Commentary about this post: (the stuff under the cut is AA fandom related ramblings, scroll if you don't care)
Tumblr media
There's obviously a lot of ships I could point to for this re: AA. But I think an important (?) part of AA fandom history is that F/F shippers have had to bend themselves backwards to have even SLIGHTLY plausible ships, and I don't think it's bad to construct random F/F ships when that's the situation. I've found myself enjoying the *idea* of Franziska/Maya even though it's the biggest ship that fits that bill (I'd like it better if they weren't just shoved in the background of fan content and people actually focused on their interesting parallels, but... ah, well)
So like. I can't blame people for not liking/caring about Franziska/Maya because they have so few interactions and don't really like each other anyways, but I have to respect the shippers.
THAT BEING SAID. As the series goes on, we get more and more "pair the spares" situations.
Like yes, of course! (the following list is partially making fun of those who genuinely feel the need to pair off every main character) Phoenix/Edgeworth real, and Gumshoe/Maggey is canon so we don't need to worry about Gumshoe, and Maya/Franziska, and Mia/Diego is canon too, and Apollo/Klavier is obviously real, Athena/Juniper is so nice because you don't need to worry about it since they got introduced in the same game, and oh, what's that? Trucy and Pearl are left out? Well they're both young girls, just ship them together! And Ema/Kay interact in investigations, so that's a thing, and Blackquill and Nahyuta are both new prosecutors, so they can be shipped together even if they barely interact and, just like Franmaya, don't really like each other.
And trust me, I LIKE a lot of these ships. Not all of them, but almost every reoccurring major character has ended up paired off, and it... bothers me, I guess. Not majorly, but some of those ships are kind of... weak. Or like people ship them (ESPECIALLY the F/F ones) just to Have A Ship With Those Characters. And as much as I believe there are people who genuinely and fully love those ships, I also believe that they... kinda suck.
(The worst one imo is Blackmadhi... I wish I liked it but alas... I'm not even better than Blackmadhi shippers because I ship Klavquill who never interact even once, but, you know. I have my opinions.)
There's also, I guess, Krisnix and Langworth, but those end up as "hey these guys are pretty divorced" and don't seem (to me, as someone who's never sought out content for the ships) as something people want as an "endgame" so to speak.
Now with TGAA, it's a little different, but. God I want to talk about this so bad. Since there's only 2 games there's not this huge overarching cast that keeps expanding, but regardless we ALMOST have the carefully paired off main ships. Though I WAS surprised when I realized that van Zieks has so many ships... solidly cutting through the perfectly paired off ships there would be otherwise. Well played, sir, well played.
And regarding F/F ships, we have the lovely surprise that our main character girl Susato has a girl CANONICALLY crushing on her, and ANOTHER main character girl (Gina) is not only around her age, but has POSITIVE interactions with her instead of negative!!! What a novel idea!!! So Susato gets not one but TWO great F/F ships where shippers don't have to twist themselves into knots hoping that it makes sense to someone.
(Personally, I really love Susagina, and I Get Susahao and I DO think it's canon at least on one end if not both, but it just doesn't appeal to me that much. I like it, but I'm not aching to find content.)
And in that respect, TGAA doesn't have as much of a pair the spares situation!!! I mean, there's also Gina/Maria which I think falls under it for people who prefer the canon-ish Susahao to Susagina, especially since Gina and Maria never actually interact... I can understand it I guess since they're coworkers (see: Blackmadhi and Klavquill also being random coworker ships lol) but also I REALLY don't like the ship so I'll leave it there.
