Ladros before the Bragollach with its steep slopes, pine forests, and clear pools
a sort of companion piece to this board
I’ve talked about this before but I headcanon that the cultivation of red madder for dyes was a very important accomplishment of the Bëorians and was used for a variety of crafts and textile dyeing.
Going to post more Bëorian world building soon of course but I wanted to make this in the meantime. I do headcanon that Ladros is more open

In the fire, Finrod watches all his affection and love for Turgon burn into ashes.
He sits, and Eliril chief healer works on the worst of his wounds. She pulls an arrowhead from his swollen flesh, but Finrod does not even let out even a grunt of pain.
He is too numb now for that.
Dorthonion is no more; he felt his brothers die. And as the orc dragged him by the hair—all that golden hair, fallen into the mud, hewn from his scalp— as a prize, he wonders.
He wonders where Turgon is.
He wonders why he did not come.
The only thing Barahir manages to save from Dorthonion is an old, worn, spotted seal plush toy that Aikanár took all the way from Aman. It is a miracle it even survived.
But Finrod wonders
He wonders, still, even as he takes his worn and battered surviving soldiers back on the road south.
He wonders, still, as he wears the robe of mourning and declares Nargothrond’s lights to be dimmed, for music to cease, and no feast be held for a year.
The mourning is a year, but Finrod knows he will mourn forever.
He watches the hearth fire, and all his love and affection for Turgon burns into ashes.

"There came a time of winter, when night was dark and without moon; and the wide plain of Ard-galen stretched dim beneath the cold stars, from the hill-forts of the Noldor to the feet of Thangorodrim. The watch-fires burned low, and the guards were few; on the plain few were waking in the camps of the horsemen of Hithlum. Then suddenly Morgoth sent forth great rivers of flame that ran down swifter than Balrogs from Thangorodrim, and poured over all the plain; and the Mountains of Iron belched forth fires of many poisonous hues, and the fume of them stank upon the air, and was deadly. Thus Ard-galen perished, and fire devoured its grasses; and it became a burned and desolate waste, full of a choking dust, barren and lifeless. Thereafter its name was changed, and it was called Anfauglith, the Gasping Dust"(c) Silmarillion

I really like to think there is some debate among scholars on whether Tol Fuin is part of the Reunited Kingdom on a technicality, since its Kings are straight-line descendants of the last Lords of Dorthonion.
...
The opinion of His Highness King Elessar on the subject: It would, you know, make about as much sense for me to say we're still the Lords of Andunie.
The opinion of Her Highness the King's youngest daughter: That would actually be immeasurably cool and dad is a spoilsport.
The opinion of any given random inhabitant of Middle-Earth: I mean Gondor-and-Arnor is welcome to it; no one lives there for a reason, but if they want a barren wasteland with a feel altogether too similar to Mordor on sentimental grounds, who am I to stop them?

“'Speak of neither to me!’ said Andreth. 'I desire neither. I was young and I looked on his flame, and now I am old and lost. He was young and his flame leaped towards me, but he turned away, and he is young still. Do candles pity moths?”
“Adaneth, I tell thee, Aikanár, the Sharp-flame loved thee.”

Luthien is often made into this sheltered princess who doesn't know much about the outside world(for understandable reasons, it fits with the fairytale trope, we're never really told much on her life before she met Beren anyway, etc) but the Girdle of Melian never existed until the early years of the First Age so I like to imagine that before the creation of the girdle she was a passionate explorer, wandering to the farthest corners of Beleriand, from the rivers of Ossiriand to the shores of Cirdan's Havens, from dark Nan Elmoth to the birch forests of Nimbrethil, to the piney woodland hills of Dorthonion and the misty lake of Mithrim. She only chooses to stay in Doriath after the Girdle has been raised out of love for her parents and other kindred, and even then she spends most of her time in the woods of Neldoreth rather than the halls of Menegroth, for it is in the wild that she feels the most free.

Foods and Cuisine in Dorthonion
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
General: The cuisine in the highlands is somewhat similar to Hithlum, although fruits and cereals are much more limited, and in turn, meats are more predominant. Dorthonion has a variety of heirloom roots, fruits, and corn-like grains that grow only at high altitudes.
The Elves there excel in the production of dairy products from the milk of camelid herds, and their fresh cheeses are a delicacy. The House of Bëor introduces a variety of stews, and spice mixes that their people have brought from the East. Freshwater fishing is common around Lake Aeluin and the rivers that feed it.
Diet: Omnivore, heavy dairy consumption.
Common ingredients: Roots, starchy cereals, an exceptional variety of berries, cheeses, meats, and nuts.
Specialty: Charcoal-cooked yams and corn-like paste stuffed with fresh cheese and tart berries.
Foods and Cuisines Worldbuilding from the Silmarillion

My reasoning or Anach potentially still being open is this chunk from Of Túrin Turumbar could imply that the Pass was only utilized "of late" when the Orcs found a way down:
