you a third time, you decide to take initiative and open it yourself—a show of confidence, to put his mind at ease. For a moment, it looks like he’s going to try and stop you, but he instead just crosses his arms and watches as you open the door to the rest of the house.
The first thing you see is candles. Little flickering spots of yellow-orange flame, winking inside clear glass votives. A trio of them on the kitchen table to the left, surrounded by a mismatched variety of trays and plates and bowls, each holding a different delicacy.
There’s a candle on the kitchen counter, next to the refrigerator. One on a bookshelf, which is filled to bowing with vinyl LP’s. Two on either side of the television, and a cluster of them on a coffee table next to a fishbowl of shiny gold squares and—
Oh.
Oh, dear.
There are limbs. Moving, writing, reaching. Hands grabbing. Mouths kissing. Mouths...doing things other than kissing. Oh, God, there’s boobs. And somebody’s butt. Aw, geez, there goes another one. How many naked people are there in here, anyways?
“Oh, hey!”
A familiar voice calls out from the fleshy throng, and your stomach drops. Like Venus emerging from the surf, you see Danma Takeru rise up from the crowd, hair mussed and smiling mouth smudged with at least two different colors of lipstick. While he does appear to be wearing some kind of brightly-patterned robe, the more he stands, the less confident you are that it’s actually covering anything.
You spin on your heel, unwilling as of the moment to become visually acquainted with your host’s penis, and you’re met once more with Aguni’s concerned stare. This time, though, you understand why hes looking at you like that, and it makes the burn of embarrassment creeping up your neck that much hotter.
“Do you want to leave?”
This is. Oh, boy. This is a lot. Aguni must be able to sense your discomfort, although you imagine it’s rather palpable at the moment.
“I,” you say, “I don’t...know.”
And you say you don’t know because you truly don’t know what to do. Was it really so naïve of you to think that the ‘orgy’ part of the invitation was some kind of weird inside joke? Is there some kind of social protocol for these things?
You feel two hands descend upon each of your shoulders, and you try to convince yourself that they are slightly damp with sweat as opposed to any other kind of aqueous material.
“You made it,” Takeru exclaims with genuine excitement as he gives your person a gentle shake, “I’m so glad you decided to come!”
“He’s covered, don’t worry,” Aguni says to you before directing his attention over your shoulder, “I take it you didn’t tell her.”
“Tell her what?”
The hand on your right shoulder stays while the left slips away, leaving room for Takeru to stand at your side and squeeze you against him in a weird little half-hug. In another situation, you might enjoy the way the silk of his robe whispers against the skin of your arms, perhaps smile at the warm comfort of a lazy arm thrown about your shoulders like a heavy scarf, but. Well. Right now, it’s just a little...awkward.
Aguni rolls his eyes.
“About that,” he says, gesturing impatiently at the debauchery behind your back, “I mean, just look at her face.”
“Mori-chan, how could you be so rude to our lovely guest? Darling,” Takeru says, turning your face towards him with two fingers under your chin, “don’t listen to him, you’re...ah, I see what you mean.”
Is your expression really that bad? It must be, because Takeru very slowly and very carefully withdrawing his arm from around your shoulder and taking a generous step to the side. His mouth is twisted into a rather comical gaping frown, his eyes nervously darting side-to-side.
“In my defense,” he says, putting his hands up like some kind of fucked-out traffic cop at a four-way intersection, “the, uh, the orgy part was very prominent. Big letters, right at the top.”
“I,” you reply, “I thought it was...a joke?”
“This is why we don’t just hand out invitations,” Aguni grits through his teeth, “for fuck’s sake, Takeru, we’ve talked about this!”
“I know, I know. I am humble enough to admit when I’ve fucked up, and this time, I have fucked up in a truly spectacular fashion,” Takeru’s gaze shifts from horrified to quizzical as he scrutinized you for a moment, “Unless...you’d like to stay?”
You look at the pie. The slowly-warming chocolate is beginning to sweat beneath the thin film of plastic wrap you so lovingly secured with lilac ribbon.
“Or you could slap him on the way out,” Aguni offers, “he’s very slap-able.”
“It’s true! And when you slap me,” he whips his head to the side suddenly, “my hair does that and it looks really cool!”
Yeah, okay—it did look pretty cool. But, does he deserve to be slapped? Probably for something else, but not for this. It’s a simple misunderstanding, and honest mistake on both your parts.
“I want...” you start, and the way they’re looking at you, wide-eyed and breath-bated, reminds you of the final rose ceremony on The Bachelorette.
It’s kind of hilarious, actually.
“I, uh,” you continue, “I want to...to put this in the refrigerator, if that’s okay? It’s, uh, starting to melt...”
To say that Takeru’s face lights up is an understatement. With a mega-watt smile and a sparkle in his eye, he swoops his arm back around your shoulder and begins leading you towards the kitchen.
Although you have (almost) gotten used to the sea of strangers fucking and moaning in the background, you still choose to politely avert your gaze as you pass them by. You instead focus on Takeru, who has taken this opportunity to explain the inner-workings of...whatever this is.
“...And I personally see to it that these events remain exclusive,” he says, “Although I do occasionally invite outsiders, such as yourself. You were just so sweet and helpful, I couldn’t resist trying my luck and sending you an invite.”
“Thank you,” you say, “although, I, uh...”
He opens the refrigerator door and motions for you to place the pie inside. Luckily, it’s mostly empty, save for a collection of bottled water and a tin of what looks to be cat food. You’re grateful to not have to carry it around anymore, and thank him for his assistance.
It’s finally time for you to acknowledge the proverbial ‘elephant in the room’—except, you’re not exactly sure how to begin.
“I,” you start, stopping to bite your lip, “I, uh. Is it okay if I...don’t, y’know, do the whole...uh...sex thing?”
“Oh, do you prefer to watch?”
“No! I mean, no, uh,” you laugh nervously, “I’m just...”
Takeru chuckles.
“I’m only teasing. You’re more than welcome to skip the sex and go straight to the food. As long as you’re on the kitchen side, nobody will touch you. It’s one of our rules.”
He motions for Aguni to come over with a wave of his arm, smiling when the tall man comes to lean against the kitchen counter.
“Mori-chan also prefers to abstain from the more salacious aspects of our little gathering, so the two of you can keep each other company.”
“I’m usually in charge of the food,” Aguni adds, “and I try to make sure the candles stay lit.”
“I, uh, I noticed those on the way in. They’re nice.”
Takeru leans towards you as if he’s about to share a secret.
“I don’t mean to be indelicate,” he says in a low tone, “but there is a certain stench that comes with these events. Sweat, musk, various secretions...it all really adds up in the end.”
“It’s awful,” Aguni concludes, “but candles help dissipate the worst of it.”
“Oh, and the ambiance,” Takeru exclaims, “there’s just nothing like candlelight to really get people in the mood for—“
A sharp ding! makes you jump. From what you can gather, it came from the small oven to Aguni’s left.
“Hold it right there,” Takeru growls towards Aguni, who had been in the middle of donning a pair of floral-printed oven mitts, “she needs thirty more seconds.”
