Roy Mustang is struggling with his new life as a retired public servant. After decades of work to the military and people of Amestris, as both State Alchemist and Fuhrer, he no longer knows what to do with himself as a regular citizen.

Riza Hawkeye, concerned for her lifelong partner, reiterates what she’s always told him, that she’ll follow him into hell if he asked, meaning that it didn’t matter what kind of life they had, as long as they were together she’d be happy. Even if their lives had always been mundane. She expresses that, in a different life, she’d be happy just doing laundry and taxes, as long as it was a life shared with him.

Based on the scene in Everything Everywhere All At Once, Roy asks Riza to tell him what kind of life he and Riza could have had in another universe where there was no military, no alchemy, and no war. What are the joys of a simple life?

Here is a new fic I wrote. @ilyanairvine wanted an Everything Everywhere All at Once Royai AU so here is the result. I hope you enjoy it! I had a lot of fun writing it and the movie is one of my favorites so creating an AU for it was super cool. I need someone to write the Royai version of “In another life, I would have liked to do laundry and taxes with you” conversation from Everything Everywhere All At Once!!!!!!!!! Because their story is a fucking tragedy and in a kinder life they could have lived a simple life together and it hits me so hard :((((( I always imagine Roy seeing Hughes becoming a dad and then Roy just struggling because he knows they’ll never have that
