My WttM manga liveblog

I really like how the beginning focuses so much on how Yuuri seems to be the star of the GPF even though he “only” won silver. I’m guessing it’s something that happens sometimes in competitions when something surprising happens to a skater, even though they might not have gotten gold. I like this a lot because it sets the story up for Yuri being pissed about that, which is the whole point of the whole WttM thing. (also some people were disappointed that the manga and the extra content were more focused on Yuri than on Yuuri, well, here you have a glimpse of Yuuri’s family and the beginning talks a lot about Yuuri. Also Yuri won the GPF ffs, let him have his own little comic.)

So I was under the impression that Yuri would do his WttM thing without even talking to Yakov and Lilia about how he was unhappy with the program they prepared for him, but I’m glad it’s not like that. He’s still a somewhat responsible kid (I don’t know if that means he’ll tell them about WttM before the end of the manga, let’s see)

I love how Yuri’s like, “I finally have a friend and I’m pretty sure that means we’re never going to spend a second apart” <3 if that isn’t the purest idea of friendship then idk what

I’d honestly expected Yuri to be more on the “let’s not talk about things” side but instead he’s making it very clear that he wants to communicate even when things might be hard (like if Otabek was pissed he’d still want him to talk to him about it). I love this. Also he doesn’t hesitate to ask for help finding Otabek and I think that’s really cool and important for his character development.