Aguni looks at you and rolls his eyes. You stifle a giggle behind your hand, hoping your host doesn’t notice.
“I saw that,” Takeru snips towards Aguni, “honestly, Mori-chan, you get one new friend...”
And even though he’s mid-scold, there remains a joviality to Takeru’s tone—a testament, you believe, to what can only be a long-standing friendship between him and Aguni. It’s hard not to feel jealous of their easy back-and-forth, their banter like a well-matched game of tennis.
“Now you can take her out,” Takeru says, “but, so help me God, if you don’t let her rest for seven minutes–“
“–They’ll never find my body, I know, I know,” Aguni finishes, gingerly placing a metal pan on the stove, “Look, we’ve got it handled. You can go back to your side of the party and I’ll call you when it’s plated.”
“Fine,” Takeru answers with a false pout, “but only because I know she’ll keep you honest.”
And just like that, it’s just you and Aguni once more—but, this time, he seems much more at ease to have you around. Happy, almost. It must be kind of boring, sitting alone in a kitchen while everyone else is...well, busy.
“So,” you say, moving to Aguni’s side to peer into the baking pan, “looks kind of like...a quiche?”
“Not just any quiche,” Aguni answers, opening the drawer to his right and digging a hand inside, “the best quiche in Tokyo.”
He pulls out a shiny silver chef’s knife and places it on the counter. Next comes a pair of dainty forks, delicate little things one might use for tea cakes at a French-inspired bistro. Knowing what you know about Takeru—which, granted, isn’t very much at all—it doesn’t surprise you in the least.
“You’re in front of the plates,” he says, tapping the cabinet directly in front of your face, “grab us some?”
“But we’re supposed to wait seven minutes,” you protest, all while following his instructions, “it’s only been...like, three.”
Aguni’s eyes take on a glint of mischief.
“Only a problem if we get caught.”
Honestly, it looks divine. Pillowy-soft and the perfect pale-yellow hue, delicate tendrils of steam billowing out as he drags the knife through. You hadn’t ever seen a non-rectangular quiche before, but you suppose it makes sense; there are a fair few people in attendance, and the standard circular composition wouldn’t quite feed everyone.
He serves you first. A corner piece (which he insists are the best), speckled with herbs and studded with little pieces of what you assume to be some kind of ham. Little strings of cheese stick to the blade of the knife, and Aguni scrapes them off with the side of a fork, which he then hands to you.
“Takeru doesn’t cook much,” Aguni explains, playing his own small square, “but when he does...”
The sound that comes from your mouth as you take your first bite of quiche could rival any of those happening in the orgy across the room. Oh, that is so good! Buttery crust, the salt of cheese and ham, the subtle bite of onion—and there’s something else there, something you can’t quite place, but you know it tastes absolutely heavenly. Immediately, you take another bite.
“Grew the herbs de Provence myself,” Aguni mentions, “He refuses to use store-bought.”
“Makes all the difference,” you respond, “I could eat the whole pan by myself.”
“I did that for my last birthday, actually,” Aguni chuckles around a forkful of quiche, “Takeru insisted on putting all thirty-eight candles in before carrying it to the table—you know, like a dumbass. Part of his hair caught fire, and I had to give him a haircut at two in the morning because he was so distraught.”
The two of you laugh—Aguni at the memory, and you at the idea of a tearful Takeru sulking as Aguni snipping the fried locks with a pair of kitchen shears.
“He forgave me, even though I took a whole two inches off,” Aguni sets his empty plate in the sink and looks out of the small window above it, “He’s not a bad guy, you know. Doesn’t always make the best choices, sure, but he’s got a good heart in him.”
There is a sadness here, something in Aguni that speaks to a troubled past you haven’t quite unearthed yet—and you know better than to press him, especially here, especially now.
“Well, I can’t say I’m an expert,” you say, handing him your plate, “but you two seem like decent people. Orgies aside, of course.”
“Of course,” Aguni nods, “though I don’t suppose you’ll come to the next one, will you?”
For the first time since your arrival, you allow yourself to watch the festivities happening across the room. It isn’t that bad, you suppose—it’s just a group of people having a fun time together, laughing and gasping and enjoying each others’ bodies in a safe and comfortable place. It’s not something you necessarily want to do yourself, but...well, the ‘weird’ factor of the whole thing has gone down exponentially over the past hour or so.
“And miss out on the best quiche in Tokyo,” you say, nudging against Aguni’s arm with your shoulder, “not a chance!”

Afosiosi Astynomía (devotion) (stardust) - Mother of Adonia - grandmother of Foínix, a Hetaira working and living on Thessia. A very well to do lady. Owns a racing skycar Mark I 2055 Shadow - slate gray with red racing stripes and 8 point harness. Has a 2 story spired home on thessia. Her Caracara circles appear all the way up her face as tight lines striping her skin behind the cheekbones up to the corners of her eyes, her entire body is covered in them. There are flowers of life on the back of both hands where a new ring is added every 10 years. The flowers climb up her arms in groups of 100 years in tight ring clusters embellished with climbing victory plants. Knows the secrets of her granddaughter.
Kohrr Nendi - krogan grandfather of fen. Pappoús. A retired merc, he now spends his time helping train the local garrison recruits for their Huntress cadra. On days his beloved wife works he sits or walks quietly nearby, as her personal bodyguard. Call him sentimental…. But if someone was going to kill him, he would want it to be with her. Kohrr is a olive green and tan colored krogan. His carapace is littered with scars, his most notable is the star shaped scar on his hump where he says he deflected a planet killer with his shell. Knows the secrets of his granddaughter.
Kari shifted uncomfortably in her current situation. She had been sitting at the bar of Star Crossed on Thessia for four hours waiting for her date. Forked over an absurd amount of credits for the two drinks and one plate of snacks she could afford and still they had not appeared.
The bartender was eying her from the far side where they were pouring others drinks. She knew they would be coming over soon asking her what she was going to do next. She didn’t feel the need to buy another drink, but wasn’t yet ready to go. Taffy had been really sweet to her, and she didn’t want to leave only to have them come to her tomorrow asking where she had been. Still, another drink was too much, both for her meager account, and her constitution.
She frowned looking from the door back to her almost empty, nursed drink. Her attention flicked to her omni-tool as it lit up, maybe it was Taffy. A thrill ran through her as it opened only to find her Fen-locator blipping in close proximity. She watched it wondering what business Fen had down by the waterfront. Her Parent’s parents lived two hours away by skycar.
Her heart beat sped up as it blipped straight for Star Crossed. She looked from the locator to the door. Fen was talking to the maître d'. Gold eyes shifted her way, her expression upset.
Their eyes met, Fen’s expression softening, a smile twitching her lips. Kari felt warm, and couldn’t help the smile she returned.
Fen stood at the entryway as the maître d' came towards her.
“Ms. Teíchos, there is a… guest, requesting you at the door.”
“Oh. T-thank you.” It felt odd to be called Ms, she was blushing when she got to the door.
