The contrast between Ela’s and Jere’s careers and their verses are so good.

Like Ela has been making a career for over two decades and is not stopping. He wants another 25 years. He knows what he’s doing, and he’s confident with it. Another 25 years is not a question. He knows what it takes and he knows he’s got it.

And how much confidence is in his verse. It’s full of this couldn’t care less attitude at the start, showing that he is the big shot now, before moving on to the hype up attitude he is known for. Not tearing others down but building them up, like other people have done for him when he was still making his way up. Hard work, taking those opportunities, grabbing them with both hands.

And here’s Jere. He has been trying for ages and then he has had the wildest blowup of possibly any Finnish artists ever. He has been dragged through the gutter these past 7 months. He’s already tired of this shit, but he knows that the only way to get where he wants to be is to see this through. So he’s going to go for another round, however much he resents it because he’s not going to quit.

His verse starts with silly voices, before moving on to growling out lyrics, the guitars coming in to support it. It’s both mocking and genuine, highlighting how he doesn’t fit into this industry the traditional way, but he can still do this and do it well.

He and Ela are two very different artists, but they’re in the same place doing the same thing.

And most of his verse is about wanting to stay at home but going anyway, doing the work, taking the opportunities. And finishing off with saying that there are many sides to him but no one does it like him. That he can be the guy who wants to stay at home while he is out there rocking the world.

He can be the rapper doing songs with Ela but he’s going to do it with silly voiced and growling and self deprecating jokes. Because they are both huge in the industry but they are not interchangeable.

It’s interesting that a song where Käärijä openly criticizes the constant pressure from the media, to the point of namedropping a famous tabloid to elevate his point, is with Elastinen.

Ela has taken a break from the public life in the past to focus on his private life, and continues to keep significant parts of it, such as his family life, private. Ela’s verse focuses largely on being now on top, past the point of needing to prove himself while still wanting more. At the same time he points out that this kind of lifestyle is extreme.

On the other hand Jere’s opens up about the constant pressure that comes with it, of never getting a break due to the continuous search for more, and wondering where to draw that line.

They are at two very different point of their respective journeys, but both reach the same conclusions. That no one does it like them and that they want to keep doing what they do.
