It’s very hard to choose a fav tulip bed combination. They’re were so many lovely combinations. But I’m thinking this was my fav this year. Purple, & yellow R complimentary colors & the pops of red makes this a pretty great color mix. I wish I had spent more time photographing this color bed to get some macros.
Each year there is a theme so diff colors are selected to plant in the fall for the spring festival. Ottawa decided to honour the Royal gift by holding a festival. The NCC (National Capital Commission take care of all public parks, gardens, government land & heritage properties of our National capital region. They are official gardener who plants 100 tulip varieties, in 120 gardens in 30 locations in our national capital region, (Ottawa On & Gatineau Québec. These photos were all shot in 1 park of which has 30,000 tulips. Did U know there are 3,000 varieties of tulips & tulip cultivators produce more varieties.
The Dutch Royal family has been sending Canada a gift of 10,000 tulips every year for the last 78 years. There are 4 reasons for this gesture.
1 The Dutch Royal Family & the people of the Netherlands are grateful for Canada sheltering the Royals during WWII.
2 They commemorated the birth of Princess Marguerite here at that time. Our Prime Minister deemed the maturity rooms extraterrestrial so she could be born of Netherlands.
3 The Netherlands are thankful & remember the Canadian military who fought & lost their lives in helping their liberation of the Netherlands during WWII.
4 Commemorate the lasting friendship of our two countries.

HRH princess Marguerite’s birth is the only Royal personage 2 have ever been born in Canada. Our prime minister at the time declared the maternity ward of the Civic Hospital Dutch soil so she could B born in her own country. This is an annual 10 day festival in May. Hats off 2 the tulip festival team 4 their hard work & new surprises 2 the festival this year. Hats off 2 the @NCC_CCN 4 the amazing job they do planting & keeping our public green spaces so beautiful all over the National Capital region every year.