Rather than speak she looked down at her feisty small friend in silent question. If she waited long enough, Foínix would always tell her why she was doing so.
“Did you bring a coat?”
“No. Thessia is hot compared to-.”
“That’s fine. Come on, we are going.” “We are?” She asked, as a small hand slipped with firm purpose into her own. Small dark fingers curling around it and tightening. She followed after Fen. “Where are we going Fen?”
“My family wants to meet you.”
Warmth touched Kari at that statement. “But…” “No buts.” There was a soft growl to Fen’s voice. She leaned forward into her march, looking like she was actually physically hauling Kari away from the overpriced bar.
Kari smiled leaning away from Fen just a little, causing her tiny friend to work a little harder. Amused by the situation. “I am supposed to have a date tonight, Fen.”
Fen grunted, pulling Kari’s arm over her shoulder, giving herself more leverage, making it hard for Kari to be disappointed in the evening's outcome. “Your information was wrong.”
“It… it was?”
“Mmhm. Your date is with me tonight… and after four hours, you don't owe …. THAT person a damn thing. Giagiá Sisi said that she would be disappointed if I didn’t fetch you for dinner. For some reason letting you be an adult and do your own thing is me being an impolite hostess.”
Kari flushed glad Fen was hauling her the way she was, so she wouldn't see the shame she felt at being duped again. “Did she say that?”
Whatever Fen replied was lost when she saw the GORGEOUS skycar waiting at the loading zone. Her eyes did a quick scan of the immediate area looking for the owner but no one was seen. Even if it was a pure dark charcoal base it would have caught her eye, the blood red stripes sealed the deal. Suddenly she forgot about the strange night, or her worry that Taffy would be stood up if she left. She expected to walk past that sleek chariot fit for a goddess of war, but Fen brought them to the side and touched the hidden interface on the side door. “Fen… is, is this your ride?”
“It is Giagiá car.”
“What does your Giagiá do Fen?” She asked, impressed by the Mark I 2055 Shadow, it was not a car she ever expected to get to touch, let alone ride in.
“She is a Hetaira like my Dame.”
“You come from Hetaira?!” Fen grunted.
Kari was still admiring the curves of the nearly illegal racing beast when she felt Fen’s small hands on her back, pushing her. She twisted looking over her shoulder. “Get in, or we will be late. Even with this monster we need a little time to get you ready for dinner.” “I didn’t even think we would make it home in time for dinner.” She admitted laughing softly as she peeked in. “Oh, hello.” There was a driver up front. “Fen, your Giagiá has a driver?”
“That’s pappoús. Khorr, Kari, Kari, Khorr.”
“Good evening Kari.”
“Evening. Wow, are you lucky to be able to drive this aircar!”
Khorr chuckled. “I feel that way every day Kari, if you would like, you can ride up front with me.” The big scarred krogan waved her forward.
“Really?!” She twisted out from under Fen’s hands, catching Fen with an arm when she fell forward. They blinked at each other, a blush rising on both their cheeks.
“Can I ride up front Fen?”
“O-of course!” When Fen found her feet she pulled at her shirt, straightening it.
Kari smiled before leaning down to press her brow softly if ever so briefly against Fen’s crest. “Thanks.” Excitedly she climbed into the front seat. “Wow! They even have the 8 point harness Fen!”
“Everyone in?” Khorr asked.
Kari looked back to be sure Fen was before answering. “Yes.” “Alright, buckle up, because we are going to open this baby up. One thing my bond mate hates is me being late for dinner.” Khorr guffawed as he turned them towards the skylane, and home.
——
By the time they got to Fen’s grandmother's house Kari was sure she hadn’t screamed so much in her life! It only took a tiny fraction of time to get them across the continent. She bounced out of the car pumping her arms and cracking her neck. A few times Khorr had applied the brake in sudden and exhilarating maneuvers.
He was laughing when he climbed out, pausing to look back at Fen still sitting on the backseat. “You look like your mother, how in the hell do you live on a space station without any space legs, my tough little firefly.” He guffawed again, reaching in for his granddaughter.
Kari was on the other side of the car, but the moment he got Fen’s harness undone she slipped both arms under Fen’s limp body and pulled her across the seat out of Khorr’s reach. “I got this!”
“P-papo, Omega d-oesn't move that fast.” Her words were broken and weak.
He harrumphed before laughing again. “Your old dad would’a like this one, she was a speed demon too.” He pointed a digit at Kari before leading them to the porch, where Kari guessed Fen’s grandmother stood watching them.
“Khorr my love… what have you done?”
The old Krogan broke into peals of laughter, his boisterous sound heard long after he disappeared through the front door of the modest two spired home. Kari stood on the walkway holding Fen, unsure what to do next as the older Matriarch stood observing them.
“Good evening to you Pallikári, daughter of Teíchos. Welcome, and be at peace in our home. I am Afosiosi, you may call me Sisi if you so wish.” Sisi was an elegant Matriarch, she seemed ageless and beautiful. The Caracara Circles that all Hetaira wore created a dense series of rings that crawled up her slender neck, and lines continuing clear up to the corners of her eyes leaving her face unmarked. She was not tall, but not short either. And though Kari looked down to meet her eyes on level ground, she felt as if she were still looking up. “Well, come in child, dinner is always better hot. Hopefully, by the time you get cleaned up, Foínix will have regained her proper color.” Another wave of spirited laughter came from within their home.

His skin is hard, cracked and scaled and looks like rhino hide coated in concrete.
Tattoos: Devastator has one tattoo on his chest, though it’s really more like a scar than actual ink. It’s a modified Kryptonian doom symbol, though embellished with parts of his iconic bat emblem. The longer he stays infected with the Doomsday virus, the more like Doomsday he becomes to the point that he starts thinking that he IS Doomsday, hence why the symbol is so important.

First Look: The Bentley Continental GT Mulliner Convertible
Bentley Mulliner - Bentley’s bespoke commissioning division - is today announcing the introduction of the new Continental GT Mulliner Convertible: the luxury pinnacle of the Continental GT family.
Mulliner has gone above and beyond the industry-leading craftsmanship of Bentley and the world’s definitive Grand Tourer to create the Continental GT Mulliner Convertible and redefine the pinnacle of roof-down automotive luxury.
The new Continental GT Mulliner Convertible has been created to appeal to those customers wanting an even greater focus on beautiful details. Taking pride of position between the cut-crystal inspired, precision-made headlamps, Bentley Mulliner introduces a bold new Double Diamond front grille which is further complemented by bespoke Mulliner branded side vents that continue the unique silver on black diamond theme.
The new Double Diamond design has been inspired by Bentley’s exclusive Diamond-in-Diamond interior quilting design concept, which adorns all four seats, the door casings, rear quarters and now for the first time furnishes the tonneau cover. The Diamond-in-Diamond interior quilting itself has been tailored to include contrast stitching in two complementary colors to accentuate the thread against the quilting. It takes almost 400,000 stitches to deliver this quilting across the cabin of the car, with each diamond containing exactly 712 individual stitches – each one precisely aligned to point to the center of the diamond it creates. Developing the embroidery process to deliver this process alone took 18 months.
