HC - vs Ghetsis

Remember when I wrote that headcanon post that was a play-by-play of Hilbert’s battle with Drayden? And how it was one of only two battles that I actually took notes on in the run?

Well, the other battle I took notes on was the one with Ghetsis. This was so I could have that battle thread with Knight months ago, but I thought it’d be fun to put it all into this post. So let’s get to that, shall we?

Round 1 - Garfield vs Cofagrigus

Fun fact; the reason I put Garfield in the final team in the first place was specifically to counter N’s Zekrom. Because, you know, Ground-type. I hadn’t taken the fact that Cofagrigus could use Toxic into consideration until the battle with Shauntal, but the fact that Garfield was also immune to poison moves was definitely a bonus.

This round was honestly kinda short. Garfield was able to set up a Sandstorm as Cofagrigus used Shadow Ball. Cofagrigus used Protect twice; the first time was as Garfield used Swords Dance, and the second Protect failed as Garfield used Earthquake. Maybe it was overkill (because Garfield’s Ability was Sand Force), but I wanted the Cofagrigus gone ASAP.

Round 2 - Michelle vs Hydreigon

The thing about Ghetsis’ Hydreigon that I realized as I was grinding - Ghetsis’ Hydreigon had an answer for nearly everyone in my team. Surf would’ve taken down Belle, Focus Blast would have destroyed Roger and Garfield, and Fire Blast would have completely decimated Dodger (and Garfield as well. Looking at it now, I can see why Hydreigon was sent out immediately after Garfield beat Cofagrigus). And while I was wrong in assuming it had a move like Dark Pulse, its Dark typing wasn’t doing Merlot any favors.

The only Pokemon in the team that Hydreigon wasn’t super-effective against was Michelle, so she was the only one I could send out. Plus, she had Revenge, which was a super-effective move on Hydreigon, and I figured her Expert Belt would help give her an edge.

Dragon Pulse took out more than half HP on Michelle, and Revenge does the same to Hydreigon. Both sides healed the next turn, and it’s the same song and dance.

At this point, I knew Michelle was probably going to die. Dragon Pulse took out too much health for me to heal it back up again, and while I could keep healing and hope to stall out Dragon Pulse’s PP, a critical hit would OHKO me anyway so that would be a waste. So, I clicked Aqua Jet. At the very least, that would guarantee that she would deal a little more damage before she went down.

I was prepared for Hilbert to lose his starter, but Michelle surprised me by landing a critical hit on the Aqua Jet, and that did enough damage to take Hydreigon down.

You can’t convince me that crit didn’t matter, because Hydreigon was completely immune to whatever Merlot had to offer, and had a move that could have OHKO’d everyone else in my team.

Round 3 - Roger vs Bouffalant

After taking about five minutes to recover from the emotional rollercoaster of Michelle being an absolute MVP, I sent Roger out to face Bouffalant. Who doesn’t love a battle between two Normal-types, right?

Between Roger’s Intimidate lowering Bouffalant’s attack and the fact that Roger’s nature gives him a DEF buff, Bouffalant didn’t do too much damage to him. Add the fact that Roger was holding a Rocky Helmet, and...well, I’ll let you do the math.

Roger used Ice Fang to freeze Bouffalant. Bouffalant thawed out immediately after to deliver a Head Charge, as Roger used Work Up. Roger then used Crunch as Bouffalant delivered a second Head Charge, and then Bouffalant went down to Roger’s Last Resort.

Round 4 - Merlot vs Seismitoad

Honestly, I’m not sure why I sent Merlot out to face Seismitoad. I think maybe I wanted to make it so that each one of Hilbert’s Pokemon would face each one of Ghetsis’ Pokemon? Michelle and Roger were at half health at this point, and Seismitoad was super-effective against Garfield and Belle. I thought it was also super-effective against Dodger(because Ground-type) but I had forgotten at that point that Dodger’s bug-typing made Ground-attacks neutral.

My point is, it was Merlot. Merlot’s attacks wouldn’t be super-effective against Seismitoad, but the same applied in reverse. Seismitoad used Earthquake a total of two times, and they did less than half.

Merlot used Calm Mind to set up after the first Earthquake, and Seismitoad then used Rain Dance as Merlot used Psychic. Another exchange of Earthquake and Psychic, and Seismitoad was down.

Round 5 - Garfield vs Bisharp

If the plan was to get each of Hilbert’s Pokemon a chance to shine against Ghetsis, it was dashed when I remembered that this Bisharp had Stone Edge. I remember that being the cause of a casualty in my previous Black Nuzlocke, so I wasn’t gonna let Dodger fall.

I let Garfield out instead, and oh my god was this the right decision. An Earthquake was enough to OHKO Bisharp without even needing to set up.

And, tbh...since there’s an absence of a Bisharp in Ghetsis’ BW2 team, I’m inclined to have it that Bisharp did not survive that battle.

Round 6 - Belle vs Eelektross

I sent out Belle, because Eelektross had Levitate for its ability which rendered Garfield’s Earthquake completely useless. And I had a feeling that it had some kind of Fire-type move waiting in the wings, so I was hesitant to send Dodger out.

I had forgotten that said Electric-type had Crunch, but I thought ahead and started with Will-O-Wisp. I think the attack drop from the burn definitely helped, because it did less than half even with the defense drop from the first Crunch. I had to heal Belle up after the second Crunch brought her to yellow, but two Flame Bursts was enough to bring Eelektross down.

TLDR: Hilbert beat Ghetsis without losing a single one of his party.

pichu/pikachu bc my pals have associated me with em, buizel and shinx lines bc theyve always been my sinnoh mvps, eelektross and galvantula bc i love their designs sm... flygon is my all time fave just cause!! i love the design and typing...i love shieldon bc it was my fav partner in pkmn ranger shadows of almia! and i rly love dodrio it was such a surprise powerful pkmn in my xy plathrough i love this cerberus bird

hopefully more fair, kinder, cleaner and not destroyed by global warmning lol

i dont feel like i gotta pretend to be something im not around the two of them! i can always be honest and not feel embarassed and thats sth i rly appreciate. also theyre both just really kind and cool and good

fluent in polish, pretty much fluent in english, basic german and basic japanese. im taking japanese in uni so hopefully i will continue to learn that but id also love to know swedish and maybe italian!

oh man idk. i dont think communism is all that great but im polish so that might be like Wildly affecting my view of it lol. communist regimes are Still a thing too so, its just hard for me to subscribe to that fully. even if the ideology itself is great and would be great were it to work in practice

drawing! any sort of art rly! not much else atm.. hope i can pick up sth computer sciency since thats my field in uni currently.. or embroidery! or trying to make tunes or games or smth!!!

😔 what do you always do when you feel sad? does it help?

i go through some funney mindless lps i can remember at the time and just watch those, maybe do sth related to current Big Interest, draw until i feel better. when its rly bad i force myself to take a full body shower and brush my teeth, even if rly rly do not have the spoons for it. it doesnt always help but keeps me from breaking down usually
