Trying to draw this morning before I have to head off to work some dragon cat like hybrids but I think I’m. Little too sleepy from the heat here in Australia
Three years ago I started a webcomic called SUNMAKERS. It went strong and steady for about 5 episodes before the comic went into something akin of an existential crisis. Something about the story was off and I couldn’t figure out what it was. I rewrote it, rebuild the world, reconsidered every aspect of it but no matter what I did, I couldn’t fix it. This story, so near and dear to my heart, was broken. And so I couldn’t continue it or even start over. Weeks stretched into months and months stretched into years. And still I couldn’t find the answer.
Until about a week or two ago when I switched out the main character with a completely different one as a joke. Rather than the previous character, who I actually put a piece of my soul into, whose journey represents the philosophy which guides my own life, I just swapped him out with a walking…shitpost.
And miraculously…that worked?
Not taking this story as seriously anymore and just kind of having fun. That’s actually a much more sustainable approach.
I don’t know if I’ll be able to bring the story back yet. But I’ve felt more hopeful about it than I did in years.
Little Dragon Cat from my End-of-the-year group project, which lasted from around May - August 2020
I had slightly less of a hand in this model and design, but I still Sculpted, retopo'd, UV'd, rigged and textured this guy. Production pics under the cut!