Furnishing the sleek and muscular profile of the Continental GT Mulliner Convertible are all-new 22” 10-spoke painted & polished wheels with floating, self-leveling wheel badges that remain upright as the wheel rotates.
The ultimate handcrafted Continental GT Convertible interior offers eight custom-made three-color combinations. A new Mulliner-designed color split defines the eight color ways, including a third accent color to the interior in the form of a distinctive design line. The hand-stitched hides are embellished with unique Mulliner branded embroidery.
Bentley Mulliner has combined traditional and modern coachbuilding techniques to introduce new contemporary and bespoke features. A contrast diamond milled technical finish has been applied to the center console, which is finished with a new and exclusive brushed silver Breitling timepiece set within a quartet of chrome bulls eyes to provide stunning interior jewelry. The same theme carries from the physical to the digital, with the precision-rendered gauges of the LED-display driver’s instrument panel using the same brushed finished and Mulliner branding.
The new Continental GT Mulliner Convertible features mood lighting comprising of seven different themes, uplifted by illuminated Mulliner tread plates and LED welcome lamps that project the famous Bentley wings to the ground from the door mirrors.
The Continental GT Mulliner Convertible is available with the top of the range Naim for Bentley audio system. The state of the art setup features eighteen speakers and two Active Bass transducers driven by a 2,200-watt, 20-channel amplifier and eight DSP sound modes with Active Bass.

Sybil in #15 and #16, James in #8, Nassella in #6, Naomi in #21 (Thedas for all!). :)
Ok! I had to pull together a lot of different pictures for most of these looks, but it was fun, and gives me a chance to show off some of my Pinterest stuff! Thanks for asking!
Sybil Trevelyan
Tumblr media
15. Summer clothes
Tumblr media
Sybil almost exclusively wears dark colors, and many of her clothes are ragged and more patches than original fabric. In the hot, humid Free Marches summers she prefers to wear strappy tops that leave most of her chest and shoulders exposed, and tight cropped pants (shorter than the ones pictured). But she burns easily, so she always has with her a thin cowl that she can sling over her shoulders and head when she’s in the sun, or pull off and wrap around her waist or hips or stuff in a pocket when she’s inside. The cowl also has the benefit of covering up some of her bright hair and skin when she’s trying to blend into the shadows.
16. Winter clothes
Tumblr media
Sybil’s winter clothing is much like her summer clothing, just with more layers. She has to carry around everything she owns in a couple of bags, so in the winter she just piles on a few more layers to stay warm and calls it good. A ragged sweater and home-made, long sleeved tunics with built in hoods are staples, and a longer wool cloak for those especially cold nights.
(ok, i was going to put a cut, but my theme makes the pictures too small!)
James Westerkamp
Tumblr media
8. A party outfit
Tumblr media
James doesn’t mind dressing up, so long as he is sure he’ll look good in whatever he is wearing. He’s not a fan of the tight, frilly clothes Orlesian men like to wear, and anything involving silks and velvet are just a bit too much for him. He discovers quickly that Ferelden finery suits him the best. The clothes are well-made from practical materials like leather and wool, but embellished and finely dyed and woven to look beautiful. He always feels confident when wearing something like this.
Nassella Lavellan
Tumblr media
6. Formal gala garb
Tumblr media
Nassella has only worn a ballgown once in her life, and it was something to behold (I’ve had to cobble together the pieces as nothing like what I imagine exists). Drawing inspiration from sleek Dalish clothing and armor, the dress featured a long, flowing skirt in dark charcoal with a slit up one side. The bodice was plate armor gilded in gold and intricate floral designs. The charcoal skirts were covered in folds of gauzy fabric with leaves and flowers embroidered with gold thread, emeralds, and peridot. It was the most expensive thing she had ever seen, much less worn.
Naomi Westerkamp
Tumblr media
21. The most expensive thing they own
Tumblr media
If we are speaking strictly clothing, then the gown Naomi wore to the peace talks at the Winter Palace is the most expensive. It was cleaned and repaired after that night, but she hasn’t had another chance to wear it. Made from dark green velvet and rich brocade, it resembled the dress on the right. However, the neckline was cut lower and the bodice encrusted with bright green peridot, matching and drawing out the color of her eyes at the time.
However, beyond clothing, the most valuable thing Naomi owns is her engagement ring. A cluster of enchanted precious stones set in lyrium-infused and enchanted silverite, Naomi never asked Cullen how much it cost Dagna to make. But aside from the precious stones and metals, the mana the ring contains, eventually built up to a staggering amount after years of drawing the excess from Naomi’s body, is beyond priceless.

Javellana (1982) initiated this effort of documenting some palaspas forms, which he grouped in terms of their function, such as arches for weddings and fiestas, food wrappers, and playthings. In the present paper, I use both archival and oral sources, and some of my own life experiences and field observations, to appreciate an art form that Filipinos share in varying degrees of complexity and elaboration with other pan Pacific and Asian countries. In defining the text of the art of palaspas, I follow the approach of Plasencia by simply elaborating on the material or the medium used, the techniques employed, designs or forms, and functions. To go beyond Plasencia, I identify the various expressions of palaspas in feasting, food art and everyday life, its historical and cultural context, and its manifestations in other genres such as literature, poetry, the art of church sculpture, prints, painting and other expressions. In the end, I will say something about its significance for a syncretic religion, for we will gain an appreciation of the strength and richness of the art of palaspas, the expressive elements of which did not die with an acquired faith and its ensuing cultural assimilation. Rather it prevailed and metmorphosed into expressions that, though still reflecting indigenous structures, can now be reinterpreted within the context of adopted beliefs.
Elmer I. Nocheseda, "Palaspas Vernacular: Towards an Appreciation of Palm Leaf Art in the Philippines", Philippine Quarterly of Culture and Society, Vol. 32, No. 1, Special Issue: Philippine Arts and Crafts I (March 2004), pp. 1-72.
Describing the first baptism (of the Cebuan Rajah Humabon) in the Philippines almost seventy years before Plasencia, Pigafetta wrote in 1525 that "a platform was built in the consecrated square, which was adorned with hangings and palm branches..." (Pigafetta 1905: 155). For her baptism, the queen "was young and beautiful and was entirely covered with white and black cloth.. .while on her head she wore a large hat of palm leaves in the manner of a parasol, with a crown about it of the same leaves, like the tiara of the pope; and she never goes any place without such a one" (Pigafetta 1905: 159). Later on he described the funeral rites for a chief. The principal women sat near the coffin, under branches of trees that were hung from ropes surrounding the coffin. Next to each woman was a girl "who fanned her with a palm-leaf fan" (Pigafetta 1905: 173).
In his short glossary of Visayan terms, he listed some items made of palm, like uliman, "leaf cushions" (Pigafetta 1905: 195), tagichan and bani, "palm mats" (p. 105), and the word for the fruit of the coconut palm itself, lubi (p.193).
