I love witnessing the discourse around the dungeon meshi anime in real time so much. When the first episodes came out, people started shipping Laios with either Chilchuck or Senshi, which are pairings that would make sense outside of this series based on interactions alone. Then we are introduced to Shuro and Kabru, and of course people were quick to point out that damn, the homoeroticism there is way more intense. It starts to feel very intentional.

I cannot wait to witness the realisation that the character Laios has the most sexual tension with is actually THIS fucking thing:

i cant be bothered to format this/make a note properly right now peep at your own risk/curiosity

the way laios identifies marcille vs the shapeshifter, the thing is, i just wonder, right,

the other remaining illusions of chilchuck and senshi aren't the ones from his mind, they're marcille's view of chilchuck and chilchuck's view of marcille, right?

did he know? that the remaining marcille illusion was his?

the visually strange one, i believe laios has a sufficient eye for a person's features, even though he doesn't spare much attention to their equipment. i think he would know that one wasn't his illusion.

the one with the incomplete tome- falin has tried to teach him magic before, and I'm certain he paid close attention, even if it ultimately fell through. i think he would know that wasn't his illusion either.

so when marcille carelessly dumps out boiled water, does he think:

'ah, i guess she didn't learn from the undine after all',

and realise it's a mismatch from his expectation for the illusion?

'so it must be marcille,'

as one of those moments where you expect your bestie to have internalised something but they didn't, and you have to revise your expectations of them

because i think it doesn't make sense to say "only marcille would be so careless", as if you expected carelessness from her. wouldn't the shapeshifter pick up on that too? i think it makes more sense for it to be an expectation revised in the moment to something believable but unexpected.
