20 Character Design Question
no one’s gonna send me an ask about this so here i am answering the whole thing myself on my lonesome. im asking myself all these. shut up.
🕸 1. Who’s the oldest character of yours that you still use?
- Carver, my boy. Always and forever. That dude is something between 40 to pushing 50 or something. He’s also one of my favs. ✌
⭐️ 2. Who’s the oldest character of yours, defunct or not?
- Uhhhh. Carver. It’s Carver. I’m not including any Sim-related OCs, alright? It’s Carver. Drakura’s like 30 something. So it’s Carver.
💡 3. Has creating a character ever made you realize something about yourself?
- Yeah. That I’m shit at focusing on little details and making an original story of my own. Hahaha
🦋 4. Any minor characters that have either taken over or branched off into their own stories?
- AW, HELL YEAH MY DUUUUUUUDE. I got a few examples like the Demon King named Stan, Cactis (he even got a fucking spin-off what the fuck), ISAGANI (holy shit this is real. Takao was the MC, originally.) and many more
🐲 5. Do you prefer to make human, animal, monster, or _____ characters? Why?
- HUMAAAAAAAAANSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. i also like fantasy creatures but those with human-like forms. I’m shit at drawing animals or anything out of the ordinary.
🎨 6. When creating a character, do you come up with the visual concept or the written concept first?
- Visual. I do drawings. That’s why I said I was shit at the little details ‘cos I don’t bother with the back stories and everything else until it’s really necessary. Often times, I just let it piece itself together.
📌 7. Do you have characters that you know you’ll never use, but can’t bear to get rid of/recycle?
- Aw shit dude. I’m laughing. I think it’s all of my characters when I was in highschool. Like Raijin and the B.A. fucking influence squad. I’m fucking... what the fuck, dude. I miss those dummies. :’) Some great memories right there.
💖 8. Is there a character that embodies your good traits, or traits you wish you had?
- Aw fuck, it’s I-SA-GAAAAAA-NIIII BAAAAABYYYY. Although those traits are long gone from me now, I think. Flown away with the wind. Evaporated. Condensed.
💔9. Is there a character that embodies your bad traits? Several characters? Which ones and what traits?
- Hmmm.... Bro, I think I evenly proportioned the bad traits I might have to every character ever. But mostly, all I could think of is Liang. He’s jealous... and he hates children. So yeah. HAHAHAHHA
WAIT, EDIT! It’s actually Gav and Cactis!!! Gav’s a hot-tempered, impulsive fuck and Cactis, my boy, is an apathetic piece of shit! Both are depressed as fuck! So yeah!
♨️ 10. Is there a character that explores your interests or fetishes (orrrr is that just all of your characters)?
- HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. don’t ask me this. my characters are the PROOF that I have the kind of fetishes that might get me in jail. im talking about bente dos, bente tres.
✒️ 11. If you have characters that embody certain traits of yours—good or bad—has writing them changed how you view those traits? Has it affected you in any way?
- I don’t think so. I mean, Liang is an entitled piece of shit and that still doesn’t change my perspective with most rich people. Haha. I didn’t even realize I had their traits until I came across the questions earlier. I like roleplaying a whole fuckin’ lot so when I do a character, I put myself in their shoes instead of the other way around.
💭 12. Do you fantasize about being any of your characters, or are you more detached?
- I WISH I WAS IN THEIR WORLD, YEAH. Wish I could be as awesome as what I portrayed them in my head but that’ll never happen so no.
🎵 13. Do you create playlists for your characters?
- I have songs as themes for my characters but playlists? No.
🎇 14. When writing for specific characters, is there anything you have to do to get into the right mindset?
- Yeah. I think I’ve told a friend about this but usually, when I’m feeling pissed, depressed, or just downright out of it, I draw Gavin and/or Carver trying to rip a face or two. If I feel like a motherfuckin’ sap or happy outta nowhere, I usually do The Boys(TM).
🌻 15. Which character is your guilty pleasure?
- The Demon King: Stan (although I don’t draw him too frequently cos he’s too much of a guilty pleasure) and Isagani, too. Haha
🌩 16. Is there a character of yours who’s a real struggle to write/draw? Why do you think that is?
- AWWW FUCKING HEEEEEELL YEAAAAAH. DUDE, EVERYONE??!?!? Nah, but maybe Gavin. ‘COS HE’S GOT AN UNDETERMINED TATTOO and a pretty long, lanky body. And probably anyone who has tattoos. Which is most of them. So fuck me. Cactis is also pretty hard for me to get right. Haha. He’s my Gaara.
🔑 17. Which character is the easiest to draw/write?
- Isagani’s face. I think. I hope. Oh god.
💎 18. Is there anything you really wish you could do, character-design-wise, that you feel is outside your current skillset? A concept that you wish you could pull off but are uncertain about?
- Yep. My fantasy epic with my dwarf and elven dudes. That shit is taking a lot outta me. Drawing and design-wise. Here’s to hoping I can manage.
🏆 19. What’s more important to you: visual design, unique personality, a trendy character aesthetic, etc? If you’re not sure, then what’s the first thing you usually nail down in a character?
- Personality. That’s what I try to pinpoint from the time I finish making a sketch. Actually no, both visual design and personalities matter to me. A lot. I think they’re two of the first things that really gives weight to a memorable character (aside from backstory I guess).
🎬 20. Do you ever plan to do anything (comic, animation, etc) with your characters? Or are you just happy to have them?
- I’ve uhhh... I’ve tried... multiple times... to do comics about them. But my skill set and patience does not allow me to go through with it. So I do these random draws of them for like profiles or some shit and just start with that. Haha
And to answer your question, yes, I’m very happy to have them.