[...]
The early Spanish accounts noted the many uses of the palm leaves and the ingenuity of the Filipinos in using them as paper on which they wrote their notes with a pointed stylus or iron point (Bourne 1902: 144, Chirino 1904: 243). Woven palms were used as sails (Transylvanus 1902: 305) and as hats (implied by San Antonio 1906: 328). Palm leaves could be made to serve as torches or anime (Pigafetta 1905: 121, 199). One account noted that the early Sambal tied long strips of anahau onto the hilts of their daggers in commemoration of having struck the first blow in a killing (Perez 1906: 323).
[...]
More than a century after Pigafetta in 1668, Fr Alcina still noticed that the indios de Bisayas used nipa palm leaves "to make a very large kind of chain (cadenzas muy grandes) which, when yellow, looks like gold. They also make these chains out of coconut fronds. Thus with these palm chains they adorn the roofs and walls of churches." These simple decorations took the place of the brocades and tapestries of Flanders in Europe. Alcina praised these artistic creations when he said that, "God who did not disclaim to be born on straw and in the bed of a poor manger, it seems, has provided for the lack of these natives and their temples" (Alcina 2002: 363). However, he also noted that as time passed the church ornamentation became increasingly European.
Other than passing notices from the Spanish chroniclers about this Filipino penchant for decorating and embellishing their rituals with palaspas, there was no comprehensive effort to document this art as to its aesthetics, functions, symbolism and values. No document was able to record in detail how the intricate folds and weaves were done. Perhaps it had been assumed that the art was too commonplace, ordinary, or evanescent to deserve any attention.
[...]
The Spanish conquistadors initiated a large scale planting of this indispensable crop. Realising the great potential of a coconut industry, Spanish governor-general Hurtado de Corcuera ordered the greening of the countryside in 1642'(Medina 1975: 496). Before that, in 1613, Pedro de San Buenaventura (1994) had published his Tagalog Vocabulario, which showed that Filipinos had a great inventory of the useful palm trees around them. While coconut, nipa and areca nut palms were cultivated for their economic values, most of the palms were undomesticated (palma sil vestre) or growing wild in the mountains {palma del monte). Some of these wild palms were buri, tical (Livistona saribus), anibong (Onco sperma horridum), pugahan (Caryota cumingii), and banga (Orania pal indan).
Anahaw, sapac (?), anibong, tical, and banga had wide leaves that were used as walling and roofing materials. Mats were generally made from buri palm. However, pandanus-leaf mats were also made. Buri had seeds used as enormous rosary beads. Cauong (Arenga pinnata), pugahan, and nipa palms provided better sap for palm wine than the small quantity derived from the pasang (?). The anahaw (or luyong) palm was a favorite source of wood for making bows for arrows, while the pugahan and cauong (called by San Buenaventura tamping) provided the finest and toughest cabo negro cords.
However, not all palms were useful. Palipog (Epipremnum sp.) was just too small and weak for any practical use and tampinbanal (Rha phidophora merrillii) simply useless and monstrous.
Bongbong referred to the palm frond. Because the palm has a complex leaf composed of a long rachis with many pinnae or leaflets attached to it, San Buevanentura's definition was not clear as to whether the word referred to just a leaflet or to the whole palm frond itself. However, a contextual reading of the entry hints that San Buenaventura is referring to the whole frond. Palapa or balaba was the name given to the petioles of the leaves of the palm. Ibus or ibos were the young and fresh leaves that grow out of the heart of the palm.
On the other hand, laquilang were those that were neither very young nor mature leaves. Cayacas, on the other hand, were the dead leaves of dried palms and landag the withered leaves, salab the palm leaves and stems dried over fire or heat, and layac those that had fallen to the ground or into the waters. Tica were those leaves that were thin and unhealthy, while sagonson were those that were profuse, but of equal sizes and orderly in their arrangement.
[...]
William Henry Scott (1994: 200) also noted the relation of the palm leaves to the sixteenth century technology of rice farming. Once the rice plants started to bear their grains, salidangdang or palm-leaf pendants were placed in the fields and used as panakot or pamugao (scarecrows), kept moving by the wind. They were woven from palm leaves in a variety of different shapes called pamanay, balian, palawit, bangkiaw, and pakan log. These words are now almost meaningless as the objects they named have been replaced by plastic materials and other refuse which have less aesthetic value as compared to these forgotten woven palm forms.
Noceda and Sanl?car (1860) noted the word samat for the woven palm leaves that served as plates or food containers. Magsamat was to weave palm leaves into food plates while the sinamat were the plates themselves.
There were also different kinds of woven petate or mats. Caroro can were probably the finest mats used by the principales elite and their special guests. While banig has always been the general term for the woven palm mat, sinabatan was an elaborately colored mat with intricate designs, whether large or small. Such a mat was used, among other uses, to sleep on. The parati was an ordinary small mat for everyday use. It was woven from the coarser leaves of the pangdan anuang (a Pandanus sp.). On the other hand, the bangcouang was a larger and finer version of the parati. Balia was the coarse and common matting and bailing material used for holding rice to be sold. Samil were reinforced with insertions of rattan and used as boat awnings or as covering materials for jars.

EMOTIONS / FEELINGS:
001: lonely - a sensation that manages to creep into almost every aspect of everything he does. it’s quiet, subdued, but there’s a forlorn look to his eyes that always seems to come on in full force whenever he thinks he’s alone. 002: austere - the way he carries himself, the way he keeps his chin held high in the air and his shoulders arched back, the way he’s trained himself so that every movement he makes looks deliberate and choreographed. the way the severity in his personality and his body language turns heads and silences a room whenever he walks in. 003: pride - in his blood, in his heritage, in his strength of character and all the things he’s managed to accomplish throughout the years despite the unfortunate circumstances surrounding most of his life. 004: passion - for the people, for justice, for his ideal utopia where the citizens of Jugdral needn’t fear repression or inequality. 005: wrath - for those who get in the way.
GREETINGS:
001: a subdued nod of the head to acknowledge another’s presence. 002: a hand pressed against the chest and a subtle inclination of the body in something too shallow to really be called a bow. 003: a small smile, but it’s hollow and insincere nine out of ten times. 004: a simple ‘well met’.
COLORS:
001: red 002: black 003: gold
SCENTS:
001: smoke, ash, the sort of scent that permeates into the clothes and skin and hair of a person that spends way too much time around open fires. 002: old books, musky and worn with time and the scent kept thick by being kept in closed quarters. 003: an underlying trace of blood, tinny and metallic. 004: ceric woodlands, the smell of leaves and trees mixing with traces of dust.
