Inktober Day 5 - Free Space
Back to my tradition of getting distracted while sketching for a prompt and doing something completely different. SO! Here’s one of my many, many adventuring parties—the Fangmaidens! I have redesigned them many, many times over the years, but I never did a full piece for them. Great excuse to force myself to practice drawing groups.
Infodump Time >:)
Nin, Gnome Rogue, a menace to society. She was raised in a sleepy seaside town where she was often left to her own devices. This was poor planning on someone’s part.
Mi Cha, Obosh Fighter, the youngest in the group. She was a pageant kid in her hometown, where strength and beauty are tantamount to one another, but she hates the spotlight.
Ravana, Werebear Moon Elf Healer, the eldest in the group. After spending some hundred-odd years sequestered in the darkest thicket of the Deep Woods, she set out to see how the world has changed since she walked with her previous adventuring party. She straddles the line between the wise team mom, and demented team grandma, often lacking context or forgetting common social practices, but holding deep knowledge of history, medicine, and nature.
Neha, Halfling Wizard, here to keep Nin from going to jail. She grew up on the sea, wintering in Nin’s hometown. The two became friends and decided to travel together when they came of age. They have one of those ‘completely different but it just works’ friendships. Her familiar, Sheila, takes the form of a horseshoe crab, which she wears as a hat. She’s also a fairly effective shield (she doesn’t mind).

POV: You’re horribly failing a deception check while your party wreaks havoc in the background.
Smols and party bios below the cut.
From Left to Right:
Lucien is a sweet, naturally charming bard/warlock changeling, taking the form of several notable NPCs from the campaign:
- Soriel, my DM PC/disaster moon elf artificer who can miraculously never roll above a 10 and has a Wisdom of 7. Even speaking her name bestows the dice curse upon you.
- Agaric Nightcap, Soriel’s firbolg wizard father and the party’s psuedo-mentor/teleport taxi driver
- Silver, silver vixen dommy mommy pirate captain
- Lucilia, Adelaide’s mother and one of the primary antagonists of the campaign
- The Man, a grizzled old sry’e who raised Jamjar to live a life of crime
Jamjar, the constantly intoxicated Way of the Drunken Master monk who has had Too Much of this party’s nonsense. Also, consistently the most competent party member.
GAID, the NPC robotic navigator who the party rescued and repaired and are struggling to convince is a person. Also Jamjar’s personal taxi. He likes to feel tall.
Adelaide, the rat-obsessed necromancer wizard who constantly forgets she has magic and instead tries ineffectually to stab enemies, or put them to sleep. It rarely ends well.
Aniza, the horniest ex-pirate rogue to ever live, who constantly forgets that she has magic, lockpicks, or the ability to sneak attack. In spite of this, somehow, it usually ends well.
And last, and most chaotic, Geodevanni, or Vani, the infant dragon wyrmling they hatched early in the campaign, and have been raising amongst their chaos. Disguised with a magic ring that fails whenever she attacks or is attacked at the most inconvenient of times, she has a great love for eating metal, the bones of their enemies, and anything else that isn’t nailed down. She’s just a baby. 🥺

This is a redraw of a VERY old piece that Insta’s annoying “PLEASE make a reel” feature surfaced from the depths of my account. I did it all in a mad 12-hour dash on the world’s thickest watercolor paper that was, perhaps predictably, very hard to photograph from how absolutely CHONKY the texture is. Alas.

The background here started as a little test of the awesome Foliage and Grass brushset by Devin Elle Kurtz (which I 100% recommend!!!) and escalated into Sage (blue) Annatto (Orange) and Liluri (black) taking a stroll. Why is it that every time I draw landscapes without a plan I end up filling them with centaurs…
