okay because @transfemsparrow expressed interest: here is the oak-centric hunger games au ive been rotating in my head since yesterday hehe -(as a note, while i am taking inspiration and SOME plot beats from the books, the rest of it is schemes of my own machination)

-once upon a time, the young son of the president fled the capital to get away from a life of forced luxury and cruel selfishness. barry could not stop henry from leaving, but he never forgot, not with how much damage was dealt to his reputation.

-years later, lark and sparrow grow up in district seven knowing fully well that their grandfather is going to have them both reaped in retaliation the moment they turn twelve, even if their father doesn't want to admit it out loud.

-in all of its years, their district has only had one victor before the twins turn twelve, and it only happened a year prior: grant wilson, who was thirteen. before grant won, though, his father, darryl, was a stand-in mentor; something he volunteered to do so he could try to help kids the best he could. people talk about how strange it is that the only one he's ever saved was his own son

-grant was friends with the twins before he was reaped, mostly because darryl is friends with henry. however, after he comes back from the games, he's mostly just lark's friend.

-lark had always assumed that he would be reaped first, and then sparrow, because of their names. he takes comfort in that, knowing that he can buy sparrow more time.

-except that doesn't happen.

-the year lark and sparrow turn twelve is the 50th hunger games, the 2nd quarter quell. the day of the reaping, it is announced that the conditions of said 2nd quarter quell is that each district will send four tributes instead of two: two girls, two boys.

-lark and sparrow are reaped together.