CLOTHING:
001: a long black cloak, the inner lining made of soft red velvet and the bottom edges embellished with high-quality gold molten and sculpted into flames. it’s exceedingly ornate for day-to-day wear. 002: golden epaulettes set on the shoulders of a black military general’s uniform, bound at the chest by a large ovular gem of fire opal acting as a sort of clasp. it’s large on him without being ill-fitting; a thick black belt embellished with more golden flames holds the fabric snug to his waist and hints at a figure that isn’t nearly as robust or brawny as the commanding air about him otherwise suggests. 003: black boots pulled up to just below the knees, the black trousers of his uniform tucked into them. the boot cuffs are folded over, revealing more gold lining the sides of it. another pair of fire opal gems binds them shut at the top. 004: a thick tome with gold leaf work sculpted in relief against its red leather cover hangs from his right hip, ready to be drawn at any moment. there’s a certain sense of power emanating from it, though anyone who thinks to take it will be sorely disappointed upon opening it to reveal pages covered in an ancient language indecipherable to anyone without Fala’s blood running thick in their veins. 005: on occasion, a pair of white silk gloves. they’re thin, made for comfort and ease of use when thumbing through a tome more than to actually protect any skin.
OBJECTS:
001: valflame, a spellbook to command heaven’s fire. 002: recover ring, a ring worn on his right hand. it grants him protection from even severe wounds, healing any injuries in the blink of an eye. 003: deirdre’s circlet, in the years between her death and passing it on to julia. 004: silver blade, a sword kept on his left hip on occasion. despite being well trained in basically every type of weapon he never actually uses it when he can use magic. it’s mostly there in the event of him somehow finding himself without magic for whatever reason. 005: a closet full of capes. he’s been shown with so many different capes. a cape for every occasion.
VICES / BAD HABITS:
001: selfishness, a willingness to sacrifice the well being of others and to lie and scheme in order to get what he wants. 002: enough pride and arrogance to spell out disaster. he thinks he’s the best and brightest, that he’s a chessmaster that can see every path set in front of him and can easily dance his way out of any bad situations. he didn’t even consider the possibility of a much more skilled puppeteer working their magic on him from the shadows. 003: hard headedness. an unwillingness to deviate from a set path or plan once it’s been set into motion, even when it’s obvious that he’s marching to his own demise. 004: a sense of loneliness and abandonment that drives him into unhealthy possessiveness and an unwillingness to let go of people, ever. 005: allowing fear and anxiety to cloud his judgement and fuel his actions in general.
BODY LANGUAGE:
001: stiff posture, an already tall body held high. half-lidded eyes and pursed lips; scowls and disparaging looks. 002: an expression that’s vaguely condescending and cold. the furrow in his brow is there more often than it isn’t. 003: a harshness in his face, his body language and the way he holds himself that stands in contrast with his leaner mage’s build and his classically soft features. cupid’s bow lips marred with faded teeth marks; he has a habit of biting himself to the point of drawing blood when frustrated or thinking heavily, and he’s always frustrated or thinking. 004: crossed arms, loose, layered clothing and long wavy hair that all billows in the wind. through some miracle he’s managed to never catch himself on fire with it all. 005: finger tapping, toe tapping, scoffs and clicking tongues; he always looks like he’s disappointed and impatient with whoever it is he’s dealing with, like he has twelve other things he has to be getting to.
AESTHETICS:
001: fire lapping at the edges of an old slip of parchment, yellowed with time. there’s a bit of black smoke coming off of it. the crackling is soft but audible. 002: velvet-lined libraries with walls stacked full of books. mahogany tables stretched long and thin, uninhabited despite a single glass of red wine set out near the head of it for someone to drink while reading. an extravagant room bursting with knowledge ready to be reaped yet empty. 003: wooden pyres ready to house those to be put to the flame in a witch hunt, but empty and unlit. despite nothing going on there’s something quietly upsetting about the scene. 004: a stone room styled in gothic architecture, vaulted ceilings, pointed-arch windows separated with corinthian columns and rich red curtains hanging in between. they move with the wind; the interior is lit with a single sconce, its light dim but permissible. the wind brings with it a stirring in all the loose objects within the clearly rich room, but it’s empty. there are no people there.
SONGS:
001: VIVA LA VIDA                     Revolutionaries wait                     For my head on a silver plate                     Just a puppet on a lonely string                     Oh, who would ever want to be king? 002: MOVE TO THE OCEAN                     First 10 years didn't feel so hard                     7 after that seemed to push me too far                     Jump to 19 i'm livin outta my car                     Wrote my first song and took back my heart 003: DEAD GIRL WALKING                     I wish your mom had been a little stronger                     I wish she stayed around a little longer                     I wish your dad were good!                     I wish grown-ups understood! 004: CONTROL                     I paced around for hours on empty                     I jumped at the slightest of sounds                     And I couldn't stand the person inside me                     I turned all the mirrors around 005: BURN                     Oooohhhh, let's burn it down!                     Let's burn this down, let's burn it down!                     Oooohhhh, let's burn it down!                     Just burn it down, now burn it down!

How you can Plan A Standard Wedding celebration.
Als junges Mädel hatte ich ein traumhaftes weißes Spitzenkleid, dass sich beim Tanzen wunderschön mitdrehte und bei jedem Schritt, meine Beine schwingte. That bespattered him with mud in unclean climate; it cost him a planet of difficulty; he can have strolled with definitely greater convenience; yet that was actually one main reason for his holding on to this thus tenaciously. This unclean talk whether it is at your moms and dad's property or any other elder relative's house can be quite unclean, dirty and also attractive. However all that apart, after supper speeches at a wedding event may swing either in a very professional method, or they can be informal, using this depending greatly on whether or not the wedding celebration on its own is official or not. You have accomplished the called for research study, you have actually prepped and practised your item and right now, as you deliver your work of art to an enjoyed reader of after supper customers, I want you to imagine yourself communicating informally, to a small group of close friends and also loved ones. Wow your spouse through serving one of the most delectable supper you could make. This may be one of the most hard factors of dinner event manners for folks to understand. As I claimed, the dinner performed absence one thing as far as flavor and high quality go as well as, as a result of this, I'm uncertain I would spend complete rate for this product. Contrast cycle designed food things with straight glass dinner plates and also give some believed to the different colors taste buds too. This appeal is actually ideal for a tea ceremony and this will definitely still appear embellished even when that isn't really opportunity for supper. Equally in your home in the office, at the table or on the fairway, Invicta's Pro Diver Stainless-steel Wristlet View makes every minute a special occasion. Judy Chicago's The Supper Celebration at the Brooklyn Gallery on YouTube Video recording excursion of the job as well as component of the Elizabeth A. I am actually not visiting rest listed here and also make assumptions about what happens in individuals's lives, however there are several factors that can contribute to why possessing a charming and individual Mom's Time supper along with your other half perfect-dietblog.info would certainly be the best concept. At that point this is actually time for the ranges to introduce that dinner prepares and to welcome everyone to the dining table. A typical German Christmas dinner commonly features meals including stuffed Xmas Goose, White potato Dumplings, Reddish Broccoli, as well as Baked Apples for pudding. If I have actually enticed you in tossing a fish dinner party - southerly design, ensure to deliver me an invitation! Think of splitting a container from wine at dinner and certainly not needing to think about that will definitely be the assigned chauffeur. Thus, go on clean any sort of grimy foods, put any in the dish washer, and put away the clean recipes. These are easy dinner celebration recipes that almost anybody could bring in to great tasting brilliance! I possess a handful of pieces of white colored and also blue china that have resided in the family for several years. Around the nation, the lack from well-maintained water near major cities has actually required the increasing amount of urgan farmers to utilize waste water or waterway water polluted by chemical spills on their plants, officials mentioned.

Sakura Afternoon Tea at the Writers Bar in Raffles Makati
It’s Cherry Blossom season at Raffles Makati as the Writers Bar continues its themed afternoon tea series with the Sakura Afternoon Tea. This delightful afternoon affair celebrates the annual Japanese springtime occasion combined with the exquisite British tradition. The Hungry Kat was invited for the media launch of this colorful event together with other VIP and Japanese guests including Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Koji Haneda.
Tea aficionados may indulge in the delicately created Sakura Afternoon Tea set paired with select fine teas at the Writers Bar from 2:30pm to 5:30pm daily, starting March 2 until May 31, 2020 for only P1,500 for two persons. The Writers Bar is one of the most classic and elegant places to spend a relaxing afternoon in the city. Raffles has been serving afternoon tea for more than 100 years so each visit is always charming and memorable.
In partnership with Swissôtel Nankai Osaka, the lovely afternoon tea menu is designed by Pastry Sous Chef Yuki Nakamura and Executive Sous Chef Hideki Matsuda. Both were on hand during the launch and this Sakura tree by the entrance welcomed all the guests to the Writers Bar.
Before we bagan our adventure, early birds were given a glass of Raffles’ homemade Japanese Iced Red Tea infused with elderflower. This is a refreshing way to start our journey to the Land of the Rising Sun.
Afternoon tea is an elegant pre-evening tête-à-tête popularized in Europe with its own history and traditional ceremonies. The Sakura Afternoon Tea gives it a more colorful and livelier presentation. We may not be able to travel to Japan this summer, but we can experience the cherry blossoms right here at Raffles Makati.
Guests will have their own choice of tea from Raffles Makati’s finest selection of flavors courtesy of TWG Tea. The Eternal Summer Tea is usually my choice, a fragrant South African red tea embellished with notes of sweet summer rose blossoms. They also have the Silver Moon Tea, a green tea accented with a grand berry and vanilla bouquet.
Each afternoon tea set come with a set of baked Sakura Scones and Plain Scones accompanied by traditional clotted cream, strawberry preserves, and lemon curd. I prefer topping my scones with cream only because I don’t want them to be too sweet.
The sumptuous three-tier medley features savoury delights on the bottom plate such as (clockwise starting from right) Sakura smoked salmon with Daikon pickles, Okonomiyaki sticks, Japanese rice crackers, Negi Miso chicken burger, and cold soba noodles served inside shot glasses.
In the middle of the set you can find sweet pastries such as Sakura and cream cheese mousse, Matcha roll, and Dorayaki, a mini Japanese pancake with red bean filling.
We get even more sweet surprises on top like the Sakura and Tea Pound Cake, Sakura Panna Cotta topped with Sakura gelee and pounded almond biscuit, plus the Sakura Coconut Macaron wrapped with a real Sakura leaf. These leaves were hand carried straight from Japan so you know how authentic they want the Sakura Afternoon Tea to be.
To make the experience even more rewarding, guests can upgrade their Sakura Afternoon Tea with a glass of Moët & Chandon Rosé Imperial Champagne for P1000 per glass. This truly made our afternoon more bubbly and memorable.
The Sakura Afternoon Tea is available at the Writers Bar all throughout the summer so you can still experience a little bit of Japan even without having to travel there. See you soon at Raffles Makati Hotel!

36 Hours in Kochi, India
Kerala, as they say, is “God’s Own Country,” a nod to its lush natural beauty, beguiling backwaters and wealth of spices that have been the Holy Grail for generations of seafarers. But the catchy tourism slogan could also be a tribute to the various religious traditions that have thrived there — especially in the port city of Kochi — for thousands of years. Kerala’s unique geography — hemmed in from the rest of India by the mountains to the east, but open to the world by the Arabian Sea to the west — meant the state in southwest India was a cosmopolitan melting pot for far-flung cultures. Hindus, Christians, Jews and Muslims lived side by side and traded with the Arabs and Chinese long before the Portuguese fumbled their way over (it was Kerala that Columbus was after in 1492 when he found himself in the Bahamas instead) and established the first European settlement in India at Cochin in 1500, kicking off successive waves of colonization by the Portuguese, Dutch and British.
Today, Kochi, as Cochin has been renamed, is a popular cruise ship stop and layover for travelers en route to houseboats that cruise through the idyllic backwaters of nearby Alappuzha. But its complex history merits a longer stay. Spend a weekend exploring historic Fort Kochi, whose narrow lanes are lined with buildings that are a legacy of thousands of years of cultural intermingling. And if you’re in the area between December 2020 and March 2021, you won’t want to miss the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, one of the world’s most exciting contemporary art events.
(Like much of India, Kochi has seen protests in recent days against a new citizenship law that many view as discriminatory. While the protests and the police response have involved violence in some parts of the country, Kochi’s protests have not affected areas frequented by tourists.)
Friday
1) 2 p.m. Take a stroll
Fort Kochi is a bit of a misnomer — the original Portuguese fort no longer stands; the name now refers to Kochi’s historic section. A walk through the quarter helps uncover the layers of influences that have left their mark here. Start near the Chinese fishing nets strung across bamboo and teak poles: They have been there in some form since the 1400s. While they now mostly exist for tourist photo-ops, you can see how fishermen hauled their catch here for centuries. Then cross Vasco da Gama Square toward St. Francis Church, one of the oldest European churches in India. Erected as a Catholic church by the Portuguese in 1503, it was rebuilt as a Protestant church by the Dutch, before being consecrated as an Anglican Church by the English. This is where Vasco da Gama was buried, before his remains were sent back to Lisbon.
Pause for a chai at the charmingly cluttered Teapot Café, before carrying on to the whitewashed Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica. Then amble along streets lined with bright blue and yellow buildings, dressed with terra cotta roofs and stained-glass windows and fringed with bougainvillea, en route to the Indo-Portuguese Museum, which houses relics and remnants from Kochi churches: Bibles, statues of Mary, and even a 16th-century teak altar. Admission 40 rupees, or about 55 cents.
2) 5 p.m. Drama and dance
Kerala is synonymous with kathakali, a classical dance form known for its dramatic stories of gods and demons, and elaborate masks, headdresses and makeup. For those unfamiliar with the art, the Kerala Kathakali Centre offers a primer: The show begins with a demo at 5 p.m., during which performers explain how the makeup is applied, how the intricate movements are performed, and what the characters and the story lines are, followed by a captivating performance at 6 p.m. Tickets are 350 rupees.
3) 8 p.m. Fresh fish
Kerala’s setting on the Malabar Coast means seafood is a staple. You’ll dine on some of the best in Fort Kochi at the Fort House, a 16-room hotel with a restaurant at the water’s edge. Sop up the fish with green mango curry (420 rupees) or the ginger-garlic prawns (450 rupees) with appams (fermented-rice pancakes) or a parotta, a flaky flatbread. Dinner for two is around 1,500 rupees.
Saturday
4) 9:30 a.m. Artsy breakfast
Historic Kochi was once divided into two sections: Fort Kochi, where the Christians lived, and Mattancherry, which was primarily home to Jews, Hindus and Muslims. Get going bright and early to explore Mattancherry, once a vibrant center of the spice trade. Start with breakfast at Mocha Art Café, a 300-year-old spice warehouse. Try the appam with egg stew (230 rupees), banana, pineapple and nutella pancakes (200 to 250 rupees) or a keema cheese omelet (270 rupees), washed down with a mocha (190 rupees), of course. When you’re done, take a few minutes to check out the exhibits by local artists adorning the brick walls.
5) 10:30 a.m. Jewish history
Mocha Art Café is just steps away from the 16th-century Paradesi Synagogue, the oldest active synagogue in the Commonwealth, with global influences in the form of blue hand-painted tiles from China, chandeliers from Belgium and an Oriental rug that was a gift from the Ethiopian emperor Haile Selassie I. There are only a handful of practicing Jews remaining in Kochi, and tourists are needed for a full congregation. From there, head to Mattancherry Palace — also known as the Dutch Palace, though it was a gift from the Portuguese to the King of Cochin in 1555. It’s an intriguing fusion of European and Indian styles, and houses elaborate, 16th-century, temple-style murals of scenes from the Hindu Ramayana epic. Then explore the markets of Jew Town, lined with everything from perfume bottles to embroidered umbrellas to mounds of paint in brilliant shades of fuchsia and cobalt. Nearby are the antiques emporium Ethnic Passage, the contemporary design shop Via Kerala and the fashion designer Joe Ikareth’s boutique.
6) 2 p.m. Leisurely lunch
Back in Fort Kochi, the Indian Oven restaurant at the Cochin Club is a relaxing setting for a languid lunch. There’s a quiet garden, windows open to the water, whimsical murals on the wall, and colorful cushions scattered across cane chairs. Pull one up and tuck into Malabar Coast seafood dishes, like a Kerala-style squid roast and karimeen pollichathu (pearl spot fish prepared in a banana leaf). Lunch for two is around 1,000 rupees.
7) 3:30 p.m. Art afternoon
Though the Kochi-Muziris Biennale brings the art world’s focus on Kochi every other year for three months at a stretch, there are a clutch of galleries worth visiting no matter what time of year you’re in town. Stroll through the lanes of Fort Kochi with stops at David Hall Art Gallery, housed in an old Dutch house where you’ll find everything from exhibitions by global artists to book readings to Sufi devotional music, and Kashi Art Cafe, a gallery-cafe that supports emerging artists.
8) 7 p.m. Culinary innovations
You’ll find a modern fine-dining haven amid the history at East Indies, a restaurant overlooking a pool at the Dutch colonial-inspired Eighth Bastion Hotel. In a contemporary dining room, choose among interesting combinations and artful plating: tiger prawns with ginger, chili, cumin and coconut (900 rupees); coriander-laced chicken malli peralan (700 rupees); shrimp with ginger and garlic on a papadum crisp (550 rupees); and creme brulee French toast (400 rupees).
Sunday
9) 9:30 a.m. Open-air breakfast
Two historic warehouses by the sea were joined to make the delightful Pepper House, an open-air cafe, gallery and design shop that’s one of the main venues come Biennale time. The crowd is a mix of creative types and tourists, all converging at the handful of tables scattered around a grassy courtyard. It’s a great spot for breakfast: Fuel up for the day with the French toast with jaggery (unrefined cane sugar) and fresh fruit (250 rupees).
10) 11 a.m. Hop on board
Kochi has been nicknamed the Queen of the Arabian Sea, and the water is an intrinsic element of the city. You can book a tourist boat for a one-hour spin around the harbor, but for a more local experience, take the public ferry (tickets are just 4 rupees). Board at the jetty off Calvathy Road alongside commuters and local families, and whiz past some of the islands that make up the city of Kochi — Vypin, Willingdon, Vallarpadam and Bolgatty — before landing 20 minutes later at the bustling mainland part of the city known as Ernakulam. There, take a quick stroll through the neatly manicured, sea-facing Subhash Bose Park before heading back.
Lodging
Opened in 2016, the Ginger House Museum Hotel is a plush oasis in the heart of Mattancherry, situated above a sprawling antiques shop and restaurant. Each of the nine rooms is done up in rich, vintage embellishments, like 24-karat-gold Art Deco tiles and a ceiling bedecked in teakwood-framed mirrors. Doubles from 25,000 rupees.
The cheery yellow Forte Kochi has 27 rooms in a restored 18th-century heritage house, just steps from the Chinese fishing nets and many of Fort Kochi’s main attractions. Doubles from 14,000 rupees.
Many of Fort Kochi’s colonial-era houses have been converted to hotels and guesthouses, and there are plenty of charming places to stay within striking distance of all of the historic quarter’s key attractions. Private rooms on Airbnb range anywhere from $15 to $100 per night.

The Vocabulary of Vessels
Jason Bige Burnett is fascinated with the vocabulary of vessels and how the narratives of our lives illustrate living spaces and reflect daily routines: “Coffee stained cups in the cupboards, hanging plates embellishing the walls, and teapots that remain untouched in glass cabinets, are all artifacts of our own existence. Stains, cracks, and pristine, luster-adorned objects are stories I believe to be worth telling.” As a result, he achieves to create thoughtfully unrefined vessels that celebrate vulnerability and beauty.
Burnett's investigations start with recollections from growing up in a “broken” family. During that time sanctuary was found in cartoons such as the Nickelodeon channel’s Ren and Stimpy, Rugrats and Ahhh! Real Monsters. Revisiting them as an adult enabled him to appreciate how they used bright colors and patterned wallpaper to excite the domestic interiors of their characters’ homes. Since then he has introduced similar elements in his pottery to promote “youthful discovery”.
The adult whimsy of Ren and Stimpy is particularly reflected in the double entendre of “Two Cocks Kissing” bowls, and “Kissed By Queens” cocktail cups. The bright colors and playful design are a cue to have fun with the work, the artist’s intentions being to create pottery and beautiful objects that reflect life’s escapades and serve as a bridge between the real and surreal.
Burnett has an upcoming show and six-week residency at Belger Arts Center in Kansas City Missouri. He just launched a new website and online store called Mr. Benny's Pot Shop.
Immediately following that is the first Southern Crossings Pottery Festival (SXPF), which he is coordinating with Amy Chase and Steven Cheek. SXPF will take place March 2 & 3, 2018 at Copper & Kings in the Butchertown neighborhood of Louisvile. The event will showcase potters in the Ohio River Region, including Lexington, Cincinnati, and more. The festival will also include the Empty Bowls Benefit Dinner @PLAY Louisville on March 3, 2018.
